HHHHEeeeeeeeeey.
Chapter 1. Of 2. Because I can.
This is short, total gonna be about 3300 words. There are some plot points (specifically why she wants to travel through time) left undisclosed. I don't even know myself. But Hughes is saved, so ye. Mission Accomplished.
Also, I really need to learn to write a fic without an original character in it. *shrugs* I don't know. I enjoy making up my own characters too much. I should just write a book, but I also enjoy fanfiction too much, soooooooooooooooooo, moooving on.

"Almost there," a tall girl muttered, working steadily on a massive transmutation array. Her skin was very brown and she had shoulder length, curly black hair, which had been messily pulled into a tight ponytail.
After several minutes, she stood and examined her work, eyes glinting with the shadow of a smirk. "This should do it," she breathed, eyes sweeping over the circle. "Yes... this is perfect. Well, close, anyways." She laughed.
She took a deep breath, closing her eyes before letting it slowly out, feeling the air escape her.
Her eyes opened.
She clapped her hands together and dropped to the ground, her fingers splayed over the complicated array. The second her hands made contact, the lines burst to life, glowing a bright green, a strong wind whistling through the room.
She watched with eager, wide eyes. Maybe, after all this time, it would work. After so many attempts and so many failures, it would work.
But the light abruptly turned murky brown, the wind suddenly being sucked towards the center of the circle like a whirlpool, whipping the girl's hair across her face.
"Damn it!"

"How many times, Kara, are you going to visit me?" Truth asked, his signature smile absent. In its absence, the vast white expanse felt somehow colder, more featureless than it already was.
"As many times as it takes, Shiro," Kara answered petulantly, arms crossed and nose turned up.
Shiro merely sighed. "Well, I will transport you, once again, to somewhere-"
"And nowhere," Kara interjected smartly.
"Yes," Truth conceded, bowing his head in an almost tired way. "-and nowhere, Kara. Please, don't visit me again."
She stuck her tongue out as the door opened and long, shadowy hands reached to pull her away. Kara didn't fight as they wrapped around her, instead directing her efforts to glaring at Shiro as she was swept away.

DRRRI—
Roy sighed, wearily picking up the phone and asking, resigned, "What is it, Hughes?"
Silence was his only answer.
"Hughes?" Roy repeated, pausing in rubbing the bridge of his nose.
Silence.
Starting to feel panicky, he repeated, starting to shout, "Hughes, what's wrong? Hughes? Hughes!"
BOOM
The second the shockwave hit, before the actual sound of the explosion came, Roy had shot out of his chair.
"Lieutenant! Come with me!" he ordered, already moving to the door as he pulled his jacket on.
"Yes, sir!" Riza grabbed two guns off her desk before following him out.
Hughes, just hang on!

Kara moaned as she regained consciousness. Sitting awkwardly up—she seemed to be resting on a pile of debris at the bottom of a large crater—she looked around. People were already peering over the edge of the hole, and, seeing yellow marked pavement, she guessed she had been chucked into a street.
"Shiro, you damn prick," she grunted, pushing herself to her feet.
From her higher vantage point, she noticed two people near her, flat on the ground and bleeding. And… glowing?
"Hello? Oy! You!" she called, hurrying over.
The bleeding man remained where he was, but the one that seemed to be almost glowing with bright red blood stood up as though he wasn't just near the epicenter of an explosion.
"Who the hell are you?!" he demanded, looking childishly furious. Jets of red lighting shot around him, the last of his wounds disappearing in just a few seconds.
A tick mark appeared on Kara's forehead. "Well, who the hell are you, palm tree-san?" she retorted, peeved.
He seemed to go red. "Why you-!"
He broke off, freezing at the sirens kara had also noticed screeching towards them. After a moment's hesitation, he bolted away.
"Little git!" Kara sniffed, turning her attention to the other man. "Oh, hell," she added under her breath as she reached him, dropping down by his side.
Even without really examining him, it was plain that he was severely wounded. As her fingers lightly brushed over his jacket, he gave a weak groan.
"It's alright," Kara soothed, keeping her voice gentle. She'd worked plenty in the medical field, so knew to stay calm, and enough out in the field to actually do it. "You're alright. I'm going to heal you real quick," she continued, rolling up her sleeves and grabbing a marker from her pocket. Popping the lid off with her mouth, she reached over him. "Just stay awake for me, and you'll be alright."
"Freeze!"
She twitched to stillness, then, slowly, put her hands up. Gravel crunched behind her as someone skidded down into the crater.
"Who are you!?" a man, she was sure by how deep his voice was, demanded.
"As I said to the other bloke, who are you?" Kara returned coolly, eyes not leaving the man in front of her.
"Colonel Mustang! Who. Are. You?!"
"Does it matter? I have to deal with this man-"
Whack
She grunted as she was slammed to the ground, her arm pulled behind her back before she could really register it.
"Don't move," a new voice spoke behind her, likely female.
"Hughes!" the Colonel was shouting, accompanied by more crunching footsteps as feet rushed past Kara, dropping beside the injured man.
"Oy!" Kara yelled indignantly, struggling to escape her captor's grip.
Something hard hit the back of her head, and she blacked out.

"Major Hughes will likely not wake up, at the very least for some weeks. Even then, he might never regain consciousness. He sustained multiple injuries, in addition to the impact of the initial explosion. It's a miracle he's even alive."
"And the girl?"
"She seems mostly uninjured. A couple scrapes and bruises, apparently exhausted, and a cut on the back of her head."
"Is she awake?"
"She might be."
"Take me to her."
Footsteps clattered down the hall.
"Damn you, Shiro, for putting me in this mess!" Kara grunted bitterly, waiting for the voices to reach her.
"Right here, sir."
There was a click from the door, and it creaked open.
Kara scowled from where she sat in a hospital bed, each wrist handcuffed to either side. It was a small, white walled hospital room, with a barred window opposite the door.
"I'm glad you're awake," the Colonel said coldly, his eyes dancing with fire as he entered, a blond haired woman trailing behind him, as well as a doctor with white hair.
"Me, too," Kara retorted calmly. "You probably would have slapped me till I woke up."
The Colonel disregarded that statement. "Who are you?"
Kara hummed, her irritation, first at Shiro, then the palm tree man, then this one growing at an alarming rate. "What difference would it make if I told you?"
"Tell me who you are, so we can put your name on your gravestone," he snarled.
"Ooh, scary!" Kara said sarcastically, her eyes narrowed.
"What did you do to Hughes?"
As the Colonel asked this, he nodded to the doctor, who left, the door creaking as he closed it, then making a soft click as he presumably locked it.
"Hughes? Is he the palm tree who healed himself or the one that won't wake up?" Kara snided.
The Colonel strode forward, grabbing the front of her shirt and wrenching her upwards.
Kara winced, pointing out through her heavy breathing, "I didn't do… a thing."
"Like hell I'd believe that!"
She winced again, one of her eyes scrunching shut as the Colonel yanked her up to his eye level, her arms pulling taught.
"Let me..." Kara choked.
"What?" Asked colonel mustang, loosening his grip.
"Le'go, 'diot…" Her breath hitched in her throat, and she wriggled, trying to get free as her breath continued to leave her.
The Colonel tch'ed, then dropped her. She positioned herself so she was sat up, but otherwise focused on her breathing, taking rough, ragged gasps.
"I wasn't choking you, girl," the Colonel said scornfully.
She merely glared at him, a hand pressed to her throat in an effort to calm the tightness that had bloomed there.
There was a knock on the door, and it swung open to reveal a blonde boy and a suit of armor. The boy looked livid, and, despite the fact that it was armor, the other looked worried.
"She the one that nearly killed Major Hughes?" the boy demanded, something fiercer than Kara might have anticipated such a midget to have sparking in his golden eyes.
"She-" began the blonde woman, but—
"No," Kara interrupted loudly.
"Yes. She is!" the Colonel snapped.
"She is the one who tried to help only to be hit in the back of the head with a gun!" Kara retorted furiously.
A shouting match proceeded between them, ended when the blonde woman pulled a gun and pointed it at them both. "This girl was found at the scene of Hughes's attack, but we have yet to find any concrete evidence that she was the one who attacked him," she explained calmly.
"And you won't," Kara bit out, wincing as her throat throbbed.
This isn't looking great, damnit…
"I didn't attack him, so there's no way you'll find evidence I did," she continued hotly. "I was near him cuz I wanted to heal-" She broke of, hacking. Her hand left her throat, jumping to cover her mouth as she fought down a heave.
"Heal him? What a pitiful excuse!" the Colonel said, but she didn't see him, her eyes squeezed shut as she hacked again.
Damnit…
"No!" a tinging voice suddenly shouted, followed by loud, metal clunks. She forced an eye open to see the armor beside her.
"Al? What's wrong?" the boy asked, pushing forward, as well.
"Alphonse-!" The Colonel took another step forward.
"Stop it! She's bleeding!" the armor—Al—shouted, grabbing Kara's hand. After a little game of tug o war, which was very short as Kara was so weak at the moment and she was facing a literal suit of armor, Al wrenched her hand away from her mouth. It was covered in blood, as were her lips.
For a single, silent moment, the group looked from the hand to Kara, who stared defiantly back at them.
Alphonse finally broke the silence, asking gently, "What's wrong?"
Kara scowled. "'t's fine…!" She jerked her hand out of Al's grip, tipping over on the bed. "Damn Shiro," she muttered, closing her eyes.
"Who is Shiro?" the Colonel asked sharply.
Kara didn't hear him. She lay awkwardly slumped, her hands over her collarbone, panting softly.
"I'm not going to give up…" she breathed, ignoring them. "No matter what…"
"Who is Shiro?!"
"You can't… stop…" Kara muttered as she passed out.
