Hey everyone. NeroReborn here. I'm glad to have gotten so many views for a rather obscure crossover. Now, I know there are a few nitpicks that people have with the story, And I want to address them.
First, the question posted by JaphetSkie. The reason why Arma is still black is that, As far as I gathered from the canon, the only things that the holy weapons changed when the heroes were summoned, was increase their physical and magical potential to be on par with the heroes of this world. It didn't change their outward appearance at all, so Arma kept the same appearance he had in his own world.
Now, for the things touched on by Drmcgraw186. The idea of stats isn't a concept Arma can really grip, and as the divines warned him, He's being cautious about things. Motoyasu and Itsuki have both done nothing but prove that they are taking this situation way too lightly, and would much rather prefer knowing that he could trust someone before asking for information.
Seeing as they are each assigned a legendary weapon, Arma presumes that must mean each has their own strengths. And, in the armed with wings cannon, There was never a single person who used shields, at least in gameplay. and, the hearing of Naofumi having a score much lower than Motoyasu's, Arma can piece together that Naofumi's damage output will be lacking, even if he took up another weapon.
And for the translation feature, This is one I gave to him because, unlike the other three, Arma was tasked with judging this world, So him having as much of an understanding of it as possible would be far more ideal for his mission.
Now that that's out of the way, I do hope that you all enjoy the second chapter of A hero armed with wings. Now Arma and the others set out to get more accustomed to this world, and get partners... Well... That remains to be seen. On with the story.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters or settings of Armed with wings or Rising of the shield hero.
Arma looked up from finishing the last book the servant had given him, noticing dawn approaching. "... When was the last time I slept? He sighs, before idly bringing up his menu, looking it over to see if he could make more sense of it. "Itsuki and Motoyasu have yet to show they any more than cocky fools... Perhaps I should ask Naofumi about this. He seemed to be the most competent... I'll see if I can speak with him privately." His eyes wander over the stats, falling onto the skill list.
There were several bar like images with words on them. He idly looks through them, Noting they mostly stated what skills he already had. His eyes land on 'language translation' and notices that there was a symbol on it that wasn't on the others, a series of small lines to make up the image of a pair of wings. "Hmm... Perhaps that means it's something that the divines have granted me?"
He stands up, calling the eagle to him. "So the queen is the one who truly rules this country, then why isn't she present? If this country is beset by waves of malicious creatures.. is this the only country dealing with them? There are too many facts missing, and the slavery of these demi-humans... It's no better than the rule of Vandheer Lorde..." He mulls things over, before picking up the sword, sheathing it on his side. "I will have to see it with my own eyes."
A knock came to Arma's door, Opening as the servant from last night peeked in. "E-excuse the intrusion, sir sword hero, But a breakfast has been prepared for you and the other heroes. They have already arrived at the dining room." Arma nods. "Thank you. I will join them shortly." She nods, closing the door as she quickly walked away, Arma looking to his eagle. "It has been a long time since we've had properly cooked food, my old friend... Hopefully This will go without incident."
He walks out of his room, another servant leading him to a large, extravagant dining room with a whole feast of food on it. Naofumi was eating while Motoyasu and Itsuki seemed to be having an argument. Motoyasu scoffs. "No, This is just like emerald online. Even the people are similar." Itsuki frowns. "No, It's like brave star online. What era did you grow in?" Arma sighs, taking a seat near Naofumi who had scooted away from the two bickering heroes. "What are those two arguing about now?" Naofumi sighs. "It seems that the three of us come from different version of the same world, but at different time eras. This world apparently resembles a video game they played, but they're arguing about which one it's most like."
Arma sighs, gathering a small amount of the food on a plate, leaving some sesame seeds and strips of meat for his eagle as it pecked and ate the food. "I don't know what kind of game they think this is, but I can assure you, this world is no game." Naofumi nods. "Good luck convincing them... wait... you've never heard of a video game before?" Arma shakes his head. "No. I am familiar with some games from my childhood, but such things are a far gone memory." Naofumi frowns. "... If you don't mind answering... What's the latest technological advancement in your world?" Arma blinks lightly. "Automated saw blades for construction and defenses."
Naofumi nods. "Okay... Do you know what a computer is? A steam engine?.. cars?" Arma shakes his head. "No. None of those are familiar to me." Naofumi whistles. "Man. Your world is a long way behind ours in terms of technology. In our world, yours sounds to be in about medieval times, the age of swords and shields... wait... does that mean you don't know what your stats mean?" Arma nods. "The purpose of the numbers are lost on me. I do hope I can rely on the rest of you for answers... Although, with those two bickering, I believe they would be more harm than good."
Naofumi chuckles. "Yeah. They won't be stopping any time soon... Also... Thanks for sticking up for me yesterday." Arma nods. "Judging a man by the weapon he carries is the same as mistaking a vine for a snake. Shields were... rarely ever used in my world, but each weapon must have been chosen to be legendary for a reason... Perhaps you should look into obtaining another weapon at the quickest opportunity, or a companion that can aid in battle... I have seen a couple of old shield designs that seemed to be a mix of offense and defense." Naofumi blinks. "What do you mean?" Arma shrugs. "Shields can be designed for more than just defense. Several of the ancient shields I've seen in texts were designed with spikes, Blades on the rim, Stakes that stab into the ground or into creatures. There is quite a multitude."
Naofumi looked surprised. "I'll have to see if I can find any. Thanks." They ate while Motoyasu and Itsuki bickered, their argument getting louder and louder until Arma's eagle decided enough was enough and flew above them, squawking loudly, getting both of the bickering heroes to recoil. Motoyasu glared towards Arma. "Hey, keep a leash on your brain dead bird!" Arma looks to Motoyasu with a face of indifference. "My loyal companion shares the same ideals as I, and like myself, does not tolerate the bickering of fools. It should be obvious that this world is no game, no matter the similarities this world bears to the ones you speak of." Motoyasu scoffs. "Whatever, man. You obviously don't know anything about this. What kind of guy doesn't know what stats are?"
Arma chose at that point to tune them out, turning back to Naofumi. "If it isn't a bother, could you explain what these 'stats' are supposed to represent?" Naofumi nods. "Well, most of them are abbreviations of words. For example, STR means strength, representing brute strength, AGI means agility, representing how fast you can move in battle, ATK means attack, gauging how much damage a single attack usually deals. Since this is similar to a game to the rest of us... The amount of damage a creature or person can take before dying is represented by a number under HP, which means hit points. Your attack is how many of those hit points are taken away when you hit something, after armor points are taken away... Does that explain it?" Arma pulls up his stats. "I see... Well, the highest number on my is my Agility as you called it... and my lowest would be... DEF?" Naofumi nods. "Defense. That changes depending on what armor you use, or the properties of your weapon." Arma looks it over. "We shall see." Naofumi chuckles. "Defense is my highest stat, but my attack is one... It's kind of sad, really, but that's what you can expect from having a shield as a weapon." Arma shakes his head. "Do not judge by looks, Naofumi. Even a shield can be a deadly weapon in the right hands... In my world, I awoke with little more than my original katana blade... And even if it was seen as the weakest weapon I could have wielded, I used that weapon to achieve my goal, defeating every foe against the odds." Naofumi whistled while the sounds of Motoyasu and Itsuki bickering rose, signaling they both weren't listening. "Sounds like you have experience in this hero business." Arma frowns, looking to the bickering heroes, before back to Naofumi. "... I am no hero, Naofumi... but I fought for The cause that I believed in. But I will give this advise to you, Naofumi." Naofumi blinks, before nodding, showing he was listening. "... Do not give trust blindly. The comrades I had in my world... I earned their trust through battle, heartache and pain. Because when one's life is on the line... That is when one shows their true nature."
A servant comes in, wearing a maid uniform, but she seemed to be some sort of beast-man, her bunny ears drooping on her head as she meekly approached. "M-my heroes, The king will see you now." Arma gives a nod as he and the other heroes stand up from their seats, Following the maid back towards the throne room, The large, heavy doors opening to show the king once again sitting on his throne, Along with several other individuals, both male and female, wearing armor and carrying weapons. The king greets them with a nod. "Oh great heroes. We have brought to you all the finest adventurers our kingdom has to offer, to join you all in your quest for defeating the waves of calamity. Come forth, so that you may form your parties." Arma frowns, raising an eyebrow. "So these adventurers chose which of us they want to join?... that sounds highly unreliable. They don't know us and we don't know them. This could easily lead to disaster." The heroes line up, Arma standing between Naofumi and Itsuki, before the adventurers started to move to line up behind them, Arma's eyes narrowing as 3 of them stood behind him, another 3 behind Itsuki, and 5 girls stood behind Motoyasu, Naofumi left with nobody. Naofumi frowns while the king hummed to himself as a noble leaned in to whisper to him. "Such terrible news. I'm afraid these adventurers have not joined you, shield hero, due to a rumor that you are less knowledgeable of the ways of our world."
Naofumi gawks, sputtering in disbelief. Arma sighs, and turns to the three behind you. "Do you all believe this rumor?" the party was of 2 males and a female. The averagely built male with a sword, A more burly man with a large axe, and a woman with a katana at her side. All three of them nod, resolve in their conviction. Arma sighs. "I see." He turns to the king. "I'm afraid i cannot take this party, your majesty. I will be making my path alone." Everyone was surprised by this, the king's eyes widening. "W-why would you do such a thing sir Arma!?" Arma did not flinch at his surprised look, simply staring back at the king. "I cannot trust them." This threw everyone for a loop, Motoyasu frowning, stomping over to Arma "What do you mean you can't trust them!? Are you insane or stupid!?" Arma glances to him, Motoyasu flinching at how cold his gaze was. "I am of sound mind and completely calm in this moment, Motoyasu. In this quest, we are expected to gain strength to fight waves of calamity that can destroy the very world we are in. For that purpose, Our parties should be people that we can trust. People we can rely on to aid us should the need arise. People that I can trust with my life." He turns to the 3 adventures. "This is no offense to you all personally, But I cannot trust those who would let baseless rumors with no clear proof to them affect their judgement of another person." The adventurers all flinch at how calm his voice was, And as much as they wanted to deny it... He spoke the truth.
Altucray frowns, Arma noticing his clenched fist, before the king sighed. "... If that is what you desire, then we can only respect your decision. You will have to find party members on your own. As will the shield hero if no one here wishes to join him now." A single hand raised from the girls that were behind Motoyasu. "If it would be allowed, I would like to switch to the shield hero's party." Arma looks to the girl, Noting the girl was wearing leather armor with decorative bangles on her hair and arms, A large amount of red hair falling on the sides of her face. She looked like an innocent young woman, but when Arma looked at her... He had to stop himself from growling. Something about this woman was wrong. Being a fighter for many years, Arma had gained a sort of sixth sense about the enemies he fought, and this woman... something about her made Arma on alert. "This feeling she has... It is dark, twisted with underlying malice... It reminds me of Vandheer Lorde." He takes a breath as the king nods, Naofumi giving a sort of sad smile. "Well... I don't want to have someone if it isn't their choice, but... It would help to not be alone at first." The girl smiles, coming up to Naofumi. "My name is Myne Sophia. It's a pleasure to be a part of your party, sir shield hero."
Myne walks to behind Naofumi as the king raised a hand. "Very well. You will each be given six hundred silvers to begin your journey. The shield hero and Sir Arma will be given eight hundred due to the low number of party members." The maid from before walks to each of them, carrying a sack full of coins for each. Arma takes his, but frowns lightly, mentally noting to speak with Naofumi in private. The king raises a had. "Go forth, Heroes, and save our world from the waves of calamity!" Arma's face remain neutral, before he turns to leave, along with the others.
Outside of the castle, Naofumi is smiling as they walk along the streets, Motoyasu and Itsuki having split off with their parties. Myne was hugging his arm, staying close to him, while Arma walked behind them, Narrowing his eyes at Myne, before noting a sign. "A blacksmith..." He steps inside, Naofumi noticing Arma go inside, Before following. A tall, Well built man wearing blacksmith attire was leaning on the main desk on the far wall, The rest of the shop filled to the brim with all manner of weapons and armor. Swords, shields, spears and bows seemed to be the most common, while there were other polearms, maces, and more simplistic weapons. The man behind the desk straightens up. "Ah. Hello. My name is Erhard. I own this shop. What can I do for you?" Arms steps up after glancing around. "I am curious, do you happen to have a katana? As much as this sword would benefit me, I am more familiar with that sort of blade." Erhard chuckles. "Ah, that is a fancy sword you've got. Hold on, Let me see what I can find." He rummages in the back as Myne giggles. "I'll go try on some armor, Sir shield hero." She goes over to a armor stand, taking a female designed light armor piece before taking it to a back room to change. Arma looks to Naofumi, starting to speak quietly. "Be careful about that girl, Naofumi." Naofumi blinks, confused. "Why?" Arma looks towards the changing room. "... I could hear you both talking as we made our way here. She hasn't addressed you by name once. She changes to be with you at the last second, And is getting very close, Even though you met less than an hour ago. It's all suspicious." Naofumi frowns, before thinking on it. "... Yeah, it is odd but... it would be rude to just turn her away now that she's a part of my team..." Arma sighs. "... Just be on your guard."
Myne came out, wearing a set of light chainmail that fit her form well, smiling. "What do you think, sir shield hero?" Naofumi blushes lightly. "It looks alright on you, Myne." Arma ignores the red haired woman as Erhard came back out with a katana, the tempered metal showing where the hammer had struck the blade, refining it. "This is the best one I've got. it will run you at least sixty gold." Arma nods. "How much in silver?" Erhard smiles. "Six hundred." Arma nods. "Might I see it for a moment?" Erhard nods. "Knock yourself out." Arma reaches out, taking grip of the katana. It was well made, The grip sturdy in his hand, yet light enough that the blade was easily maneuverable. He was about to take a swing when his legendary sword glowed, changing shape, before becoming a perfect copy of the katana, the gem now at the pommel of the sword. Erhard's eyes widen, before getting angry. "What the hell!? Are you trying to steal from me!?" Arma shakes his head, holding up a hand. "Of course not. This is a surprise even to me." He looks up as a window appeared in front of him, stating "Weapon copy complete. Steel Katana. +2 AGI. Trait: enduring steel." Arma raises an eyebrow, before setting the original katana back. "I do not expect this for free, Sir Erhard. I will pay the price of the original blade." He pulls out the bag of silver he got from the king, setting out six hundred silver coins as Naofumi watched, Before going to look at some weapons.
Erhard gives a smirk to Arma. "Well, aren't you an honest guy. If you pay for anything else, I'll let you do that to some other swords I got... You wouldn't happen to be the sword and shield heroes, would you?" Arma nods. "I am Arma. We just came from the castle." Naofumi yelps as a electric shock sparked from his hand as he tried to hold a dagger. "Are you kidding me? I'm stuck with just the shield?" Arma looks to Naofumi, before back to Erhard. "As you can see, Naofumi is the shield hero." Erhard nods. "... If you come back with some more time, i can take a look at those weapons of yours. I might be able to figure something out." Arma nods. "That would be greatly appreciated, Erhard." Myne comes up with her armor and a set of male chainmail. "I'd like to purchase these." Erhard nods as they settle on the money. "... Have I seen you before, Lass? You look familiar." Myne smiles. "No, I don't believe so."
Myne takes the chainmail to Naofumi, Her smile so sweet that to Arma, it was sickening. "... The other two... Heroes, might arrive soon. I trust you will keep an Eye out for if they try to copy your weapons and leave without paying." Erhard smirks. "You're pretty smart, kid. I'll keep an eye out... sounds like you don't like the other two." Arma stares ahead as he turned to the door. "... thus far, calling those two heroes is generous." He starts walking out as Naofumi started putting the chainmail over his clothes. Walking through the streets, Arma heard hushed whispers from the citizens, talking about the summoning of the heroes. He ignores them, now carrying his favored weapon of choice, Walking out of the gates of the city, into a large field of grass with a dirt road leading into the forested wilderness. Off of the path, Arma spotted several creatures that made him raise an eyebrow. They were ball shaped creatures with yellow eyes and jagged teeth, but... their skin looked as if they were made of rubber. Arma drew his sword. "So, these are the monsters that they spoke of..." He quickly rushed forward towards a dozen of the balloon creatures, grouped up together, He nimbly danced through the group of creatures, swinging his blade several times, slashing the creatures left an right. It took all of 3 seconds before Arma came to a stop at the other side of where the group of monsters were. All of them had been slain.
"Holy shit... how did you...?" Arma looks back to see that Naofumi had just come out of the city, wearing the chainmail Myne had given him, Myne also looking impressed. "That was amazing, Sir Arma." Arma looks at the dead creatures around him. "I have had much practice..." His eyes narrow towards myne, before seeing a window pop up in front of him, saying that he leveled up. "... Level up?" Naofumi shakes himself out of his shock. "It's a gauge of how much power you have. The higher the level, the more powerful you are. You gain levels by killing monsters, which give experience. the amount of experience you have determines what level you're at." Arma sighs. "It's as if this system was made for children." Naofumi chuckles. "Well, You apparently didn't grow up with this stuff. For me, this sort of stuff was just a hobby." Arma nods. "... I suppose we should get to slaying these creatures for the day. I will return to the city once dusk approaches." He Starts walking towards the forest, leaving Naofumi and Myne to start fighting the balloons.
Arma had been walking for about three hours, slaying balloons, hedgehog creatures with needle-like spines, And rabbits when he suddenly feels a familiar presence. "... I haven't felt this presence in over fifteen years..." He starts following it, Walking for another hour, before starting to climb a hill out of the forest, walking up to a small hut. He approaches carefully, before seeing that the door was unlocked. He opens it, stepping inside. the inside was lined with stone as a large fireplace blazed with fire, even though there was no wood inside, the stone scorched lightly from heat. Arma felt the familiar heat, before stopping at the fireplace. "... there's only one man I know with this mastery over flames..." A chuckle came from behind him. "Your mind hasn't gone awry, old friend." Arma turns around, Seeing a man sitting in a stone chair. The man had fairly tan skin, wearing a long, red robe that went all the way to the floor, long sleeves going down to thin, almost sickly looking hands. He had long, black hair flowing all the way down to the ground, His eyes burning a fiery orange. "It has been a long time, commander." Arma, for the first time since coming here, smiled lightly. "Indeed it has... Master of flame, Quema Tormenta."
Wow, that took longer than I thought it would to write, but it's finally done and I can get to work on more. School and work and all that stuff has really cut back on my time and when I do have time to write, I end up using it to play video games or relax a bit. I'm sorry that It took this long to put it out there, But here it is. So, Arma interacted with the heroes a bit more, and some things were revealed to him, along with getting his favored sword. Many people who have never played armed with wings will not recognize Quema, but he is NOT an OC. He's a character from the 2nd of the armed with wings flash games. Now, I hope you had fun reading and I will do my best to put out the next chapter and not take several months to do it. But here's what I want from you guys, I'd appreciate any constructive criticism you have for the story, And, If you do review, put if you want me to start using numbers for the stats and group descriptions instead of writing the number out as a word. I know it might be less professional, but I usually tend to prefer having straight up numbers rather than reading/writing out the whole word for a single number every time it comes up.
But, Until next time, this is NeroReborn. I'll see you all next time.
