"I'm sure you prob'ly heard this before, but you have the most amazing eyes."

Carol smiled at him, and he mirrored the smile. The corner of his mouth turned up just so.

"I've heard it before," she said.

"Figured you had."

"But I never get tired of hearing it again," she added. "Carol."

"Daryl. And—if you wanna hear it again, I'll say it again. You have the most amazing eyes. Just like—sapphires."

Carol hummed, but she couldn't pretend that his words didn't please her.

"Do you have any other pick-up lines, Daryl?" She asked.

He laughed and shook his head like he was disagreeing with the half-drunk beer in front of him on the bar.

"Not no good ones," he said. "I've never had any good ones."

"I don't think there was anything wrong with that one," Carol offered. He held her eyes for a moment.

"That's because it weren't no pick-up line. Just the truth."

"Well," Carol said with a sigh. "I don't think you've done too badly for yourself. After all—you did convince me to marry you with little more than…hey…you gonna marry me?"

"That was my best one yet," Daryl said with a satisfied grin.
