Luka adjusted his gold cuff links before smoothing his hair again. He had decided to slick the entirety of it back; only a single strand was left untouched. He was waiting in the ballroom where the party would soon be taking place. They still had fifteen minutes until all of the guests were let in so he and Chloé had agreed to meet there to give the room the all clear.
Luka had never been in the Opera Ballroom in Le Grand Paris but it truly was one of the most beautiful rooms he had ever been in. It was in the shape of a half circle; the walls were gold and a gorgeous chandelier hung from an ornate dome ceiling. Mirrors lined the walls and he had been using it to fix himself up. He had thought Chloé had been crazy suggesting that he wear gold in honor of her. But the intricate dark yellow designs on his waistcoat and bowtie perfectly got the point across underneath his black tuxedo. He never thought he was capable of looking this good.
Then again, he never thought he was capable of doing half of the things he did with Chloé. Get married on a whim, play the piano, barge into a classroom and tell a teacher off, crash a party, love someone and be loved in the same way. Chloé had given him adventure and a home at the same time. He adjusted his bowtie one more time before the entrance to the ballroom opened and he turned around.
She looked stunning. She spotted him and they began making their way over to each other. He grabbed a gift he had for her off of a table on his way over. That dress must have been custom because Luka had never seen it anywhere else before. It was a form fitting baby blue dress with a square neckline and thin straps. There was a slit on her side revealing light blue heels, and on top of that, detachable train made out of the same baby blue satin. How he knew it was satin, he did not know. He blamed Marinette.
Instead of her usual hair style, she had a much higher slicked back ponytail and golden earrings dangled by her neck, making it look even longer. She was the image of perfection. They finally met in the middle of the ballroom, neither having said a word yet. They didn't stop until they were standing chest to chest with no room left between them.
"Hi," Luka managed.
"Hi," Chloé muttered back. "You look so amazing."
"So do you," Luka whispered. He brought a hand up to touch her cheek and she couldn't help the smile and blush that spread across her face. "I have something for you."
"Me too but for you."
At the same time, they held up their gifts. Luka had a bouquet of various blue flowers for her and she held up a single yellow begonia with a pin. They laughed at their similar gifts and Chloé moved forward to pin the flower onto his jacket.
"Adrien is super into flower language," Chloé told her husband. "He said yellow begonias mean joy and feelings of contentment. I figured it was perfect." She stepped back once she was positive it was on. "That's what you make me feel." Luka held out the bouquet for her to take.
"I also asked Adrien what kind of flowers to get you," he confessed with a laugh. "Or to get a girl I really liked. I wanted to save the reveal for tonight. Anyway, he said desert bluebells represent everlasting love, freesia flowers represent trust, anemone means good luck and forget-me-nots stand for faithful love. So I just got a little bit of all of them."
Chloé looked beautiful standing in front of him in her dress and holding her bouquet perfectly centered. The fact that he had missed out on a sight like this at their wedding stung and he kind of regretted that he would never have that chance.
"I want to get married again," Luka admitted. "I want to have a day that's dedicated just to us. I want to see you walk down an aisle in the most beautiful dress. I want us to say vows and do all of the things you're supposed to do."
"We could renew our vows."
"What?" Luka had never heard of something like that before.
"Gabriel Agreste and his wife did it every year on their anniversary. I always hated sitting through them when I was little. It's pretty much just having a wedding without the actual getting married and legal stuff. We can do it on our anniversary next year so that we can keep the date."
She was incredible. She always had the right ideas and she always knew just what to say. "I would like that," Luka agreed.
"I love you," Chloé told him.
"I love you too." He pulled her in for a kiss, being careful not to mess up her makeup or her hair. She looked perfect and he had to keep it that way. He felt pride surge through him as he realized she would be the most beautiful of all of the girls there. Bias or not. She moved a hand up to touch the back of his neck and he moved a hand to her waist. They pulled apart just as the door opened again.
"M. and Mme. Couffaine, the guests will be brought into the ballroom in five minutes."
"Thank you Butler Jean," Chloé called before turning back to her husband. "You know, I've been thinking. Since we're married and I'm a legal adult now...maybe tonight after the party we could-"
"Yes," Luka said instantly. He knew what she was insinuating and one hundred percent yes. "But for right now, my insanely hot wife and I better go hide. No one can see us yet." Chloé took Luka's hand and led him to a side entrance which led back around to the main entrance given enough turns. They're stomachs flopped in anticipation for the event that was about to go down. "Call me petty, but I can't wait to see the look on Lila's face," Luka mumbled.
"Call me Mme. Petty because I completely agree."
Luka waited for Juleka and Rose in the main hall, figuring that if he walked in with them it would be less suspicious. They showed up hand in hand in ballgowns that were the complete opposite of one another. Rose was wearing a bubblegum pink frilly gown and Juleka donned a slimming black evening dress with dramatic black lace sleeves.
"Ladies, looking lovely tonight," Luka complimented.
"How did you get an invite, I thought it was Chloé's class only. And where on Earth did you get a tuxedo?" Juleka looked even more shocked with his attire than he felt.
"Well when I found out you were going, I begged Chloé on my knees for an invitation as well, I was just so jealous." Juleka rolled her eyes and smirked at his obvious joke. "As for the tuxedo, I found it abandoned on the floor ten minutes ago." Rose let out a soft giggle as Juleka merely sighed at her brother's antics. "May I accompany you ladies inside?"
"Shouldn't you wait for your girlfriend," Rose asked.
"Girlfriend?" Luka put on his best serious expression, acting as if they had no idea who or what they were talking about.
"Yeah, Lila told us all about you guys," Juleka explained.
"I'm not dating Lila." That was the first one hundred percent truth Luka had told his sister about his relationship status in two months.
"We saw you guys kiss at the party. No use denying it."
Luka simply sighed, put his hands into his dress pant pockets, and followed his sister and her girlfriend into the ballroom. He tried to act as amazed as they were, after all it was not his first time in the room. There were a lot of rich people and famous celebrities, but Luka didn't care much about them. He was only looking for two people. One because he missed her already and he wanted to see her gorgeous self again. The other, because he was trying to avoid her like the plague.
Luka did not find either, he figured Chloé hadn't made her grand entrance yet. He did however find Marinette and Adrien. And wherever Marinette was, Lila was not. He made his way over to the couple.
"Hey you two," he greeted.
"Hey, Luka. How did you get in," Marinette asked.
"Yeah these parties are pretty exclusive."
"Let's just say it involved me getting on my knees." Or one knee. Luka imagined a cymbal crash in his head until he remembered that technically it was Chloé that had proposed to him. "Lot of begging. Not my finest moment."
Marinette and Adrien laughed at his joke, the blond boy taking a sip of his drink right after. The lights dimmed and some quiet music came on, creating a completely different atmosphere than the one previous.
"Shouldn't you be looking for your girlfriend?" Luka turned to look at Adrien. From the looks on his and Marinette's faces they clearly weren't as convinced as the rest of the class.
"I don't have a girlfriend," he answered honestly.
"I knew it," Marinette whisper-shouted.
"She was pretty convinced Lila wasn't your type," Adrien teased.
"You value honesty too much!"
"Speaking of." Adrien pointed to behind Luka where Lila could be seen making her way towards them.
"That's my que to get out of here. See you guys!"
Luckily Luka was saved from having to go too far because the music changed and the lights went down all the way, a single spotlight that was focused on the door acted as the only source of illumination. This was it.
Chloé stood outside the door, waiting for the introduction that would mark her entrance. Normally, when about to humiliate someone and reveal their biggest secret, a person would be nervous or have butterflies at least. Not Chloé. She knew that whatever she said or did out there, no matter how this interaction went, she would still have her husband at the end of the day. A voice came out over the speakers.
"And now, presenting the guest of honor, Chloé Bourgeois!"
"Couffaine," Chloé mumbled, positive that wherever Luka was, he was saying it too. She pushed open the door and walked into the room, strutting down the aisle that had been formed by people making way for her. Keeping her head straight, she scanned the room as best she could, looking for Luka and Lila. She would need to know both of their locations for this plan. All of the guests cheered and clapped for her as she made her way through the room and to the low stage that had been installed specifically for this purpose.
Luka watched his wife gracefully climb the single step onto the stage. He heard people muttering about how beautiful she was and it took everything in him not to brag and say "that's my wife".
Chloé stood on top of the stage, facing the audience in front of her. The spotlight had followed her up and she smiled in it as Butler Jean handed her a microphone. She did not miss the smirk on his face. He was as equally excited as she was.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen and welcome to my eighteenth birthday!" She paused for the cheering and clapping. "You all have no idea how happy I am to have you here. Thank you all so much for coming out and thank you so much to my amazing father for once again going above and beyond. This is a very, very special night for me for a number of reasons. The most obvious being the big one-eight. Another being that this is the first time that my classmates have joined us for one of these galas. I am so happy to have them here, let's give them a round of applause." She led the clapping herself, trying to find every single one of her peers and give them a big smile. In that time, she found Lila standing close to audience center and Luka standing off stage right, just like they talked about.
"Finally, I have a couple of people that I would like to introduce to you. Some very important people tonight. Juleka and Rose," she gestured to them and a second spotlight shone right above them, "thank you so much for coming out tonight. Having you here means more to me than you know." The two girls looked flustered but offered her genuine smiles anyway. "I would like to say a huge congratulations to Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste." The spotlight moved from Juleka and Rose to the newer couple. "Adrien is like a brother to me and I'm so happy that he has a girl as amazing as Marinette by his side." Chloé locked eyes with Adrien and he mouthed a simple "thank you" to her. Chloé nodded, knowing that he understood. "Now earlier in the week I made a bet of sorts with a classmate of mine. Lila Rossi." The spotlight moved to Lila who was standing alone looking very uncomfortable all of a sudden. "You wanted proof right?" When Lila failed to respond, Chloé just let out an innocent laugh before turning back to the rest of the audience.
"I promised Lila earlier this week that I would give her proof that I knew something that she didn't about a very particular boy. A boy that is very, very special to me. To do this, I must first apologize to each and every one of you for lying to you for the last two months. Ladies and gentlemen...I am married." Chloé had to hold back the laughter when the entire crowd let in one collective gasp. "Yes, I am married. I have been for two months but due to certain conditions we had to keep it on the downlow. Until we decided earlier this week that we would announce it. You see, Lila Rossi claimed to be dating my husband. As any wife knows that was something that I absolutely could not have." The look on Lila's face was priceless. Chloé took a quick glance at Butler Jean to make sure he was recording. She looked over to Luka, ecstatic that he would be on that stage next to her in a matter of moments.
"So, without further ado, I would like to introduce you all to my husband, Luka Couffaine."
