Chapter 16

"no, i just don't get it, yeh sab zaroori tha?" questioned dushyant, as he entered the campus with kavin.

"kya yaar, bas baat hi toh kar rahe the..." brushed off kavin his concerns, as dushyant looked at him with bewilderment.

"acha woh sab chodo, main kya soch raha tha..." attempted kavin to change the topic, but dushyant had probably stopped paying attention, the moment his gaze fell on ishita.

"main, abhi aaya...hmmm" said dushyant, as he ran to ishita, and kavin guessed correctly that dushyant was clearly not listening for quite a while. What he was really surprised at, was the fact he didn't realize it any sooner.

"blue colour ki thi...very old, shabby pages..." described ishita at the lost and found corner, when dushyant appeared behind her.

"no, sorry..." informed the lady at corner, as ishita sighed in disappointment.

"hey, everything alright?" asked dushyant, as ishita actually noticed that he was there.

"oh, yeah, uhmmm, nothing, uhh, thanks..." she said to the lady at the corner as she started to walk, with dushyant alongside her.

"kya kho gaya tumhara?" asked dushyant, as he slid his hands into his pockets.

"arre, woh, uhmm, diary thi...you know what, mujhe college laana hi nahi chahiye tha usse...ab chut gayi na kal class mein." She blabbered, completely flustered.

"tum diary bhi likhti ho?" asked dushyant.

"nahi, nahi, woh, meri mom ki thi, uhmm, i just have been trying to keep it away from my dad...woh bahaut upset rehte hain mom ke kaaran, and i mean finding out she was pretty unhappy before her death is not the thing he needs to know right now..." explained ishita.

"maybe desk ke neeche hi rakhi ho abhi, i mean, saalon purani chewing gum mil jaate hai..." remarked dushyant, hoping he could pass it off as a joke and as much weird she found it to be at first, she did chuckle a little.

"i did try looking there, tabhi yahi aayi thi..." clarified ishita as dushyant's mouth formed an 'oh'.

"obviously..." said dushyant as he swallowed in awkwardness, as ishita bursted into laughter, and so did he.

"hey!" exclaimed poonam after coming upto ishita, as she forced a smile at dushyant, and he didn't really bother.

"hi...yaar tune meri diary dekhi, kal chut gayi thi woh chemistry ke lecture mein..." interrogated ishita, as poonam nodded her head in no.

"tumhari diary hoti to le leti yeh zaroor." Quipped dushyant, making poonam, not happy exactly.

"ok, i get it, you don't like me..." established poonam.

"i made it quite obvious..." stated dushyant bluntly.

"yaar, maine kya begada hai tumhara?" questioned poonam.

"purvi ne sach bata diya hai mujhe.." informed dushyant .

"oh come on..uss raat..." attempted poonam to explain.

"jhut bula tumne! You made it sound like purvi ne tum dono ki friendship destroy kardi, when you were the one who abandoned her!" argued dushyant.

"aur woh bahaut innocent hai?" retorted poonam.

"innocent toh tum bhi nahi ho..." responded dushyant.

"ishita, i'll see you in class." She said as she walked away, while ishita was left confused.

Kavin and dushyant came home together, exhausted after college. Dushyant unlocked the door to their house, when purvi appeared too in the hallway.

"hey." Greeted kavin, excited.

"hi..." responded purvi.

"you both seem fresh now..." remarked dushyant, as he opened the door.

"anyways, i have to get working on my thesis now, i did not know i'd be doing that when i took economics..." announced dushyant, as he locked his house from inside.

"hey!" exclaimed kavin as he was left outside.

"you're welcome buddy!" exclaimed dushyant from outside, as kavin was now stuck outside, in front of purvi's house.

"uhmm, tum wait kar sakte ho andar, satish uncle ka..." offered purvi.

"usse pehle toh kholega nahi..." remarked kavin, as he agreed to go along with her.

"nice house." Complimented kavin, after getting in.

"mera idea tha..." informed purvi, as kavin raised his brow.

"teen saal pehle extension hua tha society ka, so ghar dobara banna, and i got to design it." she explained.

"so, you are doing interior design?" confirmed kavin, as purvi nodded in agreement.

"chai, coffee, kuch?"asked purvi, as kavin shook his head in no.

"nahi, main apne liye bhi bana rahi hoon, chai..." said purvi, as she was already in the kitchen.

"ok then, uhmm, cheeni kam daalna, uhh, thodi kadak chai pasand hai mujhe." Said kavin, as he stuffed his hands in his pockets.

"that's, exactly how i like it..." added purvi, as a smile came on their faces.

"i did not know that..." remarked kavin with a chuckle.

"small world." Said purvi, as she started to make the tea.

"uhmm, do you need any help?" asked kavin as purvi shook her head in no.

"just, make yourself at home." She assured, as he looked around.

He roamed around the living room, as a family tree of photos came in front of him.

"so, it's just you and your mom?" asked kavin from across the living room.

"yeah, i..lost my dad when i was like, three..." answered purvi from the kitchen.

"i am so sorry..." repented kavin.

"it's ok, i never really knew him." she said as she came in with the cup of tea.

"it must be really weird..." he commented as she agreed.

"so, where's your mom?" flipped kavin the topic, as he sipped his tea.

"arre, woh, today she'll be working late..." informed purvi.

"hmm, chai achi hai." He complimented, as purvi received it graciously.

"i lost my dad too five years ago, actually..." informed kavin.

"oh god, what happened?" asked purvi.

"hit and run, MLA ka beta involved tha, so koi action nahi...unhone toh FIR bhi nahi lekhi, just an NOC...it's just, so unfair...how these people just get away with anything! I mean you took a man's life!" complaint kavin, as purvi's face was filled with shock and horror.

It was like her past had found its way back to her in the most twisted way possible.

"are you alright?" asked kavin, as purvi just managed to shake her head.
