It was a bright and sunny Friday morning when Kensi and Deeks strolled into the bullpen. "Where exactly did Hetty say she was going on vacation?" Deeks asked, taking his laptop out of his bag and placing it on his desk. "Since when does she take a vacation anyway?"

"All she said was that she was going east to a place where they drink tea" Callen replied, with a shrug of his shoulders.

"China! Hetty's gone to China. I knew it, I knew she'd go somewhere exotic" Deeks was envious. "When I can afford to take a vacation I'm going to China"

"Really? Would I be coming with you? Kensi laughed at an indignant Deeks.

Callen picked up his phone, "Callen….. Hi Hetty, having a good time?" Callen raised his eyebrows, "I'll ask" He turned to the team, grinning "Hetty would like two of us to join her for a couple of days. It seems somebody is calling in a favour"

Sam rolled his eyes. "I've got plans"

"Yes definitely! I'm up for a trip to China" Deeks eyes lit up.

"China? Who said anything about China? Apparently Hetty's in England"

"England's okay. Always wanted to see Big Ben. Count us in" Deeks ignored the questioning look from Kensi. "At least I won't need an interpreter"

Thirteen hours later the couple landed at RAF Mildenhall deep in rural Suffolk, East Anglia. A much overlooked bulge on the eastern side of England. It was an overcast and chilly Saturday morning. They were met by a bemused looking sergeant, who offered them coffee and croissants. He didn't say much, apart from checking their names before taking them to the southern edge of the base where a black Range Rover was waiting for them.

"I was told to provide you with a car, it's right hand drive, nothing else available. Take care of it, it's a twenty one plate" he handed the keys to Deeks.

"Twenty one plate, what does that mean exactly?" Deeks looked confused.

"Twenty-twenty one, it's brand new, like I said take care of it... Please"

"Do you have any idea where we're supposed to go. Our boss's idea of need to know is not the same as ours" Kensi asked, as she took the keys from Deeks.

The sergeant took an envelope from the front seat of the car "Just this" he handed it to Kensi, who looked at it, frowned, then handed it to Deeks.

"IP11 9RZ? What's that….. a zip code?

"Over here they call them Post Codes, but yeah, a zip code"

Deeks opened the envelope and took out £150 in mixed notes "Is this enough to buy breakfast?"

"Oh yes, lunch too." The sergeant replied as he turned to walk away, "West Row gate is just over there, this paperwork will get you out, and back in again. Remember to drive on the left."

Kensi climbed into the driving seat, Deeks beside her, they threw their go-bags onto the rear seats.

"Do you think Joe Biden was rushed through that quick, and pushed out the back door?" Deeks settled into the passenger seat. "Weird sitting on this side, with no steering wheel. You okay with stick shift? Know how to work the Sat Nav? You just enter the Post Code" Deeks beamed like a kid at the circus.

"I've got this" Kensi growled, as the car stalled.

The pair set off through the Suffolk countryside. "I was expecting to see Big Ben and Buckingham Palace and they send us to a cabbage patch" Deeks grumbled, as they sped through the flat landscape, past fields of vegetables and wheat. They came to a large roundabout on the outskirts of Mildenhall town. After two circuits of the roundabout they selected the correct exit and turned off. As they drove along the tree lined road they saw a yellow sign that read 'Turn off Sat Nav and Follow Directions'. They kept the Sat Nav on, but followed the arrows and turned down a side road.

"Are you sure this is the right road? I think we turned too soon. Do you think this detour might be a trap?" asked Deeks. "Are you sure this really is a road? I've seen wider side-walks"

"Deeks! Button it or you'll be walking" Kensi already had enough of Deeks chatter, but she had to agree, the road was narrow, barely room for two vehicles to pass. Hedges on both sides didn't help visibility.

"Do you think we should be going a bit slower? Sure you can see what's round the corner"

"What else is going to be travelling on this road" Kensi hissed.

"A TRACTOR!" Deeks shouted as a Massey Ferguson appeared around a bend just a few yards in front of them. Kensi spun the wheel. The car swerved to the left, cleared a ditch, went through a hedge and came to rest in a field of onions.

"Yup. I guess that's taken care of the car" Deeks said as he climbed out. "You okay?" he asked as he checked the vehicle for damage.

"All good. Not sure about that guy" Kensi pointed to the tractor driver, who stood on the side of the road watching them. He was a thickset barrel of a man, with no discernible neck, wearing a green parka and brown rigger boots. A small brown terrier type dog sat beside him. Deeks was convinced

the dog was laughing.

"Mornin'" the tractor driver grinned " Should've used the gate" He saw the annoyance on Kensi's face and laughed, "Anybody hurt?"

"No, we're good" Kensi and Deeks replied as one.

"Where were you trying get to?

"IP11 9RZ, what it says on this envelope" Kensi took the envelope out of her pocket.

The tractor driver chuckled "Sat Navs don't usually send people through my field"

Kensi noticed a coil of rope at the tractor drivers feet. "Are you going to tie us up, or help us out?"

"I was going to help, but since you ask..." the tractor driver scrambled over to the stricken car and looked for somewhere to attach the rope. The dog followed it's master into the field, and sniffed round Kensi and Deeks in turn. It cocked it's leg against the front wheel of the car then sat leaning against Deeks' leg, looking pleased with itself. Both Deeks and the dog revelled in Kensi's discomfort. The pair and the dog watched the tractor driver attach the other end of the rope to the tractor, then slowly ease the car back onto the road. Kensi and the tractor driver checked the car over more thoroughly. It was scratched but seemed otherwise undamaged.

"Thank you" said Kensi, opening the envelope, "What do we owe you?

"Owe me? Nothing, just remember to keep to the left. Head east, Bury St Edmunds first then you'll need the A14"

"Why do we have to Bury St Edmunds?" Deeks asked, perplexed.

"It's a town" the tractor driver shook his head as he walked away. The dog allowed Deeks to scratch it's ears once more before scampering after it's master.

"All we need to know now, is how to get to Bury St Edmunds from here" Deeks said, settling himself into the passenger seat. "A14, is that the freeway?" The pair set off along the idyllic country lane with no idea where they were or where they were going, trusting technology to deliver them to their destination.

An hour or so later, the sun was shining. "You have reached your destination" the calm but annoying voice of the Sat Nav confused the pair. They had driven along a cliff top road, past a golf course and a stubby round tower to arrive at the end of the road. It was at a point where a river met, what they assumed, was the North Sea. Close to the pebble beach there was a cluster of small huts, one selling fresh fish. There was a small car park and a café.

"Is this it? We've come all this way, to end up in this…. backwater?" Deeks looked disappointed.

"Let's get something to eat" Kensi said, pulling into a parking bay.

While Deeks worked out how to buy a Pay and Display ticket from the machine in the car park, Kensi went into the café to order food. They sat outside at a trestle table, to wait for their bacon rolls and coffee and were intrigued by a group of four young men sitting at the next table, speaking Russian. Not what they expected in an English hamlet. A few minutes later brunch arrived. The young lady placed the order on the table and looked at Deeks.

"You must be Deeks. We've just had a call from Mother. She told us to tell you she would meet you by the ferry in half an hour" she smiled "Do you need anything else?"

"We'd like to know how she knew we were here" Deeks replied. Not expecting an answer.

Thirty minutes later the pair walked towards the river to look for Hetty. They found her standing on a small jetty.

" Welcome to Felixstowe Ferry." Hetty walked towards Kensi and Deeks. "There's a lot of history here. You can catch this ferry across to Bawdsey." Hetty pointed across the river "Behind those trees is Bawdsey Manor, where they developed Radar"

"Yet our phones don't work here. What are we here for Hetty? Deeks asked.

"I'm a house guest of retired Admiral Jones, John Jones. One of his ancestors, Christopher Jones who captained 'The Mayflower', came from Harwich, just south of here. That's where the Mayflower was built. You know The Mayflower left Plymouth in 1620 to sail the Pilgrim Fathers to Massachusetts. If you're interested in history"

"Not really, we didn't come all this way for a history lesson" Deeks was getting annoyed.

"Admiral Jones is convinced his daughter has been kidnapped, and is being held somewhere near here. She had a relationship with a British backpacker in Los Angeles. The backpacker returned to England and the Admiral hasn't been able to contact his daughter since".

"It might just be co-incidence, or she could be here by choice" Kensi suggested.

"True, but the Admiral is convinced his daughter is here, against her will" replied Hetty

"Or against his?" Kensi added.

"How are we supposed to track anybody down?" asked a bemused Deeks "We don't exactly know the area"

"Good old fashioned detective work Mr Deeks" Hetty replied "Admiral Jones has seen the man in the pub over there. He seems to associate with a group of Russians and the Admiral thought it unwise to confront him…."

"And you want us to talk to him" Kensi finished the sentence.

"Something like that" Hetty pulled a photograph from her pocket .

"There were four guys talking Russian at the café" said Deeks "Perhaps they are friends of….what is his name?"

"Daniel, Daniel Kasprzak British born of Polish parents, that's all we know." Hetty handed a photograph to Kensi "This is Joanne Jones, the Admiral's daughter"

Hetty took a burn phone from her pocket and handed it to Deeks "You might need this, my number is on it. You have a room booked for tonight at a Best Western hotel in Felixstowe town. I suggest you go there and freshen up. You have a busy evening ahead"

In cool of the evening Kensi and Deeks drove the scuffed Range Rover into the car park of the 15th century establishment at Felixstowe Ferry. They saw the four young men from the café, sitting at a table outside. While they watched, another young man joined them. He was a stocky dark haired man with a ready smile. He spoke to the four men briefly, then slapped one on the shoulder and walked into the pub. Kensi and Deeks followed. They stopped just inside the door, to look at the beams across the ceiling and take in the 'olde worlde' ambience of the place. As they walked over to the bar the fifth man brushed against Kensi. He immediately apologised and the apology was accepted.

"Not from around here are you?" The young man asked.

"No, We're American" Deeks replied

"You don't say" the young man laughed "California. Los Angeles... Right?"

"What makes you say that?" Deeks was intrigued

"Not long back from there. That's where my girlfriend is from. After I finished Uni, I travelled around the States for a while, got to LA met Joanne, fell in love. She's here with me, you'll have to meet her. She'll be here in a minute." The young man held out his hand "Sorry. Name's Dan, pleased to meet you"

Kensi and Deeks looked at each other in surprise, "Marty Deeks, this is my wife Kensi" the two men shook hands.

Kensi showed the photograph to Dan "Is this your girlfriend?"

"Is this a co-incidence or what?"

"We're with NCIS, her father thinks she has been kidnapped and we're here to find her" Kensi continued. To her surprise, Dan burst out laughing.

" So Admiral Jones could track me here, but couldn't find out that Joanne came here a week after me. "

"Why didn't you stay in LA?" asked Kensi.

"I couldn't. My visa was about to expire, I would have been deported. I couldn't get a job there and I was offered my dream job here, as an Agronomist at a farm just up the road. I thought if I came home we could stay in touch and work it out" Kensi and Deeks glanced at each other. Dan continued "Joanne had other ideas. A week later she jumped on a plane and turned up at my door. She can stay six months, we hope she will be able to get residency. We're going back to LA in a few months to get married. She's an artist, can work anywhere. For now I can only work here."

"Who are the Russians you were talking to?" Deeks asked "Her dad thinks you're mixed up with a Russian gang."

"Russians? What Russians? Tomek and Adam, my cousins, are Polish. Artjoms is Latvian and Jonas is Lithuanian, their Russian is better than their English, so they speak Russian to each other. They speak English to me, my Russian is not so good. We work together on the farm." Dan looked up and smiled as a slim blonde woman entered the bar "And here she is…. Joanne. This is Kensi and Marty from LA. They've come looking for you"

Amid much laughter Kensi explained the situation. The two couples spent a very pleasant evening talking about LA and England. Joanne agreed to meet her father on the promenade in Felixstowe the following morning. Deeks called Hetty on the burn phone she had given him, to pass on the good news.

Sunday morning dawned bright and sunny in Felixstowe, an Edwardian seaside town. The Admiral waited on the promenade for his daughter. There was a bracing sea breeze along the promenade, so Hetty sat with Kensi and Deeks in a shelter, facing the sea, watching the ships disappear over the horizon to mainland Europe. Hetty was keen to educate her team. "At the north end of this promenade was Beach House, where Wallis Simpson stayed in 1936 while she waited for her divorce. Kind Edward abdicated so he could marry her. That woman really did know how to mess with the royal family."

It wasn't long before the young couple arrived. They had a deep discussion with the Admiral, which ended with hugs, handshakes and backslapping.

"Don't you just love a happy ending? I wish every case was this easy" Deeks sat back, looking out to sea. "Not every day a suspect introduces himself"

After saying their goodbyes, Kensi and Deeks climbed into the Range Rover to drive back to RAF Mildenhall to catch the first available flight home. Kensi turned to Deeks and asked what Post Code they needed.

"No idea, I thought you had it. Does this mean we're lost?" Deeks smiled and relaxed into his seat "I can think of worse places to be lost, there's no rush to get back. Is there? How long before they come looking for us?"
