Come Together

On the first Saturday in March, Scorpius sat in the quiet Gryffindor Common Room rereading his Charms notes when the world seemed to have come down around him.

CRASH!

"What in the hippogriff-?" He exclaimed as books and paper fell to the sofa he currently occupied. "Lily will take care of that damn animal," he added as the situation came into clear view in front of him. Lily Potter's very large calico cat, Baby, appears to have decided that the most perfect place to lay in the sun just happened to have been the precise location where Scorpius had placed his stack of O.W.L. notes along with his extra ink bottle. Baby also felt it was appropriate to push all of these items off the table directly into Scorpius's lap.

"Don't yell at her" cooed Lily as she scooped Baby into her arms. "She didn't mean to make such a mess."

"There is no way that could have been an accident," muttered Scorpius, tapping his wand on his Transfiguration homework in an attempt to clean up the spilled ink. "This is the thrid time this week that that thing has attacked me."

"She's not attacking you," Lily defended, still hugging the struggling cat. "She just wants to be near you and you just keep making it hard for her."

"Well there was plenty of room on my side if she wanted to be by me so badly."

Lily gave up holding Baby and allowed her to jump softly to the floor in front of her. "Well maybe she didn't want to sit there. Maybe she thought you needed to get a little more light." She winked and flashed him a bright grin.

Scorpius rolled his eyes and continued to pick up the pile of parchment and spell books from the floor around him. "I think I had enough light."

"Well maybe she just thought you needed a break," said Lily as she picked up a copy of Standard Book of Spells Volume 5 and putting it back on the table. "You haven't looked up from those notes for two hours. I was starting to think you didn't have eyes."

She's right, Scorpius thought. He'd been pouring over his notes and preparing for his exams every spare moment he had for the last month. He looked across the room to see Rose sleeping with her face in a library book while Albus scribbled over two feet of parchment.

Lily placed the last book on the pile and followed his gaze to her cousins. "They could use a break too. Why don't we all go outside and see if the giant squid is surfacing today? He usually likes to come up when its this warm." She looked to him, her hazel eyes meeting his gray. "Otherwise it could just be us if you want."

Scorpius felt his heart leap. A beautiful day around the Hogwarts grounds with Lily sounded like the best possible use of an afternoon. "I really should be studying," he said guiltily.

"Come on, Scorpie," said Lily, pouting her lip out slightly, "are you even retaining any information at this point? You've got plenty of time left until the exams and you don't want to go breaking your brain too early in the year."

Scorpius laughed. "I'm not going to break my brain. But yes, a bit of fresh air might do me some good."

"Then its settled!" Lily clapped, causing Rose to stir on her book, mumble, and fall back to sleep. "We're going outside. Scorpius Malfoy, you put those books into your dormitory and I don't want to see them again until after dinner. I have you for the rest of the afternoon."

Scorpius's smile remained as he packed his books and carried them up the stairs to his dormitory, Baby the cat following close behind him.

A/N: I know it's been more then a decade since I've posted anything. Life has been busy! I was stumbling around the internet and was reminded of my favorite fic challenge. My friend dared me to add another post to it and here we are!

I forgot how much I enjoy writing drabbles and hopefully this will shake those loose again. I'd still love to finish this challenge I made for myself when I was in high school.

Until next time,

Cora
