Ch8: His Uncertainty; Her Faith
Godzilla and Mothra never fought each other.
Light and Dark have and always will be intertwined with one another. To most, such a way of thinking leaves an interesting viewpoint on life upon earth. For it implies no matter how much good there is in the world, there will be bad. And if bad encompasses the world, good will always rise up. But, light and dark aren't necessarily black and white.
Light and Dark doesn't always mean good and evil, for light and dark need each other. One cannot live without the other, as such is the nature of their relationship. They complement each other in ways that is incomprehensible to others. They help each other survive within the forever changing world. And, despite many perceiving them to be opposites, the truth is, Light and Dark actually work together and strengthen the everlasting bond between them.
At least, this is what the King had thought about his relationship with the good and pure Mothra. They had disagreements about certain things- often during the early stages of their partnership- but never did they argue or fight. How someone like him could ever be cared for and become so close with the Goddess was something he never quite understood. Even so, he was forever grateful for her simply being there for him, and he would never stop being grateful no matter how much time had past.
They- the Light and the Dark- needed each other. He needed her light to quell his destructive tendencies and calm his wrathful heart. He needed her light to forever show him the values and beauty of all life no matter how much evil and destruction came upon the earth. And she needed his darkness, to fight in an unforgiving and darker world they had to live through in their time of constant fighting. She needed his darkness to teach her the evils in the world, and help her not fall victim to a naivety that everything on the earth is as good and peaceful as she is. Even so, it fuelled the Goddess's drive to continue fighting for a good world and shaped her to become the just and merciful Goddess she is today.
The Light and the Dark, despite what many had thought, never fought each other. Godzilla and Mothra, as Guardians and Protectors, had their fates intertwined together the moment they were born. Together, they were destined to become partners- friends even- and continue to fight and maintain the peace of the earth. Light and Dark have always been intertwined with each other.
But there was a problem in all this.
Mothra is a Guardian to all life- a sworn protector to defend the weaker creatures from any obstacle they may face. And it wasn't she had to follow. No, through her own morals and kindness, this guardianship was something she revelled in, and took great pride in defending others. She loved all forms of life- she cherished the uniqueness, the beauty, the liveliness of the various animals, insects and plant-life that were scattered across the earth.
And she had taken a vast likely to the lifeforms better known as humanity. In all of Mothra's years spent living, she had never seen a civilisation that could be so intelligent and caring as she was. She saw how peaceful they could be. She saw the various bonds and friendships they created with one another. She saw the families they created; the wondrous children they raised. She saw their gratitude in the form of them worshipping her as some sort of God (although, Mothra always felt it unnecessary and herself to be unworthy to be called such a thing). She did see the good in humanity- more so then any other species- and fell in love with them even more.
But, Godzilla is a Guardian to Earth. He is the Guardian of balance- he brings forth balance in the form of protection.
Or destruction
He was a neutral party- he could share no emotionally attachments or spite to anything. He had to be prepared to usher in justice in whatever form he chooses. And often, this would be destruction. He had done this many times in the past. In fact, the humans had witnessed him do it first hand. It had happened five years ago, when the humans had foolishly woken up the Jinshin-Mushi- one male; one female. And, hadn't it been for his interruption and guardianship, their seemingly infinite offspring would have no doubt plagued the earth and put the balance of life in their favour. It had even happened relatively recently. When the Golden One had tried to falsely claim Kingship over all Titan life like he had done millions of years prior. If Godzilla hadn't killed him then and there- if it wasn't for Mothra's sorrowful sacrifice- the Titan's, under the Golden One's command, would surely kill all life forms besides themselves and destroy the earth. It would have completely desecrated the natural order in the favour of that Golden Devil.
But, there was one unmistakable truth within the King's multiple battles in the modern era that lead to him fighting for his life, to uphold his position as the Guardian of Earth- it was the humans, with foolish and selfish intent, who had released these demons from their slumber and inadvertently put the balance of the natural order at stake.
It cannot continue like this. This constant repetition of humanity's greed and selfish ambitions, it would only bring about the destruction of the earth. If it hadn't been for the Mass Awakening that happened nine months ago, the world's natural resources and environments would surely have gotten to the point of being impossible to save. It's death being from humanity's negligence for the care of earth- only being saved by the monsters they feared.
Yes, the King did his best to not form any sentimental attachments to 'lesser creatures', but he couldn't help but fear the day that humanity would become the greatest enemy the earth had ever faced. The day Godzilla, as King, would have to become the God of Destruction to push back against the expanding greed of humans.
So Light and Dark are intertwined together. And whilst such a relationship could bring great joy, it also could bring great suffering.
The fire erupted from the buildings, embracing the massive city in its destructive flare, causing the building to collapse onto the ground with a harsh crash that echoed across the sky. Fire was everywhere; destruction was everywhere. Screams of panic, fear and distraught were heard all over the human city as the fires continued to burn with a savage vengeance.
They had gone too far. They had gone way too far.
Truly, the city was massive. It encompassed so much landscape, was fitted upon so much of the earth. The earth that had sacrificed its naturally beauty and life in favour of the humans using it to lay the foundations of their home. There was so much more of them now- they were like a plague; like a horrid infection. Their numbers just wouldn't stop growing. And their greed and arrogance wouldn't stop growing with their numbers.
It angered him- and something needed to be done.
He had seen human nature first hand- and wasn't best pleased with the results. He had seen how far the humans were willing to go to quench their needs and materialistic desires. How much evil and disregard for the natural order grew within their hearts, and how powerful they perceived themselves to be in spite of the Gods that shared the earth with them.
He wasn't the one who first caused all this destruction- it was them. Those humans were the one's who expanded their population even greater. They were the one's who consumed the natural resources of the earth. They were the one's who burnt down the once beautiful environments of the earth and destroyed them for their own gains. They were the one's who caused many precious lives in the forms of the lively animals and creatures that shared the earth with them, to be lost forever.
It was them- the humans- who had caused so much destruction and so much pain. It was them, who had killed the earth with their infinite hunger for more.
How could he let this come to pass? How could he fail the earth like this. He blinded himself to the undeniable truth that lay right in front of him. He put his own emotions- his own feelings and attachments- before his duty. And as consequence, he was also responsible for the death of the earth.
But there was hope within all this darkness they had caused. It wasn't too late to do something. If he could stop the infection's growth, if could stop humanity's expansion from growing any larger, the earth will sure be given ample time to rejuvenate its rightful lands and bring back the innocent lives of the creatures that were lost to the humans. All he had to do, was destroy the root cause to this evil. To kill and bring forth justice as he was meant to do. He alone had the power to do so, he alone had the right to make the decision, he alone would be the unstoppable force that would break humanity's reign over the earth.
He alone could become a monster to save the world.
The fire burnt his nostrils every time he took a breathe. The screams of humanity being quickly snuffed by the sounds of fire rang in his ears. More and more of the city was engulfed in the black smoke that soon rose high and covered the sky, blocking the sun and showering him in darkness.
He was King. He was protector. He was destroyer.
Standing within the fire, surrounded by its blazing warmth, Godzilla gritted his teeth and tensed his body. He didn't want to do this- but it must be done. He had to become a monster; he had to be known as a monster so that they may never take his mercy for granted. They were the one's who brought this upon themselves. They were the one's who caused all this destruction. They were the one's responsible for making an enemy out of the King. And yet, it pained him to continue to expand the raging fire. It pained him to slash at the buildings that were as tall as he was and collapse them down to earth. It pained him to silence the weapons and warriors humanity sent after him in a futile attempt to stop his rampage.
It pained him knowing she would never look at him the same way.
But through all the pain, the King continued forth, roaring as to be heard across the earth and terrifying the humans below him. With an angered snarl, the raging glow of blue lit from his dorsal plates, starting from the tip of his tail to the top of his neck. His mouth was clenched tightly, as if trying to swallow back the blazing fire coursing through his body. But the battle was unwinnable, and with a frustrated scream of agony, expelled the fire from his mouth, letting the blue flame of his atomic breathe blast the foundations of one of the few standing buildings left in his wake.
Godzilla caught on his breathe, panting quickly and turning his head to destroy another one. But a sharp pain slashed against the back of his neck, causing the King to recoil back in pain and roar angrily at the sudden attack against him. However, he couldn't see just who it was, given the black smoke that littered the sky.
It wasn't a human creation. Another Kaiju? If so, who would dare rebel against the King and face him in combat?
Suddenly, the silhouette of a creature flew past his sight and disappeared quickly back into the smoke. Unable to follow on, pain was suddenly slashed back into him as the creature suddenly appeared out of the smoke and attacked him once again. The King turned around erratically, striking his claws wildly in an attempt to hit his attacker. But the creature was too quick, and again and again it would strike its claws against Godzilla's scales.
The King grew tired at the creature's attacks. As such, his rage burned brighter with the flaring blue in his eye's. Roaring savagely, striking fear into the hearts of those who heard it, the King looked up and saw the silhouette of the creature moving through the smoke at high speeds. Instantly, the blue fire of his atomic breathe shot from his mouth, barely missing the creature. Growing more and more frustrated, Godzilla continued on with the harsh stream, trying and failing to hit his target, until the flame dispersed entirely, leaving wisps of blue as its remains.
Once the fire was gone, the creature, from high in the sky, dove back down with tenacity, ready to strike the King directly. Narrowing his golden eyes, Godzilla had reached the peak of his anger, and used all his might to quickly summon the diminishing flame once again. With it, he unexpectedly shot his atomic breathe, easily and powerfully hitting the creature with unparalleled strength. As quickly as the flame came to be, it disappeared into the air, but was enough for the fight to have ended.
Stomping forward, the King's body sternly swayed as he got closer to where the creature had fallen. Now infuriated beyond belief, Godzilla smacked his tail against the destroyed roads of the city, causing even more destruction and offering the creature only one final warning to leave and no longer interfere with him. But his golden eyes widened in surprise as his breathing became erratic the longer he stared at the creature surrounded by fire. As if the fire was being quelled by the creature itself, it disappeared, giving the King a better view of who it was. And upon realisation, his breathing heightened as his eyes were struck with distraught and despair.
With burnt wings that glowed a spiteful red, and shaking claws, Mothra stood defiantly against the King. Her once loving and caring eyes dimmed by coldness and filled with heartbreak. But it was clear that one emotion toppled any other within her eyes- that being, her eyes blazed with absolute hatred.
Gojira!
Begrudgingly, the King did his best to open his eyes, shaking his great head away from the tiredness. He felt really uncomfortable. And it wasn't from the course sand he awoke to find himself laying down upon, nor was it from the cold breeze that blew against his scales. He knew the answer to his discomfort, but he tried his best to avoid his emotional turmoil and forget the imagery he saw within his mind.
Finally collecting himself, Godzilla took in a deep breathe as he took in his surroundings. Ah, yes- he remembered now. He had gone to the other side of the island they called home, and fell asleep on the beach. Because less greenery grew on this side of the island, it gave Godzilla more space to engulf himself in the blanket of sand and rest upon its warmth. He also remembered that the waves were calmer on this side of the island, and how it gave a beautiful view of the sunrise- how, as the sun rose, it would encompass the relatively calm, human city visible to him on the island. Oh, and he hadn't come alone, as well. He had come to offer company to…
Godzilla narrowed his eyes forward, adjusting their blurriness and focus on the image in front of him. Catching on his breathe in surprise, the King found himself staring directly into Mothra's comforting gaze, noticing how her eye's were filled with great concern and sympathy- how he just realised her beak had adorned an uncharacteristic frown and how both of her frontal claws were clasps against the side of his head. The sight nearly made the King's heart jump right to his mouth.
"Gojira, are you alright?" Mothra asked, distressed as she started to tenderly caress the side of the King's face, gently brushing against his scales as she noticed his wide-eyed stare, "You were shaking in your sleep, and I couldn't wake you up."
Godzilla hadn't noticed it before, but he now realised his discomfort was because of his shaking- shaking that was still continuing. Inhaling a sharp breathe, Godzilla calmed his nerves but still couldn't look Mothra in the eye. After what he envisioned, that sight her of pure hatred towards him was burned into his mind, and he couldn't ignore it. Closing his eyes, he eventually comforted Mothra by leaning his head forward and nuzzling it against the side of her soft head. And after she nuzzled back, giving a sigh of relief, Godzilla spoke again.
"Sorry, just a nightmare." the King whispered, keeping her head against the side of hers, hoping to not make eye contact and instead focus on her endearing fur.
"Another one?" Mothra replied, a great deal of anxious and distraught for her friend, resting her head against his, "I do hope this isn't something we have to worry about."
It seemed childish- almost laughable- but every intelligent creature would fall victim to the horror's of a nightmare. Even the mighty King himself had found nightmares would plague his distraught mind even at a young age. It was certainly no laughing matter- and it was made even more serious if Godzilla had been frightened by it.
It had been that very nightmare that haunted him for about a week, now. And ever since then, for the past week, Mothra noticed the growing levels of awkwardness and tension whenever they were alone together. She knew for a fact that Godzilla wasn't angry or annoyed at her. She had thought it best to not pry on the subject, believing he needed some space and privacy alone. But the past week had worsened the King's state to the point where he would sometimes try his best to avoid her or even look at her. And yet Mothra wasn't insulted, angered or frustrated by it. All she felt was concern; concern for her friend and a determined feeling to help his aching heart. With half-closed eyes, and breathing heavily, Mothra awaited Godzilla's response.
"No, it's nothing," Godzilla answered back softly, a deep rumble in his voice. He desperately wanted to tell her so bad; he wanted to have her comfort his problems like she had done so many times in the past. But he couldn't do it, and instead cowered from her comforting light, "I'm fine now."
Mothra pulled away and returned to face Godzilla face-to-face, but she noticed how his eye's moved away from her- and how he wasn't telling her the full truth. Godzilla knew Mothra had caught onto his lies the moment these nightmares had started to occur, and it pained him to continue to lie to the one he trusted and cherished the most. But he was afraid and uncertain, he believed there was no answer to his problem- only that Light and Dark were forever fated to fight.
But still, Mothra didn't pry. Interrogating him directly about his problems- at least, at this current time- didn't seem like the best time to do so. It would stress and pain the King even more should she continue with her questioning and worrying. She knew he wasn't ready to tell her- so, instead she would wait.
But she wouldn't stop her comforting. She promised to always be there for him, and so, the Goddess decided to take a different approach on things. She wouldn't explicitly ask the King on his nightmares, but rather, relieve him of his pain in other ways. Ways that always worked whenever he would isolate himself from her.
"Come and sit with me, Goji." Mothra spoke smoothly, brushing he limbs away from the King's head and taking a step back. Godzilla had forgotten that, before he had went to sleep, Mothra had indulged herself with the sites upon the horizon and sat contently upon the sand. And though the offer was filled with care, Godzilla could tell that she had meant for it to be an order- one she wouldn't take no for an answer.
Sighing deeply, the King pushed himself off his underside and stood tall upon the beach, little grains of sand flowing and falling off his scales as he stretched his arms and yawned in a cat like manner. Finished with his rising, Godzilla followed Mothra's eager steps as she sat upon the parts of the beach where the sand ended and was touched by the warm, open ocean.
Slowly and gently, he collapsed on himself and sat upon the sand, with Mothra doing the same, close to his side. Indistinctively, the King's tail carefully wrapped itself behind Mothra's body and laid against her side, keeping her close to him, in which she responded diligently with a pink glow and a satisfied squeak. With his heart calmer and more at ease, Godzilla stared at Mothra with a growing warm smile, noticing how she began to smile the more she looked to the horizon.
"Beautiful, is it not?" Mothra spoke after a while of silence, still staring across the sea. Godzilla finally took his gaze off her, and looked towards the horizon.
He could see declining sun showering its light upon the human city within the afternoon sky. He could hear the many lifeforms living their usual, ordinary lives- from the humans, to the birds, to the insects on the island- as well as the calm waves that rippled across the ocean. Staring intently at the bright, lively city, Godzilla silently agreed with Mothra, noting how everything seemed to be just perfect.
"It's amazing how humanity can create such a thing." Mothra spoke again with a sparkle in her eyes. She glowed a bright blue as she took in all of the idyllic scenery, making the King softly chuckle at her enthusiasm, "How they can share their creation's with the earth and make the world just that little bit more lively."
"You really love humanity, don't you?" Godzilla whispered as he turned his head to look at her again. But his voice trembled slightly as he said this and his tail around Mothra slightly loosened around her.
"Yes, I really do, Goji." Mothra replied with fervour and truth, "They can form communities and caring families. Not only can they create vast architecture and landscapes, but they can create strong bonds, friendships, and loved one's with each other as well."
Her bright, blue wings shimmered as beautiful as ever as she leaned her furred-head closer against the King's side, staring intently at the city. Because of this, Mothra hadn't noticed the King's sombre smile upon his face nor the saddened rhythm of his heartbeat. His mind being filled with mixed emotions- warmth, tenderness as well as heartbreak for every single word the Goddess spoke.
But her radiant smile soon dropped from her beak, as her wings blanketed and covered more of her body, shivering slightly. Godzilla had noticed her sudden change of well-being, and instantly forgot his own sadness in favour of her. Quickly, he positioned his tail back to its tight hold on Mothra, and gently placed an arm around her back. Quietly, not noticing the King's advances upon her, the Goddess continued.
"But, despite my love for them…" Mothra whispered, sombre and sorrowful, finally releasing her gaze from the city and looking down towards the beach, "…I know of the atrocities they have committed, and the evils they can bring." She comforted herself against the scales of the King, looking on at the waves that flowed within the ocean, her voice now barely even audible to the him. "Such is the nature of humanity."
With his arm around Mothra, and his claw to the side of her, Godzilla opened up his claw ina friendly and consoling manner. Turning her head and quickly noticing the gesture, Mothra quickly took up the King's offer by placing her forelimb within his grasp. Content, both tightened their claw-holding of it each other, neither one wanting to break the silence or from each other.
"I'm sorry." the King whispered. He always knew Mothra was aware of the bad humanity could bring despite her care for them. Through all his inner struggle in regards to humanity's downfall, he had neglected how Mothra would feel knowing this. And he chastised himself harshly for doing so.
Mothra brought up her eyes towards Godzilla, and was delighted to find he returned to her eyes and looked back at her, no longer pulling away. Joyfully, she gave a grateful smile and held her claw tighter against his. With her eyes lighting up once again, she continued speaking, much to the intrigue and happiness of the King.
"Before we had to fight… Him again," Mothra began, choosing her words carefully and delicately, "when I had hatched out of my egg, I looked into the mind of a young human girl- the first human I had seen in a millennia."
Godzilla was surprised at this revelation. He knew Mothra had mystical, strangely God-like powers, and had used these powers to form deep relationships with a chosen few of humans. In fact, he remembered she had told him the lineage that she shared this relationship with was still alive and thriving. But for Mothra to use and share her power with some random human girl- a young one, as she had said- took Godzilla aback and made him think for a moment.
"I could see through her memories, her thoughts- everything." Mothra continued, unsure if Godzilla was liking the fact she had created even more intimate relationships with the humans, "And I could tell how she and many others had a plan to bring back that False King."
Despite the calmness of it all, Godzilla couldn't help a faint growl to escape his mouth at the mention of his greatest enemy- and how he had apparently gotten help in escaping his icy prison. The King had always suspected the humans had taken part in the Golden One's recent return, but with Mothra confirming his suspicions, it had made him focus on controlling his anger for a moment.
But Mothra didn't sway at the revelation. Instead, her smile had started to grow, much to the confusion of the King. With her growing smile, his rage began to diminish as he noticed the spark within her blue eyes igniting with excitement and affection.
"But I could also see the drive and compassion she had, Goji." Mothra exclaimed, clutching his claw harder. The King smiled back- she always knew how to pick them, "How she had a youthful, excited spirit as well as great adoration for our kind. I know within her heart, whilst their was pain and confusion, there was also great kindness and understanding."
"I do not know what had led her to believe releasing Him would be for the betterment of the world." Mothra carried on, a small bit anxious for the well-being of the young child, having not known what had happened to her after she was taken away by humans that radiated evil, "But, despite her distraught and conflicted heart, I could tell…"
"Tell what?" Godzilla asked softly, tilting his head in confusion, thoroughly invested in her story.
She looked lovingly into his golden eyes, her own crystal eyes filled to the brim with exhilaration and great happiness, "Tell that she truly loved us, Gojira." Mothra beamed, with her wings emitting a serene blue even greater than before, "As much as I love them."
With Mothra finished with her speech, Godzilla took his time within the silence to really think about what she had said, all with a shocked and disbelieved expression. Because of his appearance, his size, his strength, humanity had always regarded him with fear and destruction. As such, he never really saw as much good in humanity as Mothra did. But Mothra never told any lies, so was it really true? Did a human actually love him? Was she not afraid, but instead, marvelled at him with adoration? One human may not mean much in the grand scheme of things; one human who felt love for Titans wouldn't be enough to truly signify a world where man and monster could live peacefully together.
But for the King, it was enough for him. And sombrely, with great regret, he asked the Goddess a question that burned into his mind.
"…So what happens then?" Godzilla questioned, still retaining his look upon Mothra's beautiful face, "What happens if humanity continues on their evil path? What happens when they grow too strong and upset the balance?"
A growing concern and sadness swept over the King, overshadowing his anger as he spoke, "What happens if I would have to fight against them?"
Mothra, with her face filled with pity and compassion leant in closer to the King, having him lean his head closer to hers. Letting go of his claw, she brought her limb to the snout of the King, caressing it lovingly as she continued to smile, for him. "I do not know…" Mothra finally answered, saddened by how she couldn't give her friend an answer and noticing how Godzilla was taken aback by her answer, "… the thought… it's not something I would want to think about."
But as her smile stayed strong, so did her resolve. She was as uncertain about the future as the King, but she was certain about something entirely different. And it kept her at comfort whenever humanity would start to lose its way. Maybe it wouldn't answer Godzilla's questions, but (she hoped) it would relieve him of the heavy shackles he had to bare as King.
"But I do no one thing, Gojira. I do know that there is one feeling I have for humanity that I feel is stronger towards them than any other species I know of. A feeling I will forever have, having fallen in love with them." Mothra declared firmly and sincerely.
"And what's that?" Godzilla asked in a whispered tone, already comforted by her smile and the way she seemed to be so certain and confident in her words.
Fondly, Mothra moved her claw away from the King's snout and down to her side. Turning her entire body to face him, she quickly grasped onto both of Godzilla's claws, pulling them away from his sides and commanding them to hold her claws back- to which the King instantly did. Holding them intently, the King relished in Mothra's smile and touch.
"I have faith, Goji." Mothra finally answered with enthusiasm. So much so, it caused Godzilla to glow slight pink at her emotional declaration, and glow brighter with her, "I believe in them. Humanity has the greatest potential to change, and that's what makes them so unique and worth fighting for. I have faith they can see through their wrong doings and find peace and love with one another as well as with the other live's across the earth."
"I have faith we can live together with them, and share the earth with them."
Mothra leant in closer, becoming so close to the King's head, but falling just short from touching his snout due to her height. Whispering, she looked deep within the King's soul and right through him, "Surely you have seen their compassion for us, as well, Gojira."
He hadn't thought at all about his own, personal- really personal- experiences with the humans. But, as if triggered by the Goddess's words, a sudden memory came be realised by the King, causing him to slightly gasp in realisation and widen his eyes. How could he forget? It was the first time… the first time a human had ever…
Stumbling, shaking and weak, the man continued up the steps.
Fire burned his skin, the air poisoned his body, and yet the man continued up the stairs.
Clutched tightly against his chest; an object that emanated great power and destruction.
In spite of all of this, the man showed no fear.
Even when stopping and standing right in front of the King of the Monster's head.
He placed the object down, fidgeting and trembling as he did so.
He took off his mask trapping his head, allowing the King to see the entirety of the doomed human's face.
With a shaking hand, and a calm, sombre expression, the man reached for the King. Unwavering was his will.
Like before, no fear recollected in his eyes, as his hand finally stopped moving, and was rested gently against the snout of the King.
Weak, confused but strangely at ease, the resting King could only offer up a light rumble in response as well as soften his golden eyes to stare directly at the man.
And, in present time, words that had been forgotten by the King suddenly came forth from deep in his mind and echoed in his ears.
Softly, the man said his final words; his final goodbyes.
In the human language Godzilla had first learnt and recognised.
Saraba, tomo yo.
The King gave off a shaking breathe as he recollected himself from the memory. Smiling the tiniest of smiles- relieved- the King raised Mothra's claws higher and brought them closer to his head, noticing how it caused Mothra's wings to flash pink for a moment.
"There was one, Mosura." Godzilla revealed slowly, his eyes shining with gratitude and peace, "Thank you, for reminding me."
Relieved Godzilla had finally seemed at ease and relaxed, Mothra finished with final, closing words that were spoken true from the heart, "I have faith in all this, and I hope this is what the future will bring for us."
And after she finished, neither one could seem to take their eye's off the other. They seemed enchanted by one another's gaze, with gold reflecting off blue and blue reflecting off gold. To the other, the beauty of the other's colour was even more enchanting than the view upon the water. But a clashing wave upon the beach interrupted their gazing, and abruptly, the two let go of each others claws and pulled away, embarrassed.
But soon enough, they had returned to relish in each other's embrace. With Mothra laying the side of her body and her claws firmly against the chest of the King, and Godzilla wrapping both of his arms across the back and the chest of the Goddess in a secure hold. With questions answered; with hearts at rest, Mothra closed her eye's and took a deep breathe.
The sombre, uplifting song; the quiet, powerful tune- her calm and familiar voice- echoed across the island as she began to sing once again. The distinct melody was even more beautiful, even more serene and even more heartfelt than ever before. It's tune was addicting to the King, making Godzilla not want her soft song to end any time soon. And his wish was granted, for Mothra wished the same as well. The longer she sang, the more powerful; more enticing the song became. It worked its magic, and the doubt the King once had; the fear he felt from his nightmare became nothing more than a fleeting memory within his peaceful heart.
"I hope so, too, Mosura." Godzilla whispered within her song, promising to himself to have as much faith as Mothra had- his will strengthened by her singing.
I hope so too…
I really enjoyed writing this chapter, mostly because it really made me think about the relationship between Goji and Mothra- and how their character can be portrayed by simple conversations like this. This conflict was also one of the first ideas I had for a chapter, so I feel great knowing I was finally able to write it.
(Also, you can't have a romance fic without the classic 'nightmare that leads to eventual comfort and fluff!')
Also, I've got another question: So the song Mothra sang is the same as in chapter 3 and, for obvious reasons, I left Mothra's song ambiguous so you guys can imagine what it would sound like for yourselves. So... what kind of song do you imagine Mothra singing? Personally, when I would write the scene, I'd picture her singing (or I guess shrilling) the tune 'Home' from the Undertale OST. I don't know why, I just think it fits the comforting, warm and bittersweet nature I described her song to be.
Go listen to 'Home'- or for that matter- the entire Undertale soundtrack if you haven't before. I highly recommend! (Although, I'm not quite sure what me recommending a super famous OST would do- you've all probably heard it :P)
Hope you enjoyed!
