They stayed on the small rocky island that the cave had taken them to. The air was warm, warmer than at the homestead, so Iris took off her lined hat and her gloves. She thought about taking off her leather vest but decided it wasn't that warm out.
Above the cave was a massive rock formation that looked like a dragon about to take flight. Moss covered parts of it, adding to the almost alive look. However Enigma sat on what would have been the head and it didn't react so it wasn't alive. Iris hoped at least. If it came alive while they were sleeping she was going back. Screw that.
It was dusk when they came through so both agreed they should stay on the small island for the night. Going back into the cave didn't result in them returning so they decided it would be a good place to camp. Enigma laid down with a yawn. Iris snuggled against her as Dagur leaned against Jager's side.
"Tomorrow we can head out," he said. "Find an occupied island and figure out where we are."
"What are we doing first?" she asked.
"I want to find Hiccup and the others," he answered. Iris raised her eyebrow at him. "Not to do anything bad. Promise. I want to make sure they're okay. If we can get to the Edge we can stock up and head to Berserker. I want you to see my home, meet my people."
"Do you think they'll like me?"
"Of course and if they don't who cares? Your mine and I love you. They don't matter."
She blushed at his words but gave him a smile. He grinned back at her before giving a big yawn himself. Of course since he yawned in front of her she couldn't help but yawn as well.
Engima's mane was very comfortable. Iris snuggled further in. She could hear the dragon's heartbeat and her breathing. Both sounds, along with Dagur's soft snoring, lulled her to sleep.
When she woke up the next morning, Dagur and Jager were gone. She scrambled to her feet in a panic. Did he leave her? Did something happen? Enigma was calm and relaxed so she forced herself to act rational and calm down. The dragon would have woken her up if something had gone wrong.
"Where did those two go?" she asked. Enigma chirped and flapped her wings. "For a fly?" The dragon nodded. "Well, let's get you saddled up and see what's going on."
She tossed on her saddle, finished some business, and soon crawled up on Enigma's back. With a churp she trotted out of the cave, stretching her wings. The air smelled heavily of salt as the wind hit their faces. It was oddly refreshing.
Enigma crawled up the small mountain, more like a giant pile of rocks and a dragon shaped pile of rocks, and perched on the highest point which was the dragon's head. She looked around so Iris took the chance to as well. All around them was open water with the sun rising. Nothing was out there for landmarks.
With a roar Enigma leaped off the dragon head and soared through the sky. She circled the island, giving another roar as her ears shifted in different directions. She perked up and turned to head north. Iris just clung to her and let the dragon do her thing. She obviously knew what to do.
The island was almost a small dot in the horizon when a familiar purple figure came into view. It roared, which Enigma answered with one of her own roars, and seemed to hover as they made their way to it. Jager chirped once they got closer while Dagur was grinning widely.
"I know where we are," he said eagerly once she came into ear shot. "I was just heading back to get you."
"Why didn't you wake me up?" she asked with a frown.
"You looked so tired. I wanted you to get plenty of sleep. I know you weren't sleeping much before we left." She couldn't argue there. "If we keep heading north we'll hit Changewing Island. The Edge is about a half day's flight from there."
"Well." God she was feeling nervous. "Let's go!"
