Chapter 6: A New Friend
As Kagome just looks outside the bus window, she lost herself in thought that Sango got on. "Hey." Sango next to her. Kagome blinks her eyes to turn to see Sango panting a little. "You okay?" She asks first. "I was about to do my cleaning duty until another student decided to do my task. SO I'm off the hook." Sango waves it off. Knowing the distance between the buses and the spot where a student needs to clean was definitely a far distance. 'It's no wonder Sango is panting.' Kagome thought to herself.
"So what are you doing when you get home?" Sango asks as the bus leaves the school grounds. "I have to finish up my stuff and put away a few things." Kagome casually answers the question. "Maybe I can help you out. I have nothing planned this afternoon." Sango offers nicely. "I don't want to be rude or anything, I'm not ready for guests yet. We just had the Takahashis visiting and bought us dinner because it was tradition." Kagome explains to her. Sango shows an understanding expression. "Yeah I remembered when I moved there a few years ago, that family offered us dinner our first night." Sango remembers it big time.
"But if I were to know any better, the Takahashi Family is the only one in the neighborhood that hasn't moved. Everyone else has either moved in or more out of the neighborhood for obvious reasons. So in other words, they've been there the longest." She explains to Kagome. Kagome never thought of that. True there's a few families who would pass down the house to the next generation of the family line. So much of the talking that the bus has made it to their stop by the corner of the street. The bus let's out the students who lives in this neighborhood. Kagome and Sango walk down the empty street until they see their house in view. "Maybe when I'm finished, I can invite you over." Kagome suggests. Sango nods.
"Oh there you are, Kagome." Ai calls out to her. "Hey, mom." Kagome responds. "Who do we have here?" Ai smiles towards Sango. "Mom, this is Sango Taijiya, one of the neighbors here. Sango this is my mother, Ai Higurashi." Kagome introduces them to each other. "It's very nice to meet you Mrs. Higurashi." Sango bows to her. "Please, call me Ai. And it's nice to meet you too. Would you like to come in?" Ai offers Sango. Kagome blinks. "But do we have more things to put away?" Ai waves it off. "It's not brother, dear. Besides it's important to meet the entire neighborhood. So far we met the Takahashi Family. And now we're meeting Sango's family. Where are they anyway?"
Sango takes a deep breathe before answering. "I'm the only one home for the time being, my dad is the soccer coach that my little brother is playing in. So they won't be home for awhile." She tells the mother. "Oh, well you're more than welcome to come over." Ai invites her. Sango smiles. "I'll be right over. I just need to get a few things taken care." She runs off. Ai nods. "You made a new friend today. That's wonderful." Ai smiles down at her daughter.
Kagome on the other doesn't know if she really did. From the looks of it, it would appear that she did despite for what happened on her first day of school. She walks inside to see what needs to be taken care of. "Do you have a few more boxes to unpack?" Ai asks Kagome. "I was going to ask you the same thing." Kagome looks at her. "Today is a day off. We went through a lot of things to pack up, move here and put away." She points out. Kagome nods as she goes upstairs to put her backpack in her bedroom.
From the looks of her bedroom so far, the room is almost finished. All she needs to do is to put up a few pictures onto the wall. Her mirror was hanging on the door. Her closet is almost full with her clothes and trinkets. The one idea is to put her dress in there since there's enough room so she stay organized. A knock on her door gets her attention. "Hey there." Sango greets. "Oh hey there." Kagome smiles back. "I have to admit you have an amazing bedroom here." Sango compliments the layout. Kagome giggles. "Not just yet. I have a few things to put away around here." She and Sango spend some quality time together. At one point, Sango told Kagome that she wanted to be a hair dresser and Kagome would be the perfect girl to practice a few things. That is if Kagome allows it though.
Sango looks at the clock on Kagome's nightstand. "I have to go. My dad and little will be home soon. I'll see you tomorrow." Sango leaves the room and out of the house in record time. Kagome was shocked to see how fast Sango can sprint. "Kagome, dinner's ready." Ai shouts from downstairs. "I'll be right down." Kagome calls back to her. Kagome has to admit that today is a good day for sure. Kagome heads down to the kitchen to see that Ai has brought out the leftovers of the dinner that the Takahashi Family bought them last night.
After reheating the food, Hige, and Sota come into the kitchen. "I smell some good food." Hige smiles as he sees the plates. "Well it's the leftovers. Nothing more." Ai comments back as she sets the plate with his portions on it to his spot of the dining room table. Sota gets into his spot by Hige followed by Ai and then Kagome. "So how was your first day of school, Sota?" Ai asks the kid. "I had a great day. I made it to the soccer team already." Sota spoke after swallowing his food. "Oh who's your coach?" Kagome asks him this time. Sota thinks for a second. "I think it was Mr. Taijiya." He answers the question. "Did you know that he's one of our neighbors." Kagome smirks at him. Sota smirks back. "Oh yes. You see one of my new friends is Kohaku. Who happens to be Mr. Taijiya's son." He keeps the smug look. Kagome smirks back. "What a coincidence. My new friend is Sango who happens to be Kohaku's older sister. She just told me about her father being the soccer coach." Sota just laughs playfully.
Later that night, the street lights dim out the area in an elegant glow. As such the lights from the houses have been turned off since it's time for the families to go to sleep and get ready for another day. Sango is in her room about to go to sleep until her cell phone dings silently so that it wouldn't wake up her brother and father. 'How did it go?' The text showed on the screen. Sango sees that it's Miroku who's trying to get a hold of her for the evening. Sango texted at a fast rate and sends it back.
"I had to warn him or maybe blackmail. Thanks for telling me." Miroku read to himself as he gets ready for bed. He's in a pair of purple pj pants and a black t-shirt. "Blackmail? What did you do?" Miroku texts back to Sango. A few seconds later his phone vibrates. "I stealthily grabbed his cell phone. And made a duplicate of it." The text showed with an evil emoji after it. Miroku groans. If there's one thing he can't do is to be on Sango's bad side. He did by accident and by then he had to behave around her. "JK." A new text popped. Miroku sighs in relief. "Seriously Sango, you didn't have to do that." Miroku texts to her.
Sango rolls her eyes. "My point exactly, Miroku. If there's one thing that I don't want is to have Kagome go through a horrible moment. My other idea was to mess with Koga's schedule so that he doesn't have any of them with Kagome." She texts him. They just met Kagome, and the first task is to make her feel welcomed, not scared. But ever since Koga made his appearance in her science, Kagome was back in her shell, not to be hurt ever again.
