Aang tried to pay attention to the official.
Really, he was!
But there were several … complications. The first was that the official had a very dull, monotonous voice, and while Aang has survived through enough meetings in his youth to bear getting through them, it didn't mean it got any easier. For another, all his friends were laughing at him.
Oh, and Katara was currently clinging to his left arm rather possessively.
Seriously, it was very distracting to have your girlfriend's arms wrapped around your own and feel her mouth pressed up against your shoulder.
As the official droned on and on in the background, Aang turned towards Katara, amused. "You know you can let go, right?"
Katara blinked up at him rather innocently with her big blue eyes. Oh spirits, Aang knew he was doomed the moment she turned those eyes on him. "Oh, I know," she said serenely, voice muffled by the fabric of his robes. "I just don't want to."
Well, what else could he say? If he tried to pry her off — by force, might he add — he was more likely to be pinned to the wall by ice shards than not, and he'd rather not be skewered through by an angry girlfriend.
And maybe — just maybe — he was also enjoying this.
Maybe.
Just a little.
But still, it didn't take away the fact that the speaker was still speaking — and no matter how trivial the matter probably was (and, more often than not, it was), he should probably pay attention, being the Avatar and all.
So he sighed, steeled himself, and tried again. "Well, it's just— I really feel like we should be paying attention to the speaker right now."
Katara only peered up at him with soulful blue eyes. Dang it, he could feel his insides turn to mush when she turned that gaze on him. "I'm paying attention," she said in a matter-of-fact way.
Aang fidgeted slightly. He didn't doubt his face was at least a little bit red at this point. "Well, I'm not," he confessed in a low, hurried whisper. "It's kind of distracting, and while I appreciate you're here with me, you don't have to—" Then he caught sight of a devilish grin curling on Katara's face.
Oh no.
"I'm … distracting, you say?" she said slowly, one of her eyebrows creeping up.
Oh noooooo.
And that was how Aang spent the rest of the meeting with Katara cuddling his arm like a pentapus and looking rather helpless about it.
