New Remote
Gavin tried to hide the sly grin trying to replace his irritated expression. Normally the young detective wasn't in such a peppy mood, but today was different.
Today he was going to get revenge.
As the man sat at his desk, burying his face to his computer, his eyes wandered the precinct full of officers before landing on the sitting deviant detective across the room. His eyes darkened with mischief.
Not too long ago, Connor had the audacity to make a fool out of him for pulling a prank on Gavin a few days ago. The young but agitated detective was minding his own business when his phone blasted the most embarrassing song he'd ever heard of. The entire precinct burst out laughing and he could remember how that plastic prick and his old partner high-five each other.
Gavin never forgot it and now he has the perfect opportunity to get payback. Little did Connor know, he has connections to everyone, including programmers. Gavin might not be big on technology, even after the whole ordeal of the android revolution, he did know that no matter how advanced a computer is, it can still have little bugs.
His lovely yet badass partner, Tina must have noticed his spying because she raised an eyebrow and slapped his head.
"Ow! Tina, what the hell?" He hissed, rubbing the sore spot. He glared at the woman, who rolled her eyes at his complaint.
"Why are you creepily staring at Connor?" Tina asked impatiently, not wanting to deal with her obnoxious partner. The grin that he had been trying to hide finally came to the surface, instantly making the woman almost fear for her life. "Oh no. What did you do?"
"Nothing," he shrugged before pulling out a regular-looking remote from his coat pocket. "... yet."
"It's just a remote."
"Not just any remote. This is my key to my revenge," he grinned evilly as he shook the object. "I had this beauty whipped up by a couple of people. This thing can control any android and make them do whatever you want. Pretty cool, right?"
She made a face. "That's kinda messed up." She leaned forward and began whispering so no one could overhear them. "I heard that he got some PTSD or something. I think it has to do with Cyberlife almost making him assassinate Markus."
"Hank's plastic pet has PTSD? That dipshit has no idea what the true meaning of the word is," he scoffed arrogantly. Gavin turned back to the android, who had gone into his scheduled self-diagnostic. "Go tell the others and wait for the show to start."
Tina huffed as she watched the detective casually walk over to Connor, who was alone at his desk, and stood behind him. Gavin, remembering the instructions his people told him, pressed his fingers down on the android's neck which lifted a small panel where USB wires and microchips could be installed. After tinkering with the stalled deviant, Gavin hid any evidence he was there and hurried back to his desk.
His eyes gazed around and caught sight of a few amused looks from his coworkers. He proudly smirked before gazing at the remote.
"Let the show… begin." He pressed the power button on the remote, which instantly woke up Connor just as Hank returned from the break room.
"Hey, Connor. I thought you were doing that self-check thing?" The gruff detective noticed. The android tried to move his body, but only his head could turn to his will.
"I was. I don't know what happ-" He was interrupted when Gavin discreetly pressed another button on the high-tech remote. Connor unwillingly shot out of his chair and smacked the coffee out of Hank's hand, spilling the liquid everywhere.
"Connor, what the fuck?!"
"I apologize, Hank. I don't know what's come over me," the android frantically apologized as he attempted to help clean up the mess he made, but once again his limbs were not cooperating with anything. The officers in the background began snickering once Connor smoothly picked up the garbage bin at the corner of Hank's desk and flipped it on his head, spilling the contents inside all over him.
"Woah, is this some weird glitch with your programming?" The older detective worriedly looked at his friend, who seemed to be rocking the new headwear. He didn't want to admit that aloud, but it was a little funny.
"I believe something has corrupted my programs to disable my ability to control my movements. I detect an unknown file in my database but I cannot seem to expel it," Connor hurriedly explained. Gavin made the deviant run into multiple walls of the precinct and trip over many chairs and obstacles, humoring the audience even more.
Even Hank couldn't help but chuckle as the android moonwalked and spun around in the center of the precinct before breaking into a full dance. "I don't know if this is a problem. It looks like you know how to breakdance too."
"Help me!" Connor took off the trash can from his head, his face no longer calm as it usually was as he struck a pose. It was obvious how freaked out he was. But his fear turned to frustration when he heard the officers burst out laughing when he started dancing around like a ballerina.
"What is going on here?!" Captain Fowler's voice boomed throughout the precinct, immediately stopping everyone's fun. His eyes landed on the deviant doing the splits on the floor. "Connor, office. Now!"
Gavin and Tina snickered quietly at their desks.
"Watch this," Gavin whispered to his partner before holding down a button that had a small microphone on it and spoke quietly into the remote. In return, Connor spoke his words aloud.
"I'm a pretty princess in all of my kingdom. Bow down and kiss my ass, old man!"
Silence settled the room. But then everyone exploded in laughter. They banged on the tables and held onto each other to keep themselves from falling. No one has ever heard the deviant say such a thing, and he said it with so much confidence too. It was too much for anyone to take seriously.
But the Captain was having none of it, even if he was a little amused. He marched from his glass office to stand in front of the deviant, who seemed to be on the verge of a total embarrassment meltdown.
"That's no way to speak to your Captain. What's gotten into you and I want an explanation this instant!" Fowler glared at Connor.
"I'm sorry, Captain Fowler but-" he stopped short of his rapid apology when Gavin began to put words into his mouth (quite literally). The deviant leaned back, put a hand on his hip, and snapped his fingers in front of Fowler's face. "- but who do you think you are?"
"Excuse me?" The room tried to get ahold of their laughter to hear the conversation better. "You know what? I'll pretend you never said that. Just quiet down and get to work."
Connor continued to speak in perfect mimicry to a southern woman. "Oh no, honey. You did not just tell me to shut up. Boy, has your momma ever taught you manners? Nuh-uh, no siree. This will not do! I'll tell ya, if I heard my old bastard of a partner speak to me like that, ooh! He'll get a whooping of a lifetime."
Even Hank burst out laughing amongst the rest of the officers, caring little about the insult. Connor was blushing madly, his blue tint spreading all the way across his cheeks to his ears. The deviant took the opportunity when his body wasn't being controlled to scan the room of any potential items that might be the cause of his predicament.
Immediately his processors picked up the source of his misery.
NEW MISSION:
Destroy Gavin Reed
Gavin was pressing as many buttons as he could, oblivious to the internal planning of his death courtesy of the furious deviant. He had been messed with so many things that the chip he inserted inside the android began to overheat.
Connor was practically running around the precinct looking like a total buffoon before smoke escaped from the back of his neck. He made it by the center of the room again until the chip shorted out his circuits, sending him into a small emergency stasis mode.
"C-Connor?" Hank staggered over in between his fit of chuckles. The deviant didn't respond – he just stood completely still with his head tilted down.
"What the hell happened?" Gavin shouted over to them, while not-so-subtly smacking the remote in his hands.
"I think he… shut off?" Hank shrugged, his little knowledge of androids becoming obvious to everyone. The precinct stood quietly as they waited for the funny android to restart.
Not a minute later, Connor lifted his head and slowly reached behind his neck to remove the evil chip. His eyes snapped open to stare at the piece of technology before dropping it on the floor and crushing the item beneath his feet.
"Connor? You okay?" Hank approached his friend and laid a hand on his shoulder, but he immediately flinched away when he got burned. He looked up and spotted the rage burning in Connor's soft brown eyes.
He never would have thought that Connor's blood actually boils when he's pissed. He always thought that it was a metaphorical expression.
The atmosphere in the room changed instantly: once it was playful but now it was dangerous.
Gavin was cursing under his breath, desperately trying to reconnect the remote with the chip, not noticing the deviant that he was previously controlling now stood looming over him.
"G-Gavin?" Tina whispered, her voice quivering in playful fear as she tried to desperately hide her grin. The young arrogant detective turned to her but once she glanced in front of him, he turned and immediately shrunk back.
Connor stood there towering over his desk, arms crossed and a vicious glare settled on his face.
"T-Tinman!" Gavin chuckled as he scrambled to get rid of the remote, but Connor latched onto his wrist and easily pried the object out of his hands. The man grinned innocently as he felt dread pool in his stomach. "Um, w-what's up?"
Connor narrowed his eyes before easily crushing the vile remote in one hand, keeping the other latched onto Gavin's wrist.
"Hello, Detective Reed," the deviant said. His voice was quiet and even, but it was loud enough so that everyone in the room could hear his growl. "I see that you have taken quite an interest in my program."
Gavin chuckled nervously.
"Perhaps you would like to try it yourself?" The precinct snickered but the poor young detective could only gulp in fear.
This was not going to be good.
"Don't you think you're taking this a little too far, Connor?"
"Of course not, Hank. He needs to learn his actions come with consequences. That is what I learned during my deviancy."
"Yeah," the gruff detective snorted. "But do you have to make him do that?"
Connor smirked as he cockily propped his legs up at the corner of his desk and leaned back in his chair, watching Gavin return from the supermarket a few miles away with a bottle of Thirium in his hands. The young detective had a massive blush on his face, but that didn't seem to be the most noticeable thing about him.
The French maid outfit he was wearing definitely took the cake.
Gavin hurriedly strolled through the precinct, receiving snorts and head shakes from his coworkers, before standing in front of Connor's desk and slammed the bottle of blue liquid down.
"Anything else, Connor?" Gavin snarled with his fists clenched at his sides. He hated this. He hated Connor. He hated Captain Fowler ordering him to be that android's slave for punishment for the rest of the day. ('Do what he tells you, or it's your badge!' He had said.) He hated his life. But the deviant hummed in thought seemed to think about the question he already knew the answer to.
"Hmmm… oh!" His eyes lit up and a sinister grin graced his usually calm face, sending a chill down the detective's spine. "I need you to go investigate a crime scene."
Gavin looked surprised but he immediately narrowed his eyes in suspicion. "What's the catch?"
"All that you have to do is wear your outfit, nothing more," he chuckled lightly. Hank hid his smirk as he knew well where his friend was going to send the obnoxious man. Connor's L.E.D flashes yellow before returning to blue. "I have sent the address to your phone. You better get a move on, detective. You wouldn't want to keep the mystery waiting."
Gavin felt his phone vibrate before spinning around and began stomping away to his new objective.
"Oh, and Gavin?" The man paused, seething every second he heard the deviant speak to him. "Don't try to evade my command. I'll know and you'll regret it."
Gavin continued his march and off to his car. Once he arrived and sat in his driver's seat, he let out every curse word known to man. He growled dangerously before starting his car and sped away to the designated address.
When he arrived, Gavin immediately noticed the lack of officers. But the holographic police tape was there, so he thought nothing of it. He tightly wrapped his jacket around him in an attempt to hide his horrendous outfit. Technically, he didn't take it off.
'Beat that, you plastic prick!' He thought as he searched the alleyway for the body. However, near the middle was a podium with a small box on it. Gavin opened it without a problem and grabbed the note inside.
'Let this be a lesson, Gavin. Don't attempt to surpass me again. Heed my warning.'
Gavin felt a shiver down his spine. But then he heard something clank above him. The next thing he knew, he was covered head to toe with pink paint. He heard a snap of a camera taking a photo. The detective growled furiously as he wiped the gunk off his face, but his eyes immediately landed on a video camera in front of him.
Then it clicked.
This was live. Then another mechanism pulled and he realized he was standing in another trap. Suddenly, his world flipped 180 degrees, and felt all the blood rush to his head. He gritted his teeth as his jacket fell from his shoulders to expose his maid outfit, which he needed to hold down before it revealed too much. A rope was mockingly tied to his feet, suspending him up a few feet in the air for who knows how long.
"CONNOR!"
He could almost see that stupid smug grin of the deviant. From then on, Gavin regretted his decision. He may not believe that androids are better than humans.
But they sure as hell know how to get revenge.
THE END
