This is merely the after words to End of Diamonds. So enjoy some added stuff to this fic.
Overall the ending had to be the way it is due to the fact that it is a harsh and massive deconstruction of DitR's ending. Showing that the way DITR ended left NO ROOM for a happy ending. Any semblance of a happy ending couldn't be achieved due to the Touhou characters' distrusting of one another and their relationships being broken after the Moriya Mist Incident.
Speaking of which, I want to quickly add something of importance. More hypocrisy from the Touhou characters to the gappies. They hate on the gappies for being evil to the heart and are evil from the get-go alongside the fact that they are sent to hell to burn forever. HOWEVER, the Touhou characters themselves have caused incidents that are just as worse THAN the gappies even on a wider scale.
For example, the FIRST incident in the window's era is Remilia's incident, the Scarlet Mist Incident and if it did NOT get resolved, then everyone would've died of a lack of food as plants need the sunlight to grow and the mist created by Remilia hid the sun. This also applies to Yuyuko's incident and it would have also killed everybody if it didn't get resolved at all as everyone would have died of an eternal winter! If not then a killer tree in the form of the Saigyou Ayakashi. Though that is assuming it could ever work.
Despite being a magnum opus of a time long past, Diamond in the Rough is ultimately Outdated by Canon. Hell is an actual place and not just a furnace where people are tossed into to be burned. Kasen would have actively been stopping Yukari with her Gappy system in DitR and Okina would lend her a hand to take down the gap Youkai.
Especially now that the NEW Touhou characters from LolK and UM can screw over the "peace" after DITR. Such as with Hecatia getting rid of the Gappy System and having the Ministry rule over Gensokyo alongside making sure the factions don't try anything that would get Gensokyo in danger. Megumu would have outright want to stop the Gappy system as she sees the system as a danger to tengu kind and Momoyo would have gone to challenge new gappies to the death.
And if you're wondering, Hecatia would be able to beat everybody in Gensokyo so no one would even dare to challenge her lest they provoke her wrath.
Plus Sumireko herself is a canon Gappy in Touhou with her suffering the consequences of going to Gensokyo. It's just that she at the very least doesn't get murdered and realizes her mistakes before it's too late. Oh and Mokou is shown to actually care for people as she befriends Sumireko.
Now then, I want to address something important…the actual Gensokyo is NOTHING seen in this story in DITR. It is a place full of wonders and adventures, it's not somebody's plaything for the author's of the gappy stu fics. Especially those tragic gappy stu fics which show Gensokyo as a horrible place with "mature" and "darker" plots.
The inhabitants are good people (except for some of the cannibalistic Youkai like Rumia and Seija because well she's herself) with even a bloodsucker Remilia letting those lost into her mansion. And Yukari is not a sociopath who would throw away the system for an eternal war.
If you Spaztique are listening to this Afterword…I do hope you actually had a plan when it comes to writing the (now dropped) sequel that reconstructs DITR after the end. Can you really help Reimu and Sakuya recover from the betrayals that occurred during the Moriya Mist Incident? Can you make Aya and Momiji actually forgive Nitori for basically betraying their trust especially since Momiji just saw her best friend get her in trouble? Can Miko and Reimu not actually murder, let alone forgive, Byakuren for having the ENTIRE Myouren Temple betray Broli and his allies for Tenshi? Can you make Sakuya ever trust her backstabbing mistress again after she sent her to be shot by the Buddhists along with Reimu? AND…can you make Reisen recover from losing the love of her life (Broli), lose her child and actually be capable of resolving the LOLK incident?
Well Spaztique…I'll be waiting…
