Chapter 25: Not Just by Blood

(Earlier that Day)

As soon as Kagome left her house, Inuyasha waited till she was at a good distance to follow. Against his wishes, Inuyasha had to do as Mrs. Higurashi says, other wise, he'll may never hear the end of it. He follows Kagome all the way to the street that she turned to. Inuyasha gasps to see that she entered a trailer neighborhood. "Ok, this is not what I had in mind." He exclaims to himself as he decides to follow Kagome into the neighborhood street, but to make sure she didn't see him from behind.

When he comes to the intersection of the streets, he notices that the streets in this area are very narrow. It's not really wide enough to have a two way street. He sighs and slowly drives the street until he sees Kagome's car parked to the side. Luckily the homes have their own driveways for the owners cars to park. He decides to park some ways away from Kagome's car, and waits patiently until Kagome leaves the house she went in.

(Current time)

Inuyasha fiddles around his cell phone until he hears a door slam. He looks up to see Kagome in an agitated state. "What was she thinking?" Kagome mumbles to herself as she gets into her car and drives off. Before she is about to drive away, she spots a certain very familiar car behind her through the rearview mirror. "There's no way he followed me all the way here." She is about to confront him, but something crossed her mind. "On second thought." She grins and texts to him and drives off. Inuyasha's phone chimes to alert me about a text. He sees that it's from Kagome. "Catch me if you can, sucka. :p" Inuyasha chuckles at the sense of humor. "It's on, Kagome. It's on." He grins and goes after her.

Kagome comes to the exit of the trailer neighborhood. She looks into the rearview mirror. She can see that Inuyasha is not that far behind her. She rolls her eyes and heads toward home. It doesn't take her that long to get into her house. She pulls into the empty garage spot inside. She turns off the car and gets out. She walks out to the curb and sees Inuyasha about to pull into his spot inside the garage. She stomps her way to his side of the car. As soon as Inuyasha opens the door to get out he gasps to see Kagome crossing her arms and tapping her foot impatiently. "Care to explain why you followed me to the trailer neighborhood?" She asks him as he gets out. "Look it wasn't my idea to do this. It was your mother who made me do it." Inuyasha waves his hands in defense.

"My mom made you do this? Why would she want you to follow me?" She asks him. "Why don't you go ask her yourself." Inuyasha suggests as he goes into his house not to be part of this any further. Kagome is now annoyed to hear this. She is about to go into her house until a new car comes into her driveway. "Who's that?" Kagome asks herself as she waits to see who is the driver of the car. The car door opens up to reveal a girl a bit Kagome's age, with her black hair ties into a low ponytail with a headband. "Can I help you?" Kagome calls out to her. The girl smiles nicely. "Sorry to intrude but I'm Kikyo's stepsister Kaede." Kaede introduces herself. Soon the front door opens up to see Ai come out. "Kaede? What are you doing here?" She comes to Kagome's side.

Kaede smiles, "Hello, Aunt Ai. I was hoping I could come for a visit, that is if you don't mind." Kaede asks with a bow. Ai comes to her. "Miyuki sent you didn't she?" She asks the girl. Kaede only nods to answer. "I see. Come in." Ai gestures her and Kagome to come into the house. The girls make themselves comfortable in the family. "So Kaede, how are things with my sister?" Ai starts off. "She's doing fine, Aunt Ai. I'm just worried for what's going on with her." Kaede answers her as nicely as she could despite the sadness in her voice. "What's happening?" Ai asks her in concern. "I don't know if you know about this, but she and I live in a trailer neighborhood." Kaede tells her. Kagome is aware of that so far but not her mother though.

"Why are you two living there? Did you used to live in a nicer neighborhood?" Ai is confused so far. She knows her sister would never live in an area like that. "I'm not too fond about the area, but it was the only option we were offered after we lost our house a few months ago." Kaede agrees with Ai's opinion. "What happened to the house?" Ai asks her in a comforting manner. "It was caught on fire from an electrical problem. Your sister and I were able to escape, but my dad…" Kaede couldn't said anymore. Ai and Kagome gasps in shock at the revelation. "Oh, I'm so sorry, Kaede. I had no idea that your father would…well…you know." Kagome hugs her, not really to say at this point.

Kaede hugs back. "Unfortunately, we didn't have the house insured at the time. With what Miyuki and I had left we were able to move to the trailer neighbor to save our money until we could find a more suitable place for the both of us." Kaede explains to them. Kagome has no clue on what to say at the point. She just learnt about her aunt and cousin's fate. "Ever since we moved there, Miyuki just doesn't feel safe there."

Ai and her family just moved to this area. True that house is spacious, but the number of bedrooms have been occupied by the family. "Why not live here with us for the time being." Kagome offers absentminded. Kaede looks at her in surprise. "Oh no, Miyuki and I shouldn't be intruding your house. Besides you just moved here. You don't need more any people living here." She respectfully declines the offer. Ai doesn't seem to think so. "It's true what Kagome said, but your family Kaede. And there's one thing that this family doesn't allow. We don't want to see anyone suffer. You and Miyuki are more than welcome to live here for awhile until you find a more suitable house." Ai adamantly tells her niece.

Kaede lets her eyes spill her tears in happily. "Thank you." She sobs as she hugs Ai. "We have a basement that we can convert into two bedrooms for you and Miyuki. I just have to get the stuff to build it though." Ai pulls back the hug. "Ok." Kaede couldn't be any happier. But what about Miyuki though? Would she be okay with this offer? There's only one thing to find out. She stands up. "I have to go home. I'll see you guys later." Kaede gives her farewell and leaves the house.

Kaede returns to her home in the trailer neighborhood. She gets in. "I'm home." She calls out to Miyuki. Miyuki looks at Kaede with a hopeful expression that she doesn't seem to figure it out. "How did it go?" Miyuki asks as she puts her book down. "It went well to be honest." Kaede responds as she sits down onto the couch. "What did my sister ask you about me?" Miyuki asks another question. "Well Aunt Ai is doing ok on her part. She wanted to know how things with you instead. She wanted to know why we are living in this area instead of our old neighborhood." Kaede had to be frank at this point.

Miyuki frowns at that part. "You had to tell them about the house fire, didn't you?" She asks to be sure. "I had to. Ai misses you terribly ever since the wedding." Miyuki nods. "I see. What else did Ai ask?" Kaede sighs, "Ever since I told Aunt Ai about the fire, she offers us to stay at her place until we get somewhere else that is safe for the both us. We both know that this area isn't really secured."

Miyuki widens her eyes. "Are you sure that my sister is offering us to stay at her place? I don't want to intrude their house." She reasons Kaede. "Trust me, I said the same thing. I was surprised at that part." Kaede chuckles at that. "Ok, well, let me give my sister a call and to be sure that this isn't a joke." Miyuki stands up and walks somewhere else in the house to have a private conversation with her sister.

A/N: Ok guys, I'm going to put this story on hold because I need to resume my other story "Demonic Reality" since it's a Halloween story. Be sure to follow that story.
