Summary:
Mugen Dai proposes to Sonosaki Susumu.
Dai gulped from the closest lamppost a good distance from their usual bench. The bench they'd sat on by the boardwalk since they were ten, since before either of them knew what Kamizumo was or where life would take them after their first tournament.
Rin became a music teacher at the same school she and Dai attended as kids.
Kaisei took on organizing duties for the annual Kamizumo Grand Championship.
Momoken was doing reasonable business for a restaurant in an economy not in the best of form, while Ayama Luna was more or less the everlasting mega idol she dreamed of passing her sister to become.
The last Dai heard from Light, the genius showboat was out genius-ing it up overseas, systematically dominating every sport and every talent he read about.
As for Dai himself, that all depended on the minutes that followed.
Susumu was lost in the music, listening to fresh tunes on his earbuds and tapping his boot in time with the lyrics. After so many years, he was still most comfy in turtlenecks and still didn't have like five seconds to wear his suspenders over both shoulders.
Dai would admit, he wasn't always the most attentive friend. There'd been episodes he later regretted his peevishness because he came off as personally offended at everything, when he was wont for company.
"Susumu."
The shorter man's eyes were closed. He didn't perceive Dai at first.
"Susumu!"
"Oh! Dai? I'm sorry, I didn't see you!"
There was a purity to those green-orange eyes and moisturized cheeks Dai never wanted to disturb. But he had to move forward beyond that point, per Sonosaki Susumu's name.
Dai got down on one knee, presenting the ring Gotetsu urged him to buy. Dai steered clear of Western conventions in general, but gods, if the pattern just held!
They couldn't technically wed under law, but Dai hoped Susumu would accept the symbolic gesture.
Susumu entered a jittering panic. "D-D-Dai!"
Dai viewed it a positive sign. Susumu didn't faint, so he wasn't facing the music yet!
