Hello and welcome back to chapter 6 of Death and Decay, many of you enjoyed the last chapter. With the introduction of the Zoldyck family, I wonder if you all can tell what this means for the future of the DxD universe, or could I really even call it exclusively the DxD universe anymore with the various introductions of entities from foreign universes. If you in fact don't know what it means for the Zoldyck family patriarch to make his appearance then I will tell you this, the Hunter x Hunter universe will play a heavy hand in the distant future. Or in other words DxD will be crossed with Hunter x Hunter, a cross I think will work out rather well in my opinion. Touki and Nen are honestly incredibly similar, both being the utilization of Life Energy to increase offensive and defensive capabilities while simultaneously increasing vitality. Nen of course is something far more advanced with many different functions and uses compared to Touki, but you could see Touki as a very underdeveloped version of Nen. The presence of Kaiju like we have seen with Mothra is also something that is plausible considering all of the unknown horrors of the dark continent, especially with how vast it is comparatively with the areas inhabited by humans. These are not the only reasons for my crossing of DxD and HxH, since we are in the era of early human history it is much more plausible that things will change heavily with Nero's involvement. I have a few ideas brewing of how not only the human society will change but also the Devils as well. Though I guess you can only wait and see…

Releasing a heavy sigh as I plop myself on my comfortable chair, my eyes drawn to the flame. Reaching into my front pocket and extracting my watch I peer at the time.
"5:23…" I think with a frown, looking out the nearby window seeing that the sun has yet to make its appearance. I'd wager to guess I only have another 45 minutes to an hour before sunrise. Now that is how much time I have to find out exactly how to be in two places at the same time. One with my new mentor Zeno and the other with my peerage to help them train. I can't miss my first appearance on both occasions, it wouldn't set the greatest first impression.
Bringing my hand to my face as I close my eyes and pinch the bridge of my nose in thought. Freezing as an idea comes to mind before I begin to chuckle and shake my head. Of course, the answer seems so simple now.
"A cloning ability…" I think as I direct a wry grin at myself for not thinking of it sooner.
Pulling up the store and mentally search the keyword, clone. This brings up many options, ranging from a literally cloning machine to an illusion. While the shadow clone ability would be a good option, I need something that would be solid enough not to disperse after just a little damage. I also need something I am directly in control of, like a split conscious not something independent from myself. I surf the store for a few minutes until I come across exactly what I am looking for.
Replication (Active) [Level Max] – The ability to divide the user into two different bodies. Both would be perfect copies of each other, and nothing would be able to differentiate the two. Both bodies are under the direct control of the user, this however can be difficult and taxing as the user must divide attention to the actions of two bodies. Items and inventory are still accessible to both bodies, though they are supplied with new status' until they are once again rejoined, and the Status will automatically update with newest stats. However, if one body dies the other must retrieve the corpse in order to attain all experience, stats, and skills. If the user does not do this the experience, stats and skills gained by the deceased body will be lost. [A limit has been established for this ability by the system, due to many previous gamers shattering their own minds from the exertion of being in control of more than 2 bodies.]
Mana Cost – 50,000
Cost – 10,000,000 credits
It's a little pricey but I find it worth it in the long run, this way I can attend events while my other body is grinding. No longer will I have to run around trying to be in multiple places at once. Though it is a bit risky to use, the potential to lose what stats I gain is great. But the other options aren't really as beneficial, so I will need to compromise. It also only allows me to be able to create one more body, but I don't really see a problem with it.
Purchasing the skill and immediately putting it into use. Casting it an uncomfortable feeling runs through me, almost sickly as I noticeably feel myself get weaker from such a large amount of mana being expended at one time. A perfect copy of myself phases out of me, simultaneously my mind feels as if it is bisected. The sudden feeling of experiencing the combined senses of two people is overwhelming. My sight is filled with two versions, one of me sitting down and the other standing.
Testing my mobility through both bodies immediately finding it a challenge to control them separately as both move in the exact same manner. Giving myself numerous moments of practice until it becomes manageable to move both simultaneously. Though still difficult, I am now able to be both at the same time. Anything more advanced than simply breathing, moving or talking would take me more time but this is a start.
I'll get used to it soon enough…
I may have to hold off on actual fighting today until I get a better handle on the amount of focus required. But I guess it really depends on how Zeno wants to train me, with my peerage on the other hand I don't necessarily need to do the fighting. Ill mostly have them fight just to see what I am working with.
Shuffle*
Turning my head, I see the little girl pushing the covers over herself and rubbing her eyes sleepily. Quickly teleporting the clone out of sight to the familiar forest to meet with my new mentor Zeno. With a sigh I get up from my chair and making my way over to the bed. Her eyes shift over to me a bit anxiously before she covers herself protectively under the sheets.
"How are you feeling?" I ask only getting silence in return. Right, I forgot she doesn't really speak. Looking down at her I frown seeing her shake slightly.
"While you are under my care I assure you, that you will never be harmed. You will be cared for, fed and nurtured for the rest of your life. Of that I promise." I say sincerely as our eyes meet as she relaxes seemingly understanding my words. She gives a nod of understanding as I just smile and give her head a pat.
"Now I am sure your hungry, how about we go and get something to eat?" I ask as her eyes widen slightly before getting a subtle nod. Smiling slightly as I get to my feet before gesturing for her to follow. I look down at her noticing just how small she is, of course with my gigantic height I dwarf her easily. But she seems smaller than the normal children her age, perhaps it is due to a lack of nutrition. Her previous appearance hasn't changed from before she absorbed the Evil Piece.
Though her skin and body seems to be healthier looking, no longer dangerously emaciated or baring a pale complexion. Her Short black hair seems softer and healthier. Her eyes still a gold color, though before they seemed empty only now to look to have a small growing spark residing in them. Probably due to someone actually showing her kindness, and since she is so young I'd wager to guess she is more trusting than if she'd be if she were older.
"Hold my hand please." I say as I reach out, a moment passes before a very small hand grabs onto my pinky. A blink later and were in the large dining hall, the entirety of my peerage already here and waiting. A small smile forms on my face as I see them all standing off to the side silently.
My sudden appearance draws their eyes, especially to the little girl who suddenly hides behind my leg. Attempting to escape all of the attention thrust upon her. I am mostly impressed she isn't more questioning about my rather obvious applications of magic. She did seem scared initially when I killed those guards, but I mean she did witness me crushing them to a literal pulp. So, fear is perfectly warranted in that situation, though maybe she has seen magic in use before?
Considering her nature, she may have unconsciously used some herself but there really isn't a way for me to find out until I teach her to speak. When we are able to communicate efficiently either myself or Sebastian will teach her the basics of educations and what not. But now that I think about it Sebastian may be the better choice in that regards.
"I'm happy to see everyone here, as I'm sure you have noticed. We have a new addition; this young girl is now a part of the Peerage. Please help her feel welcome. Her name…is Merlin." I trail off as I think about it for a moment, looking down into her eyes. Deciding on a name I mentally shrug before continuing.
"Pleasure to meet you, Merlin." Joan states with a pleasant smile while the men just give nods of acknowledgment.
"Now let us eat before we start our day of training." I say sitting down at the table before pulling Merlin onto my lap before she shuffles before she finds a comfortable position in the middle of my lap. Everyone else follows before taking a seat, the servants already bringing in freshly cooked food.
The smells eliciting a stomach growl from the girl on my lap, making me chuckle. As the large platter is placed in front of me, I pull off a piece of meat from the large drumstick. Bringing the meat in front of Merlin, I watch with a smirk as she easily accepts it into her mouth with glee.
My gaze shifts around the room watching for Grayfia's presence, seeing that she hasn't shown up I turn to Beowulf. Who seems to be devouring his food and drink with vigor, though I can see his eyebrows furrowed and a slight frown on his face.
"Beowulf." I sound out before he tilts his head to me as he chews and swallows the contents of his mouth.
"Huh?" He says looking around slightly confused at being pointed out.
"Tell me a little about yourself." I ask as I absentmindedly feed Merlin another piece of meat. Beowulf raises an eyebrow as he straightens before answering.
"Don't you already know what I was like from all the stories?" He says as I nod agreeing somewhat with his answer.
"Sure, but stories and legends only tell you so much about a person. They are often glorified and changed to seem more heroic or appealing to those who hear them. What I wonder is what you're really like. Sure, you're strong and charismatic, but that is a pretty general observation is it not?" I say taking a sip from my cup, savoring the taste of the wine before taking a large bite from my meat. I wonder what beast they took the meat from this time; it truly is delicious. The spices used are also superb.
Leaning over I grab a slice of soft bread, spreading butter over it and dipping it in olive oil before taking a bite. Humming in appreciation as I chew and take in the flavors. The bread is cooked fairly well too, I am going to have to show some more appreciation to the cooks. Feeding Merlin, a piece of my bread as she accepts it readily, before my gaze shifts back to Beowulf. Who seems to be staring at me as if trying to decipher a riddle.
"What's your aim? Why bring us all here? Spinning sweet promises in our ears, but what is it your really want?" He says as irritation and annoyance gradually filter into his tone. The other members look to me as if wondering the same thing.
I chuckle at his attempt to pressure an answer out of me, already seeing his personality showing. A man not used to having an authority figure above him, always doing what he wants. When I summoned him, he claimed to not have an issue with servitude, but it seems that he is starting to realize that it isn't so nice to be at someone's beck and call.
Taking another sip of wine before placing my cup onto the table, a servant already at my side to refill it.
"You could say I am a man of ambition, what man isn't really. To achieve my ambition I require strength, both in myself and in those around me. I chose all of you specifically for this reason, because all of you have potential." I say nonchalantly as I continue to eat and feed Merlin. My words drawing silence in the room.
"What is your Ambition?" A deep voice sounds, surprisingly the words coming from the usually silent behemoth, Hercules. I give him a slightly dark grin before answering.
"To be at the top…"
Nero with Zeno
Appearing in the forest, my senses are immediately assaulted with the sound of nature. Just like last time Zeno suddenly appears nearby, and just like before the only way I know he is there is due to Absolute Dominion. His magical signature is practically non existent.
"Hmm… You're early." He says looking at me with a speculative eye before he turns and walks as he gestures for me to follow.
"Come." He says simply as I follow, weaving through the trees. Though I do notice his pace is slowly getting faster and faster. Until we are literally sprinting between the trees, Zeno doesn't seem to be tired whatsoever. Neither am I really, this just feels like an average jog. In the beginning chasing after him while dodging trees was a challenge, so much so that I needed to somewhat pause my movements with my other body to focus more with this one.
But soon enough I adapted and grew used to it before I was able to resume what I had been doing with my other. Which thankfully hadn't been much, only sitting down at the dinning table eating. I may have to be more cautious in the future, get more adept in the use of this ability. Better yet master it until it becomes second nature to manipulate two bodies at once.
A smirk graces my face as I divert my attention back to Zeno's, my thoughts returning to the purpose of the quickening pace. Tthis must be some sort of test. Perhaps to gauge my abilities, stamina and agility for this portion I would wager. Surely there will be more than just a simple endurance test.
Noticing the old mans speed pick up even further after around a half hour of running, giving a brief chuckle I follow along. At this point we are traveling so fast the trees are becoming blurs, I'm only barely able to weave through the trees. A few instances where I almost stumbled or struck a tree were too close for my liking. I am mostly thankful for Zeno gradually increasing the pace, allowing me to adapt to the slow change.
My body is also starting to feel the effects, the muscles in my legs feel like there tearing apart. To be honest they probably are, with my superior rate of healing being the only reason I am still able to move as fast as I am. I would have formed a thick sheen of sweat if the wind blasting me in the face didn't remove it just as fast as it formed.
'I wonder how much longer this old man is going to run. I am starting to get irritated…' I thought seeing Zeno looking not even slightly winded.
Nero with the Peerage
"Alright everyone make sure you all are touching each other." I say aloud watching everyone nod before looking down and seeing Merlin attached to my leg. Sebastian had made his appearance as well, I did order him to join us today. With our current numbers including myself it is 8 individuals, a nice even number.
But I wonder if I even be able to transport them all to the dungeon. A nice and easy dungeon would be a better choice. From my experience The Great Forest would be a good choice, from what I have seen there are many nice and easy enemies with the exception of the goblin chiefs. With the goblin camps it would be better for my peerage to find their rhythm with team engagements.
I don't particularly trust The Great Hollow dungeon; it still hasn't been fully explored. And with the enemies I faced there I feel it will be too difficult for the Peerage at the moment.
"ID Create: The Great Forest." I mentally cast as everyone's eyes widen astronomically at the sight of reality breaking like glass. Joan, however, looks noticeably less surprised as she had already experienced it before. Her amused expression aimed at the rest of the peerage, makes a smirk form on my face.
The sound of birds and nature itself begins to permeate through the air, the group collectively turns their heads trying to gain a better grasp of where they are. Sebastian appears to be as calm as ever, unsurprisingly. Achilles and Leonidas looked utterly shocked. Even the behemoth Hercules looks startled. Joan on the other hand looks to just be taking in her surroundings unperturbed.
Judging from the tight hold Merlin has on my leg, it seems she was taken my surprise as well. With a gentle stroke of her head, her tight grip loosens as some she relaxes slightly.
"Ok, now that we are all here it seems it is time to get started with all of your training. This place from my knowledge is called The Great Forest, the enemies residing here are reminiscent of humans. Although they appear small do not underestimate their speed. They also seem to fight in numbers, I trust that each of you know what you specialize in. Take that knowledge and share it with those around you. It will be helpful when fighting together, most of your training from this day forward will not only be sharpening your skills but honing your ability to work together. Are there any questions?" I say in a serious tone watching as they all give their undivided attention, soaking in my words and committing them to memory.
"Yeah, when can we fight? I'm itching for some action." Beowulf sounds with a feral grin, his hands clenching into fists as if prepping himself for a fight.
"Right now, if you want, but I am going to task you with finding them yourselves. Don't worry though, I will shadow you all the whole time just in case you ever need help. But I wouldn't count on it unless it was absolutely necessary." I say making his eyebrow twitch, Joan raises a hand gaining my attention.
"How are we supposed to do that, Lord Aemon? We have never encountered this enemy before…" She asks as I give a smile and a nod. Since its their first time I think its fair to give them a hint.
"Alright, then how about this. One hint to know where to start looking. Smoke…" I say making Joan raise and eyebrow as she contemplates my words before looking to the sky. Seeing that the trees completely obscure the blue sky with only small beams of light peering through.
A pleased expression forms on my face as I watch them group up and converse. Brainstorming ways to potentially use the hint I provided to their advantage. I silently listen before forming a stone throne using Absolute Dominion. Taking a seat and placing Merlin into my lap as she leans back into my chest sleepily. I stroke her head soothingly as I watch them put together some plans.
"Lord Aemon could be referring to the smoke from a campfire…" Joan suggests as the others listen before nodding in agreement.
"But there isn't a way for us to readily search for smokestacks with the excess vegetation blocking out the sky. The trees also look too tall and too difficult too reliably climb." Achilles states with crossed arms and making the others frown.
"I could throw you above the tree line… I am pretty confident in my physical strength…" The silent giant states making the group look too him with questioning stares for a moment before Beowulf scoffs.
"Please… these trees are easily 500 feet tall, sure you're a big guy, but I doubt your strong enough throw one of us high enough to clear the brush. Even if you could what about the way back down, each one of us would splatter on impact." Beowulf says in an incredulous tone making Hercules stroke his chin in thought.
"We should look around for any higher ground that would give us a vantage point." Leonidas speaks out making the others nod in agreement.
"No time like the present." Beowulf says walking forward in search for higher ground. The others shake their heads before following behind. I meanwhile simply levitate my throne and follow, careful not to make any jolting movements to wake the soundly sleeping Merlin.
'I wonder what I should do while I wait. Well, I still haven't read The Book of Lucifer yet. I may as well complete the quest while I am at it to find out my origins.' Think reaching into my inventory and pulling out the ominous book, opening it I am momentarily surprised at how neat and organized the writing was.
Reading through the first few pages, I expectantly find detailed information of how Lucifer and Lilith gave birth to the original devils. Though what I wasn't expecting was that they weren't birthed in the traditional manner. It seems that Lilith was the one that created them artificially with her powers, though to create the first generation devils with as much power as they had she needed to borrow demonic energy from Lucifer.
It seems you could say that the existence of were only able to exist through the powers Lilith had. She only needed the coaxing Lucifer gave her to accomplish such a thing. Though I can only imagine what would have happened to history if Lucifer hadn't had her create the Devils. The power it must have taken to create such a powerful new species as strong as devils is nothing short of incredible. I wonder if there are anymore passages that go into detail about her powers…
'Let's see…' I think to myself as I flip through the pages until I come across a section of the book, labeled profiles. Inside I see various entities listing characteristics, weaknesses strengths you name it, and it was probably there. I notice that even the handwriting is different as well, it seems to have changed after explaining the events of the origin of the first generation devils. This must be where Hades started to log information in the book himself.
I raise an eyebrow at just how detailed the entries are regarding the profiles. The pictures are hand drawn with frightening precision, almost as if it was a photograph. It seems hades is a bit of an artist. Flipping through the pages I see that Hades had even created profiles of those in the Greek Pantheon. Couldn't blame him really, skipping through the profiles until I find the one, I am looking for.
'Ah here it is…' I think stopping on the page, my eyes widening at how beautiful the woman is. God really didn't spare any expenses in creating her, did he? She has hair as black as night, an earie red color for eyes not unlike my own. She also seems to be the epitome of sexual appeal; it is no wonder Lucifer took an interest in her. Though I doubt it was purely out of vanity and more for his own twisted schemes, manipulation is his thing after all.
Moving on to her powers I read with undivided attention.
Subject has displayed the abilities of something akin to creation, even as far as creating blank souls, exactly as if it was a newborn. Through many trials I have concluded that the extent of her creative abilities can only create living organisms. Inanimate objects seem to be an impossibility, why this limit is in place I cannot be sure. Subject has also shown the ability to manipulate those she creates, though with greater difficulty should the organism be exceptionally strong or particularly strong willed.
I stroke my chin in thought as I read the last of the paragraph, her abilities are what I would have expected. Considering that she created the first generation of devils it would only make sense she has powers over creation. It was an interesting bit that she had control over them as well. I wonder if she has control over all Devils just by extension.
A frightening prospect really.
I sigh as I skip to the end of the profiles, I will look through those at a later date. I am more interested at what kind of experiments Hades conducted, considering that the portion I had already gone through in the book only amounted to nearly a quarter of its contents. Flipping through the pages it seems he conducted a countless amount as nearly the entirety of the remaining book is just dated entries and notes of different projects conducted.
Many seem to be genetic experimentation, crossbreeding with numerous different species. Most ended up as failures with the insemination not taking, to which he would then alter an already living subject with a new introduced genetic concoction. With only few successes, most baring genetic defects as well as baring unfavorable mutations. It seems he was mostly doing this to create an army for himself, a new race that would follow him without challenge.
But it doesn't seem like he makes any headway with this until he gets his hands on Lilith. Judging from his entries, he succeeded in creating an army of Devils. Much too his distaste, with his apparent dislike of the species. But he really wasn't left any other choice, so he deals with it. And out of paranoia he imprisoned and heavily chained Lilith in the deepest, darkest pit of the underworld. For he feared that she would potentially take control of his army and free herself.
Turning the pages, I stop when I see something particularly interesting.
April 12th Year 1408- A devil of the name Adrias Aemon, visited me today requesting assistance. More specifically to help him and his wife conceive a child, upon asking why he would even think of coming to me he stated that he had heard of my exploits in the fields of medical research. How he even heard the term medical research associated with my name is laughable, but I listened to his request out of intrigue. Apparently, Adrias had been deemed infertile. Due to the issue originating from himself and not his wife he couldn't simply find another woman to conceive his child. With the growing pressure to produce a child and heir from his faction. He ultimately found himself at my doorstep, I had entertained the idea in my mind for roughly three seconds before ultimately deciding to send him away. But I stopped myself from doing so, simply on the fact that this was an opportunity. This is something I hadn't thought of before either… I will update again shortly.
I am not sure how I feel about finding my father was sterile, in fact I don't really know what this could possibly mean for my existence either. My eyebrows furrow at the thought before I continue to the next entry.
April 17th Year 1408- After accepting the Devils request while receiving a rather sizable payment. Though that specific bit I am uninterested in, the opportunity to further my research however is payment in itself. I had originally devised a plan to have Lilith create a child for the pathetic Devil, but then I asked myself. "Why not just have her conceive a child herself." After a thorough questioning of Lilith, I had found she actually had never naturally birthed a child herself. The supposed son between her and Lucifer, was created with her powers. This was a challenge I decided to take upon myself, perhaps she could birth a child that would inherit her powers. I would even take it for myself and groom it to adulthood to serve me. Make sure to remove any semblance of the defiant personality that may be inherited from Lilith. I will begin trials immediately.
June 04th Year 1408- I have been at it for over a month now, different concoctions of favorable genetic material from many strong humanoid species, though I did include the Devil Adrias' DNA, but it was mostly out of necessity than anything else. Lilith has been artificially inseminated 36 times, much to my displeasure each one has failed to impregnate her… Each attempt has been with a newer concoction stronger and more fertile than the last. Of the last batch I can be certain that it would impregnate any healthy female on the planet. So, this only brings me to the conclusion that Lilith herself has such an incredibly low fertility that none of the attempts succeeded. It is no wonder she created her son; Lucifer was no doubt growing furious at her lack of conception. But nevertheless, I will attempt one more time, I have a feeling it will work. I am almost certain.
June 05th Year 1408- I am pleased to see that attempt number 37 was a success. I was a shaky one but, successful nonetheless, with as much glee as I have in the great news. I don't expect the fetus to survive to full term, but I can only wait and see at this point. When I had given Lilith the joyous news, the shock that had struck her was something akin to a lightning bolt. Quite hilarious really, it seems she had never any expectations for pregnancy in the first place. I will continue to monitor the progress…
My eyes unconsciously widen as I read the entries, the first were rather telling. But as I read on it became indisputable that the 37th success was me, it seems I am the son of Lilith. What I will do with this knowledge I am unsure; it may speed up my race to power. With my direct relation to Lilith practically making me royalty among the devils, if this knowledge ever comes to light it will bring the Satan's under extreme tension.
I will threaten the balance of political power…
"It would be better to get confirmation…" I though to myself as I continue to the next entry, one almost exactly nine months later. As well as the last entry in the book, this must have been just before my father had stolen the book.
February 12 Year 1409- Surprisingly, the entity growing within Lilith's womb survived to full term. After an admittingly hard birth, Lilith gave birth to a Boy. I was also pleasantly surprised that there were no odd defects associated with the countless number of sampled material from strong humanoids. Though there is one problem, the child is horribly ill, almost to the point I don't expect it to survive more than a few days. Lilith had displayed clear obsessive behavior over the whelp. Though it does make sense considering it is her first blood child, the love she displayed for the thing was surprising to say the least. I almost felt a bit of fear when I saw the look in her eye when I took him from her. Makes me chuckle just thinking about it… As I move forward, I have no desire to further experiment with her, I find it annoyingly difficult to even get her successfully pregnant. Not to mention the health of the children she bares, until I find something better to do with her, I'll just keep her contained.
I close the book and throw it in my inventory before rubbing the bridge of my nose in thought. A ping like sound enters my ears, looking to the newly appeared window I release a sigh.

The surge of power coursing through my body stuns me, a burning sensation radiates through my skin as my muscles ripple and twist. This lasts a moment while I concentrate on my self control to avoid bringing attention to my sudden change. As it passes, I relax and take a breath before reading the new windows. The new perk seems to just make my presence more pronounced than it was before. The new skill that is apparently inherited, Life Manipulation seems pretty incredible. Especially if Lilith's use of the ability was any indication, but I would wager to guess that leveling such a skill would be incredibly difficult.
If my origins were an amalgamation of different genetic material, I am surprised I came out the way I did. It seems that most of my characteristics came from Lilith, as her must have been more dominant in the gene pool. Gaining the Decay ability as well was nothing short of a miracle. Perhaps the meshing of two Devils genetics won out over everything else, can't really be too sure.

I swipe the window away to think about for another time, diverting my attention back the peerage. In my loss of focus, the group had found a large mountain before scaling it and using it as a vantage point.
"There. See the smoke?" Joan says pointing to a rising smoke cloud in the distance.
"Yeah, there is many actually. 3 to the west 2 to the north and 1 to the south." Leonidas states turning as he gestures to the others.
"We should start with the closest one, conduct reconnaissance and make a plan of attack." Achilles states as Beowulf yawns obnoxiously.
"Agreed." Joan says nodding along with others, before they set out in the direction of the nearest camp.
Nero with Zeno
Narrowly dodging a tree as the edge clips my shoulder, gritting my teeth as a protruding broken branch slices into my arm. The wound however heals quickly as I just barely dodge another tree, the blurred form of Zeno quickly leaving my sight as I struggle to keep up. I can already feel that my body has hit its limits in speed, if the searing pain in my muscles were any indication.
Barely a second later my legs buckle underneath me as I tumble crashing into a few trees in the process before sliding to a stop in a clearing. With a groan I bring myself to unsteady feet. My eyes widening as I feel Zeno launch himself at my back with frightening speed. Twisting my body dodging a speared hand aimed directly for my heart.
Forming a spear with my own as I launch counterattack, focusing on hitting the old man's diaphragm with a powerful strike. Zeno's eyebrows raise in surprise at my sudden retaliation. My outstretched arm gets swiped out of the way, however, use the sudden increase of momentum to spin and unleash a devastating elbow to his head. Even with all of my speed and strength, Zeno catches the back of my arm in his palm stopping my movements effortlessly.
"Oh? Not bad kid… But what about this?" The old man said with mirth clear in his voice, if you listened close enough you could hear he was impressed.
In almost an instant three powerful strikes I couldn't register hit my chest, my ribs cave in under the force taking my breath away. Before I even feel the pain, another strike hits my temple slinging my head to the side. As my conscious darkens and white dots filter through my vision. I somehow find enough control to plant my feet on the ground to prevent myself from falling.
Steadying myself before shaking my head, in an attempt to restore my vision. I stand dropping myself in a defensive stance as I barely make out Zeno phasing out of existence. Activating clairvoyance and ramping up my senses to pinpoint the old man's location. With steady breaths I shove the pain in my chest and head to the recesses of my conscious.
A flash passes through my mind before I once again sense the man enter my senses, however this time I am more than ready. Just as silent as before the old man launches a flurry of spear hands before I block and counter. A furious exchange follows for what feels like an eternity but is only seconds.
Slowly but surely as our exchange climbs in speed and power until my limit is reached, though I can only be so lucky when I notice Zeno getting faster and stronger. No longer am I blocking and throwing in a counterattack, but I am barely blocking as Zeno keeps picking up his speed. Most now hitting me until I am unable to block anymore, I still see it happening with clairvoyance. But at this point its like watching something you know is going to happen, but you can't do anything to stop it.
I harden my mind as I activate Primal Rage, feeling the sudden rush of power filter through my body. Though the bubbling rage quickly radiates in my mind, the only thing stopping me from losing control is the metaphorical indestructible walls I placed in my mind. Functioning for the sole purpose of stopping my emotions from tainting my judgement.
Gritting my teeth as I power through the flurry of unpredictable attacks and even the playing field once again. Zeno's eyes noticeably widen when he sees me begin to overpower him just for a moment. At this his face takes on a dark expression of glee as he ramps up his own power and speed once again.
With my absolute limit already being exceeded I can no longer stay on the offensive, I shift all of my focus on pure defense. The result of such a decision is futile as Zeno unleashes an extreme punch, one I am unable to dodge. The only thing I can do is block, bringing up both arms in a cross. The mans fist collides with my arms instantly shattering my forearms, blinding pain radiates through my mind as I am forced backwards.
The only thing that even makes me register I am even moving is the fact that I can feel the trunks of trees colliding with my back and shattering upon impact. Finally stopping to a skidding halt on my stomach, my breath leaving me as I struggle to breath.
"Hoho… I may have gone a little overboard there. You alright kid?" Zeno says with a chuckle as he looks down at me. I regain my ability to breath as I suck in as much air I can manage before releasing a groan. The bones in my arms snapping back into place as I roll over onto my back.
"If that was my firsthand experience at fighting someone presumably Satan strength, I don't want to experience it again." I think as I take a moment to just sit still and heal my body of its numerous injuries.
"I will be fine, just give me a minute…" I let out with a grimace before bringing myself to my feet, a frown forming on my face as I see the ruined state of my suit.
"It's good that you heal quickly, now that I have assessed your abilities. Let's get your training started." He says clasping his arms behind his back before he walks off.

Taking a moment to let my body adjust to the sudden addition to my stats, my skin tingles and itches almost unbearably. Letting it pass as I exhale and follow behind Zeno.
Nero with the Peerage
Absentmindedly watching the group as they stair at the campsite in bewilderment. My fist underneath my chin as I lean on the arm of my throne, Merlin who is now awake, watches curiously. A look of indifference on my face as I start to get bored.
They had been plotting how to attack this campsite for a while now and I am starting to get annoyed. They are too cautious for their own good, while I am impressed, they are taking account for everything. Especially when they expect to face an unknown enemy. I myself depending on the occasion will either assess look for a possible weak point or method of distraction, then attack accordingly. Or I will just walk up and face it head on, if I feel confident enough the enemy, I am facing won't be much of an issue.
The goblins are a threat in large numbers but by themselves they are pitifully weak. But I understand their caution, I did thrust them in a situation where they face the unknown without weapons. Though I don't think they will face much of a challenge here, seem to work well enough together. The only concern I have really is Beowulf, he is showing signs of being insubordinate.
Something I will need to keep in check, last thing I need is a servant that challenges me at every turn. Ill have to take care of it…
My thoughts are broken as I notice my peerage begin their operation, as they all systematically take their positions and launch their assault on the camp. Seeing them start I get the urge to play around with my new inherited skill.
Reaching into my mind and grasping onto the new portion, feeling as if doors I didn't even know where there had just opened. A warmth radiating through my body, an exact mirror to the feeling I get when channeling Decay. However, the chill from Decay and now the warmth from the Breath of Life both still fill me with a sense of ease and comfort.
Focusing on the sensation I open my eyes, the sudden influx of information from all of the various living things around me. I notice a small sapling beside me before lifting my hand out channeling some of the energy into it. The sapling begins to sprout new leaves as its branches grow and flourish, though I find my concentration failing. Immediately the sapling contorts and twists, tendrils peel out of its bark as it latches onto a tree. The section it connects with starts to darken and die quickly.
I stop channeling my power over life as I look at the twisted and deformed sapling, with sick fascination. It looks like its leeching off of the nearby tree, so this must be what the description was referring to. If I lose concentration it can go horribly wrong, but if I sense the life in the plant, I can instinctually tell it isn't a threat.
Perhaps infusing it with my energy it is now somewhat subservient to me? I may have to test this on an animal that isn't a plant. If I created a seemingly deadly plant from just losing concentration, I wonder what I could do if I actively tried to make something dangerous. Though it did feel incredibly difficult just to make it grow, it seems I was somewhat correct inferring when thinking it was going to be hard to train. Looking at the progress bar for the skill, it just doing that barely went up a few percent. But I feel it will be worth leveling, it is interesting knowing that I now have powers over life and death.
Well close to it really… I wonder if I could potentially resurrect someone. I will need to do some serious trials. I have a feeling that I am only at the tip of the iceberg with what I can accomplish using the Breath of Life. A shuffle in my lap breaks me from my thoughts. Looking down at Merlin I see her looking at the plant I just experimented with what looks like… Fascination? I chuckle as she stares intently.
"Are you interested in that plant?" I ask as her golden orbs shift to me questioningly. I take a moment to reform the question in my head to make it simpler for her to understand.
"Do you like it?" I ask, however this time she nods before looking back at it, or from what I can tell is the interesting flowers that formed on its branches. A detail I hadn't noticed before, maybe it took a moment to bloom.
Looking at the new addition to the sapling, I see that its color holds an entrancing deep red. Reminiscent of a spider lily if I were to use an example. I smile before using absolute domain and invisible blade to snip a flower and levitate it into my hand.
Grasping the stem, I give it a speculative eye, making sure there isn't anything dangerous before I hand it to the wide eyed girl. Her tiny hands hold the flower delicately, as if she would break it like glass. She subconsciously snuggles back into my torso as she stares intently at the flower in her hands.
Leaning back with a sigh as I look on at the camp, a large combustion of flame incinerating at least a dozen goblins. The work of Joan making itself known it seems, I watch with a pleasant smile as she follows up with ruthless attacks. A sadistic look in her eyes as she impales a horrified goblin.
The others also seem to be adapting nicely, though as veteran warriors they don't seem to be displaying any other abilities than superior combative skills. I will have to get with each one and see if they have a sacred gear or maybe magical capabilities.
I form a small smirk as I watch the chief makes his appearance this one just as gigantic in stature as the one, I faced before. Though this one carries a large, jagged battleax, poor in metallic quality but still just as devastating in its hands if the monster is given a chance. It muscled body is scarred heavily, several tattoos also line its arms and torso, nothing particularly interesting but mostly tribal in design.
I wonder how well I can line up to it now, my first encounter didn't really establish a baseline. I pretty much instantly killed it without really gauging what its capable of. Though judging by its stats I don't think they could do all that much, sure they are strong but not that strong.
The peerage should do just fine I think, all their stats almost match that of the chief so it shouldn't be a problem. Ill just leave it to them, to figure it out if they get in a bind. Now what should I do? Maybe sort out my inventory, I have quite a bit of shit in there I probably wont use. With this in mind I could sell some and make a few credits, I still have a few perks I wouldn't mind getting.
All of them exceedingly expensive of course.
I stroke my chin as I scan through the plethora of monster materials sitting in my inventory. At this point in time, I don't really know what I could do with them, actually that may change when I take on my new crafting class. So, I won't touch the materials for now.
The Hollowed King set I wont even touch, that will collect dust until I need it. I pause scrolling when I come across the Hollowed Soul, I had decided not to use it last time. But now I am reconsidering, it shouldn't be dangerous If I need to use it to unlock a new class.
I mentally shrug my shoulders before pulling out the soul. Immediately recognizing the Ember, I had seen before, its subtle warmth radiating into my palm. Merlin too distracted by her flower to notice. I absentmindedly wonder how such a little thing can provide a large potential for power.
[Consume the Hollowed Soul Y/N?]
Clicking yes, I watch as the ember seep into my skin the warmth I felt before turning to a chilling cold. The feeling moves from my hand down into my arm before stopping in the center of my chest. The chill only getting colder as I fight to keep calm, but the chill is quickly turning to freezing and that is quickly breeching below freezing. I think it wont end as the temperature keeps dropping as my breath is taken away, I rejoice after several moments when it plateaus.
My soul however feeling like a frigid tundra, but at least it isn't getting any worse. In fact, I feel myself getting a little used to it, but uncomfortable all the same. Almost like an unbearable brain freeze only focused in the center of my chest. Taking several seconds to relax and push away the discomfort to the recesses of my mind, where everything else I would rather not deal with resides.
I have a feeling that everything I am and will continue to bottle up for the foreseeable future, will eventually turn into something catastrophic. But what can you do? I got shit to do and I can't be held down by things that would impair my decision making skills.
Closing my eyes as I take a deep breath before releasing it, all discomfort gone like it was never there in the first place. This is a skill I have taken from my past life, that I know for sure. The ever so useful ability to perfectly compartmentalize emotions, and the things I feel at any given time. I have been doing this consistently since the start of my new life, and even now it still proves to be handy. Opening my eyes once again when I hear a familiar ping.
[Hollowed Soul successfully consumed!]
Perk Gained: Hollowed Soul – You now no longer have a soul like most do, it is now empty, yearning to be filled. All enemies slain by your hand will relinquish their souls unto you, to be devoured and consumed. A fraction of their power will be added to yours, though no matter how many souls you devour it will never fill the hole in yours.
Maybe it wasn't such a great idea after all…
Well I am confident I can resist the yearning it talks about, even if I can't the power, I can obtain through killing others alone could be astronomical. The very prospect of the thought fills me with excitement.
"Alright what's next…" I mentally say as I scroll back through my inventory.
I stop once again as I come across the Time Stone, my mind filling with potential uses. But I mostly just don't need it really, yes, it is an incredibly powerful item. But it would be much better if I just sell it, get the astronomical number of credits then buy more perks and items that would better help me.
Steeling my choice, I mentally open the store before selecting add listing and putting up the Time Stone. I couldn't really set a price, so I made it negotiable. So, then the person interested could just throw a number at me. At that point I could gauge it from there, if I feel its reasonable why not take it? A new window appears asking to confirm if I wanted to list the Time Stone, taking only a second to consider before I accept it.
"Now I guess I just wait then?" I think with a sigh, now onward with the rest of my inventory.
Scrolling…
Scrolling…
Scrolling…
"Hmm…"
I do have 20 Gacha tokens, might as well use a few while I am at it, 5 maybe? Selecting the tokens and using five, I watch as the wheels spin before stopping with a new screen popping up over the other.
Left Hand of Vecna – A decayed and mummified hand once belonging to a powerful Lich of the name Vecna. For this item to be used the user must remove their own hand and attach Vecna's. It will grant the user immunity to poisons disease, a regenerative factor and boosts the magical efficiency and power of spells.
Zeus's Armor – The armor belonging to the Greek God Zeus, as expected it takes on a Greek warrior look. It boosts the efficiency and power of Electrical and Air skills.
Leather Helmet – A normal quality helmet made of leather, not the greatest of protection, but it works.
Katana – A finely crafted Japanese sword forged from high quality Tamahagane, Its edge as strong as it is sharp.
Ring of Power – A Golden ring with no apparent redeeming qualities, however you can feel the thrum of power radiating from it. Grants 25 stat points to every stat.
Firstly, I slide the ring around my finger, the warmth passing through me before it passes. The desiccated hand I am really unsure what to do with, I would rather not remove my own hand to use it either. I could probably experiment with it on some unlucky human. Zeus's armor could be useful when I start to train my electricity and air manipulation skills. The others I just stash in my inventory for later use, as I don't have much use for them at the moment.
I take a breath as I contemplate whether or not I should use another five, before ultimately selecting another batch. Clicking confirm I watch as the slot rotates once more.
William James Sidis' Brain in a Jar – A perfectly preserved brain belonging to what is known as the most intelligent and brilliant man. This child prodigy and exceptional mathematician was said to be a master at multiple languages and dialects as well as a gifted author.
The Tooth of a Basilisk – A incredibly sharp tooth belonging to the mythological Basilisk. A trace of poison can be seen still dripping from the point.
Trident of Neptune – A magical weapon that grants the user great power and the divine right to rule the sea. It was said to be forged by the cyclops's out of adamantine and Neptune's own essence. It can manipulate and conjure water, as well as disperse energy in the form of bolts and force fields.
Fume Ultra Great Sword – This twisted sword, the heaviest of all ultra great swords, resembles black slate. This weapon is said to belong to a traitor from long ago, and that it was so heavy that it found no owner and became a forgotten relic of history.
Zeus' Lightning Bolt – The signature weapon and symbol of power for the Olympian god of thunder. It is said to be the most powerful and feared weapon on earth and the heavens. Boost's efficiency and power of Electricity based skills.
Well, it looks like I got a set to match, Zeus' Lightning bolt and his armor. Once again Lady luck continues to suck my dick… Well not that I can complain of course, by all means keep them coming. Who could be considered lady luck? Tyche? I will have to find out and thank her in person if possible.
I think that is enough of the Gacha for today, I even filled my inventory back up. "Sigh…" Well, no matter, I suddenly feel the urge to test out the capabilities of the hollowed soul. Not only that but I need to blow off some steam, I've been sitting in a stone chair all day I think it would be good to unwind.
Picking up Merlin and standing before placing her back down onto the throne. Her golden eyes looking at me questioningly, I give her a small smile as I straighten my suit.
"I will be back in a bit stay there, alright?" I say as she nods in acknowledgement before I stroke the top of her head.
"Good girl." I praise before turning to the sight of the now ruined goblin camp.
The Peerage walking around killing any remaining goblins, as my eyes float to the dead chief. Beowulf standing beside it holding its large battleax with a feral grin. It seems he has taken a trophy of his latest conquest. Walking up to the group with a pleasant smile while I inspect their handiwork. The group notices my presence before approaching me.
"Well done, now does everyone feel they understand each other's abilities? As well as how you all can work together efficiently?" I ask getting nods from each of them, making my smile stretch a bit wider.
"That's good, now I am going to send you all back to the castle. I trust you will not share what you have seen today with anyone outside of this circle, right?" I say making them sound off in agreement while I hover the throne Merlin is sitting on, over to us. Her expression just as blank as always but judging by the way she is kicking her hanging legs back and forth I can say she is having a good time.
"Alright, Joan if you could please hold Merlin while I teleport you all back." I request of the saint, a dear in the headlight's expression forms on her face from my words.
"O-Of course Lord Aemon." She stutters out as she moves and takes the small girl in her arms.
"Sebastian I would also appreciate if you can start with her education, mostly focus on teaching her to speak, read and write." I say making the butler bow in acknowledgement.
"Alright, everyone join hands please." I announce as everyone does as asked.
"ID Destroy." I cast making reality as usual shatters replacement the forest with my dining hall. I take a few moments to dismiss everyone before entering The Great Forest once again.
I take in a breath of fresh air before I will my wings to erupt out of my back and darting to the skies above with exceptional speed. The vastness of the Forest entering my vision, dozens of camps entering my view. But I disregard them as I search for other things to fight, I am uninterested in fighting weak enemies like the Goblins.
I look around taking in the geography, the forest looks to be relatively flat, but I can see various mountains off in the distance. Setting my sights on the large protrusions of land, I take off flying with incredible speed in that direction. Relishing the feeling of the wind hitting my face as I look down at the blur of trees below me.
Maybe if I treat this dungeon how I had treated the Hollow dungeon, perhaps the further I go the more dangerous the monsters. Or at least different from the goblins. Well, I guess we won't know until it is a tested theory. Though I do feel this will take a while if the other dungeon was any indication.
Nero with Zeno
"I may be rethinking my decision regarding the acceptance of a mentor…" I think as I struggle to move, after being outfitted with a fresh set of clothes curtesy of Zeno. Only these clothes aren't any regular clothes, no these are magically enchanted with gravity seals in the threads.
It isn't just the shirt either, it is every single piece of clothing. Shoes, socks, pants, underwear, undershirt, and finally the tunic over it. Judging by the creaking I feel in my bones, the tearing of my muscles and ligaments. The weight is substantial.
It also doesn't make it any better that Zeno is beating the shit out of me while I am mostly unable to react in time specifically due to the burden. This all under the guise of strength, endurance and agility training. But I really am starting to think the whole disciple thing is just an excuse for Zeno to get a sturdy punching bag.
Ghak*!
"Hoho… Don't get distracted now… Don't want you to die too, early do we?" The old man sounds with a dark chuckle as I am flown several feet before landing in the dirt. Blood pulling from my mouth as my healing factor works to relocate my jaw.
"Fuck… This sucks." I think with a shake of my head as I groan getting to shaky feet, already getting struck by a bone crushing hit once again.
A/N: So, I decided to not have anymore useless items from the Gacha, for example the brain in a jar. Before it was just that… A brain in a Jar. But I thought it would be more interesting if it belonged to someone brilliant as well as what he could possibly do with it. The tooth as well was just a tooth before I decided to make it a Basilisk tooth.
