45: Advice from a Lesson

Kikyo couldn't get over what Inuyasha told her. 'Only my mother has the answer?' She asks herself. She retreats to her locket. Before doing so, she asks Inuyasha to take the locket back at Kagome's room and tell her about their conversation. Inuyasha hops onto Kagome's bedroom's opened window sill and places the locket onto the desk. A moan from Kagome's lips alerts him. She opens her eyes to spot him starting to leave the room. "Wait. Don't leave." She begs him before he leaped out of the room. "What's going on here?" She asks as she pushes herself on her bed to sit up straight.

"Kikyo was trying to possess your body. I had to get the locket away from you before she completely consumed you." He explains to her as he takes a seat on her desk chair. "Oh. So then what did she wanted to talk about? She could've talk to me as well." Kagome pointed out to him. "That would've been a bad idea. Just possessing your body would mean that you missed it." Inuyasha explains the problem.

Kagome just nods and lets him to begin. "The thing is that Kikyo wanted to get revenge on Tsubaki for what happened." Inuyasha said the story. Kagome chuckles. Inuyasha is confused about her reaction. "What's with that?" He asks her. Kagome calms down, "I've been told about it already. My aunt and Kaede told me what happened and we had made a hunch that Kikyo would do something about it." Kagome tells him her story about her part it. Inuyasha gets it now. Kagome was already aware about the outcome.

"But there's something else you don't know about." Inuyasha speaks more seriously this time. "What is it?" Kagome asks him curiously now. "There's a system that both humans and demons must secretly follow." He begins his lesson. "Do you have a notebook and a pen?" He asks the girl. Kagome nods as she goes to her desk drawer and pulls out the requested items. She hands it to him. She looks over his shoulder to see him draw something the Kagome doesn't seem to get.

Kagome takes her seat back onto her bed and waits for him to finish his task. It doesn't take him that much time. He turns the chair and presents the page. "What's this?" Kagome asks him. Inuyasha puts his finger on the left side. "There is a law created a long time ago. My old man came up with this idea to make sure that there was a balance between the customs and laws of both demons and humans." He starts off. "For the demons, if a demon is killed between their kind, then the council will decide on their faith." He explains the first part of the page.

Kagome nods to him so far. Inuyasha points to the right of the page. "The human part is the same way as well. However, demons has no right whatsoever to know about their faith." But then something crossed her mind. "What the first part. The one about the faith about the demons' crime? Do the humans have to stay out of it, or know about it?" Kagome asks him wisely. Inuyasha smiles. "Quite astute of you. If something like that were to happen, the human race is to stay out of it because the demon's part is way too complicated for them to understand." Inuyasha explains the missing information.

And then Inuyasha points to the bottom of the page. "And then there's the confliction of the human vs. demon law. This is where both parts of the council to decide about the faith. Either if a demon is to kill a human or the other way around, then the punishment is death." He explains the last part. Kagome would never expect anything like that would exist. "I guess you can't do anything about Kikyo's death." She said about that part in disappointment.

Inuyasha can see that look. "I missed another fact to tell you. For the last part, I have a right to decide the faith about the culprit that did the crime. I'm a half demon after all. I fit the category." He cheers her up. "As such I'll be receiving a call from my father when the trial is ready." Kagome nods to tell him that she finally understands. "But then something baffles me. When trial begins, should Kikyo have a saying to it?"

Inuyasha can tell that Kagome has a point at that. Up until now, Kikyo has been doing everything she can to contact him and Kagome. "It's hard to convince the council about a deceased person to make an appearance in front of them." He holds his chin. "Perhaps if we were to let Kikyo possess my body then it should persuade them." Kagome spoke to him reluctantly. That's when Inuyasha shakes his head. "No, I'm not letting her do that again. The last time she did that almost made you go into a coma and I'm not taking that risk again. We have to find something else to make sure she doesn't use her strength throughout that time." He means it.

Kagome sighs in defeat. She can't think of anything else to make sure that the council will believe her because has no proof. Even if Inuyasha was there, it's not enough to do it too. She looks back at the locket to see it dull with just a sparkle shining at one end. "Maybe the shop where you got it from might help." She turns to him. Inuyasha knows that she might be onto something. "We might as well give it a shot." He agrees to her idea. As soon as they stood up, a knock on the door gets their attention. They turn to see Miyuki standing outside with a calm face. "Before you two go, I'd like to have a word with Kikyo." Kagome nods and hands over the locket to her aunt. "I promise I won't be long." She smiles and leaves the two alone.

Miyuki goes back into her bedroom in the basement and places the locket onto the foot of the bed. She sits Indian style and positions her fingers in a few different forms. She then chants an unknown language that she knows. Soon enough the locket glows white again and then pulsates. The glow begins to take shape of Kikyo. "Hello, Kikyo." Miyuki smiles to her daughter. Kikyo returns her own smile and then they just look at each other's eyes to get through an important conversation.
