August 12, 1996. Denver, Colorado. The Thompson Residence. The Human World.
Inside a 2 story house in the city of Denver, Colorado, there was a 14 year old human boy who was in his bedroom using a Windows 95 computer. He was using AOL Instant Messenger. AOL (America Online) was a tech company that used to be the biggest Internet provider company on Earth. In the mid 1990's, almost half of the population of the United States of America had AOL. It was the number one Internet provider back in the 1990's. AOL was everywhere. It was like a plague. Everybody had AOL and they used it. AOL was the only way to gain access to the Internet in the mid 1990s. AOL Instant Messenger was the first instant messaging site ever, not counting ICQ.
The fourteen year old human boy's name was Peter Thompson. Peter was Caucasian. He had bright red hair, hair so red that it almost looked like blood. He had light blue eyes. He wore eyeglasses with turquoise colored frames. He was busy talking to his best friend Charlie Quinton via AOL Instant Messenger. Peter was using dial up internet, which was slow. So slow that if modern computers had dial up internet, it would've caused millions of people to smash their computer screens in anger. That's how slow dial up internet was back in the 1990s. It was the only choice people had to access the internet back then. It was either that or nothing.
For those of you who are reading this who don't know what dial-up internet is, dial-up internet was when you had to connect your computer up to a modem which in turn was connected to the main landline telephone jack. It basically meant that you had to connect your landline telephone and your computer together via a modem simultaneously. It may seem impossible nowadays with the advent of broadband internet and insane internet speeds with laptops. But, back then, dial-up internet was all people had as far as internet connection went. People had no choice but to endure the painfully slow speeds of dial-up internet.
Peter was busy typing his message on the computer. He typed: What are your plans for the weekend? to his online friend. Peter Thompson's AOL username was Bubble_Beeper, in reference to an obscure brand of chewing gum that was extremely popular during the 1990s. Charlie Quinton's AOL username was VenomFan13, in reference to the popular Spider-Man villain Venom.
VenomFan13: I'm planning on seeing a movie this weekend. What are your plans, Pete?
Bubble_Beeper: I don't really know what I plan on doing this weekend.
VenomFan13: You can't just sit around and do nothing all day in the house all by yourself.
Bubble_Beeper: Why should I go to a movie theater to see a movie when I can go to Blockbuster to rent a movie on VHS tape for $5?
VenomFan13: I don't know. I'm just suggesting something for you to do.
Bubble_Beeper: Whatever. Want to come over to my house to play some Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter with me on Super Nintendo?
VenomFan13: We always play Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter on your Super Nintendo. I want to play something else with you.
Bubble_Beeper: What game did you have in mind?
VenomFan13: Star Fox.
Bubble_Beeper: That game is boring. All you do is fly a fighter jet and fight enemies. That's all you do. Watching Top Gun is much better than playing that boring monotonous video game.
VenomFan13: I think Star Fox is an fun and exciting game.
Bubble_Beeper: Ok. See you at my house.
Peter Thompson stopped typing. He was in his house all by himself. The rest of his family were out doing errands. Peter was used to being home all by himself. The only problem with living by himself was that he was often hungry. To quench his hunger, the human would often eat junk food to snack on to tie him over until his family was home to cook dinner.
Charlie went over to Peter's house. Peter and Charlie went up to his room and they both played the original Star Fox game on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. They breezed through a couple of levels. Peter wished that he could meet Fox McCloud and tbe crew of Star Fox in the flesh. Little did he know that his wish would soon come true.
Somewhere in the Lylat System.
The Star Fox team had just finished their job of escorting a large shipment of weapons to a military base several light years away and the only way to get there and back was through a hyperspace jump from the Arwings. This kind of job was very tricky because if anything went wrong, the mission would be that much closer to failing, but the riskier the mission, the bigger the paycheck for Fox and his teammates. "Ok, that's the last of the weapons. We just need to get our check, then we can head back to Corneria.", Fox said as he placed a large box of blaster pistols, sabers and battle armor next to a large row of military barracks.
"Finally, we can get out of here. I don't like military bases that much because of the awful noises and even worse food.", Falco said as he shuddered at the thought of getting sick in a place like this.
"You know if we didn't accept this job, all of the soldiers of the military base wouldn't get any supplies to fight off any invaders." Fox said to Falco.
"Cut the chat, guys. Peppy has assigned us another mission. He needs you guys back aboard the Great Fox immediately." Slippy said over the communication devices that were strapped to Fox and Falco's wrists.
"Copy that. Fox out. Let's head back, everyone.", Fox said as he received the check from a male rabbit and shook his hand.
"Thank you. Without your help, none of our soldiers would've lasted the next 2 hours." the rabbit said to Fox.
"Thank you, Dr. Phil. If you ever need any weapons shipments just let us know. Me and my team will be happy to help." Fox said to the rabbit.
"I'll remember that. Take good care, Fox." The rabbit said to the vulpine. The vulpine and his team got into their Arwings, which were like the fighter jets a person would see in the United States Air Force and got ready to go back to the Great Fox for their next assignment. Fox had just entered the launch codes into his Arwing. The Star Fox team entered their jump point coordinates into the computer screens in front of them. Suddenly, an alarm warning went off inside of Fox's Arwing.
"Guys, I think I might of entered the wrong coordinates into the launch codes." Fox McCloud said to his team.
"Can't you override the launch codes?" Falco asked Fox.
"I can't. I already entered the launch codes." Fox said. A look of fear washed over Falco's face like a sudden hurricane.
"Don't worry Fox. I'm going to launch my grappling hook from my Arwing and deploy it onto your Arwing." Falco said.
"Isn't that a pretty risky move, Falco. You'll be attached to Fox when he activates hyperspace." Krystal said worriedly to the blue bird.
"That's a risk I'm willing to take." Falco said to Krystal.
Both Krystal and Falco deployed thier grappling hooks into Fox McCloud's Arwing engine. Falco's grappling hook successfully made contact while Krystal's grappling hook missed the ship entirely. The hyperspace countdown was counting down fast. Fox held onto his ship for dear life. The countdown ended and both Fox and Falco's Arwings went into hyperspace. The Arwings were going pretty fast. The speed eventually stopped. Fox and Falco's Arwimgs crashed into a nearby garage. They had no idea that they had just time travelled the year 1996 in the city of Denver in the state of Colorado on the planet Earth. They were about to meet two human beings from this planet. This moment would change their lives forever.
