AN: Here I am folks, attempting once again to enter the Fire Emblem category. This time, I've decided to take a different approach. For starters, I've decided to write a chapter story this time around, as I feel like that would be a better way to try and enter this fandom with a bang. Secondly, Byleth is teaching a different house for this story, and will teach that same house in every other story following this one. In my previous attempts to write for Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Byleth was teaching the Black Eagle house, the route I chose when I first played Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Initially, the Black Eagle house was my go-to house for the game, but after deciding to choose a different house for my second playthrough of the game, I chose the Golden Deer and, well, I guess I sort of had a change of heart. I still like the Black Eagles and its members, but the Golden Deer house is full of all kinds of interesting and appealing students, especially their leader, Claude, and I guess they sorta grew on me more than I thought they would. It wasn't an easy decision, but I think maybe the Golden Deer house is the right one for me. While playing as the professor of the Deer, I recruited Bernadetta and Petra from the Black Eagles and Mercedes from the Blue Lions into my house, which serves as the basis for the plot of this story. As a result in this change of heart, my last attempt at entering this fandom, the story "From Lion To Eagle," has been deleted due to my desire for a fresh new start with this category. Anywho, now that all that's out of the way, let's get this story started.
One evening in Garreg Mach Monastery, after spending her free day taking part in events such as fishing, gardening, and sharing meals, the professor of the Golden Deer house, Byleth, was making her way back to her quarters, when she heard someone's voice call out to her.
"Hey, kid", the voice said.
Byleth turned around and saw her father, Jeralt, walking towards her.
"There you are", Jeralt said, "where are you off to?"
"Oh, hi, Dad", Byleth said, "I was just headed back to my room for the night."
"Already", Jeralt asked, "it's not that late."
"I know, but I've had a busy day", Byleth said, "there's so much to do in the Monastery when I'm not teaching my students."
"You don't say", Jeralt said, "well, have you at least eaten dinner yet?"
"No, I haven't", Byleth said.
"Well, how about we go get something in the dining hall before it gets crowded", Jeralt said.
"Sure, why not", Byleth said.
Byleth went with Jeralt to the dining hall, and soon, the two were feasting on a lovely dish of two-fish sauté.
"Mmm", Byleth said, "this is good."
"Yeah", Jeralt said, "reminds me of those feasts we'd have in all those villages after helping the people who lived in them."
"Oh, yeah", Byleth said, "those were good times."
Byleth and Jeralt continued eating, and the latter decided to bring something up.
"Hey, kid", Jeralt said.
"Yes", Byleth asked.
"How are those brats you're teaching doing", Jeralt asked, "they're not giving you trouble, are they?"
"No, not at all", Byleth said, "in fact, I actually enjoy being around them."
"I'm not surprised", Jeralt said, "those students of yours have really made their mark on you."
"What do you mean", Byleth asked.
"Well, you've changed a lot since you became a professor here at the Monastery", Jeralt said, "you've started showing your emotions more."
"I guess so", Byleth said, "it must be because of my students in the Golden Deer."
"There are a lot of nice kids in that house", Jeralt said.
"Yeah", Byleth said, "in fact, we recently gained three new ones."
"You did", Jeralt asked.
"Yes, from the other houses", Byleth said, "when I talked to them, they each asked me if I could add them to my class, so I let them join us."
"Wow", Jeralt said, "you must be popular with the students outside your house."
"It wasn't because of popularity", Byleth said, "they just noticed that I had expertise in certain areas and wanted the opportunity to learn from me."
"Ah, I see", Jeralt said, "so, who are these new students of yours, anyways?"
"I've got their profiles right here", Byleth said, "I'll show you."
Byleth set some papers on the table that contained information about the three new students and then showed him the first one.
"This one is Bernadetta von Varley from the Black Eagle house", Byleth said, "she's a bit of a recluse who usually shuts herself in her room when it's not class time, but once you bond with her and get her to open up, it turns out she's actually a very kind and gentle person."
Byleth then moved on to the next new student she had recruited.
"This is Petra Macneary, also from the Black Eagle house", Byleth said, "she's the granddaughter of the king of Brigid, and her English isn't perfect, but she's a determined student who always shows enthusiasm when it comes to learning new things."
Byleth then showed Jeralt the last student she recruited into the Golden Deer.
"This is Mercedes von Martritz from the Blue Lion house", Byleth said, "she's very religious, and she always tries to help those in need, which makes her one of the nicest persons I've ever know."
"Wow", Jeralt said, "these sound like some pretty good kids to have in your class."
"Yes", Byleth said, "of course, their transitions from their former houses to the Golden Deer house weren't exactly smooth."
"What do you mean", Jeralt asked.
"Well, when they first joined our house, they each encountered some kind of problem with being in the new class", Byleth said.
"What kind of problems", Jeralt asked.
"Well, for Bernadetta, she wasn't comfortable with being in a class that had three students who come from commoner families", Byleth said.
"Ah, I get it", Jeralt said, "kids of noble birth don't like being around lower class students."
"Actually, it was because of something other than social standing", Byleth said, "here's what happened."
