Hello y'all!

This ficlet has been written in French 6 years ago, and is inspired by the Royai comic dump by WingJourneys on Deviantart. It's cute, and it's the first and only time I wrote from the 1st person POV.

I hope you'll like it!

New mission

Sat on my hospital bed, I'm waiting, arms crossed, eyes closed. I just went through the transmutation to get my sight back, but I haven't opened my eyes yet. Am I afraid? I, Roy Mustang? I don't know, I'm wondering. If I open my eyes… Will I still be blind?

"Sir!" a feminine voice brings me out of my thoughts. I open my eyes and see Riza Hawkeye, my loyal adjutant. "Are you okay?" she asks, worried.

I see her! I see her! The woman who's been supporting me for many years, the woman I love, who I almost lost during Promised Day, I see her. I take her beautiful face between my hands. Riza seems surprised at first, then puts a hand on my left arm.

"I'm glad…" I say. "That you're the first person I see." I look at her tenderly and give her a soft smile. "It's good to see you again, Lieutenant," I add.

Riza smiles. It's not the happiest I've seen on her lips, but it's a peaceful smile. "I agree, sir," she replies.

I'm happy, truly happy. I see her again, and it's even better than only having her on my side. I tell her that, and her smile widens. "I am too," she says. "We're alive, and we can go on and reach your goal together."

"Yes." I take a deep breath and rise. Riza looks uncertain. "Though there are some things on my agenda that are not okay." I look at her with a serious look. "Are you ready to follow me again, First Lieutenant?"

Riza salutes. "Yes sir!"

Into hell, her amber eyes speak for her. I turn away for a moment and look outside. The sunset lights the sky and gives it all shades from golden to crimson.

"I have a mission for you today. It'll be difficult."

"I await your orders, Colonel," Riza says.

I turn back to her, a smile on my face. "Starting from today, you are to address me as 'Roy' whenever we are alone."

Riza is taken aback, and her eyes widen. Her right hand that was still up near her face relaxes.

"Is that clear, Riza?" I ask, still smiling.

She smiles back, and her cheeks flush pink. I know all will be alright for us.

"Yes… Roy."

Yes, all will be alright.
