Chapter 79: Turbulence
During the flight, Sam and Ron were both silent as they took their seats. The ship was getting turbulence, in more ways than one.
Sam had a bitter frown on her face, while Ron just looked like his heart was smashed as Rufus patted his shoulder.
Neither spoke up but both were undoubtedly thinking about the same thing.
I can't believe that Kim is into him... Ron thought, feeling sad.
I knew we shouldn't have trusted that girl… Sam thought, looking bitter and even angry too.
Danny and Kim rejoined sometime, unaware others saw them.
They were more focused on what had been happening with than who might have seen them. Kim, as always, tried to act as the leader and give orders.
"You, Tucker and Jazz should probably wait somewhere we can drop you off, so that you don't get hurt." Kim suggested.
While Tucker and Jazz considered her suggestion, one did not.
"We can take care of ourselves..." Sam protested, being stubborn.
"Ghosts are one thing, Sam." Jazz said.
"And this… isn't enough to make me want to listen to her." Sam muttered.
Kim frowned, took a deep breath and tried to remain patient. She tried again.
"Look, Sam. I'm only trying to keep you safe..." Kim said.
The goth girl frowned harder.
"I said that I don't need your help!" Sam said, being stubborn and uncooperative.
She then got up and stormed away.
Okay, this is getting annoying... Kim thought, irritated.
"Sorry about that, I don't know why she's acting so flippy..." Danny said.
"It's not your fault..." Kim said, before she went to go give the goth girl a piece of her mind.
After Kim follows, Tucker shrugged.
"Are there any snacks on this thing?" He called out.
In the cargo bay
Kim followed Sam there and began to confront her.
"What's wrong?" Kim asks.
"Nothing's wrong with me. Why? I don't have anything else for you to mess with." Sam said.
"You know what I'm talking about. Why are you acting even more uncooperative and unfriendly than usual?" Kim said.
"I don't see why I have to take orders from some silly cheerleader who thinks she's so amazing!" Sam snapped.
Kim glared at her.
"Okay, I can't do this anymore..." The redhead said as she crossed her arms.
"Do what anymore?" Sam asked in a rude tone.
However, she was surprised by the harsh glare the cheerleader sent her, looking more dangerous than when she's fighting bad guys.
"THIS! I can't deal with your attitude anymore. What the heck is your problem, Sam? I thought we got over this already?"Kim asked, glaring at her.
Sam hated being talked to this way and fired back.
"My problem is you..." Sam said, her emotions getting the better of her.
"Excuse me, Miss Big Mouth?!" Kim asked, offended.
"I saw it." Sam stated.
"It?" Kim asks.
"The kiss…" Sam said.
Meanwhile
As Tucker went to grab a bite with the rest, Danny and Ron were both alone as Will flew. Ron kept his distance from the ghost boy, who was curious why Ron was acting like this.
"Everything okay there?" Danny asked.
"Huh? Oh... sure." Ron said, still keeping a distance from him.
Rufus saw this and frowned.
"Thief!" Rufus squeaked angrily at him, much to Danny's confusion.
Ron heard this and said nothing. He still refused to face the ghost boy, who kept sending them questioning looks.
He took Kim… The blonde boy thought, sighing.
Kim was aghast.
"You saw that?" She asked.
"Believe me, I WISH that I didn't had to see you two swapping spit! I can't believe that you'd seduce someone two years younger!" Sam shouted.
"Whoa… hold on. You and Danny are just friends, right?" Kim asks.
Sam pulled back and realized what she was doing. She tried to save face and hide the REAL reason for her anger.
"R-Right… and my friend shouldn't be with a cheerleader, even one older than you!" Sam went.
Kim blinked.
What is with her? So they're friends? That doesn't me-
Then a thought came to her.
"Wait… do you like him?" Kim asks.
Sam flinched at that accusation and her face turned red in anger and embarrassment.
"Y-Yeah… he's my friend, duh." Sam went, trying to hide it.
"I mean… like him like him." Kim went.
Sam turned redder and looked away.
"Don't be stupid. We're as much friends as you and your dopey friend, Ron." Sam went, turning her back.
Hearing that made Kim flinched.
She wondered now exactly what was her exact relationship with Ron, prior to meeting Danny.
She knew that she cared about him but after that incident with Yori, people accused her of being jealous.
She wasn't, at least that's what she told herself.
However, ever since Danny became a part of her life, she hadn't thought much about that, mostly because of the Terakons and The Faction, but also because of Danny.
"Sam, I don't want to be your enemy..." Kim said.
"Too bad..." Sam grumbled, being stubborn and walked away.
Elsewhere
Vlad was still trapped on the island and was desperate to get away from it.
He managed to slip away and tried to find a spot where no one can see him try to fly away.
"Time to go..." The villain said as he tried to fly away.
Unfortunately for him, thanks to the island's inhabitants, his plan failed.
"There you are." Slashfang said as he snapped his talons like fingers.
Vlad soon was shocked, causing him to crash to the ground and groaned in pain.
"What is this?!" He yelled.
"Did you think you'd escape?!" Slashfang said, approaching him. "My cousin hasn't finished with you yet…" He said cousin with disdain.
He grabbed Vlad, who tried to get out, but found himself unable to thanks to the collar shocking him again.
"NNNOOOOO!" Vlad yelled in frustration, still trapped and with no means of escape.
Soon as I can, that's going on our leader so I can move on to the next step… Slashfang thought with an evil grin.
Vlad, however, saw the grin on his face and realized something.
"Not a fan of your cousin, I take it?" Vlad said.
"And what of it?" Slashfang asks.
Vlad grinned as a plan formed.
"I'm guessing you want that throne?" Vlad asked.
Slashfang held Vlad up like a doll to his face. He glared intensely a moment and Vlad feared this would be the end. However, Slashfang smiled.
"And a flying ape like you thinks he can help me?" Slashfang asks.
"I have… a suggestion…" Vlad offered, smiling as he saw a potential pawn.
Meanwhile, in the Ghost Zone
Clockwork saw these events and sighed.
"So, this is our path so far?" He asked himself.
"It didn't have to be..." A voice was heard from behind.
Clockwork turned around and saw an old "friend". The time master frowned in disappointment.
"Sojourn... I see you're still around..." Clockwork said, upset.
"And I see you haven't realized your mistake and just reset the timeline, find what brought those two together and make it not happen..." Sojourn said.
The time master shook his head.
"Time must play out, nothing has happened between the two yet to justify that." Clockwork responded.
"Outside of those beasts. Perhaps if you do change things… not only do we stop this, but him as well..." Sojourn suggested.
"No..." Clockwork said, turning down that idea.
"Why? What do you possibly gain by letting those two meet each other?" Sojourn questioned.
"Let's just say… I'm curious. Now, to see how Danny is doing…" Clockwork said as the time master activated another time window and saw what was happening with his young friend.
With Danny
The ghost boy saw Ron sulking and wondered what was wrong.
"Are you upset?" Danny asks.
"Upset?! Nah! The Ronster isn't bothered by… much…" Ron went, trying to sound calm.
He tried to play it cool but Danny was not fooled.
"Ron, seriously? Did something happen?" Danny asked.
"What? Pshhh...No... nothing is different. We're all pals, me and Kim, me and Rufus, you and your pals, you and Kim kissed and stuff..." Ron said, only to realize what he let slip out. "Doh..."
Rufus dragged a paw down his face.
Danny blinked.
"You saw us kiss?" He asked.
The blonde goofball dropped his false smile and nodded.
"Yeah..." He said, still looking depressed.
Danny saw the expression on Ron's face and knew the truth.
He really likes her, huh? He thought before he sighed. I can't believe I'm doing this…
"I think you should tell her how you feel..." Danny said.
"Huh?" Ron asked, confused.
"I said that I think you should tell Kim how you feel. If you really feel that way about her, and if she feels the same way, then I'll back off..." Danny said.
Ron seemed surprised and even lost.
"But...what about you? Everyone knows how crazy you are about Kim. You like her a lot..." He said, totally confused.
Danny sighed.
"Its true, I like Kim a lot, but I want her to be happy. If she feels the same way about you, I'll back off. I want her to be happy even if it's not with me..." He said sincerely.
Ron was stunned and even a little grateful to hear this.
"Thanks." He said, getting up and smiling before his stomach grumbled. "Oh, snackage!" He said, heading off to join the rest.
Once he was gone and took Rufus with him, Danny sat down and sighed.
I can't believe I'm doing this… but I don't want her friends to not like me.
He started to wonder now if him meeting Kim was some kind of fluke, that he wasn't meant to meet her and she was having a thing with Ron before he effectively forced his way in.
The ghost boy was confused.
He knew that he liked Kim, he was even willing to say that he was in love with her and he wanted her to feel the same way about him but he also wanted her to be happy at the same time.
Could she really be happy being more than friends with me? Why is this so hard to meet someone and to be liked back? He thought, wondering what this means for him in Kim's life.
Speaking of the cheerleader, she came back.
"You okay?"
He sat up, realizing Kim was there with him now, alone.
"Oh… uh… where's Sam?" He asks.
"Went to join the rest." She said.
Danny realizes now he and Kim were alone now. This meant they could talk about certain topics, namely about their friends.
"I'm really sorry about Sam..." Danny said apologetically.
"It's not your fault..." Kim said, knowing that Sam is responsible for her own actions.
The ghost boy frowned, hating all the tension that's been going on
"I just don't understand why she's acting so crazy. I thought we were already passed her "I hate cheerleaders" issue with you..." He said.
Kim sighed.
Clueless... She thought, knowing the real reason Sam has a beef with her.
She was jealous. She wanted Danny all to herself and she resented Kim for, in her own eyes, "stealing" him away from her.
I wonder if I should say something to him. Normally, I'm not one to reveal another girl's feelings but that goth is going too far... Kim thought, wondering how Danny feels about her.
All the while, Danny had his own problems right now.
Namely, he recalled the talk with Ron and sighed.
Should I say something? I mean...it's not my place...is it? He thought, worried.
Kim recalled Sam's actions and wondered now if what she felt was mutual, even if Danny didn't see it yet.
"Danny...be honest...exactly what is it that you and Sam have between each other?" Kim asked.
"Sam is one of my oldest friends and that's it..." Danny said.
"Are you sure?" Kim asked, thinking he's not being honest.
"Yes, I'm sure. Don't tell me that you think there's more to it? Why does everyone seem to think that there is a thing between us?" Danny asked, sounding irritated.
Maybe because she clearly has a thing for you and is too chicken to admit it like the "individual" she thinks she is. Kim thought, but didn't say out loud.
"Not sure. She's kind of… biased towards me." She said out loud.
"Look...I know Sam can be intense and pretty biased with her views and opinions, but she really is a good person. She's very strong willed, passionate of her beliefs and always tries to do what she thinks is right...she just tends to get carried away with her agendas and she's really, really stubborn and hates being wrong..." Danny said.
"I noticed." Kim muttered.
"So what about you and Ron?" Danny asks.
"Why?" Kim asks, feeling suspicious.
"Just asking." Danny responded, wondering if what Ron feels is mutual.
"Ron has been my first and oldest friend. Sure, he can be a goofball at times, but he really is a wonderful guy. He's sweet, loyal and always there for me when I need him the most..." Kim said, having a small smile on her face.
The ghost boy noticed it, feeling his heart hurt.
"I see…" Danny said, looking uncomfortable. "I should… get a snack or whatever they're doing over there." He said as he walked past her.
"Okay…" Kim said, watching him go and feeling as conflicted as he did.
Both of them were silent now as they were separated, unsure on what to do upon realizing there must be something more than friendship with others.
All the while, Will Du, who piloted the ship, shook his head.
"Do they even know I'm here and can hear them, or are they just that dense?" He asks himself.
Unknown to Team Phantom and Team Possible, they weren't the only ones heading to the island. About 20 miles away, a military copter was landing atop a naval ship, inside were soldiers and a general, who was currently deciding their next action.
"This is the location we were given and we have the island in sight. Awaiting orders, Sir." The soldier said.
"Be prepared to fire if necessary." The general said on the other end.
"Yes, sir..." The soldier said as they headed for the controls.
They weren't the only ones as many jets and other shups were also reaching the island now. All of them having armed with jets, choppers, tanks and a large assortment of weaponry.
Once there, the general stepped out and pulled out a megaphone.
"This is General Sampson of the United States Military. Surrender the hostages or we will be forced to attack..." He ordered.
The Terakon leader, however, seemed more amused than anything. Getting off his throne, he grinned.
"So unwise..." Thirorex said before gesturing to his generals. "Be prepared… make sure all is ready."
