Ben sat beside Miranda on the plane. He was anxious to see how this operation would play out and what was in store for them
"So do you just work with Narcotics." Miranda asked looking over at him.
"We do just about anything. We have cases that are home invasions, sexual assault, domestic abuse, homicide, suicide, burglary and ect." Ben explained.
"Why this field?" Miranda asked intently.
"Uh I think the field chose me." Ben answered and Miranda raised her eyebrow.
"One I have a lot of adrenaline and this helps versus having to sit in a chair and put people to sleep all day long. 2 I love mysteries and always have. 3, one of my cousins were kidnapped and my auntie was crushed. I wouldn't stop until we found her and the captain of Seattle police Department. Which is still my captain ask me to consider joining after training." Ben told her and Miranda nodded.
After the plane ride they took a taxi to their house and they pulled up just as the movers arrived.
"Hi." Miranda greeted the movers as Ben held his hand out for her to get out of the taxi.
"Hi ma'am. Me and my co-worker will move everything inside for you. It was an easy ride and everything looks to be in be tack."
"Thank you so much." Miranda responded as she shook his hand.
Miranda followed Ben inside and she looked around. Dam it was nice. They walked around touring and the pictures didn't do it justice. It was a Spacious, Traditional Home in a Quiet neighborhood. The Home Featured a Eat-In Kitchen, Formal Dining Room, large master bedroom with spacious master bath and His & Her's Walk-In Closets. A room over the garage that Could be a 5th bedroom, office or Man Cave. The back yard had Large deck and an in ground pool which would be great for entertaining.
The undercover couple spent the day unpacking, decorating and making their new designated house homey.
"Our cars are being delivered with In the hour and if you feel up to it. We could ride to the store and do a little grocery shopping."
"That's sounds great." Miranda voiced as she sat on the couch to rest a little.
"Which car do you want to take?"
"we better take the Audi Q7 since it's a Suv and we can have more room for groceries to fill this whole house." Miranda said as she walked with him to the car.
The pair spent over an hour getting food.
"I think we got enough for a whole army." Miranda joked.
"Yeah ad least we won't have to go shopping for a while." Ben replied.
"So Mr. Husband what are you cooking for dinner tonight?" Miranda asked bating her eyelashes.
Ben looked over at her and back to the road as he swallowed hard. He was starting to like her using the word husband.
"Uh I'm thinking about steaks, bake potatoes and a toss salad. Dose that sound appetizing my dear wife."
"Yeah it dose." Miranda answered licking her lips.
Miranda put the groceries away as Ben got started cooking their dinner.
At the dinner table. They sat across from each other eating. "Tell me about yourself." Ben said and Miranda blew out a breath. "I wouldn't even know where to start."
"At the beginning." Ben filled in.
"Um I grew up as a nerd. In High-school I wore a mushroom cut with coke bottle glasses and I played the oboe."
"The Oboe?" Ben questioned.
"Yeah, don't laugh."
"I wasn't going to laugh. It's actually pretty amazing. I could never picture you as a nerd but I bet you were so cute." Ben smiled making Miranda blush.
"Anyway I went to Wellesley on a full ride. I got married freshman year."
Ben raised his eyebrow. "Yup happily married for 10, married for 12 got separated year 11." Miranda informed. "Long story short. 10 years later he wanted me to be something I couldn't. My job over him. I chose my job and we divorced. Do I regret it? Sometimes but I'm very grateful for my son. I just hate that I wasted my time like I gave that man all my youth. My good years." Miranda huffed.
"You still have good years Miranda. The rest of your life is considered good years." Ben insisted.
"I guess you are right." Miranda admitted. After dinner Miranda cleaned up before she walked into her room. She chose the guest room and told Ben to take the master bedroom.
She slid into bed and read a little bit of her new book before falling asleep.
The next morning Miranda and Ben pulled up to UCLA Medical Center. "Are you nervous?" Ben asked.
"Of course I'm nervous. This is a hospital with criminals and I have to try to get in with them." Miranda answered sarcastically.
"You're going to be great and do great today. Just go and be you. Lead and show them how amazing you are. You can do that effortlessly." Ben encouraged her as he rubbed her shoulders.
"Thank you. Okay. If I don't see you at lunch I will see you later tonight when it's time to leave." Miranda said as she nodded her head telling herself to relax.
The two of them walked into the hospital. Miranda followed the direction to the attending's lounge and she changed into her grey scrubs.
She was honestly lonely. The only person she knew was Ben and she missed her co-workers back home.
Miranda saw her interns waiting for her by the nurses station.
"Good to see that you all read my email and follow instructions." Miranda said sternly as she looked at each of them.
Miranda looked at her pager as it went off. "This is your first day as well as mine. When I move you move, follow my every instructions. Try not to kill anyone and do not embarrass me. Come on a 6 car pile up in the pit." Miranda barked orders as she walked into the direction of the emergency room.
When they got to the pit it was almost as if they had stepped into madness. Nurses, doctors, emts, and people were everywhere, bustling around like worker bees.
" You three go asses and assist. Any need for surgery come get me.
"You two today will be your first time talking to patients families. This is where your patient care and sensitivity skills are needed. You need to be precise and straight to the point but also sensitive.
Be kind, sympathetic, empathic, listen to the patient and the family, try to address their concerns, answer their questions. We won't tell them there is no hope at all, since hope keeps people going, but giving false hope is wrong, so we won't say you have so and so long to live, since we won't be able to predict that, but we won't say that the illness can be fixed unless we are for sure.
Be mindful of nonverbal cues. Body language and tone of voice are just as important as words. if someone is dead and gone never ever say they are in the upper room and ect. Do you understand?" Miranda asked handing them a tablet and walked them in that direction before she turned in back into the direction of the pit.
Miranda looked at the trauma room and how many beds were in it. "Why are there so many beds in here with people. Trauma is for emergent." Miranda asked loudly looking at all the doctors.
This would have never happened at Grey Sloan. "It wasn't enough room for all this. Clutter, not enough utensils, too much chatter, distractions lead to mistakes, mistakes lead to death." Miranda yelled.
"Him what's wrong with him." Miranda asked a resident.
Miranda clicked her teeth and walked over to him. She put gloves on and touched his stomach.
"Hey the other bed. He appears to not be emergent. Asses him in the regular beds. Out of the trauma now. " Miranda yelled.
"Sir, I'm going to take a look."
"He was throwing up blood." The resident said and Miranda nodded.
"Hand me the portable ultrasound."
Miranda moved around on his stomach. " John you have a perforation- a hole- somewhere in your bowel and we are going to have to take you up to surgery." Miranda informed.
"Please tell Carrie I'm sorry. Tell her that I didn't mean to hit her car. Just please make sure she is okay."
"Okay we will but now it's time to take care of you." Miranda said as they put the bars up to wheel him out.
Miranda told the residents to prep him for surgery and she walked up stairs to get to o.r. 3.
She worked on the man and sent him to the recovery wing.
The E.R calmed down and Miranda went to the cafeteria. She grabbed a fried chicken salad, some fruit and a water before sitting at a table by herself.
Miranda prayed over her food before she began to eat.
"Hi." Two women said walking up to her.
"Hello." Miranda said looking at them.
"I'm Carlie cardio and this is Emily neuro and we heard you are the new chief of general." The woman said.
"Yes I am and my name is Miranda Bailey. It's very nice meeting you." Miranda smiled. "Here have a seat." Miranda offered and watched as they sat there food down.
"So do you like it here?"
"Yes, it's much more busy than Oregon but I'm adjusting well." Miranda answered.
"That's good. We saw you whip the emergency room into shape and the interns haven't screwed up so much like they normally would on the first day."
Miranda laughed. "Well back home I am known for whipping things into shape and getting interns and residents in line. We shouldn't have too many problems with them." Miranda said as a matter of factly
"I like you." Carlie laughed "you are a breath of fresh air." She added.
"Well thank you."
"Did you all hear about the new anesthesiologist. He was in a surgery with me and he was really cute."
"Yeah I heard the nurse talking about him earlier and they said the same thing."
Miranda blushed as they talked about Ben.
"What's that look?" Emily asked.
"If it's only one new anesthesiologist. Then I'm pretty sure everyone Is talking about my husband." Miranda mused.
" aww that's your hunk?" Emily asked.
"So you're married. This is exciting we are too. You would be a good candidate for the doctors wives club."
"What's that." Miranda asked curiously but also suspiciously.
"It's a group of us married women who work here. We meet twice a month for outings and just to have fun. Our husband's tag along and we do like a big group dates and things like that."
"Oh that's sounds lovely and I'm sure my husband would love that as well. We don't really know people here so that gives us a chance to make friends." Miranda said and they nodded.
They woman continued to talk and Miranda found that they were actually really nice. She noticed that Carlie seemed to be more like the leader of the friendship group they had and Miranda didn't care for that too much. Everyone is there own person and she didn't bow to anyone.
Later that evening Ben met Miranda in the lobby.
"So you have been the rave of the hospital." Miranda said as he grabbed her hand.
"Huh?" Ben questioned as he opened the door for her.
"Did you all hear about the cute new anesthesiologist. He can put me to sleep any time" Miranda mocked.
"Really?" Ben laughed.
"Yes really. Ridiculous." Miranda replied but it was the truth he was insanely handsome, killer smile and a great personality.
"Well if you think people were talking about me. You should hear the people who talked about you. I even had to check a man about you." Ben commented.
"What? Well what did he say?" Miranda asked curiously.
"The new head of general surgery has a banging body and a nice ass and I kindly told him that woman with the banging body is my wife and don't refer to her in that manner ever again." Ben said sternly.
" wow...I actually like this facility though. I had to get the emergency room in order but it's nice and I met two women too. " Miranda told him.
"Look at you making friends." Ben teased opening the car door.
"I think the woman Carlie is apart of the group we are looking into though." Miranda said quietly as she got into the car.
"How so?" Ben questioned as he got inside.
"After I told her I was married. She offered me to join the doctors wives club. You know how Esposito feels about marriage. So I figured that was a sign. Tomorrow I'll make sure to ask her what does her husband do."
"That's good did you get her name? I can get in contact with the detectives tomorrow to do a back ground check and dig dirt on her. Once you all have an outing maybe we can host a barbecue to have all of them over to see what they are about." Ben stated and Miranda nodded.
"Are you cooking tonight?" Miranda asked.
"I cooked last night. It's your go." Ben laughed.
"Well aren't you the head of the house hold."
"What does that have to do with cooking. Here we can stop at the Apple bees and go inside." Ben suggested.
"Okay fine with me."
