KC Undercover Cali Style:

I don't own KC Undercover or NCIS: Los Angeles. I just wanted to get this prompt that has been in my head for several months on paper. It is sort of a weird idea so I will be happy if anyone reads it. I have only seen the entirety of seasons one through four in NCIS: Los Angeles and smatterings of the next eight seasons.

Backstory:

KC spent many years in The Organization. She eventually became the person that trained new agents. One of her favorite lessons to teach to her students was that of good and bad. She loved to explain to her students how we all have some darkness inside and it's our choices that decide who we are. KC wanted her students to understand how urgent she thought this was. On one occasion she said "Life is a wonderful thing. Our choices define it. Some people make the wrong choices. Sometimes they make them because they feel like they have to. Pretty soon that person might be doing something that they don't really want. That person could easily be you or me. I knew someone who made the right decision at the wrong time, and I lost him forever. It could mean the difference between life and death.

KC was distraught. She wished that she could have Brett back. She knew that she wasn't supposed to want him, but she did. Every guy she dated was nice, but they weren't allowed to understand the life she lived and that took a toll on her mentally. In college she started writing journal entries:

Dear Brett… She would then write about her day, how she was feeling, what she thought he would have told her. The last one tended to help her a lot. His words would come into her head and allow her to relax when she was in some of her biggest funks.

KC never really talked about it with Marisa. Marisa was her best friend, but she didn't want her to know that she was miserable without Brett. Marisa finished fashion school, became a successful business woman, got married, and had kids before KC. KC didn't want to be jealous. She wanted to be happy for her best friend, however she needed to get away.

KC Cooper decided that she needed to get out. She dropped out of The Organization and was eventually rerouted to the NCIS Los Angeles field office as a CIA liaison. The Organization had affiliation to the CIA already, so it made for a good cover.

At first, Callen didn't trust her because he hadn't heard of her ever before and he had been from the CIA, but she was able to gain her trust over time. Sam warmed up to her a little bit more quickly because she was a very by the book person most of the time. KC still broke the rules, but as always did it when it was most pertinent. Hanging out in a new place with new people made her feel really good and she really liked being able to talk through things with Kensi. There were romances going on obviously, but KC was happy where she was learning more about the people and although it made her sad to see such happy couples, it wasn't her place to judge.

KC's POV:

"Happy Valentines Day everybody!" Nell yelled.

"What did Beale getcha?" Marty prompted.

"Flowers and chocolates in the shape of rubiks cubes. "Eric said as he handed the bag over to Nell.

"What about you two love birds?" I ask Kensi and Deeks.

"We're going to a nice dinner downtown. Italian. I can't wait to get the cannoli." Kensi gushed.

"Good for you guys." I speak.

"What about you? Any special plans?" Sam asks.

"Uh…no. I don't really…I don't go on dates on Valentine's day or…really ever. Um…can we change the subject." I nervously chuckled at the end. Everyone looked at me like I had grown three heads. Kensi seemingly the most confused of all.

Later she asked about it. "When was the last time you went on a date?"

"College. It was complicated."

"Why haven't you gone on a date since?"

"You know why! We're government agents. Our lives have been consumed by the work that we do in order to save lives here on Earth. We don't get to have all the time in the world to go to the movies or create a real connection outside of work. Deeks and you work partially because you work together. He understands the hardships that come with this job!" I yelled only to turn around to see the rest of the team looking at me.

"Get out of my way. I have work to do." I say as I walked down the stairs.

"What was that? I have never seen her so irked." I hear Deeks say.

About Two Years Later…

Callen's POV:

We are working on a case involving stolen NAVY weapons and international spies when we stumble across a man sneaking around a potential drop site for the weapons. Sam and I take him in. He seemed a more nervous than I would have expected. The guy seemed like the kind who would break the rules and sport a smirk too.

Once we got him in the boat shed, I started asking questions. He was pleading innocent to collaboration with the spies. I couldn't tell if he was lying or not. He was really good.

I turn to Sam. "We should go get KC. This isn't working."

"KC? KC Cooper?" The man asked. Sam and I looked at him in shock. He'd given us Canadian papers for one Gorky Finktor. How could he possibly know KC?

KC's POV:

I am hanging out with Eric, and Nell when Hetty walks in to tell us that Sam and Callen have a suspect, or at least someone that they found at the scene that seemed suspicious to them. She didn't seem to understand exactly what had happened. All she asked was that I head down to the boat shed. Kensi and Deeks were on their way.

I walked into the boat shed to be greeted by Kensi, Deeks, Callen, and Sam sitting at the table looking up at the camera at a man.

My heart stopped. A handsome Asian man with broad shoulders sat in the chair. Sitting there was Brett Willis. My ex-boyfriend. The love of my life. "Brett!"

Before I could think I ran towards the room. Just before I closed the door I heard Deeks yell "KC, wha-?"

I grab Brett by the arm and start dragging him out of the room. I couldn't help it. I just started whaling on him and he was letting me. I moved to flip him.

Deek's POV:

KC had walked into the room and the shock on her face was evident. At first, it had seemed like she was happy to see the man and she ran towards him. The name Brett tore out of her vocal cords with so much emotion I didn't know how to react. Before I could even finish my sentence, she had gotten herself in the room with him and was taking him out.

Now, she's beating the guy to a pulp, and he isn't fighting back. It is evident that he had a feeling this would happen if she saw him again. As she moved to flip him, he took her wrists in his hands.

"KC, that's enough. Breathe please."

She just started crying. I had never seen her cry. Never seen her crack. I didn't know what was happening. KC got passionate on cases, but I never saw her get worked up in this way. Who is this guy?

Brett slowly began to lower her to the ground in a half hug while she was still sobbing. "Wha—why aren't you in—in—in Canada? Why aren't you—you—safe? What are you doing here?" She just started repeating that like a broken record.

"Babe, nobody is trying to kill me anymore." Babe?

"That's because nobody has known to look for you in like fifteen years!" KC responds.

"Whatever."

KC rolls her eyes. "I'm just saying it's dangerous to be here even for you Danger."

"Wait, you two dated?" I ask.

"Yeah, technically he was my first partner in law enforcement."

"But instead of enforcing it I ended up running from it." He spoke.

"It was like Padme and Anakin except minus the awkward age difference and plus a little more flannel." I spoke.

"Yeah, does she still think that she looks like gold in flannel?"

Kensi looked at KC weirdly.

"I love flannel okay! Not really the point. He made a bad choice a long time ago and I helped him get out of it because I love him, and he did what he could to keep me safe. He was pressured by his father to do something that he shouldn't have, and he saved me enough times that I wanted to have his back. My family smuggled him into Canada when I was sixteen under my brother's name."

"You have a brother named Gorky?" Kensi asked.

"No, but one of the code names the KC used for an undercover operation early on was Gorky so I thought it would be funny. I changed it years later because it made me think of her."

"And the other nickname for you was Danger?" I ask.

"Actually, his parents are crazy people, and his middle name really is Danger."

"However, I would argue that she is the danger one." He speaks.

"How do you figure that?"

"She surfed on my vehicle while I was driving sixty miles once so that she could jump onto the car next to us and climb inside. That crazy enough for you?" Brett prompted as he swung his arm over KC's shoulder."

We all looked at them in shock. We sure could learn a lot more about KC. I can tell that she loves him, and I want to understand her more because of it.

The End.
