Tris reads over the meeting minutes from their latest leadership meeting, highlighting another passage for clarification. She sighs because she knows that it may come across as being nitpicky, but in the over two years she's been in the leadership apprenticeship program she's grown to know that the Dauntless leaders have a certain way they want things done. Max and Eric, both former Erudite, are sticklers for details and proper grammar, and Tris' fellow leadership apprentice Peter was responsible for meeting minutes this time. As usual, he was sloppy, and since it was her turn to proofread she is already anticipating the argument they will have.

Unfortunately, arguing with Peter is an almost daily occurrence since their unpleasant breakup several months ago. Peter and Tris had dated for almost the entirety of their three years in Dauntless, meeting as dependents so many years ago when they were both in lower level schools. The two were a bit of an unlikely pair, Peter had an air of cockiness that predated meeting Tris, and a competitive edge that was a turn off to most people he met. Tris, however, had her own competitive streak that made her challenge the way he carried himself at every turn. He wanted to be better than her, but he also wanted to be better because of her.

They had a close friendship all throughout school, and while most people who knew Tris Prior believed she only transferred to Dauntless to follow her cousin Tobias Eaton, Peter knew better. He and Tris had discussed at length where they planned on transferring, and when the two spilled their blood over the coals on choosing day they thought their fate was set.

Their competitive streak went into overdrive during initiation, and the two were constantly battling for that coveted first place spot on the transfer board. An outsider may have thought there was no way a relationship between them could even develop, much less work, but they found that their passion for arguing also turned into other types of passion as well, and the two transfers began hooking up to blow off steam on the regular. Those hook ups turned into something much more serious, and they moved into a committed relationship.

The first cracks appeared when the transfers began being scored with the Dauntless born, and while Tris continued to excel a new name crept in between hers and Peter's, a Dauntless born named Uriah Pedrad. Tris and Uri proved to be fast friends, and that made an already jealous Peter even more suspicious of the girlfriend he claimed to love. Dauntless had a full leadership staff in place, and he thought it was going to already be damn near impossible to be invited to train for the apprentice program, much less have to compete with his own girlfriend and her newfound friend to get it.

What no one knew was that Dauntless' leadership, save Eric, were all at or nearing retirement age and Max had plans to pull heavily from this extremely talented initiation class to form a junior level of leaders. He knew Harrison would be retiring soon, but could imagine that Roni, Delilah and even he wouldn't be far behind. This particular class had more promise than any he could remember and he had decided he would take the top three from this year's class to create a program that would shape the way Dauntless led for many years in the future.

Even once Peter had made the top three and joined his girlfriend and Uriah in the apprenticeship, he couldn't control his jealousy and competitiveness with Tris. She was excelling in the program, impressing everyone she crossed paths with, and drawing the praise from not only Dauntless but other faction's leaders as well. Once again she was the favorite, and it infuriated him to consistently be left behind. Their passionate arguments no longer led to passion under the sheets, instead it drove a huge wedge between them. Peter, still struggling with his own maturity and unable to move forward, ended their relationship while he was on an ambassador assignment in his former faction of Candor. Tris was hurt by the callous way he treated their time together, but was able to be calm and mature and not let it impact her work.

This made Peter even angrier, but he's been working very hard to grow.

Tris knew her relationship with Peter wasn't a healthy one, and she had even talked with several people she was close with to get what she hoped was an unbiased opinion. Her cousin Tobias was very quiet and introverted, but he was observant and he could see that Peter's jealous ways were hurting his cousin. He was the first to voice his concerns, and since she knew he wasn't one for any type of gossip she listened. Christina and Uriah, her two best friends, both had been gently warning her for months that their relationship wasn't healthy. Tris knew they were all right, and it felt good to have her own feelings validated by the people she loved and trusted.

She finishes up typing her notes, and sent the edited file over to Peter. Within minutes, she receives an alert on her tablet.

"That didn't take long." She murmurs. She opens up the secure leadership texting app and is confused when she finds no messages. She scowls and closes the app, and is surprised to see an alert on the DateMe app.

DateMe is a dating app her cousin Tobias told her about once she pried out of him how he managed to meet his current girlfriend Amy when he is so notoriously shy. It's a different kind of app, where some of the dating apps were used only for hookups, this app forced you to get to know the other person. It had built in face recognition software that didn't allow for any identifiable pictures to be used as part of your profile, forcing you in a way to get to know a person before sharing who you are. It also had the same sort of security built in that disallowed the exchange of pictures that showed faces until some arbitrary amount of time talking to someone. Tris liked it because as a member of the junior level of leadership, she needed to have discretion in who she talked to, so the anonymity was perfect for her.

She'd talked to a handful of different people since installing the app the month after she and Peter broke up. She'd installed it more out of curiosity, because she wasn't necessarily ready for another relationship. Most conversations fizzled on their own, but there was someone who went by the handle of ManofMystery that she had continued to talk to since day one.

ManofMystery: Is your evening as boring as mine?

OnYourSix: Quite possibly, I'm making edits to someone else's paperwork.

ManofMystery: Exciting Thursday night.

OnYourSix: What about you?

ManofMystery: It's actually quite similar, waiting on some paperwork so I can make final edits. We're an exciting pair.

Tris smiles, and she settles down on her couch, looking forward to another evening of talking with this man of mystery.
