Chapter 10: Unheard Music
As soon as Kagome fell asleep on her bed, the locket she found in her closet and then she puts it into her nightstand drawer begin to play a tune. As the tune hums away, Kagome opens her eyes but instead of her lively chocolate brown, they look red from being in a trance. She gets out of her bed and opens up the drawer and pulls out the locket. 'Take me to him.' A voice echoes into her head. Kagome obeys the voice and does as she is told. She even puts it on around her neck, and leaves her bedroom.
Back at Inuyasha's house, Inuyasha is doing his homework on his desk, trying to complete some of the assignments. But then a tune is being played. However it's not coming from anywhere in his house, thanks to his sense of hearing. 'Wait a minute. I know this.' Inuyasha remembers something. He looks outside throw his window to see Kagome coming out of her house in her pjs pants and t-shirt, not the outfit she was wearing today. 'Take me to my love.' The echo speaks to Kagome eerily. Inuyasha looks closely to see something around Kagome's neck. 'Oh no.' He widens his eyes and goes outside quickly.
Kagome continues on walking, 'Take me to him.' The voice keeps repeating the phrase over and over again. Kagome keeps on going to a house. More specifically, Inuyasha's house. Inuyasha bolts out of the house through the front door. 'There he is.' The voice speaks in delight. "Kagome!" Inuyasha shouts as he gets to her. 'Hug him.' The voice commands Kagome. As Inuyasha takes hold of Kagome's shoulders, Kagome's arms wrap around Inuyasha's body. "Inuyasha." A different voice speaks through Kagome's mouth.
Inuyasha recognizes the voice. He then notices that the locket around Kagome's neck. He quickly grabs the locket and throws it onto the concrete. As soon as the locket is removed from Kagome's neck, Kagome is free from the trance. "Oh, what happened?" Kagome drops to the ground feeling so weak all of sudden. Inuyasha grabs her to prevent the fall onto her knees. She holds her heads from some pain she doesn't know of. "Kagome what was the last thing you remember?" Inuyasha asks her. Kagome looks up to him. "I was going to take a nap. And then I'm out here. What happened? What did I do?" Kagome asks him.
Inuyasha turns to the locket. Kagome follows his gazed to spot the locket on the ground. "That thing was controlling you." Inuyasha answers the question. Kagome didn't see this coming. "The locket? I thought it was just an ordinary piece of jewelry." Kagome said as she is about to take, but Inuyasha grabs hold of her wrist to stop her. "Don't. That thing is cursed." He seriously said to her. Kagome has never seen Inuyasha this way before. "How is it cursed?" She boldly asks him. But then Inuyasha doesn't say a thing. "What is it?" Kagome progresses him to speak, but he remains silent.
"Kagome, what are you doing out here?" Hige asks as he comes out of the house. Inuyasha quickly releases her wrist. "I don't know, dad." She replies to her. Hige comes up to her. He immediately crosses his arms. "Care to explain what's been going on?" He asks Inuyasha suspiciously. "Nothing, sir." Inuyasha stands up and runs into his house. "Kagome…" Hige turns to Kagome, but she's been long gone, probably back into the house. Hige knows that something's going on between the two. But for now he needs to go to the bus stop and wait for his son to get off the bus.
Kagome bolts into her room and closes the door behind. "What on earth was that all about?" She asks herself. Never did she ever expect to find herself outside without remembering anything when she was napping. 'That thing is cursed.' Inuyasha's voice reminds her about the locket. Kagome had no idea that the locket she found in her closet when she moved here was cursed to begin with. She's still tired to recall from that event. So she decides to go back to sleep.
Inuyasha waits until Hige and his son go into their house. When the coast is clear, he a zip lock bag from the kitchen and then goes outside to get the locket off the ground. To make sure hee doesn't touch it, he puts his hand into the zip lock bag inside out and the picks up the locket and closes it quickly. 'There's no way Kagome is going to be your victim.' He tells the locket even if the locket can respond back to him. He goes back into the house to see that Izayoi is by the door. "Why did you go outside?" She asks him. All Inuyasha does is show the locket in the bag. "Where did you find this?" She was able to ask him. Inuyasha shakes his head. "It wasn't me who found it. Kagome did." He corrects the error of his mother's question.
Izayoi widens her eyes. "It couldn't be…" She managed to speak. "Oh it could. And it possessed Kagome." Inuyasha explains to her. Izayoi is now very concerned. "We have to get rid of this thing immediately." She said as she is about to take the bag, but Inuyasha pulls it away from his mother. "Not yet. I have to tell Kagome about this. All I told her that it was cursed." Izayoi knew this was going to happen eventually. "You have to tell her about that locket Inuyasha. She deserves to know the secret about it." She suggests it to him. "Not just yet. The first thing she'll be asking is just that. I can't let her know anything about this. She's not ready. She just moved here. Let her take her time in this area. When the time is right, I'll tell her."
Back at Kagome's bedroom, Hige is in there with her. "Kagome, you need to tell me what exactly happened." He tells her as gently as possible so that he wouldn't intimidate her. Kagome takes a deep breath. "I was napping and then all of all sudden I was in Inuyasha's yard. I have no idea what happened in between the two point." She explains to him. Hige looks around the room to see if anything was not in the ordinary, but then he spots the drawer of her nightstand left open. "Do you know anything that you put in there?" He asks her.
Kagome looks at the opened drawer, then realizes what she put in there before she took her nap. ' the locket.' She thinks to herself in shock. "Kagome…" Hige takes hold of her shoulder to get her out of her thoughts. "Sorry. I don't remember what I put in there." She calmly lies to him. Hige knows that she's lying, but decides to let her fib stay put until she feels ready to tell him the true. He can tell that she doesn't want to talk about it because it's more of a personal subject. "Okay. Just come down for dinner." He tells her as he leaves the room.
Kagome doesn't like to lie to her father. She knows what happens whenever she does that. She gets grounded for a week. But then again, Hige decided to let that be until she's ready to tell him the truth. Her phone dings to tell her that a text has arrived. She opens the phone to see that's a text from Inuyasha. "Are you free tonight?" The text tells her. "I will after dinner. Why?" She texted back. A few seconds later a new text pops up. "I have to tell you about the locket that you wore." Kagome is surprised that Inuyasha more about the locket than she let him on. "Ok. I'll be out by 8:00 pm. Can you meet me by that time?" Kagome texted him. "Sure." Inuyasha texted back immediately. "Ok if you excuse me, I have to go down to have dinner with my family. Later." Kagome gives her final text and heads off.
