Chapter 9: Learning the Hard Way

Sango gets into her house. "I'm home, father." She calls out to him. "In here, Sango." Her father calls back from the living room. "How was your day, father?" Sango tries her best to be cherry as possible. And hopes that it holds out. "It was fine. I got to go home the afternoon." Her father responds as he puts down the newspaper he was reading through. "Really? But why though?" Sango asks as she takes a seat on the couch. "It turns out that our game has been cancelled due to an upcoming storm this afternoon. And it's not allowed to play our games in that kind of weather." Her father explains to her.

"Oh. But where's Kohaku though?" Sango asks a few minutes later. "Oh he had to stay after school to clean up the building." Her father answers the question. "He won't be home until about a half and hour. I just have to go pick him up from there though." Sango didn't see that coming. "But isn't there a bus that takes them home after school?" She asks him. "Yes there is but I wanted to do it because it turns out that Kohaku doesn't like to be on the bus with the older kids." Her father explains the reason.

Sango nods to show him that she understands. "Other than that, I got a call from your school." He spoke in a stern voice. 'Uh oh. Here we go.' Sango thought in fear, but she made sure that her expression is calm. "Apparently the faculty has told me that you were trying to do something behind their backs." He keeps his stern look. "Can you tell me what you were trying to do?" Leans forwards with his arms crossed. Sango sighs, "I was trying to hack into their data to change a student's schedule." She honestly replies to him.

As she waits for him to react to her answer, all he does is sigh. "Sango, do you know how much trouble you gotten yourself into." Sango nod. "Yes. I was trying to do that because a student is after my new friend and she's scared of him." She explains to him. Her father shakes his head. "Sango, I know about your rebellious nature when it comes to situations like. You were just trying to protect her from that student. But you have no right whatsoever to hack into the school's data and mess around with that student's schedule. Besides it's the beginning of the year and whenever a student get their schedule, it's absolute. Even if you tried to do something like that, it wouldn't work." He explains to her.

"I guess that means I'm not good enough to do such a thing. I thought I was doing the right thing." Sango sighs in defeat. "From your perspective Sango. You would thing that what you do is the right thing. However, for everyone else, they think it's the wrong thing to do." She nods again. "So what's my punishment?" She asks him nervously. Her father thinks for a second. "From a situation of hacking into the computer. A possible cleaning the school for the first semester." He said to her seriously. "And no phone for a week."

Just hearing the last part made Sango groans as she digs into her purse and hands over the phone to him. As soon as the father receives the phone, he gives her a flip phone instead. "What's this?" She asks him in surprise. "Isn't it obvious. That's your sub. The only thing is works are phone calls only from me. I had to shut down your regular one to activate this one. So if any of your friends try to contact you, your regular will get it. The only thing you can do is to explain that your phone is being repaired in the shop and this is the only thing you can use for the time being." He explains to her thoroughly. "Fine." She accepts the substitute phone and leaves the living room to go upstairs.

Kagome comes into the living room. "I'm home." She calls out to her mother. Ai was just reading a book she just ordered the other day before moving to the new house. "Welcome home, dear." Ai smiles but frowns to see something off. "What's wrong, Kagome?" She asks her daughter. Kagome doesn't say anything. Ai pats a spot next to her. "Come here. Talk to me." She encourages sweetly. Kagome does sit down and lies onto her mother's shoulder. "Tell me what's wrong sweetie." Ai strokes her daughter's hair, which surprisingly calms her. "Koga's at my school." She tells her mother.

Ai remains as calm as she can, knowing how angry she is about that guy. "How did he get there? I thought that he was supposed to be at the other school from the old town we lived in." She asks gently. "That's what I thought so too. But somehow he was able to get into my school. Mom, I just don't feel safe around him." She whimpers. All Ai can do is to say comforting words to Kagome. If there's one thing she doesn't want Kagome to be is to be afraid. "Why don't you go through any of your boxes in the basement to see if anything is worth bringing up to your room." She suggests Kagome. Kagome nods and leaves the living room.

Kagome goes down to the basement. She can see it's very spacious around. She spots the washer and dryer in one corner, along the power box right by it. She turns around to spot the remaining boxes that haven't been opened up yet. She goes to the ones that have her name on them. After browsing them all, nothing seems interesting enough to be taken to her bedroom. She heads back upstairs to go into her bedroom. She feels so tired from today she decides to take a nap. She changes into her green floral pj pants and a red lynx shirt on and gets under the covers to fall asleep.

As soon as Kagome left the living room, Ai resumes her book. It doesn't take long until her husband comes in. "I'm home, Ai." Hige calls out to her. He walks in to see Ai with a concerned look. "What's the matter, Ai?" Hige asks her as he sits next to her. "It's Koga. He's at Kagome's school." Ai answers as gently as she could. "I see. But how was it that he got there in the first place?" Hige is controlling his temper to a very minimum so not to scare Ai. "Your guess is as good as mine. For now we just needs to get used to the new home. Where's Sota by the way?" Ai answers him.

"He's staying after school to clean up the place." Hige turns to her. "Oh. I guess Sota is the first one to be chosen to do cleaning duty." Ai jokes. Hige chuckles. "Yeah. As such he's off the hook for cleaning up after dinner." He couldn't keep his smirk from forming on his face. "Any idea when he'll be home." Ai asks him curiously. "Maybe in the next hour. A bus will bring him home." Hige replies back to her as he looks up to his phone to see that it's only 4:00 pm. "I can wait till he gets home so I can make dinner for them." Ai offers. Hige nods. "Yes, that's a good idea. I can wait for him by the bus stop when he gets dropped off." Hige agrees with her completely. "Where's Kagome?" Hige asks her a few minutes later. "She's upstairs. I bet she's napping. She had a long day after encountering Koga." Ai answers him. Hige knows for sure that Kagome is still scared of him. There's no telling what tomorrow will bring.
