HYBRID FORBES

CHAPTER 4, A Promise To Elijah Mikaelson

"Thank you, Klaus!" She was walking the stairs, "I couldn't have gone home like this!"

She pointed to her hair, the blanket she was wearing as a dress.

"Can I ask something else?" She asked.

Klaus waited.

"Anything!"

"Can you get my clothes from my bedroom," She asked. "The window will be open."

She felt stupid asking Klaus Mikaelson that. She thought he would say no, but he disappeared through the door.

She smiled, and went upstairs.

She took a shower, and saw her clothes lying on the bed.

She changed and came downstairs. Elijah was standing in the dining room, and Klaus was nowhere to be seen.

"Ah! Caroline Forbes!" He stood at the door, "Come inside!"

He stepped aside.

"Oh...I can't!" Caroline told him, "I already feel that I am intruding..."

"Oh no..." Elijah smiled. "Looks like we have a lot to talk about."

"With me?" She asked, surprised.

"Yes.." He sat down. "Please...Join me."

Caroline sat down. She didn't know what to say.

"Caroline, you know..." He started to say. "This was the first time my brother has done something good for someone."

He looked at Caroline. She didn't say anything.

"And I think you need to let him."

"Let him?" Caroline stopped, "Let him do what?"

"Do things for you!" Elijah told her, "He needs someone in his life who he cares for."

"And he cares for me?" Caroline laughed. "I'm sorry, Elijah...But me?"

"Yes..." He told her calmly, putting his fork down. "I think he does."

"I think you are wrong..." She was a little flustered.

"Really?" He asked. "Then why did he spend the night looking after you?"

"Uh..." Caroline was stumbling for words. "Anyone would have done that for me...because that's what normal people do!"

"No...That's where you are wrong!" Elijah tapped his fork on the plate. "You would do that for anyone. Not Klaus...If Klaus didn't care for you, he would have looked at you twice."

Caroline's face opened, and then closed again.

"He cares for you," Elijah told her, "He needs to change, and you can help him."

Caroline looked at Elijah. She was biting her lip. She was nervous.

"Please...Caroline!" Elijah stood up, "I ask this as a favor."

She didn't know what to say. He came closer, and held her hand.

"Please!"

Klaus entered the room again. He took one look at Elijah, and Caroline thought he was angry.

He rushed out of the room.

"I think I should go!" Caroline picked her purse, and rushed out of the house.

Elijah sighed. He didn't know what Klaus was thinking but it was something bad.

"Klaus?" He ran after him. "Niklaus...?!"

He shouted.

Klaus was standing in the kitchen, he was throwing things on the floor.

"What?" Klaus shouted back.

"What are you doing?" Elijah asked him.

"Now, I can't do this..." Klaus taunted at him. "When you can do anything you want?"

"What did I do?" Elijah asked.

"Just go away!" He shouted.

Elijah sat down.

"Klaus, if you think..." He told his brother. "That I am interested in Caroline, you are wrong!"

Klaus looked up, Elijah saw a brief smile on his face,

"I don't care about her!" Klaus told him roughly.

"Then, I should go ahead and ask her out?" Elijah had a devilish tinkle in his eyes.

Klaus didn't answer, but his mouth twitched.

"Lighten up, Niklaus." Elijah smiled. "It's a joke!"

Klaus had the biggest smile on his face.
