There was a particular land formation in the ocean called Christmas Island. It was a quiet little Island with not much that happens. The only notable thing about this island is a particular kid who had become quite popular in the area. He was an 11 year old hedgehog with blue quills, white gloves, red shoes, and some real spunk to him. His name was Sonic Maurice Hedgehog, although he doesn't like people knowing about his middle name. Sonic was a good kid, albeit very hyperactive with a thirst for adventure. His parents, Jules and Aleena, couldn't even begin to recount all the dangerous skateboard stunts he's pulled over the years. He was fortunate he had his sister Sonia and his brother Manic looking out for him.
Sonia was a pink hedgehog with her quills combed forward into bangs. She wore a red dress with purple boots and gloves. She was the oldest of the three and wouldn't let the boys forget it. She was also the most responsible of the 3, often making sure the others don't get into any trouble. Manic was a green hedgehog who spiked his quills forward, wore a red biker jacket, and had gloves with spiked bracelets on them. Manic was into punk rock if the description wasn't apparent. Although Manic was only a nickname given to him by his friends. His real name was Ogilve, but he's more reluctant to admit that than Sonic is to admit his middle name. Every weekend he'd go hang out with his friend Mina Mongoose and they'd play music together. They dreamt of starting a band, but that got put on hold when their friend Vector the Crocodile had to move away. While they'd bicker as most siblings do, Sonic, Sonia, and Manic were like peas in a pod.
Sonic walked out of his room and immediately was greeted by his family. "Good morning Sonic!" greeted his dad. "Morning pops!" Sonic greeted back. "Yo Sonic! Wanna rock out with me?" asked Manic, spinning his drum sticks around his fingers. "Sorry bro, I promised to go see Johnny, Porker and Ben at Uncle Chuck's place." said Sonic. "And what about you sis?" Asked Sonic. "I'm getting ready to head out for piano lessons. You?" Sonia asked back. "I'm heading out for my usual jog." Sonic responded. "Sweety, you call running at nearly the speed of sound a jog?" Asked his mother. "Well I mean… Yeah." Sonic responded simply. "Bye guys! Love you!" Sonic said as he hugged them in quick succession. Sonic likes to get things done fast. You could even say he's gotta go fast. "Just be safe, ok son?" said Aleena. "I will mom, don't worry!" Sonic said, closing the front door behind him. Sonic began heading towards the lab of his Uncle Chuck, where his friends usually like to hang out and watch Chuck make all his cool inventions. As soon as Sonic started running, he disappeared from the premises of his house in the blink of an eye. This is why Sonic is so well known across Christmas Island. He was so fast he had gained the nickname of "The Blue Blur" There wasn't much to do on Christmas Island, so Sonic usually had to make his own excitement by running. Sonic took the time to take in the scenery of the Island. It was full of lush greens and the people lived in houses that were all painted vibrantly, this town was always very cheerful. Sonic was often very reckless, not looking where he was going as he felt that he's been to Uncle Chuck's workshop so many times that he doesn't even need to look. Sonic ended up bumping into someone. Falling over, he looked up to see a polar bear with cream colored fur in a red beanie and a green scarf. "Hey man, watch it!" Says Sonic, getting up. "Couldn't you see I was running here!?" The polar bear tilted his head in a confused manner at Sonic. Sonic just stared at him for a moment and then walked around him and blasted off again. The polar bear just kept walking in the opposite direction of Sonic.
Finally, Sonic had arrived at Uncle Chuck's workshop. It was an old metal bunker with a blast proof metal door on the front of it. Sonic always enjoyed hearing the sound of the metal door clanging as he knocked on it. "Hey Unc! It's Sonic! You gonna lemme in?" Said Sonic as he knocked on the big metal door. The sounds of a dozen locks being opened were heard on the other end of the door. "I'm waaaaaaitiiiiiing!" Sonic said, tapping his foot so rapidly that the red of his shoe became a blur. The large door opened, revealing a blue hedgehog that was somewhat taller than Sonic. His blue fur was much lighter, possibly going gray. His face was obscured by gray, bushy eyebrows and a mustache. This was Sonic's good old Uncle Chuck. "Sonic my boy! Welcome! Come on in!" Uncle Chuck said, moving out of the way as Sonic walked in. "Your pals are in the dining room. You kids play nice, I'm gonna go get back to work." Uncle Chuck said as he went into his room and shut the door behind him. Uncle Chuck liked to build things meant to help people. He mostly spent his time building prosthetic limbs for people in need of them. He only really ever built anything crazy just to wow the kids honestly. Sonic walked into the chrome looking dining room where his friends were. It had a small table for four people with bar stools for chairs. A fluorescent light hung above the table illuminating the middle of the room. "Hey guys!" Sonic said, plopping down on the stool right next to Johnny. Johnny Lightfoot was a rabbit with a red jacket. He was considered the most mature of the four boys, taking martial arts classes in his spare time and generally takes a lot of initiative when it comes to helping out around the house. He was a well mannered kid who usually acted as the voice of reason, often trying to talk the others out of trying to do any dangerous stunts at the skate park where they'd usually hang out. Too bad the boys never listened to him on that. "Hey Sonic. What's up?" Johnny said, giving his pal Sonic a high five. "Nothing much." Sonic said with a shrug. "Just stopping by to hang out." Sonic looked over to his other two friends across the table. Porker Lewis was a pig with a black leather jacket and blue jeans. He was a bit of a nervous wreck at times, had it not been for his buddies having his back usually. To the side of him was Ben "The Mutt" Muttski, a yellow dog with brown spots. Ben was always fascinated with the work of Sonic's uncle Chuck, probably because he found his own family and life to be quite dull. Porker and Ben were the ones who usually hung out at Uncle Chuck's workshop. He'd teach them all his methods. Engineering. Programming. Schematics. Ben and Porker were practically his students. "Sooooooo…" Sonic was waiting for one of them to say something. Ben looked up from his peanut butter sandwich, his favorite food, and just gave Sonic a look. "Well it's about time you show up." Said Ben in a playfully mocking tone. They liked to mess with Sonic when it came to his timing. For such a fast kid, he doesn't manage his schedule too well. "Oh har har." said Sonic. Porker Lewis could be heard snorting with laughter while having his lunch. "You guys build anything interesting today?" Sonic asked, trying to start up a proper conversation. "We built a toaster." Said Porker, looking up from his toast, excited to talk about the work they did. "Hahahaha! No really though, what did you guys build?" Sonic asked, believing that Ben and Porker were pulling his leg. Porker and Ben both looked at each other and then at Sonic. "Your uncle is having us start small with what we build." Ben responded. "It may be just toasters now, but eventually, we could end up building tanks!" Ben and Porker were giddy with the possibilities. "What's so cool about a big dumb tank?" asked Sonic. "Those things are all big and slow. You wouldn't catch me on something so boring." Ben just sorta rolled his eyes. "I mean I guess." He admitted rather reluctantly. "All you need is to chuck a couple of grenades at it and it's done for." "Exactly!" Sonic exclaimed "You're just a sitting duck in one of those things." Sonic and friends then turned their attention to the sound of knocking against the door frame. Sonic got up to answer it. "Um, excuse me Sonic, but is your uncle around?" Asked Longclaw the Owl. Longclaw was a female owl with brown and white feathers, green eyes and a golden vest around her upper body. "Uncle Chuck is busy Longclaw. If you got something to tell him, I can relay it to him." Sonic promised her. "That's awfully nice of you Sonic, but I'm afraid that this is pretty urgent." Said Longclaw. "You see, there's some awfully strange activity going on at the Sunrise Gate Zone on the outskirts of town." She continued. "Oh? What kind of activity?" Asked Sonic, raising a brow. "Well I heard what sounded like drills and hammers hitting against metal. I also saw these weird machines that looked like various creatures such as Ladybugs, what looked to be a platypus duck, and a chameleon." Longclaw explained. "Hey, how about I go and check it out?" Sonic offered. "Are you sure Sonic? It might be dangerous." Warned Porker. "Trust me, I'll be back in a jiffy." Sonic reassured before he revved up his feet and took off.
Sonic made his way to where all the commotion originated from. After he screeched to a halt, he took a moment to take in the scenery -Sunrise Gate, a place so quaint but at the same time pretty complex to navigate. Loop De-loops, or Shuttle loops as most of the residents call them, and spiral tunnels within the hills, the dirt and grass had a diamond pattern; the flowers were being blown by the cool breeze- you could say that they were dancing to a very uplifting song that only they could hear. "Hmm I don't see anything wrong so far… where's all the action?" Sonic pondered to himself out loud. He then turned his head to the sound of a motor running. What he saw did resemble a ladybug, but only the shape. It also seemed to move around on a single wheel. He was expecting red and black colors but instead it was mostly silver with some yellow or gold on it. Sonic put up his guard since it was coming in his direction, but the little thing sped right past him. Sonic turned around to see it had begun to use it's little pincers to begin digging into the ground. "What's it digging up?" Sonic asked out loud. He watched it for a good minute and gave up on waiting. "Okay yeah, I'm bored now." Sonic said as he walked up to the robot. "Hey! What're you doing here?" Sonic asked. The robot turned to Sonic and just looked at him. "Huh… can't talk I see." Sonic said to the robot. It just simply turned back around and continued digging. "Now hold on, I don't think you're allowed to do that as far as I know." Sonic said as he reached his hands out to pull him away from the dug up dirt. The ladybug looking bot tried to drive away from him, but it decided to actually go in reverse toward Sonic. It ended up bumping Sonic off and he fell down to the floor. "So… that's how it's gonna be huh?" Asked Sonic, slightly annoyed. Sonic then jumped up in the air and curled up into a ball. When he came down on the robot, it was torn apart. It was as if his quills were razor sharp that allowed him to destroy it. Then out of the robot came what looked like fireworks. "Huh… That's a weird power supply." Sonic noted. He heard more sounds farther down the path. He continued running to where the commotion was coming from, and he came across other strange looking robots. Some looked like a duck of sorts, and others looked like geckos. One of the gecko bots shot a tiny green ball and it ended up hitting Sonic. Sonic rubbed his head after the ball hit him. "That's it!" Shouted Sonic as he jumped into the gecko, smashing it. He also smashed one of the duck robots. "Hey, Sonic!" Said a familiar voice. Sonic turned to see a tall light blue Rabbit with a red bow tie. "Hey Feels! Good to see ya!" Sonic greeted. "Yeah. Tell me, how's Jules been?" Asked Feels. "Dad's been doing good!" Sonic replied. "That's good to hear. So you're also here to investigate what's been going on?" Feels asked. "Yep!" Sonic replied. "Well, I scouted ahead and saw some people doing some construction. So I'll leave the rest to you." Feels explained. "What? You're leaving me with the sloppy seconds?" Sonic pouted. "Hahahaha! Well, I'll see you around kiddo." Feels bidded farewell.
Sonic ran ahead some more and was immediately hit in the head yet again from above. He got up on the floor and looked behind him, seeing the culprit just keep hopping on. "Why I oughta…" Sonic growled as he ran up to the robot and rolled up into a ball, destroying it. He looked at the robot and noticed it resembled a rabbit. In place of its feet was a spring that had a strange logo on the bottom. A round head with a goofy smile and a fantastic mustache. "Quite the ugly mug if you ask me." Sonic noted. He also noticed the same logo on the grass in various places. Sonic then came to the realisation that it was a stamp. He went over to a nearby lake and looked at it, seeing his reflection and noticing the logo branded on his forehead. Sonic immediately dunked his head into the water and shook it around. After a few seconds, Sonic pulled his head out and wiped the logo off as best he could. He went back to investigate the rabbit bot. He noticed some writing on it saying 'Property of Dr. Ivo Robotnik'. "Okay, so I have a name." Said Sonic. He then continued making his way to the source of the noise.
Sonic reached the most beautiful part of Sunrise Gate. It looked like a town made up entirely of gold, even the dancing flowers looked golden. Castles-like structures can be seen around the area, they most likely belong to the Acorn military. Sonic's dad used to be a part of the Acorn military's Air Force, which is why they had a Biplane. Sonic also noticed that there were strange tiki heads. Why those were there, Sonic could not figure out. His best guess was that they were probably souvenirs brought back from a different Island. He started running through the place, smashing through more of those robots along the way, going through more Shuttle loops, though these were probably the most fancy loops Sonic had ever seen. They were branded with what looked to be deer antlers. Though they were too big to be real, they were definitely made by hand. Sonic jumped up to the higher parts of Sunrise Gate and jumped onto a strange Boulder floating in the air. He kept running but ended up going around the floating rock. "What's going on?" Asked Sonic as he ran all the way around back to the top. Sonic pondered for a bit and came to the conclusion that these boulders have their own gravity. This gave Sonic an Idea. Sonic started running around it over and over to gain speed. He curled up into a ball and his speed increased even more. "This'll be awesome!" Said Sonic with excitement. After a few more rotations, Sonic Jumped off and was sent flying "Woooooo baby! I'm burnin' outta control!" Shouted Sonic as he flew through the air at incredible speed. Sonic eventually landed back on solid ground, and the first thing he saw were cranes moving metal beams and more of those robots. It looked like they were building something here. Sonic decided to wait until he could find this 'Robotnik' fellow.
"Oh Uncle Ivo I'm so excited that we're finally going to build that theme park you always dreamed of!" Said a rather short man in a green coat, brown hair and a long pointy nose. "Same Snively! I was so happy to start work that I forgot to put on some actual clothes!" Said the big mustached man in red and green pajamas with white polka dots all over it, petting his pet chicken on his shoulder. "Oh by the way Uncle, I've been meaning to tell you. I've lost the signal to some of our machines." Said Snively a little worried. "Huh? That's strange. I wonder what happened to them..." Pondered Robotnik. "Hey!" Shouted Sonic from behind them. "Who are you?" Asked Robotnik. "If you're wondering who's responsible for smashing your bots, then I'm your guy." Confirmed Sonic. "And judging from your looks, you must be Robotnik.". "Yes I am Ivo Robotnik. But who are you? And why did you smash my machines?" Robotnik asked again. "Names' Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog." he introduced himself. "And I gotta ask. What kind of name is Robotnik? Is that like a robot named Nick?". "What? No!" Ivo replied, sounding annoyed. "I smashed them because they attacked me." Sonic answered his second question. "My robots wouldn't attack anyone!" Robotnik denied. "Yeah sure, and I'm the king of lollipop land!" Sonic Retorted, not believing him. "One of them shot a green ball at my head!". "The Listerions? They dispense gumballs!" Robotnik replied. "Well then they dispense them pretty hard now don't they? What're you building here anyway?" Asked Sonic, tapping his foot on the floor repeatedly. "We're building my theme park." Robotnik answered. "Speaking of uncle, what shall we call it?" asked Snively. "How about Eggmanland." Sonic chimed in. "Since that's what you look like!" Robotnik's demeanor changed ever so slightly. "What did you say?" Ivo said, with a noticeable sense of anger in his voice. "You heard me, Eggman!" Sonic taunted. Robotnik had had enough of this child. "That's it." He said. "Away with you! My nephew and I have to get back to our work, and we aren't going to let a little pest like you get in the way.". "Do you even have a license to build this here?" Asked Sonic, with a good point. "Uh, well… N-no but-" Robotnik replied nervously, having completely forgotten about all the legal stuff. It would seem he was so excited to get his theme park built that he had gotten ahead of himself. "Then I would suggest you pack your things and leave!" Sonic demanded. "I'm not going to listen to an impudent child like you." Robotnik replied, aggravated. "Ok then Robuttnik, I'll just go get the authorities." Sonic then begins to make his way to the military base nearby, but he feels something tug his arm. "No please, don't!" Begged Robotnik. "Hey! Let go of me!" Sonic struggled out and proceeded to kick him away. "Why you little!" Robotnik growled as he grabbed his pet chicken and threw him at Sonic. The chicken hits Sonic and proceeds to peck him in the face repeatedly. "OW! Knock it off!" Sonic shouted at the chicken as it flew off him. "Oh no, I'm terribly sorry! I didn't mean to throw Cluck at you!" Robotnik apologized. "Grrr! That's it!" Shouted Sonic angrily as he put up his fists. Sonic ran up and punched Robotnik in the gut. "Gah! You brat! You wanna play rough? Fine!" Said Robotnik furiously as he got into a large, silver, orb like pod. As he began to flip a couple of switches, the pod began making noises and started to lift up off the ground. "What's that, your 'Eggmobile'?" Sonic asked with a smirk, thinking he was clever. "Can you stop with the Egg puns!?" Shouted Robotnik, annoyed. "Hm… Nah!" Sonic retorted. Robotnik dug through all his stuff in the 'Eggmobile' and took out one of his pillows. He chucked it at Sonic, who suddenly disappeared from Ivo's sights. "What the?! Where'd he go?!" Robotnik asked, panicking. "Right behind you." Said Sonic poking Robotnik's shoulder. "Wha… How are you so fast?!" questioned Robotnik, in shock. "Did you not guess from the name? I'm Sonic, the fastest thing alive!" Sonic said with pride. Sonic then kicked Robotnik out of his 'Eggmobile', and he fell face first into the dirt.
"Uncle Ivo, are you alright?" asked Snively, worried. "Pack your things. We're leaving." Robotnik replied. "But uncle, what about-" Snively was about to ask before he was cut off. "We're moving somewhere else to build the park. Any ideas?" Asked Ivo. "Well… there is an Island south of here." Answered Snively. Sonic though was eavesdropping on their discussion. As Snively helped Robotnik up, and Ivo called Cluck over to them, they made their way into the hovercraft and began to float away. This wasn't over. Sonic couldn't help but wonder; Why were these strange men using robots? Why were they building things on property that didn't belong to them? Was this actually about a theme park, or was it actually a lie to cover up something more devious? Sonic didn't trust the fat old man, nor did he trust his meek looking nephew. He couldn't just let Robotnik get away? What if he goes and causes more trouble for others. "Someone's gotta put a stop to this!" Sonic proclaimed. With that, he dashed off to go and get help from his friends.
As Sonic made his way back to Uncle Chuck's, thoughts of Eggman ran through his mind. Why was he here? What purpose did this 'theme park' serve? He seemed very smart, he even had a flying vehicle. "He's gotta be an evil scientist bent on world domination!" Sonic concluded. What could be his motive? Maybe he wants recognition for his great mind? Or maybe he's just a grade-A jerk! Well for all Sonic cared, he was a jerk. He finally made it back to Uncle Chuck's place and knocked on the garage door. "Yo Unc, let me in!" pleaded Sonic. The door began to open up but before it fully could, Sonic dashed to the dining room. "Oh, that was quick Sonic." said Longclaw, a bit surprised. "What did you find?". "I found out who was responsible. He goes by Dr. Robotnik. He said he was building a theme park, without permission I'll have you know." Sonic explained. "Did he fight back?" asked Porker. "Oh you bet he did. His robots attacked me, and he tried to tell me they didn't mean to. We traded a few blows, but I sent him packing." Sonic answered with confidence. "I think he's out to take over the planet. I also heard he's on his way to an Island south of here." Sonic explained. "So what're ya going to do sonnyboy?" asked Uncle Chuck. "I'm going after him. Johnny, Porker, Ben! You're with me!" Sonic called out to his friends. "Sorry Sonic, but I'm gonna stay here with Chuck. I'm not really a fighter." Ben Muttski apologized. "It's alright buddy. Besides, the three of us are probably enough." Responded Sonic. The three of them bid farewell to Chuck, Longclaw, and Muttski and ran off to Sonic's house. "So how are we gonna follow him exactly?" Asked Johnny. "We're taking my dad's plane, the Tornado." Sonic answered. "Can you even fly a plane?" asked Porker. "Of course I can. And don't worry about permission, my dad passed it down to me not too long ago." Sonic explained. Sonic proceeded to grab both Johnny and Porker by the wrist. "By the way, you may wanna hold your breath." Said Sonic. "Wait, what?" Porker replied, confused before Sonic sped up in the direction of his house. Along the way, they sped past the polar bear Sonic met earlier, spinning him around. The polar bear eventually stopped spinning and looked in the direction Sonic dashed to, and gave a sigh of relief before he kept walking.
Sonic came to a screeching halt as they reached his house. "Huff… huff… Warn me.. A little sooner, will ya Sonic." Said Porker, catching his breath. "Sorry Lewis, but time is of the essence." responded Sonic as he made his way to where the Tornado was being kept, while Johnny helped Porker catch his breath. Sonic then hopped into the red and silver biplane, branded with his name on the sides of it. "What are you doing?" Asked a familiar female voice to the side of him. Sonic looked over to where the voice came from and saw his sister Sonia who looked a little unpleased. "Oh uh, sis… you see I was uh…" Sonic tried to find an answer. Thankfully he didn't have to, since a strange sound came from the house. Their mother yelled that it had something to do with their brother Manic. "Oh! Why I… Stay right here!" Sonia ordered, as she headed into the house. He began flipping various switches and placed the pilot helmet and goggles on. Unfortunately the helmet didn't fit him perfectly. "Quick you guys! Hop on!" Sonic said. "Onto what exactly?" Johnny asked. "I don't know, the wings I guess!" Sonic responded. Johnny got onto the left wing and held on tight, looking rather annoyed. Porker latched onto the wing so hard, all while having the most anxious look on his face. "Let's juice and jam!" Sonic yelled. "You may wanna work on your one liners." Johnny critiqued. Sonic groaned, and pulled the throttle back. Porker could be heard internally squealing as the plane began to move forward. "Sonic! Get back here!" Yelled Sonia as she came back out of the house. The Tornado then began to lift off the ground, with Sonic pulling the controls so that they could get off the ground faster. Eventually, they were high enough to fully take off and leave Christmas Island. Next stop, South Island!
