Chapter 24: Bittersweet Reunion
Ever since Kagome got the address, she had her times that she really wanted to go there and make sure that Miyuki lives there. And there are times that she couldn't do it. Up until now, she and Sango finally turned sixteen which means that they along with Inuyasha and Miroku can get their own cars. Each of there cars are just the typical casual, but nice-looking vehicle to their liking. "So, what do you want to do? Go shopping?" Sango asks Kagome as she plays with the car keys in her hand. Kagome look at her own set. "Actually, I have to go somewhere." She tells Sango. "Really? Where?" Sango is getting more eager by the second. "It's more of a personal visit. A family visit." Kagome tries to make sure that Sango doesn't mess up this chance. Sango can see that this is something that Kagome has to do on her own. "Ok. But if you need me, I'll be there." She smiles. Kagome smiles back and they both drove off to their destinations.
Kagome turns on the car to hear such a wonderful sound that makes it comfortable for her. She sees a screen and smiles giddily. She pulls out the address into the screen and sees what the screen says to her. "Your destination is 4 miles away." The voice tells her. "Cool." Kagome changes the gears from reverse to drive and heads off.
As soon as Kagome left the driveway, Ai looks at her worriedly. "Inuyasha." She turns to him to see him pulling out of his driveway. "What is it?" He asks her. "Follow my daughter. I don't want her to get into any trouble." Ai tells him seriously. Inuyasha sighs, "Not to be rude, why can't you do it? You can track her down on your phone." Ai knows that already. "I don't want Kagome to get the wrong idea about me being very a helicopter parent. Just be about half a mile away from her." Inuyasha leans his head back. "Fine. But please don't make me do this again." He admits defeat and drives off.
Kagome follows the voice's directions to the address. "Turn left." The voice tells her. Kagome pulls into a street that looks less descent than the street she was just on. She spots the speed sign to show her to slow down in the area. She carefully drives slow on the street. She comes into the intersection of the street. She finds herself in a trailer community. "Turn right." The voice gives her the next instruction. Kagome turns to the right. "Your destination is on the right." The voice speaks. Kagome looks at the house numbers until she finds the one on the address.
"This must be the place." Kagome pulls to the curb. As soon as she gets out her car, she can tell that the house is a double wide place. She takes a deep breath and heads to the front door. She knocks on the door a few times and waits. After about ten seconds the door opens up to show a middle-age woman. "Can I help?" She asks Kagome cautiously. "Hi, are you Miyuki Hibiki?" The woman sneers at Kagome. "How do you know me?" She asks Kagome. "Sorry to intrude, but my name is Kagome Higurashi. I'm Ai's daughter." Kagome introduces herself.
Miyuki eyes soften a little. "Ai you say? Come on in." She opens the door up widen to allow Kagome to enter. Kagome smiles respectfully. She enters to see the place is very nice despite the area she lives in. "I take it that Ai wants you to accept my apology instead of coming here herself." Miyuki assumes the girl's visit. "To be honest, Ai doesn't really know where you live. She asked my friend to give her the last know address." Kagome takes a seat on the couch. "I see. I tried my best to contact her but she never responded to my calls or texts." Miyuki understands the topic. "If you want to know, we just moved a few weeks ago." Kagome tells her aunt. "Really? Where?" Miyuki asks her immediately. "We live in this nice neighborhood. It's Sakura Hills." Kagome gives the location. Miyuki stops herself from taking a sip of her tea. "Oh, you live there now." She sounds way least enthusiasm, "I guess Tokei wasn't enough for your mother." She places the tea cup back onto the end table.
Kagome never expected her aunt to be like this. "No, is was never enough for me." She tells her. Miyuki didn't see that coming. "What happened?" She asks Kagome gently. "Let's just say that I a terrible experience there instead of mom." Kagome replies. "Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not one to pry to ask you any further questions about that." Miyuki can sense a secret fear from within her.
"I wish I could've met Kikyo." Kagome decides to change the topic. Miyuki shows a straight line. "I wish that she apologized when she was alive. You deserve that much. To be honest with you Kikyo wanted to meet you despite her comment that you looking like her." Kagome nods to show her aunt that she understands. "Was she always like that growing up?" Kagome asks as she spots picture of Kikyo of her in her last year of High School year. "Not all the time. She had everything that would make her mother proud. Good grades, top student on the honor role. But there was one thing I did not approve of." Miyuki frowns in the end. "And what was that?" Kagome asks curiously.
"For her to have a boyfriend." Miyuki looks at Kagome with serious expression. "Having one is nothing but a distraction. Ever since she had him, her grades began to slip, losing her position. I couldn't stand it one bit." Kagome would never expect a parent to think her daughter to be in something so bad. "And her boyfriend is a half-demon. Named Inuyasha Takahashi." Just hearing that Kagome gasps in shock.
"And it was not only him that caused Kikyo to die from her car crash. But also Tsubaki." Kagome gasps again. Miyuki catches the look. "I take it that you know them?" Miyuki tells her instead of asking. Kagome just nods. "Yeah. The thing is that Inuyasha is my next door neighbor and Tsubaki just transferred to my school." Kagome answer makes Miyuki remain calm at this point. "And I bet Inuyasha has been a bad influence on you…" She starts off. "You're wrong!" Kagome shouts back at her. "Inuyasha did not kill your daughter. He was home at the time the accident happened. He told me what he did when he got to the sight." Kagome tells Miyuki the rest of her story.
Miyuki didn't see this coming from Kagome. "Ever since then, he still loves her despite her death. He wanted to keep her memories alive. How could you be like that." Kagome sternly tells her aunt. Miyuki doesn't know what to do at this point. She gets to see her niece for the first time and throws accusations at her. Kagome stands up. "I just want to meet you for the first time and I guess this is probably a bad time for that." She digs into her pocket where her aunt's address is written and decides to write down the address and give it to Miyuki. "Whenever time is convenient please come to the new house. I don't like to be in the middle between two sisters." Kagome leaves the house and drives off.
When Kagome left the house, Miyuki looks down to the piece of paper that Kagome gave her. She then turns the paper to the other side to see that her address is written differently than Kagome's handwriting. 'I know this.' She widens her eyes. "This is Inuyasha's handwriting." A new voice said to her. Miyuki to turn around to see Kaede coming into the living room from the hallway. "I want you to follow Kagome. Here's her address. She just wrote it to me before she left." Miyuki tells her stepdaughter. Kaede looks at the piece of paper before making her decision.
