The next morning...

"Rise and shine 'cause today you're going to Shithole Central!" Alberto said.

"It's called 'school', Alberto," Luca said. "And it's not a shithole."

"Never really been, never really cared," Alberto said. "I mean, I remember being forced to go when I was younger, so at least I know how to read and do basic shit like that."

"Well, I'm not letting our kids end up like you," Luca said. "If they drop out, I'll have your ass skinned."

"Hey, hey! You don't really mean that now, do you?" Alberto said. "I'm plenty smart for you to deal with. I'm not that stupid. I went to school and hated it."

"Yeah, I'm kidding," Luca said, kissing Alberto. "I love you."

Luca got Camilla and Emilio out the door. "Now you two wait for the train, OK?" he said. "You two are gonna love Portorosso Middle School."

"Are we also going to the school you went to, Dad?" asked Camilla.

"Yes," Luca replied. "I've already enrolled you two in Portorosso High for the 9th grade until the end of 12th."

"These are gonna be some long years," Emilio remarked. "Of complete and utter diavolo."

In a matter of seconds, the train arrived.

"It won't be that bad!" Luca said, pushing them towards the train's open doors. "Bye! I'll miss you!"

"Can we have methods of communication at least?" Emilio asked.

Luca smiled, handing each of them a phone. "Ciao! See you in the summer! Ti amo!"

He watched as the train went by, now feeling what Alberto must've felt like when he went off to school. Luca began to think if it was a good decision to leave Alberto, the only person who truly loved him the way he did.

After some thought, Luca smiled. He decided that even though the crushes were literally crushed, he still had a valuable experience in his life that he never would've thought to share with his children if it weren't for meeting Alberto, the love of his life.

Crying, he watched them go. As heartbreaking as it seemed, Luca was proud. Proud of what his children would become.
