Chapter 21: A Potential Threat
(A Few Hours Ago)
While Inuyasha is meeting the so called 'new student' Kagome somehow felt something very uneasy. "You okay, Kagome?" Sango asks her with her concern in her voice. "I somehow felt a chill going down my spine." Kagome answer as she fell shivers through herself. Sango looks around themselves to see anything out of the ordinary. Nothing. "Maybe it's somewhere else in the school." Sango said theoretically. Kagome looks outside through the window. 'I hope you're wrong.' She hopes.
(Current Time)
Kagome makes it home. "I'm home." She calls out to whoever is home. "Mom?" Kagome comes into the kitchen to see a note on the fridge. 'Dear, Kagome. I'm going to be working late tonight. Love mom.' Kagome sighs. "Ok, so far I just have homework. I might as well get that taken care." Kagome is about to go upstairs until a knock on her door stops her. "Who is it?" Kagome puts her backpack down to the floor. "It's me." Sango's voice spoke from outside. Kagome smiles as she opens up the door. "Sango, what's going on?" Kagome asks her friend. Sango grabs her wrist. "What are you doing?" Kagome hers in surprise. "We have a group meeting at Inuyasha's place." Sango keeps pulling her to Inuyasha's house. "Could you at least release my wrist?" Kagome yells at her. Sango immediately lets go of Kagome's wrist. "Sorry."
"Good, you're here." Miroku spoke first as he leans again the counter of the kitchen where he and Inuyasha are in. "What's going on? It's not going to be about what your dad said last weekend." Kagome crossed her arms. "No this is a problem that you're not aware of." Inuyasha said to her. "What is the problem? And what do you mean that I'm not aware of?" Kagome turns to him. "Inuyasha you can't keep this from Kagome? She has a right to know." Miroku spoke up. "Keeping what from me?" Kagome is now getting suspicious.
Sango comes to her. "Kagome, you told me that you felt a chill going down your spine." Kagome nods to answer. "Apparently it was a bad omen." Miroku tells her. "A bad omen? What are you talking about?" Kagome is still confused at this point. "You see there was a new student at school, and it turns that Inuyasha knows her." Kagome seems to understand. "Wait a minute. You said that Inuyasha knows her?" Kagome turns to him. "Yeah, but not at a personal level. She was my girlfriend's rival."
Just then Kagome narrows her eyes. "Your girlfriend's rival? I thought that your girlfriend passed away." She walks to him. "True. But her rival might not be after me but you." Inuyasha said to her calmly, but knows that he's not be honest though. "What do you mean that she's after me? I never met her before." Kagome said to him. "Not yet though. But it's just a hunch. I knew the moment I saw her, she would be after you." He warns her. That's when Kagome decides to leave. "I'll keep my guard up when I see her." She turns her glance to them before heading out the door.
The next day, Kagome gets to her locker to see which books she needs for the morning. "Morning." A new voice spoke to her from behind. That's when Kagome felt the same chill she got from yesterday. She slowly stands up and turns around to see a girl a bit older than her. True she was pretty, she can't deny that. Her black was very long to her waist with two pig tails strains to frame her face. "You know, you kind of remind me of someone I know." She spoke to her casually. Kagome gets her backpack strip over her one shoulder, "I get that a lot." Kagome comments as she is about to walk away. "Most like a copycat." The girl smirks at Kagome. That's when Kagome turns around with a look. "I'm just a normal person. I don't look like anyone else."
"Likewise, Kagome." The girl keeps her smirk. That's when Kagome widens her eyes. "How do you know my name? I never told you." She questions the girl. "Let's just say, I heard say your name. And I had to figure it out. Nothing more." The girl responds to her. "Fine. But what about your name though?" The girl aahs. "Oh my manners should've been with me from the very beginning. I'm Tsubaki." Tsubaki tells Kagome.
'This must be the girl Inuyasha must've warn me about.' Kagome realizes what Inuyasha told her yesterday. "Then you must be Kikyo's rival." Kagome crosses her arms. That's when Tsubaki narrows her eyes. Just when she is about to spat out, the bell rings to alert the students to attend their classes. Instead Tsubaki does the 'I'm onto you' gesture. Kagome does the same.
Throughout the day, Kagome and Tsubaki are almost at each other's throat whenever they're at arm's reach. But luckily Sango was by Kagome's side to make sure that they get into a fight. "Kagome, it's not worth it." Sango holds her back. "For the time being, Sango." Kagome glares at her. Sango knows for sure that this is just the beginning. "Some other time, Kagome." Sango guides Kagome away from Tsubaki's reach. "Try all you want, Sango. But I know for sure that Kagome is Kikyo." Tsubaki said to Sango. That's when Sango turns to her. "Remember this, Tsubaki. Even if Kagome looks like Kikyo, it doesn't mean that she is her." She warns her. "Oh I know that clearly, Sango. But because Kagome resemblances Kikyo, it'll always remind Inuyasha about her." Tsubaki tells her that. "That I can promise you." She then turns around and walks away.
At the end of the day, Kagome and Sango walk down their day. "What did Tsubaki mean that I resemble Kikyo?" Kagome asks her friend. Sango pauses a moment. "I wish I could answer your question, Kagome. But it's not in my place to do it." That respond wasn't what Kagome wanted to hear. "Then who can answer it since you won't do it?" Kagome asks Sango eagerly. Sango sighs, "Look Kagome, I know that you're so eager about this, but don't let Tsubaki's words get to you so easily. I know for sure that she can intimidating." Seeing that this is getting nowhere, Kagome spots her house. "I'll see you later then." Kagome waves Sango goodbye.
After seeing Kagome closing her front door, Sango immediately feels bad about what she said to Kagome. 'But it's for her own good.' Sango sadly said to herself in her head. As soon as she gets into her house, she noticed that her phone is on the lone table. Not just that, a note it by it. She opens it up. "Sango, you went through enough. But don't do it again. Dad." She read the note out loud since there's no one at home to hear her. "at least I have my phone back." She smiles as she goes through the phone to see if she had missed anything since, she had to give it to her dad due to her attempt to hack the school system. She is about to turn it off until it chimed. She opens up the phone to see it's from Miroku. "You didn't tell her yet?" The text shows her. "Tell her what?" Sango texts him back quickly. "About her resembling Kikyo." The text shows her specifically about the topic. "She asked, and I told her that it's not my place." Sango responds to him. She is not liking this. Lying to her new friend. As such she feels bad, Genuinely bad.
