Artemis marched with purpose. The crescent moon upon his forehead was guiding him to his destination. He was so close now; he was sure of it. This time it couldn't be another dead end!
His senses told him to head into the middle school campus. He only hesitated for a moment. Could the warrior of love and beauty be one of the staff? A teacher perhaps?
Or one of the older students at least. That wasn't impossible to imagine. The one he was searching for, the chosen girl, the warrior of love and beauty, she'd likely have the vitality of youth on her side. He'd have to observe the classrooms though, see if any particularly academic students stand out. The reincarnation of Aphrodite was sure to be intelligent after all.
For now though, his senses led him onto the school track and field. That made sense. A legendary warrior would doubtless be athletic. His heart leapt as he spotted some kids engaging in gymnastics. It sank however, when he realized they were some of the younger students. That was no good to him.
In his annoyance his attention drifted and he only half paid attention as the first student approached the bar and prepared to somersault.
Thirteen-year-olds might have vitality, but they would never have the elegance, subtlety, and grace of the one he was seeking. She'd be-
"Move! Get out of the way!"
WHAM!
"MREEEEEEW!"
Suddenly, Artemis had some idea of what a pancake must feel like. The impact of the blonde's behind semt a wave of pain and frustration through his very essence.
Years later, when he looked back at that moment, he found it wasn't an entirely inaccurate first impression...
