WELCOME TO CHAPTER 3 GUYS OwO

-

Chapter 3: Fellowship of the gnomes. (Part 1)

Shmebulock looked upon the setting sun, and sighed as darkness filled the forest.

A small chill went down the gnome's spine, a small but very noticeable one.

The gnome looked around him, knowing the feeling he had.

He was being watched.

But by what?

By Whom?

A thud came from behind the gnome, and he turned around in fear.

As if there was a storm, thunderstruck, lighting up the form.

Dark armor, wings made of metal.

A creature one might call mechanical.

But they were very much alive.

"You are trespassing on our land… leave or I will kill you." the figure said, a deep voice as old as time itself.

Shmebulock knelt before the creature, with no intention of leaving.

"Shmebulock." the gnome said, hoping the creature could understand him.

And hopefully break the curse.

"Hmm… what do you have in return for our services…" the creature said after a few seconds.

"Shmebulock!" the gnome said, pulling a scroll from his back pocket.

It was a small scroll, even for a gnome.

But the creature could clearly identify the symbol on it.

"... follow me…" the creature said, turning its back on the gnome.

"And do not deviate from my path… unless necessary."

Shmebulock stood, partially glad he wasn't killed right off the bat.

And was terrified of the forest he was about to enter.

The darkest parts… where the guardians keep the beasts from escaping…

Though a few do escape… and the gnomes had seen what the guardians can do..

Shmebulock knows why every creature in the forest fears them.

He was surprised the humans in the town haven't seen them… but they are not too noticeable in the highest and thickest parts of the trees.

Effective camouflage from those who did not need to know their presence..

And to sneak up on prey.

"Your curse is gone, now leave gnome… be free to speak once more." the guardian said, shmebulock cleared his throat, and nodded and ran as fast as he could out of the forest.

He had already paid the information to the guardians.

Checked twenty hundred times before giving it to them.

He did not want to say a single lie to them.. Their wrath is not one to easily take.

Especially the fact they would kill any witnesses

"I have to warn them…" shmebulock said, so long since he was able to use the fullest of his voice… he still had the one day of being able to speak normally.

But now it is gone forever.

Mabel and Dipper sighed in unison.

Bored out of their minds.

"Maybe we can…. Never mind we did that already…" Mabel said, laying down and staring into the morning sky.

"Maybe we should go checkout where that lightning from last night came from? It was a clear sky last night." Dipper asked, Mabel shook her head.

"I don't wanna… i'm too hot…" she said, fanning herself.

"You got the last part right…" melody said, coming over with a pair of glasses of water.

"I'm surprised no boy has made a move on you yet." she said, causing Dipper to lightly blush.

"HA those weaklings…. Nah… I already have my sights on my next target!" Mabel said, Dipper groaned.

He knew exactly who and Wendy teased about him as well.

"Jack huh? He's… not bad." melody said, surprised as well, and holding a little chuckle.

Dipper knew all about jacks… Well, an interesting life.

Living in Montana for a while before he moved here 3 days after the twins first summer.

His family moved away but Jack stayed.

He also had a small cabin near the corduroys… not exactly too close but enough to call him a neighbor.

All of this from bribing Wendy with a hundred and twenty three cents.

All of which Mabel paid for.

"Yeah… so?" Mabel said, completely oblivious to Jack's attitude to love.

He outright rejects it.

"You know he's not into you right?" Dipper said.

Mabel looked like an arrow went into her heart.

"You.. cold bastard…. I'LL MAKE HIM LOVE ME!" Mabel said, running off.

Dipper chuckled and shook his head.

"Some people never change…" he said, melody nodded.

A crash came from the mystery shack behind them, the two looked back to see soos peeking from the window.

"Uh… don't mind me… handyman problem…" soos said, before ducking down and a small motivational speech came in an easily heard whisper.

"Very true." melody said, smiling.

"Welp… i guess ill go chase my sister for the better part of the day…" he said, melody laughed.

"Good luck… fast as a cheetah and the stamina of a wolf!" she said, dipper only smiled.

It was true…

But he could never see himself repeating that to anyone.

"Keys…. Wallet… knife…" Jack said, going through a backpack.

"All here…"

Jack zipped up his backpack and moved towards his cabin door.

As he opened it a small creature stood in his way.

"Are you mason pines?" the gnome asked.

Jack looked around.

"Uh no… but I know where he lives at the moment…" he said, the gnome nodded.

"May I ask something?" the gnome said.

"Yeah…"

"Is that Gulliver's travels?" the gnome said, pointing into the small shack.

Sure enough, a laid out book on Jack's desk said Gulliver's travels…

Among 18 other books ontop or around it.

"Yes and it's not yours!" Jack said, picking up the gnome and closing his door.

"UNHAND ME!" the gnome said.

"Eh no…. You want to know where the pines live or not?" Jack said, the gnome thought for a second and sighed.

"At least put me on your shoulder."

Jack laughed.

"Nah.. ride in the bag or be carried by hand."

"... fine bag." the gnome said, jack opened the zipper with one hand before chucking the creature into it.

"WATCH IT! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHO I AM?" the gnome cried.

"Does it look like I care?!" Jack answered back.

In which the gnome became quiet.

"Get comfy in there… it's a good 15 minutes away." he said, the gnome said nothing.

Jack hopped onto his bike and petaled as fast as he could.

The faster he gets this thing to the twins the faster he gets to work and doesn't get scolded by melody.

After three hours of chasing Mabel she finally went back to the shack and hid behind the counter.

"What is she doing?" Wendy asked, after coming in to be partially scared by her.

"Waiting for jack…" Dipper replied.

"Why?"

"You know why."

"Ohhh right… that's not gonna be pretty." wendy said, frowning.

"Why? Other than Mabel bawling after he rejects her?"

"I… didn't want to tell you…. But there's a reason he put off love." Wendy said, walking over and pulling Mabel out.

"Lemmie go!" she cried.

"Listen you idiot… he WILL reject you…" Wendy said, before clearing her throat.

"He… doesn't want love okay? Let's just leave it at that." Wendy said.

"But." Mabel squeaked.

"No bugging him!" Wendy said, just as the front door opened.

"Bug who?" Jack said, stepping in.

"Uh… dipper! Yeah dipper! She was bugging him so I told her to stop…" Wendy said, rather hesitant.

"Uh…. is that the kettle? I'll be back!" Wendy said, leaving in a rush.

Jack watched her as she went out the back door and ran away.

"Okay… what did she actually say?" he asked.

"Something about you doesn't want love?" Mabel chirped, Dipper shrugged when Jack looked at him.

"Yeah I don't want it and also! You got a visitor or friend… I don't know if he's FREAKING annoying!" Jack said, pulling the gnome by the scruff out of his bag.

"Put me DOWN human!" the gnome said, jack did just that.

"Get done with him before the shop opens please… my part of the job is to keep the front room and exhibits free of… well forest creatures." Jack said, before bolting out the door and running the exact way Wendy went.

The twins can partially hear Jack yell out at her.

"You really like him huh?" Dipper said with a smirk.

"Everyone gets angry at times dippin-dots!" Mabel said, staring out the window in awe.

"Is she okay in the head?" the gnome asked, Dipper went to say something but Mabel glared at him.

"Uh… yeah definitely…."

"You mason pines?" the gnome said.

"Uh.. it's actually Dipper but yes." dipper said.

The gnome climbed up to the top of the counter.

"I need to warn you… there's terrible monsters deep in the woods… dont go past the marked border okay?" the gnome said.

"What? So youre saying the elves are terrible monsters?" Mabel said.

"Nononononono those guys are just annoying… im talking about the real monsters…. The ones you haven't seen… the shapeshifters just one of their kind… you think a magical forest does not have a dark side to it?" the gnome said.

"Wait… who even are you?" Mabel asked, poking the gnome.

"I am Shmebulysses Q. Locke III, also known as Shmebulock…" the gnome said with a bow.

"Wait… weren't you the one who could only say their name?" Dipper asked, surprised.

"Well yes… but last night i got the curse finally broken… but I must warn you! The forest isn't like it was when you first came here! The guardians are dying out… only a few of them remain but even less nowadays…" he said.
"Guardians… wasnt that the creature that took out the spider two days ago?" Dipper asked, Mabel nodded.

"You've… heard of them? Much less SEEN ONE AND LIVED?" the gnome exclaimed.

"Yeah… why?"

"Those… things aren't like the rest of us… those things kill anything, eat anything, and if you even think about crossing their border they will know. They are… what you humans call angels… quite literally beings of god sent to punish evil." the gnome said.

"How do we know you're not lying?"

"The guardians are supposed to keep creatures like that spider locked away deep in the forest, far from where they can cause harm."

"Wait.. you said they kill right?" Mabel asked, the gnome nodded.

"Then why didn't they kill us then?"

"You lived for any other reason than others who saw them live… they spared you because your heart was pure!" the gnome said.

"They are angels then huh? Why aren't they white and shiny?"

The gnome chuckled. "Darkness corrupts… in other ways you might think… they are… filters of magic, cleansing pure from dark, good from evil… they aren't ones to easily be messed with."

Dipper nodded, making some notes in his head.

"Wait… one of our friends… knows them and I think they are friends?" Dipper said, the gnome blinked.

"I'm sorry… say that again cause I do not believe what came from your mouth…" the gnome said.

"One of our friends is friends with the guardians…"

"Boy… to earn that level of trust.. One must have to live a thousand years or, in other words, have the purest of hearts…. Either your friend is not mortal.. Or he is one you have to protect… not many are friends with the guardians… I myself am merely a stranger to them, one they would not save if I am in danger… but if your friend called upon the guardians for aid that day… you have a powerful ally… or enemy." the gnome said, before pulling something from his back pocket.

"Here! You will need this this year… dark times are coming… be prepared!" the gnome said, before scurrying out the front door.

Dipper picked up what looked like a small scroll.

And carefully opened it.

Inside was a circle.

A circle within a circle.

Twelve symbols surrounding a form.

Dipper looked at it in shock.

"Mabel… i think it's time we visit the gnomes…" Dipper said, rolling the scroll up.

"Oh… okay…" Mabel said, rather annoyed by the fact her brother wanted to visit the gnomes who tried to make her their queen.

It didn't take a genius to know what else they wanted her for.

And chapter part END!

Yeah…
