"The Relay war was truly a boon to the Union as before it began demilitarization had begun as seen with the lack of weapons and vehicles on Shanxi. This was just the thing that was needed to reawaken the war machine as the pacifists were becoming quieter and quieter before this aggression" –Jack Harper Founder of Sentinel
The torpedo salvo launched by the defense fleet was not expected to do any real damage as they were proximity fused HE torpedoes designed to take out swarms of fighter craft with a barrage of shrapnel but while most Union warships have thick multilayered armor capable of shrugging off such weapons the same could not be said for the Turian warships their armor thin and typically relying entirely on their shields and speed only the larger vessels of the fleet could survive such damage as a dozen enemy ships were gutted and eviscerated. Shrapnel flooded the interior cutting apart crew and vital systems alike massive holes gauged like massive scars across the skin of their vessels many of the crew that survived the shrapnel were ripped into the void of space suffocating in the cold vacuum. As the chaos continued in space the Transports in atmosphere were finishing their landing procedures not knowing that the spacesport was no longer in their hands.
The PDF began fortifying their position as quickly as possible. The frigid ground prevented them from using shovels and making trenches so they resorted to blasting out foxholes using grenades. Time was of the essence as they went about their work the few heavy weapons available to the soldiers were placed near the back of the defense line. Firing lines were formed and helmets sealed. Seconds ticking by as the enemy transports began to land. They waited until final the order was given and the battle begun. Rails flung towards the unprepared aliens cutting them apart like a scythe through wheat causing them to scatter. Soon they began returning fire and moments later the field of battle changed as alien hovertanks began emerging from the transports their main gun blasting apart strategic hard points and rending holes in the defense line. Return from the PDF pinging harmlessly off their armor the defenders gradually pulling back the aliens trudging through the blacken snow to push their advantage as it clumped to their boots until they were at the entrance of the spaceport near the fuel containers black liquid dripping from their nozzles and clumping on the ground below. In the center of the spaceport a single sentence was uttered "burn em". Outside the fuel coating the ground lit ablaze as a single match was dropped. Fire engulfed the invaders burning them alive inside their armor melting through flesh and bone alike. The tanks barely fared any better as the Vorilum fuel burned hotter then a star cooking the crew alive.
In space angered and enraged at the enemy continuing to fight the leader of the invasion gave an order with far reaching consequence as the flagship aimed its main gun at the capital of Shanxi before unleashing it fury in the form of a mass accelerated projectile. The city never stood a chance as the round impacted in its center instantly converting into pure energy it caused more devastation then even an atom bomb as its shock wave was felt across the whole planet as millions of lives were snuffed out in an instant.
Near the system edge hundreds of rifts began appearing for the wrath of the Union had arrived.
