Chapter 29: When Enough is Enough

Throughout the times, Kagome and Kaede begin to open up more about each other. Something that they never got to do with each other. Kaede told Kagome that one time she was looking through her family album and found an old picture of Kagome that Miyuki kept secret all those years. "When I saw you in that picture, I wanted to meet you immediately, but Miyuki said she wasn't ready to face your mother. Not for a long time." She told her sadly. Kagome nods to she that she understands where this is going. "It's ok. I really wanted to meet other relatives in the family but ever since that fight, she never wanted me to see you guys." Kagome states back at her.

It's the night before Kaede heads to Kagome's school since the one she was going to was at the other side of the town which has two sister schools. "So, are you nervous about tomorrow?" Kagome asks her cousin ad she paints her toe-nails in a plum shade of purple. Kaede nods. "Pretty much, I know that Ai made sure that I was transferred due to a family emergency." Kaede honestly replies as she holds still for Kagome to keeps her work going smoothly. "I know what you mean. Every year is a nerve wrecking and there's no telling for might happen throughout that time." Kagome agrees with her as she puts the little nail polish brush back into the bottle and waits for the polish to dry. "You seem pretty calm about it." Kaede comments Kagome's respond. "That's because I've managed to keep it together. I don't want anyone to see how weak I am." Kagome explains her reason as she puts the box with the other nail polishes are stored away back under Kaede's bed.

"Did something happen?" Kaede pushes her kept secret question. Kagome just looks at her. "Do you want me to answer that?" She asks in calm way not to scare her. Kaede is about to shake her head. "I just went through a nasty breakup. But that's all I'm going to tell you for now until I'm fully ready to tell you more about it." Kagome tells her. Kaede can tell this is going too far to a personal topic. "I'll drop it." She waves her hands. "It's nothing that you can be concerned about." Kagome tells it and heads out of Kaede's room. Seeing that there's nothing she can do about it, Kaede goes to sleep. When Kagome goes back into her room, she shuts the door behind her and slides her back to the wall of the door and wraps her arms around herself and weeps. Back outside Ai heard her daughter weep. Knowing that she her space to calm down, Ai heads back to her bedroom where Hige is coming out of their bathroom in his pajamas. "I know something happened?" He starts off. Ai is about to say buy Hige beat her to it. "The breakup topic was mentioned?" Ai sighs and sits onto her side of the bed getting her hair brush. "Afraid so. I can tell by the way that Kagome cried." Hige knows for sure. "So who was it that asked?" He asks her as she gets under the comforter. "Kaede perhaps. I'll talk to her in the morning. She doesn't know what Kagome went through when particular people are brought up." Ai said as she turns off her lamp. Hige follows suit and goes to sleep.

Kaede wakes up around one in the morning. She goes upstairs to the kitchen to get something to drink. As she roams through the fridge, Ai comes in. "Kaede?" She asks her niece. Kaede gasps in surprise. "Oh, I didn't know you were." Kaede takes a few deep breathes to calm her racing heart. "Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." Ai goes into the cabinet to get a glass for her niece. Kaede pulls out the water pitcher. "It's ok. It's my first. Nothing more." Kaede waves it off as she pours herself so water. "I just wanted to talk to you about something." Ai tries to lighten the mood. "Whatever it was, I didn't mean to hurt Kagome's feelings." Kaede speaks rather fast. Ai stops her. "Don't worry about it. Kagome has been through a hard time lately. She's been that way since the breakup." Ai explains to her. "Is there anyway that get her over that moment?" Kaede asks her aunt in concern. "Not right now, Kaede. That's only Kagome responsibility to take care of it. We just moved here and everyone is trying to settle down in the new house. Don't let it bother you. We have a lot going on that we try to make sure Kagome doesn't go astray to the subject." Ai explains why Kagome needs to focus on the current subject.

Kaede nods. "I see. I had no idea that Kagome was like that. I promise not to pry on it. Good night." Kaede leaves the kitchen to head back to her bedroom in the basement. Ai smiles sadly. 'But I hope you can help Kagome.' She said to herself before going upstairs to go back to sleep.

The following morning, Kagome is getting her school stuff and getting dressed. A knock on her door gets her attention. "Who is it?" She calls out to the guest. The door opens to show Kaede peeking in. "May I come in?" She asks politely. "Sure." Kagome smiles to let her cousin enter. "Listen about last night…" Kagome starts off. "No. I should apologize for what I did. That was insensitive, and inconsiderate of me to ask you about that topic." Kaede speaks her mind. "Your mother told me and there's no need for me to go into a topic that really affects you. So I'll drop it." Kagome can see that Kaede is being sincere about it. As such she shouldn't be like that at all. We might as well get going." The girls head out of the house and into Kagome's car to head out to school.
