Often, they return where they met again and just walk, some of the hurt the years have wrought melting away as they do.
"It's almost like being back again, isn't it?" And she spins on her heel, grinning up at him while she ambles backward.
He snorts. "The stench would say otherwise."
"Ah." Bending, she snatches up a handful of flowers. "Didn't think about that."
"It will not be as noticeable to you."
"No, I suppose not." A second later, she sets a wildflower crown on her head. "What do you think?"
But he doesn't think. Instead, everything goes numb.
