I do not own the Seven Deadly Sins/七つの大罪 or any of the wonderful characters created by Nakaba Suzuki. The story however, is mine.

Chapter 1

Laughter & chatter filled the air at Liones College, University of Britannia. Parents and students thronged the grounds, the student halls and the cafeterias. It was move-in day and everyone was buzzing.

A tall freshman with light pink hair moved with purpose among the students, garnering odd looks as he brushed past. He stood out because of his hair but also because he was one of the few students without a parent or guardian accompanying him.

Gil didn't want anyone. He didn't need anyone.

His friends Howzer and Gri would be arriving soon enough and the three of them already had plans - well, Howzer had plans - to paint the town red. Gil wasn't looking forward much to the ruckus but he had to admit he'd missed the gang over the summer when the other two had hightailed it out of their hometown to get in one last road trip before they were forced to become academic, of all things.

The other freshman students were running around like headless chickens, trying to figure out where everything was. Gil smirked. He himself knew the campus and its grounds like the back of his hand, having spent most of his early childhood running down the corridors and playing hide-and-seek in the immaculate grounds while his father, Professor Zaratras, lectured in its halls. Of course, that had been before his untimely demise…

Gil was so lost in his memories that he didn't realise he'd crashed into somebody until they were both sprawled on the ground.

"Oww…" a very familiar voice complained over a thicket of messy blonde hair. "Head in the clouds, newbie?"

"Meliodas?"

The other boy quickly looked up and gave a great shout of laughter, face clearing immediately and springing to his feet with an easy athleticism that Gil used to envy.

"Gilthunder! Well, well, well… whatcha doing here?" Meliodas pumped his hand enthusiastically.

"Just Gil's fine," Gil murmured, his ears now matching his hair. "I just got here… "

"Oh that's right!" Meliodas snapped his fingers. "It's move-in day! You got your things sorted Gilthunder? Need a hand?"

"Oh no, I'm fine - I was going to look for Howzer and Gri-"

"No way! They're here too?" Meliodas' energy was infectious and even Gil managed to crack a smile. Without waiting for a reply, Meliodas went on, "There's this really great place called the Boar's Hat if you wanna grab a drink and catch up later. A lot of students go there"

"Ah… sure, once the guys get here… Yeah," Gil started looking around, trying to extricate himself.

Meliodas grinned at Gil's discomfort. He'd always been a bit straight-laced, at least at first, and often needed some encouragement to let loose. "Well, I know one person who's gonna be thrilled you're here."

Gil raised an eyebrow. He highly doubted that, given how morose and unsociable he'd been for the past 10 years after he'd lost both his parents. Seriously, if his friends hadn't been there…

Meliodas' grin grew even wider as he cocked his head to the side. "See for yourself."

Gil followed his gaze and turned around to look over his shoulder, hands still jammed tight into his pockets from before. He saw someone who'd just turned the corner, sunlight glinting off her indigo coloured hair, listening intently to something a friend was saying. His heart skipped a beat.

"Margaret…"

Almost as if she'd heard his voice whisper in her ear, she suddenly lifted her head and stared straight at him, her warm brown eyes meeting his icy blue ones for a moment that seemed to stretch endlessly. Gil could feel his heart beat faster, his breath quickening and his palms beginning to sweat. His fists were clenched so tight his nails were digging into his palms. He counted a beat, then two as he waited for Margaret to do something.

A small smile formed on her lips as she tilted her head a fraction, but then she was gone, sweeping past him as if he and Meliodas were no more than fellow students instead of the close-knit childhood friends they had all been.

Gil's breath came out in a whoosh. He didn't realise he'd been holding it. Mouth pursed, he turned on his heel and walked away briskly in the opposite direction to Margaret, leaving a very confused blonde senior behind, scratching his head.

Author's Note:

Hi everyone, hope you enjoyed that glimpse into the MargaretxGilthunder AU I'm currently concocting. I'm new to this site so I appreciate any reviews, especially if it's constructive criticism, so please leave something below to let me know how I'm doing. I was shocked by how few Margaret/Gilthunder stories there were and I'm a huge fan of this ship so... here it is, my first attempt at fan fiction.
