=Highway Don't Care=
-Chapter 5-
/Good morning beautiful how was your night
Mine was wonderful with you by my side
And when I open my eyes to see your sweet face
It's a good morning, beautiful day/
I was stroking her naked back gently with my right hand as my left hand fingers played with her lose curls when the first signs of her waking up reached my ears with her little hum of awareness.
I watched, smiling, as she nuzzled her head on my chest some more, trying to block out the light, knowing my angel didn't like bright or early mornings. Finally giving up, her cut dimpled chin came to be propped up against the center of my chest and I finally got to see those rich pools of never ending sapphire blue. My smile grew wider at the little crease she always has on her forehead before her first cup of morning coffee, placing a kiss on her forehead as if to get ride of those creases, I whispered my first morning words to her, "Good morning, Beautiful."
"G'morning Handsome," she whispered back with a soft, shy smile that was reserved for our times in the quiet of the mornings before the days really got bustling.
"How was your night? Mine was wonderful with you by my side," I told her gently, trailing my fingers through her mop of dark curls.
"I always sleep better when I'm your arms, Logan, you know that," she told me gently, reaching up to caress my cheek and morning stubble.
"Let's go brush our teeth and we'll make some breakfast, okay?"
"Mmkay, only because I want my morning kiss," she simply and cheekily replies.
"Ha, you just want your morning coffee," I smirked back at her, knowing her ways by now since the moment she moved in almost a full year ago.
"Nothing gets past you, Master and Commander," she laughs, throwing her head back and curls tumbled around her neck, head, and down her back.
"Nope, but then again I'm just a simply reporter next to the Ace Reporter in the apartment."
"Ohhhh you," she replied and I held my hands up fast as a pillow came swinging in my direction.
Laughing, I stood up and threw on my grey Calvin Klines from last night, heading into the bathroom to relieve myself, wash my hands and brush my teeth.
"Mm, I love this site in the morning," my girl whispered as her arms came to wrap around my bare waist and abs from behind as I finished brushing my teeth.
"It's not as good as my sight every morning, Beautiful" I told her honestly and smiled softly as the dark pink hue rolled through her cheeks as she blushed before burying her head into the center of my back. Looking at this beautiful angel of a woman who I still didn't know I got to hold in my arms every day, I asked with a soft smile, "Since we are both free of all obligations for the weekend, what do you want to do today, Ace?"
I watched her smile and her eyes twinkle as she said, "Date Night tonight and tomorrow, and then the rest of the week I want to have Fort Night with the Lost Boys and Steph, Rose, and Juliet."
"Sounds like an adventure worth our time," I told her, loving this woman even more because she loved my friends just as much as I did and put up with all of us from our most disasterist times to our funniest and most embarrassing times, like yesterday in the mall when shopping for fall decorations for the apartment. Boy was that…well an adventure worth Finn, Colin, Ace, Steph and my time…I'm just surprised we didn't get kicked out.
I let her finish up in the bathroom after I was done and went to start our morning routine.
As I poured her coffee, I laughed as I heard her jabbering away on the phone with I, assumed, a drunk Finnigan Morgan.
'Yes Finny…No Finny…Finnnnnyyyyy," she whined as she winked at me; mouthing thank you as she put the phone on speaker and started to drink her coffee, "Mmmmmm"
"Oh I do love that sound," Finn's voice came and for once I was shocked, he was sober, "Need my help making more sounds like that?"
"Watch it, Morgan," I glared at the phone, pulling my coffee cup rim from my mouth with a scowl.
"Ooooo, speaker," he replied sounding giddy, "the things we three could get up too."
"Speaking of getting up to something," came her sweet voice, "get your mind out of the gutter you two…Logan and I have a game plan for this week if you, Colin, Steph, Rose, and Juliet are up for it."
"Is it…" he started and then yelled along with Rory as he finished his question, "FORT NIGHT?!"
"Sure is, you whackos," I told them laughing and shaking my head.
"Ooo, ooo, oo, when, when?"
"You sound like a monkey, Aardvark," she informed him with a giggle, "Sunday through Wednesday because Steph, Colin, and I have study groups for midterms starting Thursday."
"Stick in the muds!"
"Slacker!"
And here they go, I thought as I turned around to make breakfast, knowing this could go on for a while just like the brother and sister they claimed to be.
"Goody-toe shoes!"
"Lazy, drunkard!"
"Mary!"
"Damn Bible Boy, I'm going to get him back for that," she mumbled, "I'm not a Mary anymore you Australian horn dog."
"American bookworm, stay away from me," I laughed hearing Finn's version of American Woman by Lenny Kravitz.
"Hey, don't butcher a good song, you slimeball," came her reply, pouring her second cup of coffee.
For the next 20 minutes, they kept up throwing barbs back and forth and let me tell you those two could get creative. They ended the call with Finn, pleading with Ace to have a study/movie night with him so he, too, could (try) to pass midterms.
Ever since Rory came along it was like a switch had been flipped int not only me, but Finn as well. If anyone guy was closer to Ace than I, it was Finn. She was the sister he never had but desperately wanted. Since the moment of our second LDB trip where we went to Australia and Finn taught her how to surf and deal with sharks while doing so when one was spotted, they we always together if she wasn't with me or the girls. It was like playing where's Waldo with Finn, you always knew where he was when he went missing.
She had turned our lives around because while Colin attended classes regularly as did the girls, who we affectionally always called Pinky (referring to the girls) and the Brain, Finn and I did not, unless truly necessary so as to not get kicked out of Yale, but here came this whisp of a girl and we were going to classes regularly unless it was an optional, or there were family, emergency, or LDB events (in the girls case, DAR meetings) that happened. This whisp of a girl had pulled my Bs into As, Finn's Cs into Bs and some As with one C to go, and the girls from lower Bs to upper Bs and As with Colin three grade points behind a girl who was on the fast track to potentially graduating early if she wanted to.
Placing waffles covered in whipped cream, fruit and powdered sugar, bacon, scrambled eggs and biscuits in front of her followed by a triple berry smoothie, I placed a kiss on her head and got my own breakfast similar to hers except for no waffles and a strawberry banana smoothie for myself. Sitting down as she poured us each a glass of Simple Orange Orange Juice, she smiled and said, "As always, babe, this looks amazing."
"Why thank you, baby," I replied before we both dug in.
Later I would find myself getting ready for the kind of day she suggested.
Pajamas on? Check.
Black out curtains and blinds pulled down? Check.
Snacks? Check.
Pillows and blankets? Check.
Movies, Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO max, Hulu, and Peacock? Check, check, check, check, check, and check.
Cuddling up on the couch with my best girl in my arms, she took control of the remote and decided we start the night off with Cold Case on HBO max, starting where we left off in season 5, while she is watching it again with the girls, who loved Danny Pino, were on season 2.
Later the night as the credits and music for Jaws 2 rolled across the screen, I pulled her as close as our space on the couch would allow us before popping in Scooby Doo with Sarah Michelle Gellar, a movie she loved to go to sleep too, and thanked whoever was up there for this beautiful whisp of an angel in my arms.
Suddenly, I was pulled from my sweet dreams full of memories to a loud noise coming from the room and frantic doctors and nurses coming into Rory's room and pushing me out of the room with urgency.
Author's Note: Well, y'all I know it's been awhile but I've just been in this….rut and then life got in the way – eviction crisis, no food crisis, moving, changing majors in college, college courses, illness, and more, BUTTTTTTTT I did manage to put this out and for that I'm thankful. Also be on the lookout for another Rogan/Gilmore Girls story that you've never seen me do before. It will have a darker, edgier twist too it so be forewarned…I thinking I will call it "Where You Lead I Will Follow" or use something or other. I don't know yet but still be on the lookout because I will give a sneak peak.
XOXO,
Jess
P.S. I might have another couple chapters to right up after this as well ;D
