Author's Notes and Disclaimer: Greetings, readers! Welcome to "Loonatics Unleashed in: The Secret of NIMH", a crossover between Don Bluth's first solo work (you heard right!) released in 1982, and a TV series featuring super-powered descendants of six Looney Tunes that ran from 2005-2007. This was created while I was on a Looney Tunes/Tiny Toons/Loonatics Unleashed kick. At the same time, I was watching "The Secret of NIMH", and I couldn't help but wonder how "Acmetropolis' Finest" would look if animated by Don Bluth; I mean, the artwork of his films is beautiful and so distinct. And then, before I knew it, I had spent practically ALL OF JULY OF 2020 writing this! Considering how long some of these chapters are, I wonder if I overdid it; but I couldn't resist putting in some character development and more backstory on the Loonatics themselves—in the show, their pasts before the meteor are just barely explored! (Blame Star Trek: DS9 and Babylon 5 for getting me hooked on character and story arcs). I only hope I've stayed true to their characters.

For disclaimer's sake, this fanfiction is based on my own repeated viewings of "The Secret of NIMH" (as in I watched the movie repeatedly, even watching the same scenes over and over). I do not own "The Secret of NIMH", the characters of "Loonatics Unleashed", the "Tiny Toon Adventures" character Calamity Coyote, "Looney Tunes" characters Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, or even the Hanna-Barbera character Godzooky. The only things I own are the idea for this crossover, the character of Zia, my characterization of Godzooky, Calamity being a telepath, and any mentions concerning the Darkness.

This also takes place after a two-person crossover with "Loonatics Unleashed" that I'm planning to put down (eventually, still stuck on the prequel), so I thought you'd like to know about that. And yes, by now Zooky's married and he's actually taken up residence in Toontown with his wife Zia (the story of how they met is still in my development closet at the moment, unfortunately).

Now, before we get started, some things I want to point out:

Even though I think I've done it OK, I'm not sure about my interpretation of Calamity's telepathy or the condition of his actual voice. In my fanfic-verse, Calamity really can't speak due to being born with undeveloped vocal chords; I've looked up on some medical websites and found that it's a rare condition, but still possible. However, to be on the safe side, if I've made any errors, please point them out to me and I will fix them (and apologize profusely). Along those lines, any line of dialogue that are italicized and between single quotation marks '...' means it's being communicated via telepathy. If the dialogue is italicized and in double quotes "..." it means that whoever's speaking is calling from a distance. OK, I think you get the idea.

I'm also a bit unsure about if I got Ace's Brooklyn accent right (Being Bugs Bunny's descendant, he's inherited the accent). There's also the matter of Danger duck's lisp; did I overdo it a tad? (Ancestor, Daffy Duck). In other words, Ace and Duck's speech (as well as Slam's) are written the way they are on purpose, not spelling errors.

Also, it appears I've put the Toons in the IRL situation of having been affected by the pandemic; I know many of you will call me out on that, but think about how the situation may have affected them. Plus, this was pretty much written in the early days of the pandemic, so…I guess you could call it me expressing some frustration?

Anyway, what say we get the ball rolling?

Chapter 1: Cabin Fever

"Well, whaddya know? I didn't think that it was possible, but it's officially happened," said a brown-furred anthro coyote with olive-green eyes as he stared at his computer screen.

"What's-that,-Tech?" asked a blue-and-purple feathered anthro roadrunner.

"I'm officially bored out of my genius mind," Tech answered his friend. "I've been able to keep my brain and body occupied for a good portion of this lockdown, but now I find myself in a-"

"Rut?-Finding-everything-repetitive?-Feeling-cabin-fever?" the avian anthro offered.

"Yes, thank you Rev," Tech sighed. "It's now been at least four to five months since everyone, even the Toontown citizens, were given the order to stay at home; and frankly-(sigh)-I'd give nearly anything to be back in the open."

Rev took a deep breath and concentrated, so that he could slow his voice down to a "normal" speed, a trick he had learned from his friend Zooky's youngest cousin.

"You and me and everyone else, Tech," Rev said. "It feels like ages-since-I-last…(deep breath)…went for a run. If I can't go out…and run…without worrying about getting infected by this virus or accidentally giving it to someone else, then…what's the point of calling myself a "roadrunner"?"

"Besides, we were brought here to help combat the Darkness in this time to save our own," Tech added. "How can we do that if we're locked away in here?"

'No-one said things would be easy,' came a young boy's voice into the anthro coyote and roadrunner's minds.

Both anthros turned to see a young, gray Toon coyote with a red nose and wearing pink high-tops. It was Calamity Coyote, young genius of Acme Looniversity and one of two psychics at said school. Calamity had been spending time at Bugs' house-where Tech and Rev, along with their other teammates, were staying-when the stay-at-home order had come in, trapping him in with the rest of the occupants: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Godzooky and Zia Gojo, Ace Bunny, Lexi Bunny (no relation), Danger Duck, Slam Tasmanian, Rev Runner, and Tech E. Coyote, the latter he looked up to like an older brother.

"Ya got that right, Cal," Tech agreed with a heavy sigh.

"I-mean-I-understand-the-reason-for-all-this-they-don't-want-to-risk-spreading-this-thing-but-you'd-think-they'd-have-come-up-with-something-by-now-and-" Rev cut himself off when he saw the psychic coyote rubbing his temples. "Sorry, Calamity," Rev apologized after taking another breath. "I guess my mind-and my mouth-were going a zillion miles an hour again."

'It's OK, Rev,' Calamity assured the anthro roadrunner. 'I've been doing my training and getting used to the speed of your thoughts. It's not as painful as it was before.'

"Well…sorry all the same," Rev apologized again.

Calamity smiled.

'Everybody else in this house feels the same way you guys do,' Calamity then said through his telepathy. 'There's definitely a lot of tension in everyone's minds nowadays. If only we could do an adventure; that could put everybody's spirits back up.'

"Yeah, but the question is where and how," Tech pointed out. "We can't go anywhere without wearing protection or not knowing if we have any symptoms that we could inadvertently pass to someone else."

"Didn't-you-put-up-scanners-throughout-the house to check that?" Rev reminded.

Tech mentally face-palmed himself and went on his computer to check the scanners' results. The results showed that everybody was clear. Plus, on Zooky's suggestion, the occupants decided to take a page out of Porky's "keep-it-neat-and-tidy" book and made sure to follow the CDC guidelines, so everybody was in good health.

'And as for the "where and how"…' Calamity started, letting his telepathic power discreetly stretch out. 'I'm sensing that someone will have an idea in three…two…one…'

"Hey, team! Can you come into the living room? I've got an idea for an adventure for you guys!" called a familiar voice that belonged to Godzooky Gojo, honorary Looney Tune and member of the Loonatics, a superhero team that Rev and Tech were part of, from downstairs.

'Called it,' Calamity smirked.

"Stho, what'sth a book got to do with having an adventure and getting usth out of thisth pristhon?" Loonatic member Danger Duck asked his saurian teammate and friend. "No offensthe," he added to Bugs Bunny, his host.

"Eh, none taken, Duck," Bugs said. The gray lagomorph had to admit he was feeling imprisoned in his own house.

"It's something similar to what Vicky did when she took me and the family on our first trip to Narnia, remember?" Zooky asked, having told them the story before.

Most of the Loonatics remembered off the bat, but Duck had to do some "thinking" before the memory came back to him (courtesy of Calamity). Said young coyote also nodded, Zooky's cousin Gina having told him the story when she first met him.

"Well, we can do the same thing here, with this book," Zooky said, holding up a book titled "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH".

"Hey, wasthn't that a movie about a mousthe who-Hmay!" Daffy protested as his beak was held shut by Bugs to prevent the black-feathered mallard from giving away any spoilers.

"Yes, the book was made into a movie," Zooky agreed. "But all I'll say about it is that it's about a widowed field mouse who seeks the help of some special rats to help save her family. The rest you'll find out when you get there."

"Ya mean you're not comin' wit' us?" asked Ace Bunny, a grey, anthro rabbit who looked similar to Bugs Bunny.

"Consider it an adventure to test yourselves," Godzooky suggested. "I'll arrive at the end to pick you guys up."

'Zooky,' Calamity telepathically spoke up, raising his hand. 'If it's all right, I would like to take part in this adventure as well. After FernGully, this should be most interesting.'

"If you really want to and if the others don't mind," Zooky said, looking to the Loonatics for their decisions.

"I wouldn't mind havin' da kid tag along," Ace said.

"Mhlkrlszkylgvbz Calamity come," Slam said.

"Sure, why not?" Lexi smiled. "It'll mean another genius opinion."

"Hm. Good thinking, Lex," Tech grinned. "And I'll be there to watch his back."

"And-I'll-watch-both-your-backs-in-fact-I'll-watch-all-three-of-our-I mean, I'll keep an eye on him, too," Rev smiled sheepishly after his mouth almost ran off again.

"And you may want to watch your speed, Rev," Zooky warned. "Don't forget those techniques Gina taught ya."

"I'll remember," Rev replied.

Now all they needed was Duck's opinion.

"Sure, why not?" was all the super-powered mallard from the future said.

Zooky then opened the book and placed it on the floor.

"Another thing I might want to tell you, and it goes with me warning Rev about watching his talking speed," Zooky began. "You may be going into a book, but what you will be experiencing will be real. Which means you can get hurt, and so can the others you meet; so those of you with powers used for the offensive-like Laser Vision, Brain Blasts, and, yes Duck, your Power Eggs too-ya might want to resist using them unless circumstances deem it necessary."

"Darn," Duck muttered.

"However, you can use your Quantum Quack and your Aqua Dense," Zooky pointed out, which cheered Duck up somewhat. "Lexi can still use her Sonic Hearing, Slam can still use his Superhuman Strength and Tornado Maximizer-although I would curb your Thunder Mode, Tech can still use his Magnetism Manipulation, and Rev can still use his Sonic Speed and Global Positioning, although I doubt you'll need the latter much; you'll be in the same area for the whole adventure."

"Got it," Ace nodded in understanding, as did the others.

'And I can still use my abilities,' Calamity added. 'Just use them discretely and only if all else fails.'

"And don't you forget it, either," Zooky said in a teacherly tone.

Calamity had been training and honing his psychic abilities ever since he and Gina discovered them, but there were still a few points the young, gray coyote needed to work on, such as not picking up and then reading a person's memory that had strong emotions or thoughts that were brought forward.

'Yes, sir,' Calamity nodded.

"OK, now dat dat's settled…How're ya gonna get 'em dere?" Bugs asked Zooky.

"First, the watch scans the book," Zooky began to list, fiddling with the appropriate buttons on his watch. "Then you pick and scan who will enter…" Zooky then did so until the Loonatics and Calamity were completely scanned. "Now, this is what's considered the 'last chance'; if you want to back out now, now's the time. Because once I press this last button, a gateway to that world will open and you will be transported to the beginning of the story. After that, the only way out is to go all the way through to the end. Does anyone want to back out?"

Daffy raised his hand.

Bugs looked over at the mallard with a "Really?" look, which was silently responded to with a "What?" look from Daffy, then Bugs, with a roll of his eyes, promptly escorted Daffy to the kitchen so that they would be out of the way.

"OK…Does anyone that I've actually scanned want to back out?" Zooky then clarified, rolling his eyes at Daffy's little antic.

"Ehblagaragh No way!" Slam said, grinning.

"I'm with Slam; no way I'm gonna miss out on this!" Lexi said.

"Ya sure? Things could get a little hairy," Zooky warned. "This world is not like Acmetropolis or Toontown. The laws of this world are different there, and there could be things in that world that a good number of you have never seen or heard about before, and they will frighten you."

Zooky didn't want to scare the group out of going on this adventure, but he wanted to be sure that they were aware of what they could possibly be facing and understand the possible consequences of this experience. He looked at the group of seven and analyzed their reactions to what he had said. Aside from Duck looking rather nervous now, everybody else looked like they were seriously considering what was being said and weighing the risks.

"Eehblarghgabaglargh Not afraid! Blarlkegar Let's go!" Slam declared.

"We're superheroes, Zuke. Our line of duty is all about taking risks; you should know that," Tech told his saurian comrade.

'Risk is something I'm no stranger to, either,' Calamity stated.

"We know da risks, and it looks like we're willing to take a leap of faith. Well, most of us," Ace added, looking back at Duck.

Duck shook himself, then, putting on one of his airs, said, "Who sthaid I'm not willing?! I'm probably more willing than anyone elsthe in thisth room! Whaddya waitin' for; a bell to go off?! Take usth in!" he yelled, jumping a little in his rant.

"You hoid da duck, Zuke; we're ready, we're set, so let's jet, already!" Ace declared.

"All right then. Here…we…GO!" Zooky announced, pressing the last button needed to complete the process on "go".

Like what had happened when the Godzilla family went into the world of Narnia, a beam of light came out of the watch, enveloping the book and the seven members of the adventure group. The book then began to glow brighter as a sort of doorway opened. There was a whoosh of air and the light grew brighter, then, as suddenly as it started, it all stopped. The six Loonatics and Calamity had vanished and the book was still open on the floor.

Bugs and Daffy stuck their heads out to see if the coast was clear. Zia, Godzooky's mate, came running down the stairs.

"What on Earth was all that noise?!" Zia exclaimed, not knowing what happened.

"They're in," Zooky stated generally.

"Who's in? In where?" Zia asked.

"Zthooky here justht sthent Calamity, Ace, and histh palsth on an adventure in a book about a field mousthe meeting a bunch of lab-modified ratsh," Daffy stated bluntly.

Zia bent down and tentatively picked the book in question off the floor. Keeping it open, she turned it around to read the title: "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH". Zia's eyes widened a little; she knew the story, having read it before. Some things that occurred in that tale were rather frightening to describe.

"Are you sure about this?" Zia asked, her voice rather hushed.

"This adventure is an opportunity for them to learn and develop further, even discover things about themselves that are hidden so deep not even they know about it," Zooky said, hinting toward a certain plot point in the story and a certain person. "It…was Zadavia's wish that they keep learning and growing, that way they will become true heroes," he added rather wistfully, the mention of the Loonatics' benefactor bringing back memories.

Bugs sighed and nodded in understanding. He had met Zadavia only once, briefly, but he knew that she cared about what happened to the past, and had faith that her team, the Loonatics, could help.

"Eh, those kids 'ave been in tight spots and scary situations before," Bugs assured his friends. "Dey'll be fine."

But there were two words on everyone's minds-even Daffy's-that they added to the end of that sentence:

I hope.

Meanwhile, in a currently undiscernible location, there was another pair of eyes that witnessed the sending of the seven and what happened after. The owner of those eyes agreed that that particular adventure would indeed go a long way toward molding the beings from the future into the heroes that they were to become…And to unlocking the power those six held within. There was one, especially, who would benefit greatly from the experience.

But, the eyes knew that they could not do much. Not yet. And there was still something else to do…

And here we are; first chapter done. Who do you think saw the Loonatics and Calamity depart for their adventure? And who do you think is the one who could "benefit greatly from the experience"? What do you think happened to Zadavia to warrant a sad reaction from Zooky, Zia, Bugs, and Daffy?

Now, it is mentioned that this isn't the first time a group of characters have gone into a book for an adventure: The Godzilla family has done it multiple times. The one mentioned here is a Godzilla/"Chronicles of Narnia" crossover I've got sitting in the development closet. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Why are you doing that kind of crossover? That in no way, size, shape, or form fits!" Well, in it, the Godzilla family comes to understand my beliefs a bit better, so someone's actually learning something there. I think Goji may have touched on human beliefs in the last chapter of my story "Godzilla: The New Adventures Season 1 Episode 2 – The Eartheater", so I think you can call this planned crossover an extension of that.

Oh, yes; I believe there was a mention of FernGully? That's another crossover I've got in the development closet between "Tiny Toon Adventures" and "FernGully: The Last Rainforest". Hopefully I'll be able to get more of it done and then put it up someday.

I'm sure many of you are curious as to what a couple of 28th century superheroes are doing in the 21st century; well, part of the answer is mentioned near the beginning of the chapter. As for the rest of that, well…that will be revealed in due time. But yes, Zadavia is apparently not present for reasons as yet unknown (to you the readers, but not to me, of course).

Also, I'm going to be doing something I've only done in one other fanfic of mine, but I'm going to borrow a page from what my friend DJ Rodriguez has done at the end of one of his stories: I'm going to put up the cast list at the end. Now, some of you may already know who voices who (especially if you've seen "Loonatics Unleashed" and "The Secret of NIMH"), but I've made one change for a particular character. (Sorry, no spoilers!)

Anyway, next time, the Loonatics and Calamity Coyote awaken in the world of the book and meet the main character of said book.

Until then, please read and review. Thank you.
