Chapter 16: Parental Agreement
After dinner, Kagome backs up to her bedroom to make sure that all of her homework is completed since she had to help Inuyasha out with his math homework. She doesn't blame him. Each student has their own troubles when it comes to a subject at school that either he or she don't understand. So far she's done all of them so she's free to do whatever she wants until she has to go to bed. Thinking of what to do to pass the time, she decides to go through her closet where she found the locket the other. She clears out the spot to see if there's anything else that she probably missed. She rubs the floor to feel any bumps as if there's something hidden underneath. Nothing. He phone chimes to alert her.
She comes out to see it's a text from Inuyasha. 'Are you finished with the catalog yet? My dad wants it back immediately.' The text shows Kagome. 'Yeah, I'm finished however my dad isn't happy about what that thing provided me.' Kagome texts back at him. 'Meet me at the patio.' She add the next one. 'Coming.' Inuyasha replies quickly. Kagome comes down to the kitchen and spots the catalog on the countertop. She grabs it and runs outside to the patio.
Kagome closes the door behind her to make sure her parents don't see her. "Hey." Inuyasha comes up to the patio to retrieve the catalog. However, Kagome pulls it back. "What's the problem?" He asks him in surprise. "Remember when I told you about my dad not happy about this?" Kagome asks as she makes sure that she keeps the catalog out of Inuyasha's reach. "What about it?" Inuyasha asks her. Kagome, "I thought that our dads discuss about this. Because whatever questions he asked me, I don't have the answers." She explains to him. Inuyasha nods. "I see. To be frank with you, I had a hunch that this would happen." He rubs the back of his neck.
"So you knew about this? And you didn't say anything?" Kagome crosses her arms in a look of anger. Inuyasha waves his hands in defense. "Hey I didn't want to because it would've been obvious. Besides I'm aware about the bond between father daughter is like. Sango went through the same thing when she told her father about this. And believe me, her father was not even pleased." Kagome just sighs. "Fine. But I think that somehow our dads feel like they're not needed for something like this. And they don't like it one bit." She said to him. Inuyasha gestures the catalog back. "Here. But like I said we should have our dads to discuss about this." As she gives the catalog back to him. "I'll tell him." Inuyasha pats her shoulder and leaves the patio to get back to his house.
Inuyasha gets back into his dad's office to put the catalog back into the drawer it was stored in. "What do you think you're doing?" Inutaishou leans onto the doorframe seeing his son in his office. "I was just putting the catalog back into the drawer nothing more." Inuyasha answers casually. "Ok, so what did Kagome say about this offer?" Inutaishou believes the answer then ask his next question. "Well for starters, he dad isn't like this idea one bit." Inuyasha answers the questions as he stands back up from being on his knees when he was putting the catalog away. Inutaishou keeps his expression. "Typical. I had a hunch that Mr. Higurashi would be like this." He comments as he waits for Inuyasha to come out of the office.
"I knew you'd be like that. That's what Sango's dad was like. Besides you're trying to break a father-daughter bond between the two pairs." Inuyasha retorts to him. "All I'm trying to do is to help out. I'm a generous man." Inutaishou leans into his son's face. "Oh, if that's what you think, you might as well talk to Kagome's dad to see if he's going to be exactly like Sango's dad when you gave her the offer for her dream car." Inuyasha glares at him.
Inutaishou grins, thus confuses Inuyasha. "Such a wonderful idea. I should invite them for a bar-b-que this weekend. We can get to the bottom of this issue." Inuyasha groans knowing where this is going. And from what he went through the last time wasn't so good. "You will tell Kagome and Sango about this first thing in the morning. No excuses, ifs, ands, or buts about it. "Understand?" Inutaishou asks him adamantly. "Yes." Inuyasha obeys with nod. "Good. Now off to bed with you." Inutaishou grins as he pats his son's head and leaves him to his bedroom.
The next morning, Inuyasha gets to the bus stop to see only Miroku at the location. "Hey." Inuyasha shouts out to his friend. "Morning, Inuyasha. What's up?" Miroku puts his phone into his hoodie zip pocket. "My dad has gotten Kagome's dad on a frenzy." That's the only thing Inuyasha said to him so far. "It's the catalog wasn't it?" Miroku asks in confidence. He can remember the last time his guardian was offer the opportunity. The guardian was very reluctant to say at the least. "It shouldn't be an issue with our folks to be put into an uncomfortable position." Miroku said with his arms across his chest. "Tell me about it. My dad is doing them a favor to say at the least." Inuyasha mimics his friend's posture. "But how would that feel for the person who's been asked about it?" Miroku asks him curiously.
It takes Inuyasha a few seconds to come with a theoretical answer. "Some would think it's ok, and some don't. And some have other ways to respond to it." Miroku nods understandingly at least. "And from what my guardian, Sango's dad and Kagome's dad's reactions were on the negative side." He reminds Inuyasha. "And why is it that?" Inuyasha asks him with a raised eyebrow. "Think about it, Inuyasha." Miroku speaks up. "The offer your dad gave them was beyond their expectations, as well as financial." Inuyasha looks down the street to see that they live in such a nice neighborhood. There's not a single house that would be more pricier than another. "And your point is…" Inuyasha asks slowly in the end. "The point is that it's the parents themselves who should be doing the buying the car for your kid thing. Not some crazy rich man who just offer their kid the car of their dream and have him pay for it in full." Miroku explains to him thoroughly.
Inuyasha has to admit that Miroku is right about this. His own father shouldn't waste his money to buy his friends nice vehicles when they turn sixteen. It's the parents that's supposed to do that. Sure they have the money for themselves to buy such a thing, but it would have to fit into their own budget and not turn to Inutaishou as if he's a loan shark. Not to mention, this neighborhood isn't what the school would consider them popular. None of them want to be popular to say at the least. For Inuyasha can think why that is, is because it's too much of a distraction. "Morning, you two." Kagome and Sango come up to them.
"Morning, ladies." Miroku grins as he is about to come up to Sango, until Inuyasha grabs his hoodie and pull him back. "Don't even think about it, Miroku. Remember the last time you tried that stunt on Sango." Inuyasha leers at him dangerously. Miroku knew for sure what Inuyasha's talking about and his obvious excuse is his 'cursed' hand that is doing on its own instead. "Anyway, Kagome, Sango. What are your dads doing this weekend?" Inuyasha steps forth to them. "Nothing, I guess. Why?" Kagome answers him. "My dad thought it would be nice if your two would join him for a bar-b-que." Inuyasha suggests to them. Sango and Kagome looked at each other before looking at him. "What's going on here, Inuyasha. Don't tell me that this isn't one of your old stunts you're trying to pull here." Sango suspiciously said to him.
"Not even close. It was my dad's idea since Kagome showed her parents the catalog I let her borrow last night to see what they think about it. I remember how your dad was against my dad's suggestion." Inuyasha explains to the girls. "True, my dad was not very happy about when your dad showed him the catalog. Besides, Kagome and I still have a few more weeks to turn sixteen." Soon enough the bus arrived to pick them up and take them to school.
