They left at the crack of dawn. Dagur wanted to leave that night when he came back to where they were roomed but Iris argued that Enigma and Jager needed some rest. Grudgingly he agreed but held her tight all night. Something had happened when he went back to tell Hiccup their plan but he wouldn't tell her what.
Iris didn't think she'd be able to sleep but being held by Dagur, she fell asleep within a matter of minutes. One thing hadn't changed and that was that Dagur was a comfortable human pillow. As long as he was there she would fall asleep.
She wished they could have stayed a little longer but she knew he needed to deal with the Berserkers. She was still surprised none of the elders stepped in to chose a new chief. Maybe they couldn't agree either. That meant that Dagur could reclaim his position though.
"You can see Berserk Island," he called. "See?"
A large island did come into view. Trees dominated the mountainous island as a large port stretched out from the shore. One thing the Berserkers were known for other than their crazy behavior was their massive fleet. Dagur told her that everyone knew how to sail a ship no matter what once they hit the age of ten. A fleet, armada, that big would need all hands on deck.
"How do you want to approach?" Iris yelled.
"The Berserker way! Head on!"
She groaned as Enigma roared eagerly at Dagur's words. They flew closer, she could see a large village stretching from the port, and heard faint yelling. Dagur whooped while the two dragons roared. People ran about in a panic.
Enigma easily dodged the arrows that were shot towards them. Iris just hunkered down and trusted the dragon. If she looked she'd start panicking. Dagur yelled wordlessly again as Jager breathed fire in the air. They were all having way too much fun with this.
"Berserkers cease fire," Dagur roared as they flew over the crowd. She glanced back to see over half of them suddenly drop their weapons at his words while the rest looked after them in shock. "Your chief is back!"
A wordless roar came from the gathered people. Men started smacking each other, cheering and pointing at the now wildly grinning Dagur. Some of the women looked like they were crying. Overall though, they all seemed excited to hear and somewhat see Dagur.
They landed away from the port on the beach. People raced towards them, yelling excitedly. Jager reared up with a snarl as they came closer. Enigma arched her back and growled, shifting to stand next to the other dragon. Awe and cheer was a common expression on the people around them.
"Dagur you've returned to us," an older man yelled as he shoved through the crowd. "I knew the gods weren't ready for you! Tell us! Where have you been all this time?"
"My people," Dagur shouted as he stood on the now standing Jager's back. "I'm glad to see you all again! Over a year ago I saved our allies the Dragon Riders from a deadly trap the Dragon Hunters laid for them. I was severely injured and on death's door when a Valkyrie and her dragons rescued me from the sea and took me into her home with her family. During this time I have been recovering outside the impenetrable fog with no hope of returning. However these dragons found a way through and brought me back!" Very impressive theatrics.
"Who's that other person?" someone yelled.
"This is the woman who saved me!" The crowd cheered and moved closer. "Calm down you lot! Her dragon isn't afraid to bite you and I'll allow it! Her and her family cared for me when I was injured and gave me a place to live, food to eat, clothes to wear. I was lucky enough to have her graciously come back with me! I expect you all to treat her with the respect she deserves as your future chieftess." He said what now?!
