Gia's P.O.V.

It was just another morning on the Island, Kayo had gone over to the GDF to give them an update on the current search for the Hood, Virgil and Gordon had gone over to Alaska to handle a burst pipeline and Alan was annoying John again. "Alan, leave John alone and get back to your studies" I said but he just huffed and went back to the computer. I grabbed the cup of coffee I had just made for Scott and headed upstairs to the living room. "Morning sweetie" I said cheerfully.

"Morning G" Scott said looking up from the hologram that had the most recent reports from what Intel my brother could get, but the boys did not know that I just told them I had good connections with a few people in the FBI.

"I made you a coffee" I said putting it down on the desk. Scott kissed my cheek as I leant over to see what had got him so worried. "Why are you looking at those old files about my parents?" I asked curiously.

"I was hoping to see if anything they worked on, you know the…the…" Scott started.

"The Prototype Z series fighter jets. Scott the air force shut that down after their deaths and the only way for them to even get the plans is to open my parents will" I stated.

"And they died a decade ago G and you still cling to the hope that they miraculously survived" he said.

"And don't you still cling to the hope that your father is alive, somewhere out there hoping to see you and your brothers again" I countered, "And my parents Will can only be accessed by the firstborn child and my parents did try before they had me, but it ended in a stillbirth. Either way I'm not their firstborn child" I informed him. Scott just sighed in defeat John's hologram soon appeared and he looked a bit smug.

"Did you wait until we finished, again?" Scott asked.

"Yes, I did, and we have a situation" John said. We both came down to holo-projection of the situation that was going on, "A train that is on a test run and the engineer that is on board has lost control and nothing is responding".

"That's lucky. But what about the passenger train?" Scott asked. I could not help but start to worry.

"Filled to capacity" John replied.

"Doesn't anyone drive anymore?" Scott enquired.

"Scott, do you have any idea how expensive fuel is and that it costs a lot of money to charge an electric car these days" I replied.

"Plus, mass transit is cheaper and with magnetic levitation…" John started before Scott interrupted him.

"Sorry I forgot to use my trying to make a joke voice" Scott apologised but I just glared that I would normally give to Alan and Gordon when they were fooling around, "Is there any way to divert it?" He asked.

"Not easily. It's a specialised track, so there aren't a lot of spur lines and even if there were do you know what would happen if it went off the rails at that speed?"

"The train would crash and explode" I stated.

"But what cutting the power?" Scott suggested.

"Oh no you couldn't do that" Brains said as he walked into the living room with M.A.X. right beside him.

"Why not Brains?" Scott enquired.

"Because it would be like hitting a brick wall" Brains and I said at the same time.

"You have to turn down the power gradually" Brains added.

"And how do you do that?" Scott asked and I looked at Brains eagerly to see how you may do that since I have only ever studied the theoretical side of physics.

"You just reconfigure the power distribution in the train's conduction nodes" He stated as he walked away, and Scott tried to stop him, "Simple."

"But" Scott humped, "He's always doing that."

"And you said my habits were had to get rid of" I mocked. I did not notice that Alan had snuck upstairs from the kitchen until he said.

"Scott can I…" Alan started before he got cut off by his older brother.

"No!" Scott stated getting annoyed.

"Gordon and Virgil are still in Alaska" Alan started.

"We know that they are still on a rescue but right now you need to get back to your studies" I said getting up from where I was sat.

"And we both know you have midterms coming up and if you continue to fall behind you can't go on any more rescues" Scott reminded him.

"There you are, trying to save the world again, no doubt" Grandma Tracy stated.

"It's an emergency grandma" Alan tried to reason with her.

"The only emergency I see is you being grounded until you're caught up with your studies, and you know what that means?" I asked the rebellious 16-year-old.

"No rescues" Alan sulked.'

"Gia's right Alan. Education is just as important as saving lives. Don't look so hangdog, I'm going to make you a nice dinner when you're done" Grandma said.

"Diner" Alan said with an absolute look of disgust on his face.

"Oh, and I made you some cookies for you; whist you study" she said revealing a plate of burnt chocolate chip cookies.

"Help me" He whispered.

"Sorry I have a train to catch" Scott said.

"And I have a meeting to get to" I said quickly exiting the room, "Oh and Alan if you finish your lessons and catch up, I will make you some hot chocolate later. I promise" I said before heading up to mine and Scott's room to go and set up my laptop for the meeting. But it was not a meeting it was more of passing on a message from my brother to an old friend. Travis Dane. I started the video call and had to wait about a minute before he even picked up. "Took you long enough" I remarked.

"Well, you were always better at excuses than me" Travis teased, "So, has he got in contact with you?" He asked.

"Yeah, about 2 weeks ago. You know when the…" I started.

"…Luddites shut the power off across the whole of London, I was there at the time, and it was absolute chaos at the hospital where I work" Travis finished.

"That must have been rough on you and everyone that works there" I said, "You are your colleagues must have tried to save everyone you could."

"We tried to save everyone. I feel like I failed so many people that day, them, and their families" Travis said with a look of sadness on his face.

"Hey, don't get disheartened, one thing that I have defiantly learned over the years working with International Rescue is that you can't save everyone you just save who you can" I told Travis.

"By any chance did Jeff Tracy tell you that?" He asked.

"Yes, he did, and do you want my brothers' letter or not because we can chat all day but I know more than well that you have to be on a flight to Ireland so you can start working at Mercy hospital" I reminded him.

"Yes, wait how did you know that?" Travis asked, Gia just smirked at him, "I thought we agreed no more hacking my phone, Gianna"

"Don't call me Gianna" Gia yelled, "Do you want the message or not?"

"Yes, just send it over before my parents find out. They still think we are dating" Travis said.

"You still haven't told them you're gay" I asked.

"How can I, I've seen how some of your family treated you and your brother after you both came out. I don't want that to happen to me" Travis stated resting his head on his hand.

"Well, you'll never know unless you find the courage to do so" I told him.

"You know how come every time we call, it turns into counselling for me" Travis asked.

"Because I have a degree in phycology and I did work experience with mental health charities" I replied, "So where are you two meeting up this time?"

"A café just outside the city and according to this he was actually following you whilst you were on your way to your grandparents" Travis said.

"Blasted stealth tech. Not even Thunderbird 5 can see past that" I shouted, "And when you see him, punch his arm for me" I asked.

"And remind him if you want to talk head to a safe house" Travis finished.

"Yes please" I said, a notification came onto my phone. Twitch had seen Alan come up the stairs and was heading towards mine and Scott's room, "So with that all said and done, please don't forget I'm only an email away" I said but I used sign language to tell Travis that someone was coming, and we needed to end the call.

"Ok so speak to you soon" Travis asked.

"Same time next month, see you then" I responded and ended the call and shut my laptop off, "Alan I know you're outside the door" I said getting up opening the door causing Alan to stumble.

"Gia, John needs to speak to you" Alan said, "He said your phone was off so he couldn't contact you"

"Fine, I'm going to see what he needs, and you get back to studying ok" I asked him.

"Sure" He said running back downstairs.

"What did Grandma say about running in the house" I reminded him.

"Sorry G" He yelled. I shook my head, when it came to studying, Alan was worse than Gordon. I headed downstairs to the living room where John's hologram was already active and to my surprise Brains was not here.

"There is no way Scott convinced Brains to go on that rescue" I asked John as I went to the desk and pulled up the file that John had sent.

"Yes, he did" John stated. I was surprised Brains left the island for once. "He would have asked you, but you were in a meeting and Virgil would have…"

"Blown a fuse" I finished.

"Yeah" John said. I pulled up the file that he had sent me.

"John why have you sent me a gaming program?" I asked looking puzzled at the cube of code that had just come up on the screen.

"This programming was in the trains main drive, it looked like it was controlling the train" John said, but I was not listening I was trying to dissect the code but every time I tried it just reassembled itself.

"That's odd" I said as I was able to get access to the cubes main programming.

"What is it?" John asked.

"This code…it looks like it wants to play a game, but it's too encrypted for me to tell" I told him.

"Hate to say I told you so" Alan shouted from the kitchen. I just glared at John.

"He gave me the idea" John stated, "Can you shut it down or stop it. I know coding is one of specialities" He asked.

"John, I need you to play this cubes game while I try and trace it to its source code and find out where it came from" I asked as I started to pull up my decryption program and put the cube in it, but it tried to resist this code, but I knew what to do. "Beta online" I activated the AI that was linked to my computer, "Run decryption protocol Gamma along with protocol Theta, see what happens and try and contain this cube" I asked. A phoenix avatar came up next to the cube and winked at me and then started to decrypt this puzzle that had fragments of an old coding technique that I had not seen in a few years. "John, are you having any luck because this code has more safeguards than Twitch and M.A.X. combined" I asked.

"I played its game like you asked and we regained control of the train and just in time…and you're not listening" John stated.

"Sorry John, this code it's more widespread than just this train. I am working on a program as we speak to try and find this codes source because it is not coming from anywhere, I know of, but I am searching. It could just be an anomaly from the programming stage of the train computer" I suggested.

"Gia, I finished my studies" Alan yelled from the kitchen.

"I'll be the judge of that. John we should just leave the cube alone for now and see what my program and Delta bring up" I recommended.

"Who is Delta?" John asked.

"Another AI assistance of mine" I told him.

"Of course," He sighed.

"Talk to you later" I said whilst activating the final decryption program I wanted to try. John ended the call, and I went downstairs to the kitchen to see how Alan was doing with his studies and it turns out he had finished all his work for today. I went over to the cupboards and started to get out the stuff needed for hot chocolate.

"G what are you up too?" Alan asked as he came over to the kitchens island.

"I did promise I would make you a hot chocolate once you finished with your studies didn't I" I reminded him.

"Oh yeah, I forgot" He smiled gleefully as I started to make the hot chocolate for the both of us, but something was up with Alan.

"Alan, have you got anything on your mind because you can tell me if something is bothering you" I asked. Alan just stayed quite for a while but then he decided to talk.

"Yeah, something has been bothering me for a while" Alan started to open up, I just stayed quiet, "Gia, did you ever meet my mother?" He asked. I was shocked, I didn't know how to respond I took a deep breath and told him what I knew.

"I never did meet your mother, but my parents told me a lot about her" I told him.

"What was she like?" He asked as I passed him the mug with the hot chocolate in it with a few marshmallows in it.

"Well, my mother went to the same collage as her and they were roommates. They used to get into trouble with the dean that oversaw their dorm all the time, they sneaked out past curfew almost every night" I told him but what I didn't realise that Scott had arrived back from the mission and was listening in on the conversation.

Scott's P.O.V.

I came back from the rescue and went to the kitchen to see if Gia and Alan were there, and they were in the kitchen talking about mom. I couldn't help but listen in on the conversation. "When did she meet Dad?" Alan asked Gia.

"Well, I defiantly don't think any of you were told this, but they met on a blind date that my mom set them up on" Gia told him.

"No way, your mom got my parents together" Alan exclaimed.

"Well, her call sign was Cupid for a reason. Oh, and as payback your mom got my mom on a blind date with my dad" Gia stated. I couldn't help but start to tear up as Gia told Alan the stories about mom, I didn't even notice Gordon sneak up behind me.

"Gordon what are you doing you could have given me a heart attack" I told him, as Virgil walked into the hall where we were stood.

"If you three are done eavesdropping you can actually take part in the conversation" Gia said. The three of us came out from the hallway and sat down on the island whist I stood next to Gia.

"How did you know we were there" I asked Gia. She whistled and Twitch came out from the lamp shade and landed on her shoulder.

"So that's how you keep an eye on me and Alan when we are studying, your little helper snitches" Gordon stated. Gia couldn't help but laugh, and I saw her smile for the first time in months. Gia smiling somehow just lifted the burden of everyday life.

"And do you two know what that amazing smell is?" Virgil asked.

"Don't look at me I still have my cast on" Gia stated.

"Then who?" Gordon asked, just as Grandma came down from the living room with apple pie and bagels on a tray.

"I wondered what that smell was" Alan stated.

"There is no way you followed the recipe" Gia stated.

"Well, I had a little help" Grandma gestured to M.A.X. who was right behind her.

"Gia, before I forget lets head to the med-bay and get the cast off of your wrist" Virgil asked.

"Oh halleluiah" Gia said. The two of them headed down to the med-bay after she sent something to John and Alan looked at me with a worried face.

"Scott, do you think Gia may remember her parents' deaths?" Alan asked.

"What makes you say that?" I asked looking at my youngest brother confused.

"Well Gia remembers things her parents said about are mom, but Gia never met her. It doesn't make sense" Alan asked.

"I defiantly remember Gia mentioning something about her having slightly episodic memory so it may be possible" I stated, "Even if that was so, Gia wouldn't tell us if it was bothering her. She prefers not to talk about that day, it was extremely hard on her"

"She became an extremely private person after that" Gordon stated, "I remember her being quite cold with us when she first moved in"

"And it was perfectly understandable that she behaved the way she did. Gia lost everything right before her eyes, literally" Grandma stated, "How would you feel if you were forced to watch your parents die"

"Like you couldn't trust anyone, and the world was against you" Alan said.

"But the important thing is that Gia has grown beyond that and is now helping others, so they won't go through what she has gone through. That's why she is so dedicated to supporting you as much as she can and from what I've seen over the years is that it has more than paid off" I said.

"Hey Scott" Gordon said.

"Yes Gordon" I responded.

"Are you ever going to propose to Gia?" He asked.

"One of these days I will, maybe sooner than you think" I stated, knowing that I was planning to propose to her before the new year began.

John's P.O.V.

I had finished monitor duty for the day, and I decided to see if Gia had made any progress with the code that I had found in the train's computer. She had sent me the algorithm that she used to locate the codes origin and to my horror it was coming from Thunderbird 5. I knew if Gia found out she would send the kill codes for Thunderbird 5 and disable it and then wipe the system to make sure the code wouldn't jeopardise the IR. I knew I would be able to handle it so I disabled the program and could only hope that I could stop this before it got out of hand.
