Chapter 21: Training Day 1, Part 2
Ladies and Gentlemen, here it is, my masterpiece. Yes, it took me seven weeks after not being able to write due to an eye infection, zero motivation and school, but whenever I sniffle a writing rush coming, I will write. Out of this motivation 3/5 parts were written, so please don't be too harsh to me for not beta reading it before uploading it. Happy Pride Month by the way! When you read it, you'll probably find a crush forming in Horizon's part, but I prefer drama and betrayal over romance (even though it's nice not having to write sneaky bitches all the time). There are no real trigger warnings in this chapter, so have fun with #Chapter 21: Training Day 1, Part 2!
Underneath this chapter will be a complete list for you and me to keep track of alliances, I'll continue writing this list for the whole arena section. Additionally, I've decided to not pursuit the Capitol plotline anymore since it would simply be too much to write and I thought about probably ending this story before the final chapter. I understand if you wanted to know more about the Capitol plotline, but with every word it became bigger than planned and as I was already struggling with continuing the story, I needed to decide between the Capitol plot and the actual Games. So, I'm really sorry to end the Capitol Plotline with Atticus, Artemesia & CO. Artemesia will have a few more PoV's, but those are simply part of the Gamemaker Plotline.
Nolan Rhodes, 18, District 2 male
He wasn't sure if he could trust them.
Ever since he tricked Diana, Nolan felt like she was about to murder him as soon as he wasn't paying attention. Lucretia on the other hand, was charming and friendly, but Nolan knew these kind of people from his Training academy back in District 2. The people back there had been envying him since they found out about his illness which caused him to not be able to feel any physical pain. Nolan knew that Wayne was more fascinated of his decease but it was also clear to every member of the career pack that Nolan might be their strongest competitor. The only one who he sightly trusted was Shasta. The girl from District 4 had been training with him on the station for spear throwing the whole morning now and she never asked him anything about it.
"Who do you think will be our leader?", the blonde asked before she threw her javelin straight into the dummy's chest. Nolan bit his tongue. He always wanted to lead the career pack in his games. The academy didn't teach him something else. "I don't know. Lucretia indirectly said she wanted to, but it seems like we're watching each other for today and tomorrow we decide who will be the leader." Nolan threw the javelin that also hit the red circle which was labeled on the deadly zones of the human body. He didn't even have to look at the girl from 10 who gasped in terror. Shasta turned her head, looking through the large hall where the other tributes trained. Nolan noticed that she avoided looking up to the zone for aquatic fighting where her district partner Fen was currently speaking to the girl from 7.
"I don't know if I would trust Lucretia as a leader. The position gives a lot of power to her and people in power tend to do stupid things just because they can", Shasta said before heading towards the center of the training hall. Nolan followed her to Wayne who was currently chatting with Diana about the potential dangers of mutations. "Believe me, Wayne, if you see a mut, you better remember every detail of its body. You know, just in case you have to fight it", Diana smiled slyly and greeted Shasta by handling her a water bottle. His district partner avoided looking at him as Wayne started to whistle a melody he never heard before. The other careers did not dare to speak until Wayne ended his song.
"That was lovely. What's the name of the song?", Shasta asked. "It's an ancient melody which announced the presence of District 1 soldier's during the Dark Days. Every child in one knows the melody", a murky voice answered. Lucretia had matched her dark cloths with dark eye make-up in order to look more terrifying. Nolan didn't know if he should laugh about her pathetic way of demonstrating dominance or freeze in fear. "We have something similar to your melody in 4 too. It is always played at funerals of important people." Lucretia nodded annoyed before sitting down on the platform.
"Well, nice to know that our district's do have a connection except of the Games. But we have much more important things to talk about. I snuck around for a while and watched the other tributes." "And? The alliance between the kiddos from 8 aren't spectacular news, Lu", Wayne chuckled. Lucretia narrowed her eyes in annoyance. "I just wanted to tell you guys that this giant from 7 does not want to join us and that his district partner, Ivy, allied with Fen. And don't you dare to call me Lu ever again, got it Thompson?!"
Shasta looked at Lucretia with displeasure, while Wayne grinned broadly. "Yea, whatever. When Paul doesn't want to ally with us, he'll be the number one on our target list. I got a feeling that he might be more dangerous than everyone thinks."
"Since we're talking about alliances, Shasta and I were asking ourselves who would like to be our leader. Anyone who would like to run for this position?", Nolan said, just waiting for Lucretia and maybe Diana to say that they would run for it.
"I don't like to be in this position but I think we should have a competition and the winner of it becomes our leader. Before you can say something, Lucretia", Shasta shuts the blonde girl down, "I want to remind every single one of you that this position requires a sharp wit and strength, both mentally and physically. The Headmaster of Training told me that the Capitol installed a brand-new simulation room where we can train a real fight scene. I suggest that Lucretia, Nolan and Diana, if you guys would like to be the leader, are each fighting a dangerous simulation which will be selected by Wayne and me. The winner is the person who comes up with the best way of solving the simulation. Any other ideas?"
"Sounds good to me. But I think we're having a lunch break now", Diana stated and nodded towards the entrance where they came from the test room this morning. Two peacekeepers were opening a big door and the Headmaster of Training appeared again with a megaphone in her hands. "Everyone, stop exercising and follow me to your lunch room. We'll come back here in an hour!"
The other tributes came back to the podium in the middle of the training hall, mumbling about the new learned things or private stuff. Nolan walked down the hallway to the lunch room, listening to some old fishermen's tale Shasta told Diana, when he noticed that there was an unsettling silence coming from Wayne and Lucretia. He stopped and turned around just to see how Lucretia grabbed Wayne by his collar and sneaked away with him. Was she seriously trying to kidnap her district partner?! Poor girl, she should have learned that her way of pursuing the lead wasn't exactly working out. "Are you okay, Nolan?" Shasta and Diana looked at him worried but he winked them off. "I'm fine – I just need to go for little tributes, you know?", Nolan smiled while pressing his legs together. He must look like an idiot. Diana raised an eyebrow before she took Shasta's arm. "I guess we'll be waiting for you in the lunch room then. Let's go, Shasta. I cannot wait to try some of the delicious vegan food." Nolan waited until the girls got into the lunch room before rushing after his two allies.
Lucretia Aurum, 18, District 1 female
"Are you so scared of failure?", Wayne asked, while he tried to push her away from him. Lucretia narrowed her eyes, starring at her district partner. "We both know that Nolan or Diana are going to be our downfall. Don't you dare making me responsible if something goes wrong in the arena. We need someone who is also a good strategist and not only a good fighter." Wayne pushed himself away from the stoned wall of the women restroom, getting close enough for Lucretia to smell his cologne. "And you're thinking this person is you? I will explain it only once for you: There's nobody in our whole alliance who believes you should be the leader. You're a show-off, you're not respecting anyone or anything! Don't try to tell me that this is something you understand as leadership qualities!", Wayne breathed heavily, clearly trying to hold himself back. Lucretia knew about his anger issues; Roger told her everything she needed to know. "Oh, then you would prefer a loser as leader?! Don't try to interrupt me, Wayne", Lucretia hissed, "our alliance is a ticking bomb. With the wrong strategy this bomb is going to explode during the bloodbath and I'm not quite sure if we would survive it. Have you seen the others? Diana could shoot us from 6o meters, Shasta wouldn't hesitate to stab us while we're asleep just to keep herself safe and Nolan – he's literally the scariest person I've ever met. Being invulnerable isn't as good as it sounds!"
Wayne smirked at her, before turning on the water. He washed his face, trying to cool it down so no one would see the red pocks on this face and throat. "Why are you laughing?" Lucretia frowned. Was he making fun of her? "How dumb was I that I didn't notice that earlier? Lucretia Aurum, the most popular girl of District 1, the most cunning person to ever exist, is jealous about Nolan!", Wayne clapped in excitement. She knew it wasn't allowed to hurt another tribute before the games started, but as soon as Wayne finished his sentence, Lucretia slapped his stupidity out of him. "Did you just slap me?!", he gasped, holding his cheek where now a red handprint was. Did he have to be so dramatic? "We don't have to be their best friends, Wayne. We're having an alliance with them because this benefits everyone", Lucretia stated. "But to be honest, I don't expect the alliance to last for three days in the Games. This combination of skill, envy and hunger for power is toxic." "And what do you wanna do about it? If you want to take control over them, you'll have to win the simulation", Wayne meant, still rubbing his cheek.
"I don't have to be in lead to influence the decisions in the arena. Of course, I'll try and win but just in case something goes wrong, I have made another plan", she whispered. If the other careers found out what she was about to tell Wayne, they would hunt her down first. Lucretia pulled Wayne closer. "Remember when I sneaked around this morning? I wasn't only talking to the guy from 7. I talked to someone who wasn't quite sure if he could trust me, but he agreed on an alliance. Did you know that District 10 has severe issues with gangs and vandalism?"
She could see how Wayne put the information together. "Are you sure about him? He doesn't seem to be very trustworthy…", Wayne stuttered. Lucretia hissed. "Jeddison doesn't need to be trustworthy. I've made a deal with him: We're giving him some supplies and he helps us killing the others. And don't worry, the boy is loyal since he was member of a gang before the Games. He eventually wanted to quit, then his friend gave him a scar to remember him what he was part of."
"His story could attract sponsors. Jeddison is strong and if you're saying he was a gang member he probably is good at close-range fighting." Lucretia was glad that Wayne at least tried to consider her idea. Roger told her that it would be hard to just relay on the other careers who would kill them if they wanted to; Diana could shoot them, Shasta was very skilled with the spear and Nolan with his invulnerability was a danger himself. "I'm in. But we're only doing this if the alliance isn't working out at all, got it?" Wayne patted her shoulder when Lucretia suddenly heard a noise coming from outside the restroom. She felt her heart beating faster; she panicked. "What I told you stays between us! If I find out that you said a single word about this, I'll take you to hell with me", Lucretia stated. Wayne quickly agreed before leaving the restroom.
The girl was about to leave too, but when she looked into the mirror, she was shocked. It wasn't her anymore who spoke. Lucretia still had blonde hair and green eyes, but everyday until the final gong sounded, the shadows under her eyes got stronger and darker, her porcelain skin lighter. Scared, Lucretia understood, that she looked older and tired of all this. The Games truly made them grew up faster that they should.
Brea Greensdale, 16, District 6 female
Brea didn't believe she could hate somebody more than Ama Carter. It wasn't only the way she spoke, ate or breathed but also her aura of toxicity and selfishness that made Brea's urge to kill her even bigger. Maybe she just should have let the axe hit Ama earlier. At least the girl would have been quiet then. Her district partner, Rolan, didn't even noticed how Ama tried to get him on her side. If the eleven girl stayed, Ama wouldn't hesitate to backstab her in the arena. Furiously, Brea continued to poke her Caesar chicken salad. Back home in District 6, the only thing that motivated her to eat salad was the green color of lettuce. She couldn't believe that there were people who only ate salad because they were vegan. Fortunately, the lady who gave them their lunch plate told her earlier that there would be multiple dishes.
"I think you should join our alliance, Ama. You would be a great addition!", Rolan said happily and holding his hand out for Ama to shake. Brea couldn't care less when she noticed he said their alliance. "Wait – I never agreed on this! Can I talk to you in private, Rolan?" Her district partner swallowed hard, before standing up. Brea grabbed him by his training jacket, pulling him away from their table. "Listen, I know that you don't like Ama or people in general, but she has skills we cannot learn in a few days. And haven't you been paying attention when our mentor said that we should pick someone as an ally who can be defeated easily? Ama isn't able to fight like on of us. So, what's your problem?" Rolan looked at her like he wanted to rip out her soul. Ama Carter was certainly not the perfect match.
"Haven't you noticed how she tries to manipulate us into liking her? The way she always wants to be close to us? I remember her saying that she wants to talk to multiple people before deciding on an alliance. I can practically scent an evil person, Rolan."
"I can totally understand what you're trying to say, Brea. I'm not dumb. Of course, I realized something is wrong with her. But that's not the point: We can immediately kill her when she tries to turn on us. Just play along for as long as possible, okay?" Rolan patted her on the shoulder before smiling at Ama who had been watching them talking. "This isn't about preference, Brea, it's about survival. We'll kill her when she becomes useless to us. And now start smiling and shake her bloody hand."
Brea forced herself to smile at Ama, before grabbing a new plate. Playing along with the sneaky girl wouldn't solve any of the problems Ama could or definitely would create. Rolan might think he's doing a good job by trying to re-manipulate Ama instead, but she already knew it wouldn't work.
Frustrated, Brea shoved tons of food on her plate. She knew she wasn't going to eat everything up, but she really needed to drown herself in chocolate cake now. If people would start listening to her, everything would be better at the moment, she would feel safe. The last time she felt safe, was when Wren held her after Steve died. Nobody could harm her sister now.
"Do you mind not eating all slices of the cake? I'd like to have some too…", a boy's voice said. Brea turned to the boy, who she recognized must be from District 8, before telling him to fuck off. The boy looked surprised of her sudden outburst, but he simply turned away and waited for her to leave the buffet. Brea sneered and returned to her table. She could see how Rolan worried about her when he saw the seven slices of chocolate cake. They would talk later, Brea knew, when they were alone and back at their apartment.
They continued their lunch in silence, listening to other conversations. Brea refused to eat anything besides cake and soon Rolan gave up, trying to convince her to do otherwise. He had offered her a bite from his lobster sandwich, which looked surprisingly delicious, and persisted looking over to the career's table.
"I'm surprised they haven't decided yet who is to be their leader. Normally, they to this within the first hour", Ama added. This was the smartest thing the girl had said so far and even Brea had to agree with her. "I've heard that there is to be a contest where each of them fights and the best is in lead then", Rolan replied. Brea looked around, seeing how the careers – well, Shasta and Diana- were happily chatting, whilst the One's were frowning whenever the simulation was mentioned. It appeared that Wayne was even frightened by the idea of a realistic simulation, although he trained for the Games back home in District 1.
This year's tributes were a strange pack. Some of them were almost excited to finally enter the arena, others were afraid of it. Brea glanced over to the table in the very back, where the 12's were sitting and talking to the little kiddos from eight. Automatically, Brea felt sorry for being mean to them. They were so young and innocent, that it hurt of even thinking at least one of them would die. The Capitol truly made her heart clench in her breast. How could they punish children after all those years? Haven't they got enough vengeance?!
Brea remembered the little speech from the district 9 girl. It was foolish to threaten the Capitol with riots, especially this close to the Games. Brea didn't want to think about how the Game Makers would make their days in the arena much more terrifying, just because a 14-year old decided to openly rebel against their government. It wasn't that Amber Henthrow wasn't right, because she certainly was, but there must be better ways of harming the Capitol. Riots would immediately be shushed down, the organizers sent to prison or even to death, followed by more food to be rationalized than already. Luckily, Brea never had to feel hungry for real, unlike the kids from outlying districts like 11 and 12, but still she didn't want to have anyone experience hunger. She had seen photographs from her sociology book where children were so slim that she could count their bones. Her stomach turned. Suddenly, she felt bad for eating all the chocolate cake (even though it was delicious). Other people had nothing and she was sitting here, in the lap of the Capitol with all her tribute privileges, whilst they were literally starving.
Now Brea understood why Diana Lane had decided to participate in the Hunger Games. The career girl might not want to end the hunger in the districts, however she wanted to change the healthcare system for animals in need. Brea could help the people when she won, right? Every victor was permitted a giant amount of money and lived in luxury. Some of the former victors decided to found organizations or in case of the career districts, training centers, but at least they tried to help. Of course there was always a bad side of glamour and wealth; many victors, especially those from District 6, became addicted to drugs. It made Brea angry, thinking how they could have done something good with their wealth, instead of sitting around and doing drugs.
"Brea, are you good? You look like you wanted to re-act a Capitol Rom-Con all by yourself", Rolan said and much to Brea's annoyance, she understood why he was worried this time. She must have become really pale, like she always became when she was angry. Other people cried, she turned into stone. "It's good, was just thinking about the mandatory exercises after lunch. I've heard a trainer saying that there would be a parkour we have to master", she lied.
Ama opened her mouth to say something, but she was immediately interrupted by the Head Master of Training who announced how the training would continue. "Please listen and do as requested: Everybody stays with their district partner until the mandatory exercises are over. If you hurt yourself during one of the exercises, there'll be medics. There are four mandatory exercises: A parkour, a toxicology quiz, a duel with a trainer and a brand-new simulation which will identify your worst fear. Don't worry, it will automatically end after ten minutes. Alright, we'll separate you in two groups and then we'll get started! Everybody who comes from a District with an even number follows me, the others follow my colleague!"
Conan Bruce, 17, District 12 male
Whenever Conan Bruce thought about being abandoned, it instantly reminded him of his parents who left him in front of that musky orphanage. Even 17 years later, it still felt horrible, although he knew it wasn't his fault. Now he saw everything he did until this day flashing right before his eyes. The Capitol medic gave him a thick purple drink, its texture similar to a smoothie which smelled like mulled wine to drink, and as soon as the glass was empty, his vision began.
He was five years old and stood in front of the lane which connected District 12's Seam with the dangerous forest. Its gate was already orange from rust, only hanging in one angle. Little Conan was watching the sunset, a nice bundle of violet flowers lying next to him. He picked them for the substitute teacher that came every month to take the orphans to a control visit at the local doctor.
Lying in his medical chair – comparable to the one you sit on during a dentist's appointment- his older self wondered what could be so dangerous about this simulation. To be honest, the atmosphere was even enlightening his mood. When he was sitting in the cafeteria earlier, he felt nervous and small compared to everyone else. Misty has been having a friendly conversation with the district 8 kids, who were truly two of the nicest people he had ever met, and his district partner or friend, as Misty liked to say it, never left his side. Conan had been asking himself what he could be seeing in the simulation. He was easily frightened by a lot of things; the dark, new people and especially the Games themselves. Others would call it a weakness, but to quote Ms. Millers, the woman who owned the orphanage: Only a fool isn't scared of his own shadow. Conan chose to live by this statement. Maybe it was the only thing that didn't make him feel like a complete idiot, but it made him feel brave. Instinctively, the boy grabbed his amulet, the one his parents gave him before leaving him alone, like he always did when he needed to feel brave. It was made of wood and looked like a lion, at least that was what Ms. Millers said, and he couldn't disagree because he had never seen a lion before. Touching it helped him staying calm. His mind drove back to the vision and suddenly Conan felt like he was about to die.
The sun had set mere minutes ago and little Conan was ready to head straight back to the orphanage, as the moon vanished. His younger version frowned, as he felt something coming closer from the forest. When he turned around, it disappeared behind the tree line, close enough to still observe the little boy and still far enough for him not to directly see what it was. His heart stopped for a second, before little Conan decided to start running. It felt good running away from his demons or sometimes his classmates, but this time he wasn't fast enough. The beast was running behind him, Conan could feel its breath on his exposed neck and he heard its steps coming closer. Due to his short legs, he wasn't very fast and Conan was soon caught by the beast. Right before the beast could clash its claws inside of him, the location changed.
Once again, the vision suddenly stopped. Conan breathed heavily, still holding the amulet. He felt Misty's hand on his shoulder as she tried to hold him in his seat. He wanted to open his eyes, but he couldn't. It felt like a nightmare without an ending. In the distance he could her the Head Master of Training saying something to the medic. Is this how coma feels like? His heartbeat soon slowed down to a normal pace, then he heard a girl screaming. He was pretty sure it was Anya. Was she currently in a simulation too? What scared her so much? Misty said something he could not understand and then he drove back into the vision for the last time.
Everything was blurry and dark. Conan tried to open his mouth, desperately gasping for air. The pressure on him immediately made him feel close to unconsciousness. His lungs were burning, his hands desperately holding onto his throat. When he moved his head, he saw a silver light and then it became clear to him, where he was. Underwater, drowning. The cold waterdragged him down, holding him in its non-existent claws. Conan did not know what felt worse, the mut chase or drowning. His adrenalin was pumped through his body, but he wasn't able to swim back to the surface. He became deaf, every sound he made was getting lower. The boy started to move, every inch of his body burning, but no chance. As soon as he hit the sea ground, he knew it was over. His body became weaker, his head was getting heavy.
Conan woke up with a loud gasp, Misty instantly on his side. He held onto the chair, heavily breathing and still confused by what he just experienced. Misty's lips were moving and he knew she was talking to him. His surrounding was still blurry when a medic reached for his arm. Conan wanted to take it away, however he couldn't move. His body was numb, but his mind became sharper. The medic opened the compress around his arm, greeting him with a kind smile before saying it was Misty's turn now. The Head Master of Training passed and congratulated him for staying so calm, which made him feel insecure. How could he have stayed so calm when he was about to face death? The medic helped him stand up and Misty laid down on the chair instead. Conan faced his friend one last time, before her eyes closed and the medic gave her the drink.
Horizon Havenfirth, 16, District 10 female
This simulation was the worst thing Horizon has ever experienced.
She felt vulnerable, watching how Jeddison drank this juice of death, after she knew how he would feel. Maybe she should sit next to the district 12 boy, Conan, and just wait for the simulation to be over, but Horizon could not bring herself to leave Jeddison here all by himself, even after he abandoned her. Their relationship, if you could even call it a relationship, wasn't the best. Soon after entering the train to the Capitol, he embarrassed her in front of their mentor and escort. Jeddison Ranger made her feel weak, not in a romantic way, and this made her furious.
But seeing other people being in pain or scared was a red flag for Horizon. Her mother taught her to stand up for the weaker one's and to protect the one's who needed it. Currently, even though Jeddison didn't actually said it, Horizon had the urge to stay. She watched as her district partner started to frown, before he turned white as a ghost. This reaction was understandable, especially since Horizon immediately knew how he felt. Her vision was most likely to be completely different from the one Jeddison was currently experiencing. Even after ten minutes and the knowledge that all of this wasn't even real, she had goosebumps all over her body. She thought that he might be seeing something for his time back in 10, where he was part of the Black-Raven gang, a local group of vagabonds who would spray graffiti on monuments throughout the district. The peacekeepers were always close to identifying the responsible one's but till now they never succeed. Maybe he was being punished by them in his vision? Though, while he was a former gang member, Jeddison never felt safe. After his appearance on the train, Horizon tried to break the contact with him, which was indeed difficult because they were literally living across each other. She understood that his coldness was supposed to keep her and the things she knew about him secure, so she played along.
Horizon had to find another alliance to join; she couldn't remember a victor from the past decade who won without having allies. But the most important reason for having an alliance was the safety of not being alone in such a terrifying place as the arena or probably her place of death. She wondered what the arena would look like. There had been many forests in the last Games, what made something similar to a desert or swamp more likely. If Horizon could wish for an arena, it should look like a big farm with animals (of course they're friendly and not mutations) with a wide range of hills surrounding it.
"You look a little bit lost, can I help you somehow?", a boy said and Horizon looked into the eyes of Fen Orta, the district 4 boy. He has nice eyes. Like the ocean, she thought. Horizon looked back at Jeddison who stopped whimpering. He would be okay after she left, she knew he wouldn't like to have her around him anyways. "I was waiting for him to finish the simulation. Where you in there too?", she asked kindly and blushed when Fen reached for a loose strain of her dark hair that must have found its way out of her ponytail. The blonde boy softly hummed a melody, unfamiliar to her, and looked over to the other half of tributes that were doing their mandatory exercises. "It's a very personal question to ask, but would you tell me what you saw in the simulation? I'm trying not to feel lonely right now, after having to see how everyone I love is dying in a fire", Fen explained and he sounded so sad and kind that it made Horizons heart jump. Why did she have to find someone so nice exactly here? The boy still glanced to his district partner, who was a member of the career alliance.
Horizon decided that it would be good to tell someone, who would probably die in the same place as she would, everything on her mind, since it appeared that Fen Orta did not anyone to talk about it too. She didn't like loneliness either, so it was only fair after he shared his biggest fear with her. "I saw myself and my sister in a desert. As far as you could see, there was only sand and nothing but sand. We had been walking forever and didn't have enough water for both of us. So, we had to choose", her voice broke. Tears were forming in her eyes. It was horrible even thinking about it. "I sacrificed myself for my sister. She had to watch me dying."
Fen gazed back at her, a gentle smile on his lips and an understanding look. "A horrible thought, dying. It's so…ending, you understand? I knew we would have to face death in the Games but seeing and feeling yourself dying right here where you're supposed to feel safe, it does things with your mind. Especially when your beloved ones have to watch you dying", he said.
"Would you mind allying with me and Ivy?", Fen asked her after a comforting silence. Horizon smiled. "Ivy as the district 7 girl? She seems nice, haven't gotten around to talk to her yet", she answered and tried to find the Asian looking girl in the tributes crowd. Currently, the girl from one was climbing through the parkour like a monkey. Would she be able to do it like her? Definitely not, but at least she would have somebody to talk now, which she was sure Lucretia hasn't.
"I am sure you two will get along very easily. You're both similar in character", Fen added and he whistled, which made multiple tributes look at him in confusion, but Ivy seemed to recognize it instantly and the girl waved friendly after noticing Horizon. Horizon couldn't help it and a smile broke from her caramel face. Even if she had to die, she wouldn't be lonely. That's more than she could have asked for.
