DISCLAIMER: This FanFiction is an AU from chapter 306 onwards. I have difficulty writing sometimes when canon info is still coming out as I DO read the manga (which is why I haven't updated Agency in a while). I'll get over it with time though.
Anyways, thank you for your patience. Enjoy the fic!
Dear Uraraka,
Thank you for everything
I don't feel like I should
be keeping a secret
From everyone in Class 1-A
So Im leaving a
letter
My quirk...
Is a power that All
Might passed onto me
It is a
special power. Shigaraki
and All For One
are trying to
Go after me to seize it.
Before that happens, I must leave
Uraraka glared down at the letter, lightly crumbling it in the bottom right corner as her grasp tightened finishing the letter. It seemed utterly impersonal. A mere "Thank you for everything". Not even a "Sincerely".
She took a peek at Iida's letter, with permission of course, and although the letters were not exactly the same, they might as well have been. They had clearly been made in a rush with little concern to personalize them.
Of course, she didn't care. The sting of not feeling like he loved her as much as she loved him was not the primary emotion being felt.
Loss.
That was the emotion being felt more than anything.
Deku... why...
The crumbling brunette lifted her gaze to see the reactions from across the room, most of which were similarly glum. Even Mineta and Kaminari, who often seemed to not care unless it was about... certain topics of interest, had their mouths agape reading the letters.
Todoroki stared at the letter without blinking for what may have been a minute, wide-eyed with a look almost similar to when Endeavor had fought the Noumu on television.
Black smoke rose from the corner of the room, where Bakugo fumed reading his letter, which began to be drenched in his explosive sweat.
"DEKUUUU! YOU SON OF A BITCH!" The good guy that he was, Kirishima, with a manly tear in his eye, snatched away the letter so it wouldn't go up in a blaze as the spiky-haired teenager left black marks on the wall.
Ochako...
Ochako...
"Ochako?"
"Hm?" On the verge of tears, she turned to Asui holding a neutral expression.
"Are you okay?"
The acceleration of her breathing and heartbeat was getting louder and louder as she began to lose touch with the world around her.
"D-Deku... He... I...
Just... something... say something!
"I-I'll be fine."
"R... Really?" Asui asked. "It's okay to miss him. I... I'm gonna miss him too."
"Y-Yeah, I will too."
She placed down her letter, the one of the two remnants left of her former classmate that she had access to. Unwillingly, a tear escaped her eye that she wiped away as soon as it came out.
"Ochako, are you sure you're okay, kero?"
"I'll... I... not now," she said, snatching up the letter she wanted to keep safe and sound. "I'm going to my room."
Mina, being the drama queen she was, began to lightly cry and talk about how strong he was and how he was the embodiment of a hero, without even realizing that her friend was now gone.
"Ashido... it's okay," said Momo, trying to keep both herself and her classmate under control.
"B-But... how is he safer out there? He's... he's practically begging for All for One to get him!"
"I'm sure he's getting help from the pro heroes too," said Kirishima. "He's not the type to rush into a battle with no plan."
"Are you shitting me?" asked the missing student's former childhood friend-turned-adversary-turned-friend again(?). "Are we talking about the same person? Of course he'd rush into battle if he thought he needed to keep someone safe. The dumbass nerd doesn't have a lick of smarts."
Mina looked up, heard him, and began to cry again.
"That might've not been the best thing to say, Bakugo," said Sero.
Without looking, the angered teen elbowed his classmate behind him, hitting him right in his family jewels. "Speak for yourself, jackass."
"Bakugo, stop swearing so much," said Kaminari. Although he did typically curse a lot, now in particular seemed worse than usual.
"What the fuck did you say to me?! Don't tell me what to do, bastard!"
Ignoring his outbursts, the observant class representative noticed that another one of his classmates was missing. He stood up and looked at Momo, who was still comforting Mina. He gave a hand signaled towards Uraraka's dorm to tell Momo that he was going to see her.
His vice representative attempted to give a smile to assure him that he understood, but couldn't get it to come out, so instead offered a thumbs up.
Walking over to her dorm, Asui and Jiro saw him before he left.
"Hey, are you going to see Uraraka, kero?"
"Indeed. I'm going to check up on her," responded Iida.
"Could we come with? I'm a little worried about her, and I know Tsu is too," said Jiro.
"Not now," Iida responded automatically. "Midoriya... was a tad closer to me than most, no offense. I want to talk to her myself if that's okay."
The two nodded understandably and went back to the lounge area with the rest. Iida, Todoroki, and Uraraka likely spent the most with All Might's successor before he left, although Bakugo certainly qualified as well after becoming his begrudging training partner earlier that year.
Using his jets lightly to rush over to her room, but not loudly, he knocked on the door three times.
"Uraraka?"
...
knock knock knock
"Uraraka? Are you in there?"
...
knock knock knock
"Uraraka, I'm going to look for you if you're not in here. I didn't see you with the rest of the class, so I went off to-"
The door cracked open. Despite the noise being so quiet it was almost imperceptible, it instantly silenced the orderly class rep.
"I-I'm here..." she said with a scared, shaky voice.
"Uraraka, are you sure you're alright?"
She opened the door slightly more to reveal her face barely in the dark of her room. Iida saw her dewy brown eyes and her visibly vibrating hands as she pulled on the doorknob.
Although he now saw his missing classmate (or, at least one of them), his anxiety multiplied.
I... I don't really know how to deal withthis situation... maybe I should have asked Yaoyorozu?
The saddened girl tried to speak, but her mouth only opened without words coming out, as her throat was clamped shut due to her determined efforts to keep her crying to a minimum.
"Uraraka, I can't hear you very well, but I'm here if you need me."
Tears began to roll and she kept trying to speak for a few seconds, but it didn't work. After a few attempts, "I... I... I can't..."
She plopped down to her knees and wiped her eyes. Holding forward her open hand, an All Might keychain was there.
Iida recognized it, but couldn't quite remember where it was from.
"Does... he even miss us?"
"I... Of course he does!" said Iida, only hesitating due to his unfamiliarity with the high-emotion encounter. "He may have left, but he left to keep us safe."
"I want to keep him safe..." she clenched her fist, still holding the All Might keychain in her hands. "I... wanted to keep him safe..."
Iida lowered himself to her level and looked at her straight on. "I... I did too."
Uraraka finally let her tears stream down her face. Iida, who was learning to figure out the situation as it went, offered her a handkerchief from his pocket, which she accepted.
"I'm sorry... I know this isn't easy. Especially for us," he said, sitting against the wall in front of her dorm room. "But Midoriya won't leave forever. He'll come back for us. I know it."
Uraraka's tears kept coming.
"Will he?"
"Absolutely! Why wouldn't he?"
"Iida..." her breaths started to be heard verbally, signaling to Tenya that she could be going through a panic attack. "It's... All For One... he's... he's after Deku..."
She placed her hands on her chest as it started quickly puffing in and out due to her rapid breathing.
"Slow down, Uraraka. Everything will be okay."
"For us, Iida! What about Deku? What about him?" She stood and stared at him, her body's foundation unstable due to her quivering condition, which caused her to fall back down.
"Uraraka!"
Once on the ground, she covered her face and kept crying. Oh no... I... what do I do?
She stood up and looked down at the ground. "I'm sorry... Iida... it's n-not you," she said avoiding eye contact. "I'm going to calm down in my room. T-Thanks for checking on me."
Before the class rep could respond, she walked into the black void of her room and loudly shut the door. Though not quite a slam, the sound startled Iida.
She's... probably the most affected person by this all... He thought. Maybe her or Bakugo.
Weeping on her bed, Ochako didn't have as much as a picture on her phone to look at. After looking tirelessly, she buried her face in her pillow and threw her phone across her cluttered room.
She knew no pictures would be on there. She never took any because she wanted to put her feelings away and focus on hero work. But her desperation made her look anyways.
Why... why can't I hide this anymore...?
Picking up the partially crumbled paper and reading it over for probably the seventh time, her eyes were barely able to make out the words.
She felt tired, exhausted, pained from her sadness. Her throat felt sore from trying to keep quiet and not wail or make any noise.
Her eyes, through they were currently blocked with tears, were aching and were clearly running out of tears.
Her heartbeat and breathing slowed slightly, but her mind was racing faster than ever before, reliving memory after memory of the boy who disappeared.
The entrance exam.
Their first team-up.
His first surgery at the Sports Festival.
Seeing him fight and defeat Overhaul.
Saving him during the fight against Class 1-B.
And getting his All Might keychain.
She looked down at the trinket in her hand, which had bent one of the spikes from All Might's hair due to it being clenched so hard in her hand.
You fanboy...
A slight smile crept its way onto her face with the last of her tears falling out of her eyes.
Suddenly, she had a funny idea.
That night, when Uraraka got got back to the lounge, the room was empty. Most likely, they all went back to their rooms like she did. Undeterred, she went to her destination.
Finding her way in front of Deku's door, this time knowing he wasn't there, she tried to open the door, but it was locked.
Pulling a hair pin out of her pocket, she fumbled around with the lock until it opened.
Opening the door, and closing it behind her, she saw nothing but a pale moonlight shining in on his room.
The chair was pulled out of the desk. Multiple All Might figurines, head statues, and bobbleheads adorned the desk itself.
Numerous posters were on the wall of his room in front of his desk and a large framed one hung above his bed, which had dark blue covers.
Even the opened curtains to the balcony were themed with red, white, and blue stripes, with white stars across the blue ones.
You fanboy...
Opening a drawer, the clothing was haphazardly moved around, signifying that he likely rushed out of his dorm.
Did you make your decision on the fly? Were you planning to leave us?
Why, Deku? Why?
Falling back onto the bed, Uraraka stared up at the ceiling. Though the day had gone by, she hadn't eaten a thing, which was unusual when she was at UA and not at home.
Her exhaustion and sadness were so strong that she couldn't express it. She had already run out of tears long ago.
When will you come back, Deku?
She remembered coining the hero name for her green-haired friend. It meant so much to her that day when he chose it to be his hero name, even if it meant it might never change.
Flopping over onto the pillow, she laid her haid against the pillowcase.
It smelled like him.
Deku...
Closing her eyes, her thoughts that day couldn't help but revolve around her missing crush. No matter how hard she tried to hold it in, it kept coming out.
As she fell asleep quickly due to her exhaustion, she moved under the covers and thought it one last time before finally losing consciousness...
