Today was the day! Iris almost flew out of bed, leaving Dagur to grumble and burrow under the covers. It was her birthday and Dagur's honorary birthday. Finally the wait was over!
When Iris and Vivian had returned, Iris had to hide the gift the moment they touched down. Dagur had been inside waiting, probably the moment he heard the dogs barking at their return. He politely helped Vivian down before grabbing her and swinging her off while planting a deep kiss on her lips. Apparently they had left too suddenly and made him worried so Iris had to listen to him scold her while checking to make sure she was okay. She was able to get him to shut up by popping a piece of fudge in his mouth.
She hadn't even been able to go get the hatchets once Dagur mellowed out. He wouldn't leave her side the whole day so Vivian had to sneak out and grab them. Thankfully her mother had some good hiding spots and hid them until he calmed down.
Together with her mom, they planned an amazing birthday. For breakfast they planned on making pancakes and bacon with honeyed biscuits. Jon grudgingly gave up some of his precious bacon at Iris' pleading. After breakfast Iris planned on dragging Dagur off to go for a fly so Vivian could make the cake. She planned on packing a lunch so they could spend the whole day outside. Dinnertime would be deer steaks with baked potatoes and green beans with more biscuits and obviously cake. After that, gift time!
"Morning Mom," Iris said brightly. "How's it oh."
"Blizzard," her snow covered dad grumbled. "Your flight plans are cancelled."
"Well that's not too bad."
"How do you plan to keep him busy then?" Vivian asked. Iris thought for a minute before wiggling her eyebrows at her mom. Vivian groaned while Jon's red face turned redder.
"It's a joke," Iris said quickly. "But I have no clue. I didn't think of a back up plan."
"That's your first mistake," Jon drawled. "Good thing I got it covered for you." He made a face while Vivian poked him with a spatula. "At your mother's insistence, I think maybe you and Dagur should be allowed to live in the dragon stable. But at the first sign of anything fishy you both are back in here in separate rooms."
"Thank you Dad," she squealed. She threw her arms around Jon in a hug, ignoring the biting cold snow. "Thank you! I promise nothing is going to happen!"
"What'll not happen?" Dagur asked with a yawn. "I smell bacon. That's going to happen right?"
"Dad finally agreed to let us live in the dragon stable," she said eagerly. As he sat down she walked up and gave him a peck on the cheek. "By the way, happy late birthday."
"Happy on time birthday," he returned, snaking his arm around her waist. "This day will always be my favorite day."
"Suck up," she teased as she wiggled away. "Let go! Those pancakes are calling my name."
"You want pancakes over me?" Jon coughed, choking on his coffee.
"You're going to kill Dad," she laughed sliding into her seat. "And right now yes. Need our energy to move everything!"
Vivian snickered into her coffee cup as she sat down as well. The look on Jon's face as he stared at Dagur would have killed him if looks could kill. Instead Dagur ignored him in favor of grabbing a handful of bacon. Iris poured herself some tea and added fresh cream before putting some pancakes on her plate.
Breakfast was overall peaceful even when Dagur and Jon argued over the last piece of bacon. Ever the mediator, Vivian solved the argument by taking it for herself. Both stared at her with heartbroken expressions that she ignored while Iris laughed. Trust her mom to break two men's hearts at once without a word.
Grabbing some biscuits, Iris headed to her room to get changed and figure out what should be moved first. Dagur tried to go in with her but she firmly closed the door before he had a chance. All she needed was her dad killing him on her birthday.
She ran a brush through her hair, wincing when she hit tangles, and quickly braided it to keep it out of her face. Once ready she opened the door and stared at her room. Obviously they'd need a bed. Would her books be safe out there? She'd have to build a new bookcase.
"If you think any harder you're head will explode," Dagur drawled. His arms wrapped around her waist and she leaned back against him. "What are you thinking about?"
"Will my books be okay in there?" she asked. "Or should I leave them in here?"
"Bring them," he said rubbing his bearded cheek against hers. "We can bring everything you want in there."
"Suck up," she teased. He just grinned before letting her go. "What should we take first?"
"Done," Dagur groaned. He flopped on the freshly made bed and rolled over to avoid a smack from Iris. "Who knew moving from one room to another would be so hard?"
"You wanted to," Iris teased. He watched as she folded extra bedding to put in a chest. "At least Jager and Enigma helped bringing everything up here."
The purple dragon peeked over the railing at the sound of his name. He had been hanging there watching them unpack since Enigma was laying in the extra space in the loft. His eyes glittered with curiosity as he pulled himself up to perch on the railing like a cat. Enigma gave a slight growl which he ignored.
The time the two dragons spent with each other helped them get used to each other. Enigma was still possessive over what she claimed as hers, especially over Iris, but Jager learned if he ignored her and the object she'd calm down. When it came to his stuff he was a pushover to the female's demands. It got bad when Enigma tried to claim his fish as hers that both Dagur and Iris had to supervise them eating.
However both Jager and Enigma were comfortable with each other. If Jager was in the loft Enigma would join him by laying on him. Jager would crawl into Enigma's pen and cuddle with her when something scared him. Both enjoyed grooming each other and would spend most of their down time just grooming themselves or each other. They would use their claws to comb through their hair and Jager especially liked grooming Engima's mane which she enjoyed receiving.
Speaking of grooming, Jager crept over to Enigma, rubbing his face against her mane before ruffling it with his nose. The grumpy female purred as he did so. Without any complaint she scooted over so Jager could join her in the limited space. Dagur just chuckled as Jager smugly rested his chin on her mane.
"I still don't know why Enigma gets so crabby over him," Iris sighed, pausing to look at the dragons. "You'd think she'd be over whatever she was upset about."
"Probably just how she is," Dagur said. "One of Hiccup's friends has a Murderous Nightmare that tortures him all the time. She probably is just a crab to all other dragons. I bet that's why she got beat up." Enigma glowered at him. "Nailed it."
"You are so mean," Iris laughed. She plopped onto the bed next to him. "Is it weird that this feels, well, weird? We've basically been living together already but now it feels more serious."
"I like it. I have you all to myself. No need to worry about your parents breaking in. Plus we have our dragons right here."
She hummed in agreement as she stretched out. He watched her, tucking his hands behind his head. Today had been enjoyable, just the two of them. Both Jon and Vivian kept out of their ways as they were busy with their own project. So it was just them setting up everything, moving everything, making it feel like their own.
"What?" she asked, rolling over to stare back at him.
"I just like staring at you," he answered. "Its one of my favorite past times."
"What did you do for fun in your world?"
"You really don't want to know."
"Well, I know you hunted dragons. Now if that was for fun or function I don't know."
"It was mostly for survival. Dragons would always attack to steal our livestock. So we started hunting them, caught some to train new warriors, learn about them. Ever since Hiccup started teaching people that dragons can be friends, not many Vikings hunted them anymore. There are still people who hunt them and capture them for their own profit." He coughed. "I used to be part of them."
"Not anymore though."
"Not anymore. I wish I could have been accept by Hiccup and the other Riders though. Spent more time asking my sister to forgive me. Be a good guy." Hurt flashed across her face but she quickly turned her head to look away from him. "Come here." He grabbed her and pulled her across the bed up against his chest. She buried her face in his chest. "While I miss my world, I'm glad I came here. There's so much I've experienced and learned. I met Jager. I met you and fell in love. So don't be sad."
"I just can't imagine how you feel, away from everything that's normal for you." Her voice was muffled but he could hear how choked her voice was. "In a new place where everything is strange. My heart feels like it'll break everytime I think of that but then I feel more horrible feeling happy you did come here. That you became part of my life that is so important to me, someone I love so much I could explode. Does that make me a bad person?"
"No. Absolutely not. Now no more crying. It's your birthday! A time to celebrate! I know that I'm grateful for this day because without it, you wouldn't be here with me."
She chuckled into his chest. A few times she moved her head side to side. Dagur wondered what she was doing until it dawned on him she had been crying. With a face he pulled her away to inspect his shirt for anything gross. She just laughed, her eyelashes spikey from tears, and laid on top of him. He wrapped his arms around her to keep her close.
With a grin he leaned up and kissed her. She hummed happily, following him as he leaned back into the bed. He deepened the kiss, moving on arm to place his hand on her nape. While she returned the deepened kiss, Enigma gave what sounded like a bark and scrambled away from Jager to leap down to the stable. A knock sounded at the door. He growled, refusing to let go, but as the knocking continued Iris sat up with a groan.
"WHAT?!" She didn't sound happy.
"Supper's ready love birds," Vivian's muffled voice said through the door. "Hurry up."
"Stupid supper," Iris grumbled as she slide off of him. Dagur resisted the urge to grab her and bring her back.
"Getting used to it huh?" he asked as he got up as well.
"I've realized getting embarrassed is pointless around you," she teased. "You just tell me to do what I want anyways and damned the consequence."
"Because of that I didn't have to chase you around like a scared rabbit." She stuck her tongue out at him and crawled down the ladder.
Except a chapter dump for the next few days as I try to catch up with all that I have written. I was working on this story along with another OC X Dagur but decided to shelf that one to focus on this story.
