A/N: Hey everyone! It's me can you believe it? I never wanted to abandon this story but I honestly didn't know when I'd get the motivation and ideas to continue. LUCKILY I went and watched Birds of Prey and it got the creative juices flowing and I have some thoughts on how to continue. Not to mention there's going to be Suicide Squad 2! More Captain Boomerang goodness. Thank you all who still follow and favourite, I often get the occasional reminder that someone has added this story to their follows even this long after and it feels so nice! Ok, enough chatter. Are you ready? Here we go.

I felt numb, that kind of numb you feel when you've slept on your arm funny and have a mini panic attack fearing that you've lost all mobility and will never feel again. But just when I thought things couldn't get worse, they got, well batshit insane. Literally. Our vehicle came to a sudden screeching halt and I was almost thrown head first into the seat in front, thankfully Boomer had his arms around me to hold me in place.

"Wha' the fuck?" He breathed against my cheek.

"Eugh beer breathe, how do you manage it?" I made a face as it hit my nose and he pinched my hip playfully in response.

There was a loud thump and the car shook as something heavy landed on the hood and my hands clung onto his.

"Fucking bats!" Harley squealed from the passenger seat. Thats when the ominous figure that had landed so heroically on the hood of our getaway car finally registered in my brain as THE Batman. I hadn't even realized in my grief that the cop car we'd been pulled into also contained the Joker and Harley. Double fuck.

"Ya know doll, these friends of yours are proving more trouble then they're worth!" The Joker snarled, whipping the drivers side door open to face his longtime foe. Harley pouted but whatever she had thought about saying was cut off by immediate gunfire and that's when sirens started wailing, seemingly very close. I could barely follow the figure of Batman as he darted between the other cop cars that had been put to a stop as the Jokers goons poured out and began raining bullets. Harley began rummaging around in a duffel bag resting in the center console.

"Take this," she said sweetly, handing me a rather gaudy looking handgun. I hesitantly took it and stared blankly at Digger as she threw open her door and jumped out.

"What do we do?" I asked stunned. "Should...should we wait in here?"

Digger scratched his chin and sighed. "We were so close sheila. But-" he paused and looked out the window at the chaos unfolding. "We could use the distraction and make a run for it."

"And abandon everyone?!" I shook my head. "We could just as easily get shot too."

Before he could reply all Hell erupted around us and I heard the loud engines of helicopters above and saw heavily armed guards scaling down the buildings around us. Bright lights of cop cars that hadn't been corrupted could also be seen closing in. Batman really went all out. Without another thought I flung my door open and stepped out, Boomer muttering a curse and following me. I was startled from the noise and lights flashing in the dark around me as Harley appeared and gripped my shoulders. Her eyes were wide and high with adrenaline and her favourite baseball bat was already bloody.

"You guys! Whatcha standin' around for?! I had already convinced Puddin' to use his techie connections and diffuse that evil bitches neck bombs. Good thing too, he ain't takin' this rescue mission so well. Take my advice and take a hike."

"Oh you're a real gem, darl,' Captain tipped his imaginary hat at Harley.

"Don't let it get around, ruin my rep ya know. I still love a good head pop if ya know what I mean," she smiled.

"Where is everyone?" I asked, no sooner uttering the words before Deadshot and Diablo came running out from behind the car a feet few from us.

"Where's Croc?" Although I felt I already knew the answer.

"Booked it," Deadshot replied. "Down into the sewer. We should make a break too, before the Bat turns his sights on us. As much as I'd love to kill that mutha, I'd like to see my daughter again more."

"Oh, I think he'll be tied up with Mistah J for awhile if you know what I mean," Harley said with an exaggerated wink.

"No, I really don't know what that means," I answered shaking my head in bewilderment.

"You wiiiiiiill," she tittered before hoisting her bat. "Ta ta loves!"

I watched as she ran towards an approaching force of men, all carrying heavy artillery and I gulped. One of the Jokers goons wearing a horse head came running in and blasted the front line of men with a freakin' machine gun. They went down in a flurry of blood and Harley danced around giggling.

"Now or never love," Boomer said. "They're closing in."

"I can go back," I realized suddenly.

The Captain grit his teeth. "Wha' are you talkin' about?"

"I don't know for sure if my brother is dead, and I don't want to get into any more trouble. It's not worth it."

"It never is," Diablo agreed. "I'll go back with you, it's safer for me locked up anyway."

"You can't be serious," Boomer said, voice rising. "I ain't waitin' around anymore love. I'm not going back in."

"I'm sorry," I choked out. He had no idea how sorry I really was, but it was time to draw the line.

There was no time, no tender goodbyes or parting is such sweet sorrow. Digger turned and booked it, knocking out an approaching officer with a swing of his boomerang as he went. I felt the breath leave my lungs and tried to hold back tears.
Deadshot looked down on me and he hesitantly reached out to touch my shoulder but I stepped back.

"Let's go Diablo!" I shouted, shaking it off and the fire God was right on my heels as we raced back to Waller's hotel only a few blocks away. What I didn't expect was to see Deadshot appear at my side. I gave him a raise of my eyebrows in question.

He shrugged. "Flag is alright."

I smiled gratefully at him and he shook his head. "Must be outta my mind."

"You realize we're running right into a SWAT team right chica?" Diablo brought my mind back to reality and I realized that there really was no way of getting around the huge mass of officers filling the street. The Jokers goons were no match for the number of soldiers and cops flying in. I looked up and a helicopter not all that far from my right had the Batman and Joker dangling from it, the Joker having ripped off the Batmans cape and was hanging off it like a makeshift rope that he had tied around his legs.

"Wow, Harley wasn't kidding," I muttered.

"Weapons down!" An armed cop shouted as we faced the barrage of police and SWAT vehicles. I couldn't begin to count how many men had firearms trained on the three of us. I immediately dropped the gun Harley had given me before kicking it away. Looking over I saw Diablo with his hands already up and Deadshot reluctantly setting his gun down on the ground.

"I'm Colonel Rick Flags sister!" I yelled back. "He got shot and is in the building behind you. I need to see him."

The officer in front who had addressed us spoke into a walkie talkie on his shoulder and I patiently waited, my hands still stretched above my head. After a few moments he hesitantly lowered his gun a bit and nodded towards me.

"Alright, you come with me."

"All of us," I said sternly.

The man gave me a pained look. "Little girl you can't be serious."

"We'll be fine Mal," Diablo said softly. "Go see your hermano."

"Tell him he can't die yet, that's gonna be my job," Deadshot grinned.

"Thanks guys," I smiled at both of them as I stepped forward.

"You can put your hands down now," the officer remarked with a smirk as I got closer.

"Oh shit, sorry," I said sheepishly as I finally lowered my aching arms and the mass of soldiers parted to let me through. This officer was around the same age as my brother, with light hazel eyes and a strong jaw. He lowered his gun and I felt a tad more comfortable.

"I've worked with your brother a few times," he said walking beside me towards the hotel. I could see three ambulances parked outside and my heart rate sped up. "He's a good soldier."

"I noticed you didn't say was," I looked at him intently.

He gave me a half smile. "I didn't, did I?"

As if on cue, a stretcher was being wheeled out among the debris surrounding the hotel through a maze of rubble. The entire right wall of the building was basically missing entirely. I spotted June among the paramedics helping lift it out and immediately knew who was on it.

"Rick!" I screamed and raced forward, not caring about all the officers behind me.

June looked up and her face registered pure shock before her eyes started filling up with tears. The paramedics stopped outside one of the ambulances and I ran up to the stretcher where I finally saw my brother. I gasped as I saw the extent of the damage. So much blood, and bandages compressed around his chest. His face was sweaty and smeared with dirt and his eyes were half lidded. For a moment I didn't think he was actually conscious until suddenly he seemed to finally focus on my face.

"You look terrible," he said softly.

"Is that the best you can come up with?" I laughed.

"You came back," he looked at me confused and June reached over and grabbed my hand.

"Not just me. Diablo and Deadshot chose not to leave. You're not allowed to die yet apparently."

June gave me a sad look and I knew she had picked up on the one name I didn't say and what that must mean. I swallowed hard.

"He's going to be okay," she said calmly. I was about to reply that he could go fuck himself when she added "The bullet missed any vital organs."

Right, yeah of course she was referring to my brother. Who cared if the Captain was alright? Not me, nope.

"You're a lucky bastard," I sobbed, finally feeling the rush of emotion. June wrapped her arms around me and I couldn't have been more thankful in that moment.

"Tears for me? This is going in my diary," Rick chuckled.

"I'm so going to beat the shit out of you once you're healed," I said through my tears.

"Waller is pissed," June said quietly. "She didn't want Batman interfering. I think she was hoping you could convince the others to turn on Harley and bring in the Joker themselves. Would have made her look pretty good to the higher ups."

"Well her plan failed miserably, " I muttered. God I hated that woman. "Always somehow gone during the action too."

"I'm just glad you made it out okay," Rick said while reaching out to take my hand. I looked down at my big brother and felt my heart grow two sizes in that moment, I swear. I squeezed his hand and sighed.

"Am I going to be in trouble? I mean, with Waller?"

"Whatever happens, we'll handle it together," June replied confidently. "But technically you did bring back two from the team."

"Not to turn them in," I said. "It's not fair."

"Let's not think about the worst right now. The doom and gloom. Let's focus on the positives. Once your brother is given the all clear we can finally leave this city and head back to our comfortable little apartment." June wrapped her arm around me and smiled.

"Are you sure you were an evil witch at some point? Cause I'm getting more of a Glinda vibe from you honestly." I grinned. The doctor rolled her eyes and we stepped aside to let the paramedics lift the stretcher holding my brother into the back of the ambulance. As we climbed in to join him we sat in comfortable silence and listened as all the chaos seemed to fade. Had Batman successfully captured the Joker? Or had he escaped yet again? Also, would the Batman finally learn that capes really aren't a good idea? Probably not.
As I was pondering my hands searched through my cross body bag looking for a hair tie. Instead my hands came into contact with something soft and plush. Immediately my heart dropped and I stared at the face of the pink little unicorn head peeking out from my bag. I shook my head with a slight smile and patted Pinky's head.

"Well," I said finally looking to June. "There's no place like home."

A/N: Phew ok, whirlwind right? I'm sorry this chapter is a tad short, I'm still trying to get back into the groove and figuring out where I'm going next. But do not fret, the Captain most definitely will be back! ;)
