After the second wizarding war, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin married and bought a house, they had enough land for Remus to have a garden, and a garage for Sirius to store and work on his bike. After a long discussion and several arguments. They made the decision to start a family.

Sirius and his older cousin, Narcissa, were close as children, and even though they fought on different sides of the war, Sirius appreciated Narcissa for saving Harry. When Sirius brought up one Sunday at family dinner night that they were looking into starting a family, Narcissa got the idea to offer to carry their child.

"I'd like to help you in any way possible," Narcissa said, placing her hand on Sirius's hand. He smiled at her and then the idea hit her like a lightning bolt. "I could be your egg donor and surrogate." She said softly. Sirius looked at her for a second in shock. The only other person to hear her was her son who was sitting right next to her.

"Mother, do you think that is a good idea?" Draco said. The room went quiet. Everyone turned their attention to their end of the table. "I mean aren't you a little old to be having more children."

"Draco, no I am not too old, I was extremely fortunate to have had you so young. It's now Sirius and Remus's turn to be just as fortunate, and if they would let me be part of this, I would be so honored." Narcissa said. She looked from her son to her cousin. "Just think, a real Black-Lupin heir." Sirius sat in shock, he stared at his husband who was holding back tears from his end of the table.

Sirius got up from the table, Remus followed and entered the living room behind his husband. Sirius stood with his back to Remus, breathing slowly, not sure how to react. Remus put his hand on Sirius's shoulder, pulling slightly to turn him around. When their bodies connected in an embrace, Sirius burst into tears. He was so overwhelmed with emotion he wasn't sure what he was feeling. He was happy to have someone offer them such an amazing gift. He was scared that he wouldn't be able to handle this step in their lives. He had so many faults. This fear is what had caused so many arguments about starting a family in the first place. He was scared and nervous that if it didn't work or Narcissa changed her mind, or something happened to them before their baby came into the world, how was he going to react? How was Remus going to cope with all this?

Remus was over the moon. A whole human being, genetically his and Sirius's. Well not completely, but Narcissa was his closest living female relative, she was his first cousin and the Black family had so much inbreeding, there was a chance genetically they were probably siblings. An added plus was she was the second most sane of the Black only thing Remus could think of, that he'd call her crazy for was marrying Lucius Malfoy. He was concerned about Sirius, he was having a hard time coping with the aftermath of the war, he drank a little too much, and the nightmares were still rough for the both of them but this was their chance to be, and have the family they always wanted.

The process of Narcissa getting pregnant was long and nerve racking. The first couple of times failed, and Sirius was starting to lose hope. Everytime the news came that the egg didn't stick, Sirius would drink himself into oblivion and Remus had to call Harry to come and help. When Narcissa found out she was pregnant finally, she kept it a secret from everyone until she was out of her first trimester. She went to the doctors and they gave her the all clear to tell them she was expecting. When she arrived for dinner that Sunday with Draco, she went to find Sirius. He was in the kitchen with Molly talking about Ginny and Harry.

"I can't believe they aren't finding out what the baby is. I wish I knew what I was having every time." Molly said. Sirius laughed.

"Why? So you could commit yourself beforehand?" Sirius said jokingly. Molly threw the towel that lay next to her at him. Narcissa caught Sirius's attention. "Cissy!" Sirius exclaimed getting up from his seat going over to hug her. She could tell he was a little tipsy.

"Sirius, where is Remus?" she asked. He thought for a second.

"I think he might be in his office, he wanted to finish grading papers before dinner." he said. She took his hand and pulled him from the kitchen and up the stairs to Remus's office. Remus sat at his desk and looked up from the paper he was reading when he heard the door open. Narcissa pushed Sirius inside and closed the door. Remus sensed something different about the woman. He knew the scent, he just couldn't put his finger on it.

"Narcissa is everything okay?" Remus asked. She smiled excitedly and nodded.

"There is something I need to tell you." She started, but there was a knock at the door. She opened it and Ginny came in with a tray with tea and biscuits on it for Remus. The scent that came off of Ginny was also identical to the one coming off of Narcissa. His eyes widened.

"Are you really?" Remus asked, Ginny left with a quick smile. "How? When?"

"There was one left. I went back about three months ago. It finally worked." She said. Sirius looked from his cousin to his husband and back.

"What are you two talking about?" He questioned. Remus looked down at Narcissa's stomach then back up to her face. She had tears forming and a huge smile on her face. "Will someone please fill me in?"

"Sirius, it worked." Was all Narcissa said, her hands were placed over where the baby lay. She had the tiniest bump, not yet completely noticeable. It took a moment, then it hit him like a ton of bricks.

"You're pregnant?" He whispered, she nodded. Sirius burst into tears, he wobbled on his feet, and Remus caught him as he fainted.

When Sirius came too, he was laying in his bed, Remus was sitting on the edge of the bed next to him, holding his hand. He hadn't been out long, just long enough for Remus to get him in bed.

"Welcome back to the world." Remus said. Sirius just stared at him. "Are you okay?"

"Did it really happen?" Sirius asked, he was truly confused. "Was it all just a dream?" Remus smirked at him.

"No, Narcissa is really pregnant." Remus said, Sirius looked up at the ceiling. "Are you upset?"

"I thought it was hopeless. I was starting to think that we were being punished. We fought so hard for so long and I had finally become excited about being a father." Sirius said. Remus kissed the back of the hand he held. "We are going to be parents." Sirius whispered. Remus nodded with a smile. "I guess I should finally stop drinking."

"Yea, we're gonna need you around for a little while. Someone has to teach them to ride a broom." Remus said, the comment made Sirius chuckle lightly.

They made their way down to the dining room. Everyone was seated, and waiting for them. Sirius turned to Remus quickly.

"Do they know?" he asked. Remus shook his head no. "Should we tell them?"

"We have to tell them something. They are going to want to know why you fainted." Remus replied. Sirius nodded. All eyes turned to them as they walked in. The whole room got quiet.

"Are you okay, Sirius?" Harry asked. Sirius took a moment to answer, he looked to Narcissa. The tears started to form again, his cousin rose from her chair and took him in her arms. He held on to her tight for a second.

"I'm wonderful." He finally replied. Without taking his eyes off of Narcissa he said "We're having a baby." He placed a hand on her barely there bump, but it was firm enough for it to be real. The whole room erupted in cheers, even Draco, who had been so against it, was excited for them.

Six months of waiting, five miserable attempts to put the crib together, four freshly framed ultrasound pictures hung on the wall, three false alarms, two hours of pushing and one healthy cry later, their daughter entered the world.

Remus was working and the only way to get a message to him was by owl. Sirius never left his cousin's side through the whole labor. Narcissa did a stellar job, she didn't take anything because she didn't like the way it affected her when she gave birth the first time. When the baby finally arrived, the nurses cleaned her up, then they swaddled her and asked Narcissa if she wanted to hold her. She shook her head and pointed to Sirius. The nurse smiled as she placed the new arrival in her father's arms.

"Congratulations Dad, you have a healthy baby girl." the nurse said.

"Cissy, thank you." Sirius said, looking up from the bundle in his arms. Narcissa laid in her hospital bed, staring up at her cousin. She felt tired but happy for Sirius. "She's perfect," Sirius whispered looking back down. In his arms, lay a small sleeping baby, swaddled in a pink blanket with a little white hat that had a bow. Black curls peeked out from under the hat. The little baby opened her eyes for a minute, looked up at Sirius, yawned, and fell back to sleep. She had slate blue, almost gray eyes. She was definitely a Black. To him, she looked mostly like Remus, the way her lips pouted and the shape of her eyes, but her little face was still too swollen to tell.

"Did you pick a name?" Narcissa asked. Sirius didn't take his eyes off the little girl laying in his arms, but he shook his head no. He was waiting for one more person to come and see the new addition.

"Stuck between two." He whispered. He swayed from side to side. "I like Lyra Grace," just as he said the name, a knock rang from the door. Remus walked in slowly, completely out of breath. Sirius could tell he had been running.

"And I like Nora Faye," Remus said softly, watching Sirius hold their baby. Remus took a few steps towards Sirius. He took one look down at their daughter and fell in love. "But she's definitely a little star." Remus pulled Sirius gently into a kiss that was filled with love, excitement and pure joy. They had only felt this excited once before and it was the day Lily gave birth to Harry. That day was their first experience with these feelings.

"Welcome to the world Lyra Grace Lupin-Black," Sirius whispered as Remus kissed the top of the baby's head.
