Summary/disclaimer: time for another chapter of Future Endeavor Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Ben Ten, Cartoon Network and a few others do.
(Earth, Bellwood, current day)
"Why didn't you tell me anything about this stuff?" Mason asked and blinked.
Gwen could only hum and turn to the side. Mason smiled to himself while brushing off his arms.
"All these years and yet your acting like Ben." Mason said with amusement while Gwen rubbed at her eyes.
"And your acting like we're 10 again." Gwen stated to which Mason smiled just a bit more.
"Maybe because I expect you to trust your husband with nightmares and such." Mason said as he tapped his fingers on his arms. "You haven't told Max, Lucy, Rook… Anyone about this?" Mason questioned and got a shake of the head.
"They're not that bad." Gwen put in and watched Mason hum which caused her to smack his arms. "They aren't! You really think after stopping Vilgax, the Incurseans, and the Highbreed that some nightmares are really going to stop me?" Gwen asked her husband who cupped his chin.
"You might be the best superhero on Earth… And the galaxy." Mason said and crossed his arms at his wife. "But your still only human… And you know it. I get that Max is retired; I get that Rook is busy… But if you don't want to talk to me?" Mason questioned before Gwen rolled her eyes.
Gwen knew for a fact that Mason wasn't going to let this go. Mason was nothing if not stubborn which made Gwen wonder if she should talk to someone else.
Still? If she did bother Max or Rook or anyone else? They'd want to end up talking about why she hadn't come to them sooner.
Mason blinked and rubbed at his eyes. He wondered what happened to Gwen if she was having such horrible nightmares.
"I should point out that the kids are wondering what happened to their mother." Mason hummed and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
Mason rubbed at his chin and looked at Gwen who sighed and rubbed at her temples.
"What's really bugging you?" Mason asked and looked at his arms. "You can either tell me or you can either tell Max. He's not going to be happy that his granddaughter is freaking out." Mason said which caused Gwen to sigh.
Gwen looked at Mason who walked to the window while Mason looked out the window. He looked at her for a moment and looked.
"It's not that easy to explain." Gwen responded which caused Mason to hum.
"Then tell me what you can." Mason said and turned away from the window and sigh. "I've only seen you scared a few times. Those are usually end of the world scenarios. You think he's coming be back?" Mason questioned and walked to Gwen again.
"I don't know." Gwen responded before looking at the floor. "Vilgax seemed like he croaked last time we fought. I saw him get ripped apart." Gwen put in as Mason nodded.
"We both saw him go down." Mason stated and cracked his fingers. "But you know as well as I do that Vilgax doesn't stay down. If anyone would come back from the death? It's either him or Ghostfreak." Mason added and flexed his wings for a moment.
Gwen smiled a bit at Mason messing up Zs'Skayr's name. She loved Mason, but her husband could be a doofus at the moment. Gwen still wondered what would happen if Vilgax returned.
"You know what he'd do if he was still around." Gwen said and clenched her fists. "He's tried to cross that line several times…" Gwen added and watched Mason nod.
Mason shook his head to the side and frowned. Vilgax coming back was a nightmare that didn't deserve to exist. The fact that he could come back frightened him. If Vilgax attacked their family? Mason didn't know if he and Gwen could hold back.
"He's not going to get near the kids if he ever comes here." Mason said and narrowed his eyes. "Jen and Danny know what's dangerous about him. They don't need to know what he's like in person." Mason added as he walked to the sofa.
Gwen walked to the sofa and crossed her legs while looking at Mason. Mason looked at Gwen and rubbed at his temples.
"Do you know how much I don't like being able to help you?" Mason questioned as Gwen nodded.
"Things aren't so easy to talk about, Mason." Gwen said before looking at her feet and then up at the blank tv. "Being a hero, a celebrity and a mother? It's not that easy… You have to always make compromises." Gwen put in and pulled her legs up to her chest.
Mason hugged Gwen which made the girl roll her eyes before slowly extending her own arms around her chest. Mason sighed and leaned his head on top of hers. Mason looked at the tv.
