AU! Starts from the Deep 1x02 The Dark Orca - you guys know it, so I didn't write out the whole thing.

Will slams his fists on the desk in frustration. "Still no match!"

"Well what're you trying to match? Ant asks, going over to him where the symbols are projected up on the holographic screen.

"This looks like an ancient map, but it doesn't match any modern topographies," Will explains to his son.

"What do those symbols mean?" Ant asks, pointing out a few of the marks.

Will studies them."I'm not sure. Location, maybe? But they're in a lost language, no one alive can read them today."

"I know one person who might be able to," Kaiko says, giving Will a significant look.

"Dolos."

"Mysterious keeper of information Dolos?"Ant asks, nodding excitedly.

"Yes," Will confirms, slightly amused.

"I finally get to see the Floating Black Market!"

Fontaine rolls her eyes at him.

The sky's darkened to a purple-black when they finally decide to head out. Fontaine steers them in the direction of the Black Market.

"So this is a swap," Ant says, yelling over the sound of the water. "I get your turn driving the jet boat next time, right?"

Fontaine turns to him, annoyed. "No, this counts as your turn! It's not my fault you can't drive and wear that fish pack,"she says, glancing at it.

Ant scowls and taps into his comm. "Backpack development log. Remember to adapt so I can drive the jet boat."

Fontaine pulls her deep indigo comm up to her face in response. "Fontaine's development log- make fun of Ant for having a backpack development log."

"Now remember you two, we need to keep a low profile," Kaiko reminds them. "This floating market is-"

"Full of thieves and pirates, trust no one," Ant and Fontaine chorus.

"Can we trust this Dolos person?" Fontaine asks, glancing back at her parents.

"No," Will and Kaiko reply in unison.

"I've only scanned the symbols for Dolos to translate. I don't want Dolos getting any hint that the scroll exists."

They continue the last couple minutes in silence, excitement and apprehension building up. They quietly dock at one of the jetties and climb up to the wooden platform. Will secures the jet boat on one of the bollards, and Ant and Fontaine look around, Ant excitedly, Fontaine cautiously. There's not much to see, really. The place is kind of dark. Scratch that, it's really dark. There's a lantern a few feet up, but the light from it's weak.

Finally done securing the jet boat, Will takes the lead down towards Dolos' houseboat. Walking down the dark pier, Fontaine looks down past the rickety old planks to the green-black sea below. She shudders. Falling through would not be fun.

As they walk down to Dolos' boat, they can hear quiet movement. There's a sense of activity, but they can't see anything happening. And it's eerily quiet. Only the sound of someone calling out items for sale interrupts the soft swishing of the sea below the pier and the creaking of wood as they walk over the rickety planks. The shouting gets louder as they walk further, and as they approach they can make out the words of a decidedly male voice.

"Dutch treasure, only discovered a few days ago! Absolutely priceless artefacts- for a price."

Eventually they reach the source, and she's surprised to see a boy around her age. He's clearly a pirate by the looks of his tank and earring, and the calculating way he looks at them as they pass - waiting to see if there's any interest.

Her mother's words come back to her. Don't make eye contact. Don't show interest. Don't engage.

She follows her parent's lead as they just barely look at him. She only glances up for a second as she passes - or at least she had aimed to. He meets her gaze.

And the world shifts.

Finn hurries from the Dark Orca, cursing under his breath as he slips on he second time on some ill-placed, browny seaweed. He huffs out a breath as he finally reaches the random place Hammerhead had chosen, trying to avoid brushing against the almost black moss between the planks as he places the crate down. He leans against the post as the others set up the area. He didn't really have to help, so he wouldn't - after all, he'd be doing all the work for the next few hours.

He kind of wishes he wasn't so good at this job - it wasn't his favourite. Recon might've been better for him than anyone else, because he looked the least threatening, but it was still embarrassing. And combining recon and selling was a good idea in essence, but it's not like it really worked. Most people suspected a trap. Deals weren't done by yelling out what valuable items you have. They were done in the dark, money changing hands in the shadows.

Danny Boy nods to him as he positions himself behind the crate, snapping him out of his musings. Finn would be Danny Boy's eyes to identify anything worth inspecting. His father was expecting something tonight- something about Nektons. Whoever they were.

He glances up. The blue sky's fading quickly into navy darkness, and he had to be in position before anyone came. The night is when the Floating Black Market really came alive, and he had to establish what he was doing quickly so nobody else would try to get involved. And Danny Boy wasn't exactly great backup.

Hammerhead walks over, inspecting the arrangement. He nods approvingly. "Alrighty then Finn. Ya know what ter do."

Finn sighs and nods. "I'll be over there jus' in case," he continues, pointing to the left in a corner shrouded by shadows which would only get longer and thicker as the night wore on. Finn nods and Hammerhead slaps him on the back, then leaves with the rest of the crew. Finn winces as her rolls his shoulder. Sometimes his father really didn't know his own strength.

Just before he disappears around the corner, Hammerhead turns to his son. "Start!" he hisses before he steps into the shadows.

Finn sighs again, then starts calling out.

"Treasure! Ancient pieces of eight! Priceless artefacts! Get your guilders here!"

Half an hour later, and he feels so stupid just standing there, yelling to nobody. Everybody's avoiding his part of the market, and he's struggling to keep the boredom out of his voice. The sky had darkened pretty quickly into a deep blue-black, and he wonders if it'll be light again by the time something actually happens. And then finally, finally, people start approaching.

He studies them as they come closer, going for a seller trying to make money as he looks straight at them. It's a group of four, two adults and two kids, and instantly he knows, this is them.

The Nektons.

Obviously. Nobody has kids really, and if they do, the definitely don't let them on the Floating Black Market. Which is why Madeline was still on the Dark Orca, huffing and grumbling and probably being destructive.

Pair that with the fact that they're wearing life jackets and that the boy's carrying some high tech water jacket in plain sight and...yeah. They definitely didn't belong here.

They all give him a glance as they pass and he looks straight back at them.

But as he meets the girl's gaze-

the world changes.

A new colour bursts into being.

The sky isn't black and purple, its's a deep, new colour.

The ocean isn't shades of green and black, it's a multitude of shades of a new colour.

And her comm's not a dark indigo, it's a strong, new colour.

She realises what colour it is as she stares at him, wide-eyed, his eyes the same colour as the colour she'd never seen before.

Blue.

A new colour bursts into being.

Seaweed isn't brown-blue, it's a vibrant, new colour.

The moss on the planks beneath their feet isn't black, it's a dark, new colour.

The ocean isn't just shades of blue, it's a multitude of shades of a new colour, layered and intertwined over blue.

As he stares at her, her eyes the same new colour he's seeing, he realises what colour it is.

Green.

"Fontaine?" Kaiko asks, noticing her daughter's fallen behind. Not just fallen behind, she thinks in annoyance as she turns around at Fontaine's lack of response. They'd told them to stay close. Turning, she catches sight of her daughter staring at the pirate who'd been trying to sell his wares. And he was staring right back at her, both of them looking at each other with childlike wonder.

"Fontaine?" She asks again, coming closer cautiously. Fontaine's gaze snaps to her.

"Mom," she whispers, her green eyes wide. "Your eyes are blue."

"What?" Kaiko stumbles back a step, Will coming up behind her for support. He stares at his daughter too, and Ant's gaze flicks between his sister and parents.

For as long as Kaiko could remember, Fontaine couldn't identify blue, despite living in the ocean.

Everything for her was green or purple instead.

But now Fontaine could see it. And when Kaiko looked a little closer at the pirate boy...

His eyes were blue.

Her daughter had found her soulmate.

"You...you can see blue?" Will asks carefully, staring at his daughter. He could relate to her- he hadn't been able to see blue either until he met Kaiko.

"Yeah," she says, a wide smile breaking out over her face. She turns back to the pirate. "Can you see...green?"

He nods, starting to smile as well. "Yeah. I couldn't see it before." He looks intently into her eyes, and she holds his gaze, looking at the bright blue in his. "It's...really pretty," he says quietly.

She nods, not breaking eye contact. "Yeah, it is," she agrees. "So...what's your name?"

"Finn Hammerhead, at your service," he says, sweeping a dramatic half bow and breaking the trance they'd fallen in. Fontaine looks a little surprised at his sudden demeanour change.

Kaiko and Will exchange an alarmed glance at the name, but Fontaine doesn't pay it any attention.

She rolls her eyes at him, back to normal. "Fontaine Nekton," she reciprocates, holding her hand out for him to shake. "Pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise," he grins, taking her hand.

"FINN!" A loud voice calls from somewhere. Will, Kaiko and Ant all move instinctively closer to Fontaine. Finn lets go of her and winces.

"Yeah, I'm here!" He yells back. A burly, muscled man appears, stalking closer to them.

"What're ya doin'?" he asks Finn incredulously as he comes closer, keeping an eye on the Nektons. His glares at them suspiciously, and Kaiko and Will narrow their eyes at him in response.

"Captain Hammerhead," Will acknowledges coldly.

"Well if it ain't the Nekton's," Hammerhead growls. "Tell me, what're people like you doin' here? We don't take kindly ta intruders like you skulkin' around these parts."

"We have-" Will starts, but Finn interrupts.

"Dad, I found my soulmate." Fontaine and Ant stare at him, then look up to Hammerhead, registering what Finn had called him.

"Really?" Hammerhead asks, gruffness disappearing into eagerness. "Who is it?"

Finn gestures to Fontaine. They both lock gazes for a few seconds again, each of them looking at the colour they hadn't been able to see before.

"What?" Hammerhead's startled squawk breaks them out of their reverie, and they both look around to see everyone else watching them as well, a few of Hammerhead's crew having come up behind him. "Yer soulmates with the...the Nekton girl?!"

"A pirate?" Ant looks at his sister incredulously, speaking for the first time since she'd started seeing blue. "Your soulmate's a pirate?"

"I...I guess so," Fontaine says, taking in his appearance. Finn crosses his arms defiantly. "Not like it's a bad thing!" she says hurriedly.

Ant snorts derisively. "Uh, yeah it is," he says condescendingly. "You can't trust pirates, remember?"

"Well..." Fontaine starts trailing off as she gives Finn a considering glance. He raises his eyebrows at her. "I guess we can just...work it out?"

Finn sighs and drops his hands. "Yeah, I guess so. Your brother's right, though. We are pirates, so you shouldn't really trust us."

"But you won't always be a pirate, right?" Fontaine asks.

Finn opens his mouth to respond, but Hammerhead interrupts first. "Of course 'e will. It's part of his proud pirate heritage," he says indignantly, putting a hand on his son's shoulder. Fontaine looks curiously at Finn's grimace, and he rolls his eyes as he catches her looking, as if to say Well, Dad's spoken.

"Well, we can't have our daughter being a pirate," Will says, annoyed.

"Well me boy's not goin' ta be a meddlin' do-gooder!" Hammerhead shoots back.

"Well then we're at an impasse," Kaiko says, with a disapproving look at Hammerhead. He scowls back. "My daughter's not going to be a pirate, and your son's not going to be...not a pirate, so I don't think this is going to work."

"Woah, woah, woah," Fontaine interrupts, making the time-out sign. "Who said anything about making this work? You're jumping way too ahead of yourselves."

"But Fontaine, don't you want to get to know your soulmate?" Kaiko asks her daughter.

"Yeah, but we don't have to do it right now."

"She's right," Finn interjects. "We'll figure everything out, but we don't have to worry about it right now. Much as I'd love to get to know my lovely soulmate-" he winks at Fontaine, who rolls her eyes and looks away, hiding a blush. "-everything's fine the way it is, so let's just leave it like that for now."

The adults fall silent, digesting their logic. "Yeah, that sounds good," Will says cheerfully. Kaiko rolls his eyes at him.

"This changes nothin' Nektons," Hammerhead growls, pointing accusingly at them. "I'll find out what yer hidin'. Come on, Finn."

They stare at him, taken aback by the sudden subject change. "Oh, yeah, right," Will says, remembering why they were there.

"Well," Finn says, grinning at Fontaine as Hammerhead gives the Nektons a glare and stalks off in the direction he came from, the crew following. "Until next time, then." He offers his hand.

She raises an eyebrow at him but grins back, shaking his hand. "Until next time," she echoes.

He gives her a two-fingered salute as he walks backwards, stopping for a second as he reaches the corner.

She smiles at the boy who had given her blue as he smiles back at the girl who had given him green.

He disappears.

So, yes! It's a soulmate AU. Could you tell? :)

So I know it's not my best, but please drop a review anyway.

This wasn't my original idea, it's off a post I saw on Pinterest from tumblr. I can't put the url in but if you search 'soulmate colour au' in google and go to images, it should be there- the one with the really long hashtag at the end that ends with 'i love this omg'. Just want to give credit where it's due, y'know.
