Closure Part III
A/N: Thanks for sticking with me till the end on this one. Any feedback you would like to provide is appreciated.
Back in the living room, Lilly was still cleaning up the dishes left behind, so John picked Deacon up from the couch. The boy's blond head laid on his dad's shoulder.
"I'll meet you up there, I wanna get these plates and cups cleaned up" Lilly whispered to John as she rubbed Deacon's back. "He'll be bummed in the morning that he fell asleep before the game ended."
Lilly walked into Deacon's room to see John slipping the sleeping boy's pajama top over his head. To her surprise, for a guy that hadn't dressed a child in over twenty years, John was adept at dressing their son while he was sleeping.
"So, you gotta tell me, what was his pitch?" Lilly whispered, smiling as she turned on Deacon's nightlight.
"Lil, let me tell ya, it didn't take much convincing to get Nick and Will over here." John laughed
Lilly sat down beside Deacon, she raked her fingers through his hair making a mental note to have John give it a trim over the weekend, "Yeah, I didn't figure. I think he has those guys wrapped around his finger. I was trying to watch while he was in your office."
"Ya know, it was nice of you to invite Diane. I know she's kinda given you a run for your money." John covered Deacon with his comforter and leaned down and kissed his forehead.
Lilly did the same and followed John out the door
The couple headed back downstairs, "Aw, she's not so bad." Making no effort to pretend to be lying.
"Well, I think she got the closure she probably didn't want tonight. Hell, I might have gotten some closure myself, her seeing you and Deacon"
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Ya know, Lil, I want you to know you don't have to worry about her…or me for that matter. You and Deacon, you're all I need."
She leaned in and kissed John slowly, "Well, the good news for you is that I wasn't worried about you one bit."
Lilly pulled away from John and walked over to the couch, beckoning him to follow her. "Come here, Lieutenant Stillman, I'll give ya some closure"
The couple tenderly made love on the couch like they had all the time in the world. At that minute, it was like they were the only people on Earth that mattered. Crazed snipers and Diane Yates could wait until the morning.
